MAKING YOUR PHONE TO BE INTENTIONAL
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MAKE A VISION BOARD WALLPAPER. Create one that aligns with your goals and dream self, so that every time you pick your phone up, you’re reminded of your goals and future vision. Also, great for manifesting!
KNOW YOUR APP’S PURPOSE. For me, tumblr is a way I share advice and learn, YouTube I also learn from others, pinterest I get inspired, netflix is a way for me to unwind etc. If for any app, you cannot name a proper purpose/intent to use it daily or to help with your goals, delete it.
DECIDE WHICH TYPES OF APPS YOU WANT. If you have a new phone, or you want to completely reset your phone, write or type, the apps, that you want and those you don’t.
E.g I want to learn a language, practice mindfulness on the go, get some mental gratification that isn’t addicting, organise my life better and have a way to track my progress. I don’t want apps that support doom-scrolling, make me compare myself and are addictive.
BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU SIGN UP TO. Newsletters, social media, subscribing to YouTubers and so on, just think about your goals and vision and if they align with them, every time you think about signing up/subscribing.
HAVE NO PHONE TIME/ZONES. For me, my phone is not allowed to be used in bed. If I must use my phone, I have to get out of bed first. My phone is also not allowed during study time, so I put it in a separate room which makes it inconvenient.
REGULARLY DO A DIGITAL DECLUTTER. Delete any old contacts that you don’t talk to, unsubscribe from newsletters and YouTube channels, organise your socials etc. Removes space and helps us to see our phones with more clarity.
SET PURPOSEFUL WIDGETS. These can be anything, motivational quotes, your daily to-do list, reminders of your habits and so on. However, make sure you’re looking at them and they're not just taking up space.

a glamorous well-being⋆.ೃ࿔*:・🌸
Tumblr media
i've decided to write this post to remind my audience that you're own well being comes first and just share some ways on how you can focus on ur well being in small steps that can gradually build a lifestyle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BEAUTY SLEEP ;
go to bed at a reasonable time and wake up at a reasonable time. when ur well rested you'll feel and look your best. theres a reason why ppl call beauty sleep beauty sleep.
when u dont get enough sleep ur skin is dull, you'll start to have eyebags beneath ur eyes and can even shorten ur life span. and thats not hot.
if u feel like it'll make u more well rested, take a midday nap. if u find that u have problems sleeping, having a before bed routine that soothes u can rly help u to sleep like the angel that you are.
drink a warm cup of tea before bed
do gentle stretches
take a soothing bath or shower
DIGITAL MINIMALISM ;
we experience the fear of missing out bcuz of our habit of consuming hundreds if not thousands of unnecessary information every single day. in a way we've become information addicts.
no scroll mornings - cutting a habit completely might be hard so dont jump in with both feet immediately. go little by little.
digital declutter - intentionally cut out optional online activity and instead focus on something in person like ur community, urself and ur projects
APPRECIATING SILENCE ;
if the weather permits, i rly recommend going for walks. walking is not only good for ur body but also ur mind and getting fresh air and sunlight is rly good for u and important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
start doing guided meditations
go on daily walks to get some fresh air
JOURNALLING ;
journalling is so easy and fun and glamorous. i love the concept of journals bcuz its just such a cute way to get everything from ur mind onto paper which is helpful.
to journal with the intention of improving ur well being i recommend to get into shadow work cuz its like journal therapy. i'll link a post with shadow work prompts right here, that way you can have a place to kind of start off from.
other then simply doing shadow work journalling or maintaining a diary of sorts is also helpful for ur well being bcuz it showcases ur growth and its a great way to cultivate a sense of self without fear of judgement or privacy invasion from others.
TAKING BIG STEPS IN EASY WAYS ;
i think that the secret to overall wellness in the most glamorous way possible is a bunch of little habits that can contribute to an overall beautiful and glamorous inside and outside.
so focus on building habits before you make a huge lifestyle switch. not to confuse this with not being all in. you must be all in otherwise you'll fall back into unhealthy and old patterns for the sake of comfort.
but thats not hot, you can take baby steps while still being all in. commit to a more vibrant and more well self cuz you'll thank urself in the long run.

