Something I found ironic about the deleted Bubo and Isabela storyline is that I felt like the dynamic was much better suited for a young Julieta and Augustin instead. The perfect golden child of the Madrigal set apart from the rest slated to marry the perfect man her mother picked out for her only to fall in love with this sweet nerdy looking guy who actually sees her for who she is as a person rather than this perfect paragon the way everyone else does. Their match is frowned upon at first but eventually it becomes clear that they love each other and make the other very happy.

I for one live for Mariano and Isabela being bros/besties 🛐💕
Mariano Guzman, King if Himbos, long may he reign 🙏
A bit of a “deleted scene” from Flickering
Thank you “Friends,” for the incorrect quote
Tumblr media
Mariano was a big dumb hunk, okay? Mirabel liked him a lot, but that boy didn’t have two brain cells to rub together at the best of times.
Case in point, they had gathered to plot revenge against Catalina Arias. Mariano had happily answered Dolores’s summons to Casita and he listened as Camilo explained the plan.
For once, Mariano looked serious and downright offended. Mirabel was pretty sure she’d never seen Mariano look annoyed before. He was usually so easy-going and never one to hold grudges. For instance, Isabela accidentally broke his nose twice with flowers, then dumped him, and he still cheerfully referred to her as one of his best friends. Mariano simply didn’t have a spiteful bone in his body.
“Would you like to help?” Dolores asked him.
Mariano nodded as if he’d been given a very important mission. Which, to be fair, Mirabel would argue he had.
“Of course, amor!” he said. “No one should be allowed to get away with slandering your dear uncle! I would be proud to defend Señor Bruno’s honour!”
Even Isabela smiled then (Mirabel swore she even heard her sister murmur, “Aw,”) and Mirabel was reminded why she liked Mariano in the first place. Yes, he was a big dumb hunk, but he had a big heart too. Mirabel honestly enjoyed being his friend. They all did.
“But we must make sure Señora Arias truly learns her lesson,” Mariano said. “She must understand why she was wrong, or this is all a moo point.”
…Say what? Mirabel thought.
Isabela sighed, slouching in her seat. Camilo snorted.
Mariano looked perfectly serious.
“A moo point?” Mirabel asked uncertainly. Maybe he’d just misspoken.
Isabela didn’t look surprised. She was grinning outright. Exasperated, definitely, but fond and amused.
“Let him explain,” she said. Mirabel had the feeling Isa had heard this before.
“Sí.” Mariano nodded, giving Mirabel those big, earnest eyes. “Like a cow’s opinion. It doesn’t matter, you know? It’s moo.”
“I think cow’s opinions matter,” Antonio said, which only set Camilo off laughing.
Dolores fondly patted Mariano’s arm. Even she was giggling at him.
Mirabel shook her head fondly, barely biting back her own laughter. A moo point. She had to find Tio Bruno, he’d get a kick out of this.
“Ay, Mariano,” Isabela giggled. “You’re lucky you’re pretty.”
He beamed at her. “Aw, thank you, Isa!”
Camilo laughed so hard he fell off his seat. Giggling, Mirabel fled Camilo’s room in search of Bruno. He had to hear this.
As she left, she heard Isabela say, “Welcome to the protection squad.”

Chalk and Hope
Three days after Mirabel’s door disappeared, as her familia whispered behind closed doors about when her tío Bruno was going to reappear—he can’t be gone, I’m sure he just needs a little break, but that fight!—Mirabel realized the solution to her door problem. Casita must have had an issue with her door, so she just needed to draw a new one. That way the magical house could simply make it open into her room like it was supposed to.
Mind made up; Mirabel dug in her desk drawer for her special yellow chalk. She poked her head into the hallway to check if anyone was around. A low murmur came from the kitchen; Julieta and Pepa, but that was it.
Mirabel padded on soft feet to where her door used to be. Taking her chalk, she started drawing a careful outline. She wasn’t tall enough to trace a full door, but she stretched on her tippy toes anyway.
Careful, she drew edges as straight as she could. Then she added decorations to the edges like the other doors lining the hall. Little dumbbells, flowers, herbs; pictures from each member she carefully drew around the edges of the makeshift door.
If she was going to get her gift, she needed to be surrounded by her familia. At the top of the door, as high as she could reach, she drew a single hourglass for her tío Bruno.
