Rec List: so Cassian Andor is your blorbo now
Please reblog with your own recs! My ships are mostly Cassian/K-2SO (AKA droidcaptain), Din/Cassian, and Bodhi-centric, so I will be missing some good fics. New additions are very welcome!
First of all, everything by @bright-elen but especially:
Iterations: three different backups of K-2SO are booted into new hulls after the Battle of Yavin. As they each grow in different directions, the full depth of his relationship with Cassian gradually unfolds. This fic broke my heart and gave droids legal rights.
404: K-2SO reboots as an Imperial prison guard droid with mysterious independent programming. He begins to suspect one of the prisoners with whom he shares an inexplicable bond.
war footing: Cassian explores his armour kink with Din Djarin, before figuring out there's bigger metal guy he really wants. The very first dincassian fic! (full disclosure: I had the privilege of writing an instalment)
Unorthodox Modifications: this fic changed the game for droidcaptain shippers. K2 discovers synthetic pleasure, but how does he tell Cassian about it?
and Cortado, a brand new Andor-canon fic about the first droid Kassa ever freed
Shoot Your Shot by @semisweetshadow: Cassian meets Din Djarin on a mission, and one thing leads to another (amazing variety of ships
Dual Process Theory by TheLoyalRoyalGuard - unflinching postcanon series that deals with disability and cyborgs in really interesting ways
There Is No Love Manual For Robots by @a-whale-bone: Cassian/K2/Bodhi OT3 yessss
Some oneshots that I love:
Incline by Nununununu: a 5+1 Cassian/K2. Read ANYTHING by Nu!
Rapid Touch Response by dreamsofoceans. classic sex pollen!
I am a Pilot of Precision by lurrel. the slap, the fic
A Lover You Don't Have To Love by Artemis1000. ANGST MY BELOVED
canards by spookykingdomstarlight: Cassian and K2 first meeting
Read-Only Memory by dreamsofoceans: if elen doesn't have you convinced of how interesting droid POV can be, this will
volatile by notbecauseofvictories: more droid!POV, now with memory wipe angst
Effective Methods by Penknife: classic PWP wireplay goodness
Finally, some fics of mine:
Fairweather Friends: Cassian Andor is thrown in an Imperial prison cell with no lights. And a Mandalorian. The 'oh my god they were cellmates' fic.
Defect: Cassian Andor is on an undercover Imperial mission when he meets a mysterious friend known only as "K." A multichap where K2 breaks his own programming, with lots of mistaken identity games.
Feedback Loop: Cassian and K2 shelter from a blizzard after a mission goes wrong, and repairing K2 provokes some unexpected side effects. A PWP with a no-longer canon detail, but worth it if you love huddling for warmth.

started figuring out the timeline of it will be like this forever, a dincassian (andorlorian?) time-travel au (post-mando s2, pre-rogue one, post-the great purge), so here’s a snippet from that:
The Imperial wheezes a laugh, turning to look at Din. “You think what we did to your people was bad, Mandalorian?” he rasps, his gaze lingering, covetous, on Din’s armor. “That was nothing. Soon enough, the entire galaxy will either stand with the Empire in glorious victory, or they will be dead!”
“The Empire took heavy losses in the campaign on Mandalore,” Cassian says shortly, giving up on his interrogation in favor of searching the Imp’s uniform.“You don’t have the resources to do it again, and even if you did, people would still fight back.”
The Imperial grins at Cassian, full of teeth. “People can fight back, Rebel,” he agrees, “but can planets?”

