every tv show should be allowed one self-indulgend 'look how far we've come' time travel episode in its final season

Remember Voyager's "Shattered"? Now watch it with the Discovery cast!
All the fuss recently about lack of filler episodes but we always have time for the remakes of old ones.
(I liked it)

There ARE valid criticisms of Star Trek Discovery and I wish we could talk about them without it immediately careening towards "oh, you don't like the representation!?" as if that's the only barometer of a good show.
Honestly my biggest criticism is that the show has no levity. Where are the goofy romps in the holodeck? When do they teach the aliens how to lighten up and play baseball? I know this sounds silly, but honestly I think it reflects society right now. We have no work/life balance. The characters are only shown working because that's what is expected of us in real life. And it's worth mentioning that earlier Trek doesn't have this problem. This is a recent trend!
Do I love that the captain is a black woman? Of course I do! I wish I knew what that black woman did for fun when she's off work! But we NEVER see her off work! Do I love that Discovery has the first nonbinary character? Yes, awesome! And they know how to quilt, but it's never mentioned ever again and their only personality trait from then on is that they are good at their job. The job is what is valuable.
And like the argument could be made that they are just passionate about their work because they're scientists. But the scientists I know are also musicians, or poets, or animal lovers. If all they did was work they would burn out. All these poor babies on this ship are gonna quit Starfleet and need more therapy than the doctor guy could ever hope to provide.
Criticism number 2! Zora should be the ship's official counselor.

Still not over the fact we went from T’Rina basically yelling at Saru (Vulcan style) to “Let’s codify our mutual commitment in a more official capacity”

I absolutely love how modern Trek shamelessly doubles down on the very silliest bits of Trek lore