She stood back when she was done; clapped off her dusty hands and then wiped them on her dress for good measure. It wasn’t like the magical door that used to be in the hall but—it was still pretty. It could still be hers.
“Please, Casita,” she whispered. “Please.”
Casita clinked tiles at her feet to show it was listening.
“I don’t…I don’t know why you made my door disappear.” She glanced up at the window that held the candle, the miracle burning strong. “I don’t know what I did wrong, but please. I’ll, I’ll be good, I promise. I want to help the village, the Encanto. I understand how important it is, I really do, I swear. Making my family proud…” her eyes filled with unshed tears. “Making my family proud is all I want to do. Please.”
She stood in front of the hand-drawn door, hoping, praying, a need to be gifted bred into her bones, reinforced by every important adult in her life.
Before her eyes, the wall rippled. The outline seemed to shudder as Casita manipulated the wall.
And then—
And then—
Her door—
Slowly—
Erased.
As if Casita itself was wiping a hand across the chalk on the wall.
The outline of the door—
Gone.
The symbols of her family—
Gone.
The hand-drawn doorknob—
Gone.
The last to disappear, the hourglass she’d drawn for Bruno—
Gone, in a faint shimmer of gold.
And then—
Nothing. The wall was plain, blank, with no chalk showing where her drawing had been.
Mirabel fell to her knees. This had been her last wild hope, her last chance at fixing the mistake that had been made. But Casita, the miracle itself, had rejected her once again.
She…she wasn’t ever going to get a gift. She would always be like this, passed over, rejected. She’d failed at the only task her family cared about. No wonder Abuela hadn’t come to comfort her that first night. Maybe…tío Bruno left…because of her? Because she hadn’t gotten her gift? Was she…was she even a Madrigal anymore?
Mirabel sat and cried in the hall, but this time there was no one to comfort her.

It finally happened to me: my characters wrote their own plot twist.
I was just trying to nail down more of the dialogue for my pirate au main story and an off-hand line in a moment of stress was like 'oh no, I am actually a thing'.
A very Big thing.
And it made the subsequent events hit even harder.
I am still shook
(It's staying ofc. win)

Watching the making of Wish
-Patting their backs for reusing animation as an homage. Like yeah, it’s nice, there’s work behind that, but it’s the way they say it, like: “We’ve worked hard! Trust us!” We know animation is hard and the problem with Wish was never the animation.
-I didn’t know Sabino was based on Roger from The Aristocats. I love Roger, he’s delightful. Poor Sabino just looks bland in comparison.
-They say Asha has her good and bad traits (which isn’t true) and is so brave to go against what she has believed her whole life. I've seen that done way better and with actually compelling characters.
-“She has to balance being a good friend and family member to speaking the truth and I think we can all relate to that” Well… nope. All those things can be different things. And both your friends and family should help you or at least listen to you.
-Saying that the “I want” song explains how the character is, like… duh.
-Well, yes, Ariana DeBose did great with what she was given.
-So Asha has freckles because some people of North Africa and Southern Spain have freckles… what? Any skin color can have freckles. And I can’t talk about North African people but Andalusian aren’t quite freckled (yes, that’s the name of Southern Spain). Also, I never saw her as mixed. She totally follows more of her mother’s culture. That’s why I don’t like her calling her father’s father saba. Her mother’s father would be her saba and her father’s father her abuelo.
-I love Bill Schwab’s designs, he’s a great artist. But he was only told Asha’s age, race and height. Which yeah, it’s important, but for designing a character you should think about their personality too, because that also translates into their features, hairstyle, clothes and mannerisms. We still don’t know anything about Asha. Is she shy? Likes comfy clothes? No, wait, she’s adorkable.
-They talk about Disney Princess gowns using elements from the current period where they were made (something quite interesting) but they just put the Modern twist in Asha’s hairstyle. Like, what were you afraid of?
-Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but Schwab’s just did his job with a model sheet and that was the ONLY reference they had for animating Asha for a while. Then one of them used his daughter as inspiration and then Ariana came with lots of ideas. They didn’t know how Asha moved for the longest time! Their lead character!
-They say Asha is pure energy, which is… somehow correct? Like she’s just awkward and making those weird moves and trying to be cute and funny. The movie is done and nobody knows yet who the heck is Asha as a character.