Ao3 wrapped odd numbers
ohohoho
How many words have you written this year?
Just under 44k. Not bad, all things considered.
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
Eleven ways Cobb Vanth thought he was going to die (and how he didn't actually die), for sure. Good prose and my favourite concept.
What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?
the glory of it all was lost on me, the first Cassian/Brasso on ao3 and very sparingly tagged.
If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?
Two sets of lyrics: The National and (my usual go-to) Queens of the Stone Age.
Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?
Cassian/Brasso are fresh on my mind, and I hope we get lots more of them.
What work took you the longest to write?
Eleven Ways, but it was worth it.
What’s your longest work of the year?
Eleven Ways at 22k
What WIP are you taking into next year with you?
Nothing current! January is usually when the multichaps strike me.
Your favorite character to write this year?
Cobb Vanth - I never tried his POV much because he's such a minor character. The freedom of barely any canon to abide to was great, and I could flesh him out a bit (with help from generic cowboys and specific Raylan Givens) to do some really interesting stuff that most Star Wars characters couldn't. Our perfect paper cowboy.
What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
I want to do tons more Cassian/Brasso! I'm getting back into dincassian now that we have an Andor backstory, maybe something with droids
How many kudos in total did you get this year?
1000ish on the new fics. The Theory of Harmony did real well, as did all my earlier Cassian stuff.
Did you do any collaborative works this year?
Bright-Elen betaed and lovingly workshopped a bunch of them!
Did you receive any gifts this year?
The Hungry Ghosts comic series (!!!) by @its-not-a-pen and Care and Feeding (vampire Cassian hnnng) by @bright-elen
What do you listen to while writing?
I had some interesting shanties and blues songs on a playlist for The Keeper. Someone pointed out Orville Peck's 'Kalahari Down' was great for Eleven Ways and I really loved it. Obviously The National for glory. I have a tailormade Cassian playlist full of grunge, and found some general desert rock for dead lifeboats in the sun.
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
By morning, the Marshal of Mos Pelgo was gone. The town moved on.
I'd never tried something like this, where I let the characters walk away and stay in the setting. It was one of those lines that ached because it's so bittersweet. I'd never truly wrapped my head around the West as a bygone era, always-already ending, until writing this. That moment in The Searchers and Shane where the haggard gunslinger drifts away to the next frontier and we're left in the dark. I've done a few stories before about how the protagonist needs to let go of a dying love before he can commit himself to a new one (Hanging the Moon did this with Poe and Leia) and this time it was Tatooine as a place, which I'd never felt inspired to write much about until TBOBF. Writing Cobb as an inelegant weapon from a less civilised age really brought it home for me.

Fic I automatically associate with your name, Fairweather Friends!
give me a fic title and I’ll tell you a secret about it
A secret about this fic: I hate the whole 'spicy sexy space Latinos' label that Din and Cassian get slapped with, and I wince whenever a commenter assumes I paired the characters because the actors are Latino. I got invested in the ship on the basis that they're very similar in age/origins, with a lot of personality traits in common, but a handful fundamental differences that create a powerful conflict in their relationship.

Idk if this has been asked yet but din/cassian?
Send me a Star Wars crackship and I’ll write you a pitch
anon PLEASE this is my flagship
Have an exerpt from my current WIP:
Din shuffled closer, and Cassian curled up to hug his knees. His eyes were glassy, averted. A drop of water clung to his nose: he wiped it on his sodden sleeve.
‘The helmet,’ Din murmured. ‘It’s... things changed.’
That was all the explanation he could muster. Really, was there anything else to explain?
Cassian stole a glance at him, then another, as if it were still forbidden. ‘You saved my life.’

Fic Rec: Shoot Your Shot
@semisweetshadow has written a Din/Cassian mission fic (and gifted it to me!) with the perfect dynamic!
With the setup of Cassian and Din both chasing the same mark, for seduction and assassination respectively, the two characters dance around each other with the perfect mix of rivalry and sexual tension. There’s a powerful undercurrent of trust: they seem to get under each other’s skin while never quite shedding their masks, and the alternating POV means we see just how achingly intimate things become.
I love this ship so much and I’m overjoyed it’s growing: this fic is a brilliant entrypoint for anyone looking for a tight, hot, character piece!

thanks @everyoneissquidwardinpurgatory for letting me barge into their DMs with the sudden realisation that the dincassian dynamic at its core is a bad person who does good things and a good person who does bad things
