Okay so last night I complained about being glued to my screen more than I’d like to be. So this morning I decided I’ll do something about it <3 the purpose of documenting it here is so that I hold myself accountable on my blog instead of writing it down in my notes app and negating it like two seconds later. And also so it’s easier for me to be like “bitch enough” whenever I catch myself scrolling through my Tumblr when I absolutely should not be. I plan on increasing these rules (progressive overload) or decreasing them (too much too soon) depending on results, but for the next week it’s:
Cannot get on my phone until I’ve drunk water, done my am skincare routine/taken my am shower, and taken my am supplements.
Phone in the morning for 15 minutes max. Otherwise I cannot be on my phone until noon (I wake up pretty early so this gives me like 4 hours of no phone time).
Also cannot get on my phone after noon unless I’ve studied at least two hours beforehand.
Need to study 2 hours for every 1 hour I’m on my phone until 6 pm.
Can use my phone liberally after 6 pm ONLY if I’ve: hit my study goals, done my Anki flash cards that are due, and finished my workout (or walk) of the day. Otherwise, the previous rule applies.
Need to read a book for at least 30 minutes in the day. This can be thrown in whenever, but preferably before bed.
Need to set aside 20 minutes after 6 pm to do pm skincare routine/take pm shower.

HOW TO HAVE A SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX ୭ 🧸✧ ˚.
today, social media has become an integral part of our lives. however, it's important to take breaks from social media to prioritize our mental well-being. here are some steps to have an effective social media detox:
Tumblr media
SET GOALS
ask yourself why you want to have a social media detox. this could be to reduce stress, gain confidence, increase productivity, etc...
BOUNDARIES
decide on the duration and extent of your detox. you can choose to deactivate your accounts (temporarily) or limit usage to specific times of the day.
UNFOLLOW AND MUTE
unfollow accounts that don't bring you joy or contribute positively to your life. mute notifications to minimize distractions.
FIND ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES
replace the time you would spend on social media with other activities you enjoy such as, drawing, reading, or spending time with loved ones. if you don't have any hobbies that you know you enjoy, try picking up new ones.
SELF REFLECTION
use the time away from social media to reflect of your values, goals, and aspirations. focus on self care and personal growth.
SUPPORT
let your family and friends know about your detox plan to gain their support and encouragement. consider joining support groups or online communities that promote digital well-being.

Opt out. Go analog. Reject bad tech. Write letters and call friends. Subscribe to your local newspaper. Use cash. Make do. Use less. Stop doomscrolling. Delete apps. Sleep more. Say no. Forget FOMO. Love animals. Leave no trace.

The overwhelming addiction to negativity and self-deprecation on social media is not even "sad" anymore, it's just disgusting🧍‍♂️
If you post something that even implies you're a happy person or that you love yourself, people suffering from "What About Me🥺🤨?" Syndrome will swarm the comments to trauma dump or try to humble you and I hate it so much😃‼️
I'm deleting tiktok rn 'cause Istg every phrase-based trend is made to trauma dump.

Here's a simple recipe for lemon water that can help detoxify the body:
Ingredients:
- 1 lemon
- 1 cup of water
Instructions:
1. Start by squeezing the juice from the lemon into a glass or a bottle.
2. Heat the cup of water until it's warm, but not boiling.
3. Pour the warm water into the glass or bottle containing the lemon juice.
4. Stir the mixture well to combine the lemon juice with the water.
5. Let it sit for a few minutes to infuse the flavors.
6. If desired, you can add a small amount of honey or a pinch of stevia to sweeten the lemon water.
7. Drink the lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
8. You can continue to drink lemon water throughout the day, as desired, for additional detox benefits.

i am canceling all social media accounts except tumblr cause this site is least toxic place on internet.
i want to be person i was before phone became favorite past time.
let's see how long it will take before my determination melts like everything else
anyone else want to participate? idk, if you want, if you already went through this ordeal share how did it go and how long were you on detox and if you have any fellow advice.
especially fellow writers, tell me if you too feel time spent on internet is killing your creative braincells.
also do you write on phone or with pen in notebook? do you feel while using notes app saves lot of time, that it can also be very distracting cause, again, internet is too close?

how DID you diminish your screen time? - love an adhd girlie who is glued to her phone :(
This is what worked for me personally, but tbh at some point you just have to play mental tricks w your own brain when you’re first trying to “break the spell.” I am never on my phone when I’m talking to someone. If I’m in the company of another human being, I put that shit away immediately. If I’m studying, my phone is in a different room. I’ve used app blockers before too (although for some people, sometimes even for me, it’s best to just quit cold turkey for days). I’m literally only here when I’m here & it works so well for me. I don’t have to live an 18th century existence, but I’m not frantically checking my phone for dopamine every two seconds either.
I also literally scared myself into being off my phone more. I downloaded an app that gave me a rough estimate on how much time I’d be spending over the course of a lifetime if I kept going the way I was going, and that shit added up to years. Years of screen time. I was fucking horrified lmao. Now that statistic pops into my mind whenever I’m tempted to waste a day scrolling away.
I don’t have to work as hard to be off my phone anymore, but that’s also bc I realized that internet FOMO is dumb and that I’m missing out on nothing by not keeping up w posts or memes. The only exception to that is Palestine. I’m usually pretty tightly wound about checking on the news and making sure I’m sharing credible fundraisers/resources bc it’s such a time sensitive situation. Pretty much nothing else actually matters to me.

my media consumption schedule
sunday:
social media detox
don‘t touch anything. devices should be turned off
monday-friday:
intentional media consumption for 1h in the evening aka after I‘ve finished all my work
delete apps when done and re-install for consumption
content block social media websites in the settings so you don‘t have access to them
deactivate safari additionally
keep devices on greyscale unless color is important ( notetaking on iPad, 1h consumption,…)
saturday:
media day :)
no harsh time restrictions
but be mindful of what you watch or listen to
be intentional: education, makeup tutorial, cooking/baking video, …
but don’t have to :) It can be binge-watching my fav series or new movies
ask myself if this is the best way spend my time. Go to the movies, the park or shopping maybe?

Digital Detox
Tumblr media
I’m almost at a week of my digital detox (I haven’t decided how long I wanna keep this up) no instagram, no TikTok and no YouTube, no Reddit no social media!!!!! and it’s been easier than I thought but that’s cause I downloaded Nextory so I’ve been listening to audio books and let me tell you guys it’s so refreshing to listen to a book.
It’s different from YouTube cause with YouTube you’re still bombarded with so much information especially for me cause I’m listening to productivity and law of attraction content and I’m getting fatigued by the over consumption of the same information.
with books it’s a lot more relaxing. with YouTube it’s like I’m watching 58383 videos on how to change my life but then I don’t even apply it. my brain is fried and it needs rest so I’m listening to books I want to read, so it’s not productivity books or self help books. It’s so cozy.
im not kidding when I say I’m listening to some pretty silly books but it’s alright cause reading is a hobby so I don’t need to pressure myself to read educational books all the time. We deserve to have hobbies for no other reason than entertainment in a world where everyone expects us to turn our hobbies into million dollar businesses. can we please get a break from the constant grind mindset?
I listen to a book while I cook and clean the apartment and then when I’m done I’m not dopamine deprived.
thanks to this detox I’m finding so much energy to plan a lot of stuff I’ve pushed off. I’ve even slept more out of pure boredom but it’s been sleep I’ve needed. I ordered 4 different Halloween costumes and I’m honestly so proud of myself cause last year I didn’t have the energy or focus to research and put together a costume in time.