-Apparently, Asha has details of pumpkin seeds all over her clothes and she’s wearing periwinkle because of the idea of making her THE Fairy Godmother. I still think she looks better in orange.
-Seeing the voice acting outtakes was good. But now I wish the Bland Dwarfs looked more like the actors. All of them have interesting features that could have been implemented in the designs instead of making them clones of the Encanto family and the mother from Strange World.
-The first deleted scene is after Sabino retrieves his wish and he sings a song. I would have put it in the end as a farewell song with everyone joining it.
-"The Wish equation" is to have a true wish, be responsible of it and… finding support? Fight for it? Exclude fear? Accept change? What are we even talking about? A dream career?
-They say the FG gave Cinderella the dress but couldn’t make the Prince fall in love with her, so she was supporting her! Like… Cinderella just wanted to go to the ball. BAM, there you go, a new dress, WISH GRANTED. Cinderella’s wish wasn’t to make the Prince fall in love with her, she didn’t even know him yet!
-“Music happens when you’re too overwhelmed with emotion.” This clip plays AFTER a snippet of "Welcome to Rosas". I guess Asha was too overwhelmed with being late. That shouldn’t have been a song, she should have told us about Rosas in the book opening.
-They wanted it to be like a fairytale and then hired a pop composer. Like the director says she grew up with the Disney Renaissance Era. Which used Broadway music!
-They talked about this earlier but “This wish” was the song that helped them write the movie, just like "Let it go" made them rewrite Frozen. So you can tell they didn’t have much to work on, maybe an idea: “Hey, just do a fairytale about wishes for our anniversary.”
-The songwriter was so overwhelmed with the commission she had to reach a friend to help her.  Maybe because nobody actually knew what the movie was about? But hey, she’s the youngest to ever write a Disney OST.
-You know? The more I hear “This wish” the more I’m sure it’s the best song of the entire soundtrack.
-Hey, I know that guy in the archive! I’ve seen this clip before!
-I’m just hearing they didn’t know what the heck to do and dived into the archive for inspiration. I like the idea that they studied the greatest artists for some scenes, but sadly, all that is lost in the movie. They scenes are too short to appreciate the animation, but A+ for effort.
-They thought doing a fairytale illustration style was difficult to do… in 3D. Just don’t do it in 3D! Also, I don’t think it’s that difficult, Blue Eyed Samurai did something great.
-The composition is interesting and the backgrounds too, but the characters look quite bad.
-The illustration style led to the backgrounds (and everything) being in focus, which I think it also makes the movie look weird. Look at any old painting: the background is less detailed than the main focus (less brush strokes). They could have gone that direction. The backgrounds of Wish are too detailed a lot of the times and always in focus, so it’s distracting.
-BTW, most of this is: “We did this like in this movie, that like in that movie…” but, what’s original? What makes Wish its own movie?
-They talk about lines like lineart in animation, which we’ve seen it masterfully in Spiderman. But here is so subdued it doesn’t add anything.
-“Wouldn’t it be great to have a warmer climate than the one we’re used in fairytales?” Yeah, because there’s snow in Encanto and Hercules. Also, nothing tells us that’s a warmer climate. Google “Andalusia”, please. There’s flowers in bright colors everywhere, white houses, narrow streets and people, just a lot of loud and happy people. That’s Southern Spain for you all.
-At least with Frozen we CAN TELL it’s Norway. Here, there’s nothing that says SPAIN. Give us people eating serrano ham or tortillas, maybe put a bull around there, have them drink wine from botijos and play guitars!
-Again with the “this was based on this”. Rosas was inspired by The Sleeping Beauty: Germany and France. That’s a whole different architectural design! There’s no verticality as main focus in Mozarab architecture, is all about curves.
-“So it’s your fault.” Yeah, that doesn’t sound fun. I have the feeling you’re not telling a lot of things.
-You know, another Fantasia would have been great. Maybe one with all the Disney characters.
-This is now about the story of Disney, so yeah, padding. Also, way to use “At all costs” in the background. We don’t want to remember what you’ve done in the past, we just want you to tell a good story again.
-This should have been the beginning, the “wish upon a star” that put Wish in motion.
-It was going to be about the origin of the wishing star?
