Wtf did he send Paul bettany? Genuinely asking. Doesn't excuse the fact that heard is still the abuser lmao
Google is free, but since I have time tonight, I'll share the messages with you. Also, I'm not going to get into a debate with you about Heard, so. You believe what you want to believe. Even if you believe that JD was the victim and that his texts were him "venting", that doesn't excuse Paul Bettany's responses. It was none of Paul's business, and a good friend would not have joined in on those death threats. Fuck Paul Bettany. He's a piece of shit and I hope something comes out one day that will tank his career. If defending JD is the hill you want to die on, then so be it.
Trigger warning for extremely graphic language and threats.
JD sent a text to Bettany in which he expressed that he wanted to burn Amber. Bettany replied (and this is paraphrasing but close enough): "I'm not sure we should burn Amber. She is delightful company and pleasing on the eye. We could of course do the English course of action and perform a drowning test. Thoughts? You have a swimming pool."
Why the FUCK would he say that? People who fantasize about murdering or harming someone are deeply disturbed people. Bettany is a piece of shit and I think he's unhinged and probably abusive. Normal, well-adjusted people don't say things like that. Johnny then said he would want to drown her, then burn her, and that he would fuck her burnt corpse to make sure she was dead. Again, this is not something that mentally stable, well-adjusted people say.
Paul's response: ": "My thoughts entirely! Lets be CERTAIN before we pronounce her a witch."
Fuck Paul Bettany, he's not even a good actor anyway. Fuck anyone who explains away or defends this behavior as "dark humor." It's NOT.

Reason #37
The smol-beanification of domestic abusers like Depp and Manson
No matter who you believe the people dancing to Amber's rape testimonies is disgusting.

tbh i just wanna thank my little circle of tumblr for having common sense about the trial. it’s been really nice to come here when other platforms were profiting off of this whole spectacle (Snap discovery page is a mess, TikTok it was inescapable, FBIG had so many of those sponsored fucking posts supporting him).

i don't understand what depp supporters think amber heard should have done. Genuinely, what could she have done that would be enough?
her authenticated pictures aren't "real" enough,
her therapist's notes saying she was abused could be lies because it's just her word,
she didn't leave him (even though many victims don't),
she was diagnosed with ptsd, but another therapist said that she's just histrionic, so that doesn't count.
what would be enough for these people?

Really incredible reporting on the (anti-)fandom element of Depp v. Heard by Kaitlyn Tiffany. I spoke to her a little bit when she was researching the piece and some of my quotes about the similarities to what happened in Loki fandom are also included!

I hope every youtuber who tried to profit off the Depp v Heard trial, whether it was through streaming or reacting or skits or memes, who constantly put that shit in my feed for weeks on end, knows that they directly influenced the absolute ruin of the metoo movement and crushed any hope for abuse victims under their heels for some cheap views. it should be legal to hunt them for sport