"Two month review of using this flip phone"
For context, I’ve been using this japanese flip phone from kyocera. The specific model of this unit is the Kyocera 701KC. This phone was released in late 2017 and is therefore showing its age. As a device for digital minimalism or just for reducing social media time, I think this device fits perfectly for me. I said, “for me” because the usage depends very much on what an individual is willing to compromise. In my opinion the biggest drawback of using this device is it’s software, it’s running android 5 which is very old and most of the banking app that I use is not supported, more and more apps will also be not supported anymore in the near future, this device also don’t have support for google services, you have to sideload the apps you want to use, but if you can look past that, this may work for you. Another problem that I often run into is its wifi connection. When the device is closed or on stand-by for quite a while the wifi suddenly disconnects so when you unlock the phone it will take around 30 seconds to 1 minute to connect to the wifi.
For its advantages, it really reduced my time on social media. It’s slow, but it taught me to be a little more patient and calmer. I had more time doing things that matter, such as reading or just being in the moment. Another benefit is that this phone is strong! It’s durable. If you’re clumsy like me, things will keep falling out of your hand, and sometimes things jump out of your pocket when moving around. This guy can take hits. One time, it fell off the stairs. I thought it would be shattered, but to my surprise, all it had was a small chip of paint removed. So, would I recommend buying this? Depending on the price and inconvenience you’re willing to pay. As I said earlier if you want to use this there will be some compromises, and even if you’re willing to pay the cost I recommend newer devices such as the Kyocera Digno 901KC or the Unihertz Jelly series, this has better software and is much more likely to be usable for a longer period of time.

Finally...
After 2 hours, I deleted some of my social media accounts such as Twitter/X, Instagram and Youtube, and some misc accounts.
Complete detox. Tumblr is hard to do but I feel like eventually I would do the same here ✨

Rainy days. My screen time has been causing so much mental distress and unrest that I've decided to take all the teachings from Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism and incorporate in my day to day.
This entails Mobile-free zones and Mobile-friendly zones in the house, using the guest room when I'm studying because it has no wifi connectivity.
I've made sure to explain to my family and my close ones about my non-availability during certain hours so I can study uninterrupted. I feel grateful that they're all enthusiastic about supporting me.
In order to achieve the ambitious goals I've set for myself, I have to make sacrifices and undergo some transformation to make it happen. Here's to hoping it will happen <3

Review of my past dopamine detoxx efforts, so you can learn from my fails and wins, just cuz I love you
YOUTUBE - I simply uninstalled the app off my phone. Some think it is simply unimaginable, that they can't handle it without YouTube, but Istg it's all lies your mind is telling you. If you're spending so much time on YouTube Shorts, just uninstall. It's like, so easily accessible via the YT app. On the desktop website version it is not as accessible (important keyword!), and thus, you're less likely to binge so hard. Every time I installed YouTube, Shorts was my bane. So I was so much off just uninstalling it. I also unsubbed from all my channels, I used to only have a few subs but I realized I just didn't listen to any of their content. I liked the IDEA of those people, their aesthethica, their whole mood, etc. But their content didn't help me. So out the window it goes!
FACEBOOK - That was a easy one to be quite honest, I used to post a few pictures a month, mostly food or hike trips, stuff like that. I just kept my Facebook going on for the professional groups and school group chats, otherwise it would be completely shut down. I now just don't post anything at all, nothing at all. People don't need to know every minutiae of my life. Shoo shoo.
TUMBLR - This one bit my ass hard. I unsubbed from every single blog, even my favourites, and saved the list in an archive sideblog. But it turned out I just didn't visit those blogs that often, and thus, I wasn't as active on Tumblr as much. So I'll concede, because I love my blog and Tumblr so much, I'll subscribe to a few blogs, but be very strict about my curating. One of the issues I had with Tumblr was the endless scroll of aesthethic pictures without any informative and thought provoking content... it just annoyed me to no end having to scroll and NOT MISSING THE "IMPORTANT" STUFF. (FOMO in a nutshell). Later on I'll reexamine my use of Tumblr. Maybe I'll just unsub again, maybe I'll curate it even more, to be seen. That's the beauty of this process, you can make mistakes, learn from them, and correct your shot as you go. No need to get it perfect from the start.
REDDIT - Despite deleting my account, I noticed I kept coming back to Reddit, because I lacked things to occupy my mind (veryyyyyy important to me else I'll go rabid). I found solutions that engage my mind, without absorbing negative vibes. Yeah as you might've noticed, Reddit is like so negative, and so irritating. No bueno. I installed a very simple sudoku game without ads, and downloaded a big fat bunch of boosk to read into my ebook. A massive quantity I can't ever finish them all. Smart babes gotta maintain their brains!
INSTAGRAM - It has been like YEARS since I ditched this, but I still remember very well my lesson: I obessively followed accounts of influencers, and artists and those home decorating accounts, to a point it took like a hour to check every single account's posts. Spending so much time over this, because I ASPIRED to become those people, but DIDN'T do any sort of effort. I did save pictures of artist's art, thinking I will do something inspired by their stuff, but I just did nothing. I just collected and collected and collected. It was exhausting my precious time without any good return, and as the wastage went on, my guilt became heavier. A guilty mind will do shit. It won't do stuff. It will procrastinate. So I decided to just quit, it was hard at first, but later I realized I just didn't miss it, and I was happy to have my productive, creative mind back. So yeah, good riddance