-“Return of Disney villain” Hahahahahahah…
-They didn’t know how bad Magnífico could be and made him do mean stuff like smashing Sabino’s guitar (they called it a guitar here).
-Also, apparently he was going to be shirtless in a scene. Like, you know, a Disney villain.
-We don’t watch him BECOME a villain, we watch a magic book CONTROL him!
-“With "This is the thanks I get" I was like, oh, yeah, we have a narcissist.”, so they didn’t know anything about Magnífico until the song was written! That’s why he doesn’t act like a narcissist much until that song and why the mirror ending felt rushed.
-“When Chris Pine came in I was like: that’s it, that’s the character.” Because they didn’t even had designed it? Like, that’s literally him!
-He did give it all to that song.
-Magnífico was an alchemist?
-“We didn’t want people to know he was evil right away.” Every poster and article: “Disney’s new villain, everybody!”.
-“Makes him more dangerous the quieter he is.” Magnífico in the end battle: eyes fully open, screaming, laughing.
-Oh, Star, here we go. He was going to be pure energy as well… just like Asha! Yeah, we were robbed. BTW, he’s not like Genie or Maui. Maui and Genie aren’t even the same!
-He could have been a fantastic creature as well. And all those designs look crazily fun. But also that’s the kind of exploration you do at the beginning of the production, not in the middle. Unless someone meddles…
-Someone went out to design different sparkles for Star but I could only see it being adorkable. Focused on the face so the sparkles weren’t even noticeable.
-“…they put their personality on it (Star)” Yeah, because none of these characters had any personality… nor have it now that the movie is done.
-People being made of stardust is one of the most beautiful scientific facts. “You are a star” is the worst song in the movie. No wonder it took so long to write.
-Nope, Doc was a leader. Dalia is just there… talking. Of course she’s a way to get the medal of  “we put a disabled character” but at least she has more personality than Asha.
-BTW, just saw the Story Artist wearing a pin with a Pride flag in the shape of a Mickey.
-“She’s just a young woman, going with her life.” “And succeeding.” Yeah, representation is good, but it’s better if you’re not talking about how good you are for doing it.
-Also, we have mixed-race representation, older people with dreams representation, etc. but hey, that girl has a crutch, we’re cool.
-“Animals in Disney have to be smarter than people.” Why? Just why? And also, Valentino is no way smarter than any of the other characters. So why say that?
-“(Alan Tudyk) He pretty much made the whole character.” Yeah, because it looks like nobody had any idea of how these characters were.
-“Inspiration can came from anywhere.” You just COPY-PASTED the ideas of others.
-“Everybody has seen me crying in the studio.” For a good or bad reason?
-Ending with a Walt quote proclaiming they always do their best job… huh…
-“It served the story better to have Amaya as a good person.” Yeah, nope. It made no sense for her to switch sides so easily.
-Sabino dying would have been such a strong way to start the story. Him stealing Asha’s diary… yep, not good.
-Reinforcing my theory that Disney wanted to move away from shapeshifters after the Nimona fiasco.
-Looks like they gave the chaotic energy Star was going to have to Valentino.
-Making any other animal talking surely was a mistake. What’s with the sassiness?
-Dalia wasn’t called like that?! BTW, the writers were so proud of her clutch not being mentioned but, in the deleted scene, it’s the first thing they do. Twice.
-“When you’re underestimated, they don’t see your power coming until it changes the world.” Whoa, just whoa. Disney writers, everybody.
-LOL, the deleted scene with the animals is so bad. But Magnífico was going to transform into a Beast, so… kinda interesting?
Here's the link, BTW.
And congratulations if you read this all. If you're interested, here are my own Wish rewrites: 1, 2.

Encanto: Madrigal Family Relationship Analysis Part 25 - Mirabel and Felix
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not much is now about this uncle-niece duo but I think one scene in particular sheds light on their relationship: Their talk right before the WDTAB song - When Mirabel is curious about Bruno and his gift, Felix comes in (dramatically) to tell her, even explaining to Pepa that it's best for Mirabel to know. In that short moment, Felix listens to and honestly gives his youngest advice the answer she's seeking (even if said answer is vague and not entirely accurate). But, we see that Felix is genuinely taking Mirabel's concerns seriously; that shows how much he respects and loves Mirabel. Then, when the house is collapsing, Felix can be heard shouting for Mirabel to get out and he's then shown looking for her when she goes missing; both times indicating that Felix has a strong, paternal protective side for his niece. On the other hand, Mirabel has nothing but respect and love for her uncle; if you were to ask her the best description of him, she would say without hesitation, "The definition of cool uncle!" And I also think she and Felix (with Agustin) formed their own special "non gift" trio (as seen in a deleted scene), mainly because they wanted to help Mirabel not feel bad about not having a gift.

