Redesigned my Firestar (x2), and I’m SO glad that I did, cause look!! He’s so pretty! Lovely lad!

Some design notes!

A cat of prophecy, so he bears a star mark! His is now on his belly and ears: for feeling, and for hearing.

Big ears, big tail, big floof… Small everywhere else — especially in stature.

Star socks on forepaws only, and heart shape on his chest!

Lots of fire motifs (obviously) on his face, torso, and tail.

Tons of swoops and semi-curls in his pelt. Nothing too drastic; he’s (very) thick-furred, not curly-furred.

Curled ears.

Scarring includes: Nicked ears, fox trap scar around his throat, across the right cheek, and a scar across his flank.

Happy 20th anniversary fellow battle kitty fans! I didn’t quite get this done in time for the anniversary, but I was only about 3 hrs late and I spent most of the anniversary night working on it, so whatever.

I decided to do a redraw of this to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Into the Wild. I also wanted to make it look like the Warriors book nook I made (I bought the wooden frame and cats (though I painted one to look like Ravenpaw), but the rocks I made from clay and painted and I decorated it all with bits of mini foliage I bought online)) that currently sits on my Warriors bookshelf. I think it's a pretty good interpretation of both of those. I'm particularly proud of how much I've improved between the 2016 drawing and this new one. It looks so, so much better.

I'm ridiculously proud of how that background turned out. It looks so damn good! I'm especially proud of how the Highrock and the walls of the ravine turned out. I never get rocks to look right, so I'm especially thrilled with how that turned out, and the hanging lichen looks so good! The patch of nettles next to the Highrock look alright, the tufts of tall grass look pretty decent, and I got kinda lazy with the ferns overhanging the walls of the ravine and the bramble bush behind the Highrock. This time, since it says the Highrock is at the end of the clearing, I figured the ravine must continue on at least a little while behind the Highrock, but it's all blocked off with bramble bushes and gorse so it's impassable. So I decided to show that here, and I think it turned out well. Not sure the walls of the ravine are high enough, but oh well.

I'm also really proud of how the cats turned out. Graystripe and Ravenpaw especially. Firestar still looks a little awkward on the face, but ah well. They're all missing some of their scars, since these are these three in their youth at the start of Firestar's leadership, a little after Scourge's defeat when the forest was at peace for the first time in seasons and ThunderClan stood strong with its new leader and deputy. Funny how they all ended up with one notch on their left (our right) ear. ^^ Not intentional, but funny.

The silhouette of the approaching cat is meant to be vague as to who it is. It can either be a representation of a new reader entering the world of Warriors for the first time and being welcomed in by the characters, or one of the future protagonists of whichever series, being hailed in by the heroes that came before them as the new hero of their day. Either way, I wanted the feeling of the viewer being welcomed in by our original trio. Dunno why Ravenpaw's there, guess we just happened to stop in while he was visiting his friends in ThunderClan. XD

Overall, I'm super, super proud of how this one turned out, it honestly looks amazing.

Firestar Redo | Longhair red ticked tabby and white | American Shorthair/British Longhair mix

Changes:

Removed his ankle stripes and simplified his tail for a more animator-friendly design.

Changed his mane to be more fire-like.

Gave him a heart-shaped clump of fur on his lower chest. This will be a trait given to all his descendants.

Altered his proportions and face shapes to match the breeds.

General Notes:

Cobby body shape. Body is roughly as long (excluding tail) as it is tall (excluding head & tail), and is bulky.

Wide head. Muzzle does not break oval when mouth is closed.

Face and neck fur should always point upwards.

Tail should point upwards unless necessary for emotion.

Wide set, large ears like the British Longhair.

Eyes are big, wide, and a round rectangle shape. Friendly, approachable look.

Heart on head is replaced with star after he receives his nine lives.

Nick in ear is received after Tigerclaw's raid on Thunderclan in Forest of Secrets.

Collar pushes fur up; 'neuters' the fire.

Playing with the idea of Tigerstar being a direct descendant of Thunderstar in my hyporewrite... I might make the concept of family lineage an important thing for ThunderClan in particular in my rewrite, which is why ThunderClan in particular taking in kittypets is like A Whole Thing. (though of course all the clans are dismissive of them to some extent, I imagine it varies.) But anyways, it's not a hard set rule or anything, but there is an expectation of making Thunderstar's descendants leader. Thunderstar himself didn't start this unofficial rule, but Owlstar did with one of Thunderstar's kits, initially in good faith. "Your father helped me and I owe a lot to him, and I would like to reward his kin in return" or something like that.

So not every single ThunderClan leader was a Thunderstar descendant obviously, Sunstar and Bluestar are important characters to note here, sometimes it's just not feasible, like the available kin are all elders, medicine cats, young warriors with no experience, or kits. But when a Thunderstar descendant IS eligible, then the expectation is that they will be selected as deputy. Sometimes yes, it is outright nepotism, but it's expected from other leaders. Pineheart was never ready to be leader, he never really wanted to be, but Doestar chose him because he's Oakstar's son, and he accepted because that is what's expected of him.

I like the idea of Tigerstar being held up on a pedestal partly because of his ancestry, like that's why everyone turns a blind eye when he abuses Ravenpaw and when he's more brutal in battle than he should. Lionheart being deputy for a short amount of time was seen as a fluke by the elders, and his death was a sign to them that StarClan disapproved of Bluestar breaking the unofficial rule.

It's just another layer to why Fireheart's deputy appointment was so controversial. And I like the irony here- Tigerstar's descendants would go on to be scorned, with cats saying he tainted Thunderstar's bloodline, and Firestar, the one who originally sought out to disprove the idea that bloodline matters, goes on to have his own bloodline seen as sacred by warriors of the future.

The cycle goes on.