productivity tips that are not talked about enough!
Tumblr media
day blocking instead of time blocking is better if you’re working on multiple goals
if you’re working on multiple projects or you’re in school , work and also working on a side hustle or YouTube/social media career or any other goal/hobby I’ve found that dedicating one whole day to one of those is better than doing everything on the same day.
if I’m studying or engaging in any work I need time to get into the right mode. The quality of my work suffers if I spend only one hour doing something and then moving on to another task. Creative flow cannot be micro managed. If you get to the creative space where you want to film a video you probably still have a lot of inspiration and energy to film multiple videos but let’s say you decide you’re only going to film one video cause you have to spend the rest of the time studying you actually cut your creativity short cause what’s to say you’ll get into the same creative space tomorrow? the same goes for studying and work.
that’s why on the days that I have my corporate job I prefer to spend the rest of the day (when I get off work) tackling the hard tasks such as cleaning, cooking and making my apartment and space positive and clean for the next day so I can focus 100% on just writing and engaging in my hobbies.
minimize the risk of burnout
some days I have ample amount of energy and it feels like I’ll never stop cause working on my creative projects gives me more energy. But it’s important to still dial down and take breaks, eat good food and read a book or watch a movie cause if you overdo it you’ll get to the point where you lose interest in your creative work cause you overdid it.
if you’re like me and you get obsessed and hyper fixed with things and then you lose all interest that’s a good sign of burnout cause as much as we like to engage with our hyper fixations we don’t realize that it drains us even if we thing we’re having fun.
you need to have one day a week where you are allowed to REST and do whatever you want. wether that’s sleeping in or just being on your phone. for me personally since I’m on a dopamine detox I use that day to shower, fix my hair, do my nails, relax and clean the apartment cause that’s what relaxes me, cause I get to listen to an audio book while I do it. Especially if I plan to do something creative the day after I use the day before to tackle all of my need to do / boring tasks.
understand the importance of moving your body
I’m guilty of not getting enough exercise cause I fail to realize the benefits of going to the gym or just going for a walk. the benefit of fitness isn’t just that you get a better looking body but also that you get rid of a lot of trapped energy. lack of movement will lead to frustration and tiredness. moving the body gets rid of the icky energy and stress that accumulates throughout the day while meditation gets rid of mental stress.

one of my big goals this year was to decrease my screen time. over the holidays I was sick with how much time I was spending on my laptop and phone watching and re-watching and scrolling and viewing and re-viewing the same content that ultimately, didn't really matter to me. I know that because I've done several digital detoxes before and I didn't miss 80% of it. unfortunately, none of these digital detoxes had a lasting impact so I'm trying to make a slower adjustment. play the long game. it started with reading Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. I'm partaking in no social media Sunday's. I deleted most social media apps off my phone, and culled the list of people I follow on social media I kept. and I've reaped so many rewards. I have more time to do the things I really want to do. I am present when I converse with people. I'm not in danger of running into someone or getting dizzy while walking with eyes glued to my phone. it feels akin to what people call 'changing your lifestyle' for health & fitness. this is me changing my digital lifestyle and I couldn't be happier

September 27, 2023 - "A Japanese flip phone"
Dear Tommy,
I got a flip phone for my 22nd birthday. These past years, I would always get the latest and greatest phone, but this year I got an old one, a downgrade, but surprisingly, I love it. It's not the fastest, and it wouldn't win any race as compared to even entry-level phones today, but it's cute, I love the aesthetics, and my time on social media has also been lessened, there's also a charm in the photos taken from this, it kind of has this old digicam vibes. Anyways, how have you been Tommy?
Yours truly,
Andy

Digital Minimalism📱is a philosophy of technology where you focus your online time on a small number of carefully selected items and optimized activities that you can use intentionally and with purpose; and easily miss out on everything else. It teaches you the art of knowing how much is just enough and applies the idea to our personal technology. The key is to living a focused life in an increasingly noisy world 🎧
Tumblr media
This book walks you through a 3 step process to successfully “digitally declutter” your life. Its the perfect book to read if you have goals to focus on and will ultimately teach you to feeling like you are not missing out” by being disconnected 🔌
The author of this book says that the best way to establish control with social media is to rebuild your digital relationship from scratch. In other words take a break 🏝While this is quite difficult for entrepreneurs, a good solution would be to limit your online time to only when intentionally posting or searching for things you need for your business and limit this to 1-2 hours a day.
By monitoring what we do ⏰ we can see exactly how much time we waste and how easily distracted we can become. Once we are aware of where our time is being invested, we have more control and rediscover more free time to carry out our personal goals and interests 🥅
By following a digital declutter process, you’ll learn how to:
💭 Rethink your relationship with social media
⏳ Prioritize bandwidth conversations with low quality
🤍 Rediscover the pleasures of the offline world