My research findings on the production of Wish
Never have I seen a fan community do so much with so little than I have with Wish. And to start off, I want to say that you should watch the movie first before going into this and the Starboy fandom as I believe it to be important on forming your own opinion before moving on as I find most of the fandom to have a negative view of the movie, one I do not really share. I found Wish to be fine. I did not hate it, but I did not love it like I do other Disney animated films. But the many rewrites, drawings and animatics featuring character designs that did not make it far in production have become icons in this community inspired me to do a deep dive to see if I could find where in production these concepts died and why.
To save you a read, this production was a victim of simplicity. I feel that many concepts and story ideas were tossed away due to complicating the story, which was always going to focus on Asha trying to save the wishes of her fellow kingdom citizens with the help of a wishing star. I have read many articles and watched a few deleted scenes from the home release and here are my findings.
Starboy never got far in development as the book states that the team went down "a few blind alleys" that lead them to star having a human design for a period. This is probably the period in time where all the Starboy concept art came from and where a potential romantic subplot with Asha was kicked around. It was.
What did Starboy in was the team's choice to make them a shapeshifter as the team thought the character was way overpowered and thus the story lost a lot of dramatic tension (a choice I kind of agree with). It was here where the design team decided that Star needed an overhaul and brought the Story Development artists in and this is where Starboy died and plush Star was finalized.
There are no official storyboards that feature the Starboy designs.
At the start of Wish's production, Frozen 2 was entering it's final stage of production (this would be either late 2018 or early 2019) and was obviously the main focus for Disney animation not to mention projects like Raya and the Last Dragon, Strange World and Encanto were entering their mid development stages before the shutdown.
The effects of the global shutdown were not mentioned in the book, but I would not be shocked if production was affected by it.
Ariana DeBose has said that Wish did not need a love story as she said that,
“I think we live in a time where things are cyclical, right? And so, it’s good for variance and perspective. Not every female Disney character needs to have a go and ambition of simply finding a man to love her. There are more stories to tell.
"And especially in the world we live in today I think something like Wish, that has a broader outlook that talks about community, is just as important as talking about love. And there are so many different ways to love."
"You do see familiar love, love of friendship" in the movie, including the relationship between Asha and Star. Star and Asha have this beautiful connection with each other and so I think it’s good reminding people that not only we can tell different stories, we can also talk about love in different ways.”(source: Exclusive: Wish’s Ariana DeBose defends lack of romance in recent Disney movies (yahoo.com)) whether Ariana had any say on story or character development is unknown.
7. From what I read from the Art of Wish book, the story was always meant to be about Asha defying Magnifico to fight for the people of Rosas and their wishes.
8. As it pertains to "At All Costs", a song that many are saying was meant to be a love song between Asha and Star, in an article by Variety(Julia Michaels Wrote 'Wish' Theme Before the Script Even Existed (variety.com), it states that a love song was not in the film at the time of production and songwriter Julia Michaels "wanted to write a song that as a standalone sounded like a love song that could be played at weddings."
Michaels would go on to say, "How cool would it be if we wrote a song that if you listened to on its own, it sounds like a love song, it could be something you could play at your wedding, or be a lullaby to your kids, just something really beautiful, but when you watch the film, it’s the heroine and it’s the villain.” She continues, “You realize they’re coming about this both from various points, one from a very selfless standpoint and one from a selfish standpoint.”
9. In the same Variety article, it was revealed that for some time in 2020, no script existed for the movie, but Julia Michaels was asked to be the songwriter for the movie and that is where she pitched "This Wish" which would go on to be one of the first songs revealed for the movie.