“We lose everything by creating a dichotomy between Amber Heard’s story and the theoretical stories of good victims, better victims, “real” victims — while, in the process, implying that her sustained public degradation is only bad because of what it will do to less difficult women.”
“Similarly, the mainstream MeToo movement offered temporary catharsis in place of systemic change; Hollywood play-acted a revolution so that its men could keep up their abuse unscathed. There is something phenomenally painful in watching a material backlash erupt in response to a movement that was never allowed to be anything more than aesthetic.”
“For anyone familiar with cycles of domestic abuse, this is nothing new — reactive violence is an extremely common result of the psychological degradation and fear responses that come with sustained abuse. Of course, violence is never okay, but the complete dehumanization of women who behave imperfectly in torturous circumstances is just one half of a Catch-22 which conspires to keep all women silent. If you were abused and did nothing, they’ll say you weren’t abused at all, and so you’re a liar and therefore an abuser; if you were abused and you fought back, then it means you were the abuser to begin with.”
“I think it’s essential to a much larger point (and, in reality, far more controversial) to believe Amber Heard is a victim while also acknowledging her wrongdoings. Once you start pushing the idea that a woman has to be perfect in order to be believed, you head down a road that ends with the systemic exorcism of any woman too human to be a good victim.”
“Heard’s story is a study in damnation, and it’s not a new one — when she didn’t have photographs of the abuse, it was proof she was lying. When she did, it means she faked them. When she had no witness accounts, it meant the violence never happened; when she did, it was proof she planned a grand conspiracy to bring Depp down. She was too loving at some points, too cruel at others; either so calm and collected that she must be lying or so distraught and uncertain that she must not know what she’s talking about. Amber Heard might not be a perfect victim, but she sure as hell is a typical one.”
“So if you’re one of the many people saying that you “believe victims, just not Amber Heard” — that you don’t think all women are psycho bitch liars, just Amber Heard — I sincerely regret to inform you that you are lying to yourself and others. Here’s the long and the short of it: if you can take an honest look at the evidence in front of you and not believe that Amber Heard is a victim of abuse, there are exceptionally few women who you actually would believe if they were to receive the same treatment.”
“This trial has conjured, in perfect, terrifying detail, a near-comprehensive list of reasons why any woman can be discredited, villainized, and crucified in the court of public opinion: if you ever dared to do anything but lie down and let yourself be hurt. If you’re mentally ill, or if you can reasonably be painted as mentally ill. (Womanhood is basically a symptom in and of itself, by the way — the psychiatrist who spot-diagnosed Amber Heard with histrionic personality disorder literally cited being “overly girly” as evidence.) If he's charming enough, handsome enough. Even if he's not handsome anymore — even if, hypothetically, he looks like a leathery skin sack gently deflating before our eyes as he leaks grease and prescription benzos — they will remember that he once was, and it will be enough. Whether it be with Johnny Depp or Brock Turner, the fantasy of a man’s illustrious past or bright future will always take priority over a woman’s present.”
“What’s happening to Heard is no accident. It’s a cosmic punishment rained down from every aspect of the patriarchal establishment — mainstream Hollywood, right-wing media, the GOP — that’s intended not only to kick her down one last time for daring to stand back up in the first place, but to serve as a looming warning to every woman who might be considering doing the same.”
“… if this could happen to Amber Heard, it could happen to anybody. Any strategy that capitalizes on the cultural fear of an angry, aggressive, crazy woman to justify financial and legal abuse will be used a thousandfold on more marginalized women who don’t have access to Heard’s social, cultural, or monetary currency.”

im not going to post anything else on this matter because it is so immensely draining and i am tired but i don't think i see anyone else saying this
amber heard was an abuser. that is true and fact.
unfortunately, she is also playing the world for fools, and treating her loss in a defamation case as a loss in a domestic abuse case where she was the abused.
let it be made clear: johnny depp was suing amber heard for defamation of his character, meaning he sued her for spreading lies and deceit about him in an effort to destroy his public image.
amber heard did not sue johnny depp for domestic abuse.
everyone who thinks this case was that needs to re-evaluate the trial and what it revealed.
however, it also needs to be established that yes, the public treatment of this case is incredibly damaging for domestic abuse survivors because amber heard is treating the case as that. johnny depp was an abuse survivor, but the media is not focusing on that aspect of the case, but instead every jokeable thing amber heard did on the stand. they are playing amber heard to be a court jester of an abuse victim instead of the malicious lying abuser she is.
THAT is why this case is damaging to domestic abuse survivors.
blame the way the public saw this case. not the case itself. the case went exactly how it needed to. the media reception did not.

Been lurking the Depp v Heard tags and...
cw: death/rape/abuse threats
I have seen so many posts where people are making points about why they think Depp is right and Heard is wrong, and their replies are full of Amber Heard supporters saying just vile things such as “k**l yourself” “I hope you get r*****” and “when your partner abuses you you’ll get the sympathy you receive :)” and other just digusting things like that.
This is coming from a place of support for either side, but concern for the people posting these comments mental health. If you have ever written a comment like/a tempted to do so this I want to suggest you:
1. Take a breath
2. Take a break from social media and the internet for a little bit, atleast a few hours
3. Talk to somone.
Because this level of vitriolic anger over a celebrity court case that doesn’t involve nor effect you is just plain unhealthy.