10. the Variety article also had Jennifer Lee, head of Disney Animation and one of the writers on Wish, say that she wanted a song that showed "it felt like to hold someone’s wish in your hand. How do we viscerally understand that when you’re with them, you feel like you’re holding someone’s raison d’être?” that song would end it being "At All Costs"
11. September 9, 2022, D23 Expo in Anaheim California. This is where certain members of the public got a glimpse of the production of Wish. Jennifer Lee, writer and director Chris Buck, and co-director Fawn Veerasunthorn spoke about the movie and showed the first look of the finalized design of Star which ended up being the mute plush model that ended up in the movie. This means there was a 3-year gap where Starboy and the romance side plot were discussed then shelved.
It was also during this show where the public would learn that Ariana DeBuse would voice Asha and that Alan Tudyk, a staple of past Disney animated films, would have a featured role in the movie as Asha's pet goat Valentino, who would be able to talk thanks to Star's magic. It was also at that show where DuBose came out to sing "This Wish" but at the time the song was called "More for Us".
Magnifico was not revealed at the event but was teased as "one of the most formidable foes in Disney history" which is debatable to say the least.
12. 5 deleted scenes in total appear on the Wish digital and disc copies each introduced by head of story Mark Kennedy where he would describe why the scene got cut. One scene shows Amaya assisting Magnifico in his plan, tying into an early concept where she was a villain alongside him.
Another scene had Asha, Star (who in this scene could shape shift and talk) and Valentino try to sneak into Rosas before being spotted and chased by Amaya, once again acting antagonistic to Asha.
A scene had Magnifco gather the people of Rosas to demand Star be given to him, as he had never seen Star in this version, and Asha her friends try to distract him by having Valentino, who in this version had a more Steve Carell like voice, pretend to be Star while the real Star, who was voiced in this version and was designed as ball of light with eyes and mouth, was trying to free the captured wishes. This scene was changed because they wanted Magnifco to be more threatening and instead of asking the people for Star, he would capture Star. Kennedy would go on to say that they wanted Asha and Magnifico to be smart and that Asha would not do a plan that silly, and they wanted the climax to be Magnifico and Asha alone, so they set it on a platform high above Rosas.
The next scene featured an ally of Asha's named Flazino that was cut out in order to shrink her friend group and tied the group back to the seven dwarfs from Snow White.
Finally, there was a scene where Asha and her grandfather scaled a wishing tree with her grandfather Sabino that showcased their bond but also Sabino's insistence that Asha take down Magnifico.
Each of these scenes felt completely different to the movie that ended up being released.
13. It should be noted that Wish released only a short while after the 2023 Writers and Actors strikes, which meant that for most of the summer and fall of that year, the actors could not do any press for the movie and all marketing was done through ads, trailers and merchandise.
14. As revealed in an article for Disney twenty-three, a magazine for gold members of the Disney D23 Fanclub, in the early visual development stage, there was a test scene that Asha was briefly transported to the village from Pinocchio. This was done to see how the 3D character designs would match with the hand drawn, watercolor backgrounds of classic Disney movies.
15. In that same article, Chris Buck said that in regard to Magnifico's character development that they wanted the audience "to see the evolution of a villain, so he's not a monster from frame one". From what becomes of Magnifico I get what they tried to do, they wanted to show how a character falls into villainy even if they're intentions are good. It also stands with the modern writing style of Disney animation films trying to update classics, this time by having audiences start off by kind of liking the villain through their personality alone.
18. The article also briefly mentions that Star "went through many iterations" another hint of Starboy being considered as a final design.
19. In the Art of Wish book, there is a page that shows the script where Asha meets Star and Star is described as a "cuddly, 3D, five-pointed star." This would indicate that the Starboy concept never got to the scripting stages.
20. In Art of Wish, the reason why Star does not speak is because the film makers wanted to stick to a tenet of film making, show don't tell.
21. Star's face was inspired by the mask like face of early Mickey Mouse cartoons.
22. From all readings, it is safe to say that Asha was NEVER considered to be a princess in any of the iterations of the story as some writers felt it to be too safe of a choice and liked the idea of an ordinary citizen going against the established power of the king.
23. During production, the Disney CEO position changed twice as Bob Iger left the company in early 2020 and named Bob Chapek as his replacement before returning to the company in mid 2023. It is unknown if these changes had any effects of Wish's production as it was it stated development as Iger's first tenure was ending but took place during a majority of Chapek's time.
24. When Angelique Cabal, who voiced Amaya in Wish, first auditioned for the role the character in 2022 Amaya was written as a villain while Magnifico was supposed to be the good king. It was when she returned for the callback that Amaya was changed to what she ended up being in the movie. Source https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/how-one-character-disney-wish-completely-changed-during-production
In closing, for fans of the Starboy concept, it saddens me to say that it looks the idea only made it as far as concept art as at the time of writing this, no animated sequences, scripts or storyboards have been released that had Star in a human design or discussed a romantic relationship with Asha. I believe the writing team found a romantic relationship between Star and Asha too complicated for the story and decided to simplify the relationship and design of Star to better suit the plot of Asha going against Magnifico. I am disappointed Wish did not go with the more interesting concepts but maybe down the line we'll get that cosmic Disney romance and a villain couple, it just has to work with the story.
I want to say thank you for those that made it to the end, this movie has been on my mind for quite a while and seeing all the re-writes, drawings and animations people have done for Starboy and Asha has been amazing to see. These works have inspired me to rewatch Wish at some point to see if Starboy could have worked in the movie with the story as is, and even share how I would have changed a few things in the story to fit the character and a romantic subplot with Asha plus an idea on how to bring in Starboy while still staying true to the established cannon.
I do hope others watch and enjoy Wish as from what I have read the team did put a lot of effort to makes this movie worthy of not only the high standards Disney animation has set, but as a piece of the 100-year story telling of the Walt Disney company. Film making is already hard enough as it is, especially in animation, but having to make a movie with an original concept and characters that still pays tribute to 100 years of storytelling is a daunting task and I understand and respect the choices they made when making the film and you should as well.

Questioning
Camilo, Isabela, and Bruno. A deleted scene from fabril’s photograph prompt where Camilo and Isa do decide to bother Bruno about his....gay affairs with their dads. Can easily be read on its own as non-fab so I thought I’d share. Happy madrigays pride month! 🌈
--
The immeasurable guilt complex Bruno has over leaving them manifests in his eldest nieces being able to do pretty much whatever they want with him. This has mostly involved getting him to help Isabela in the garden or listening to romantic boleros with Dolores, and having soft conversations where they reminisce about their childhoods. Camilo is pretty sure that his soft spot for Isabela — combined with her secret weapon, congeniality — will get him to talk about his favorite subject: romance.
Camilo watches her from afar — at a proper distance so he won’t get implicated in case this goes wrong — as she sidles up next to tío Bruno.
Their uncle is sitting in a patch of sunlight absorbed in his own thoughts, making little drawings. He startles when he notices Isabela enter his space. They exchange a few pleasantries before she falls quiet and modest, sliding him into her trap.
“Tío…” she begins. “Can I ask you something about relationships? It’s a weird question.”
“Nothing is weird to me,” Bruno says earnestly. It’s true. He really has no limit.
“Do you think it’s possible to be in love with someone…I guess it’s kind of like your telenovelas…Where it’s three people but they all love each other equally?”
“Heh-heh, I’m guessing this isn’t about you and Lola and Mariano, right? I mean I write that sorta thing but that’s not really- let’s not go there.”
Her polished mask quickly falls at that. She squints her face. “So weird.” She shakes her head. “No, I don’t mean us three, Tío. I mean like”– and here she straightens up the way she does when she gets nervous –”when it’s like a…same-sex relationship.”
As if she’s touched his soul, Bruno’s shoulders go slack. His wide hazel eyes stare at her.
Then he takes her hand as if she’s porcelain and gently squeezes it with his knobby fingers. “It’s okay to feel that way. Totally okay. Abuela- no. The Encanto’s older generation are traditional and don’t always see what’s best for their kids, but there’s nothing wrong with that kind of love. I’d know. I’ve seen it. You could even get married! If, say, a girl likes another girl but she’s engaged or even married to a boy, then, then those feelings are valid to have and you don’t need to feel ashamed–”
She shoots right up.
“Hold up,” Isabela interrupts before he can validate her any further. “Tío, I’m not like that.”
He makes a confused face. “You’re not?”
“No!” she says indignantly. “I mean. I…I don’t– I wasn’t talking about myself. But, thank you, in any case. I’m sorry. I’ve gotta go.”
She stands up from the bench and kisses his forehead, which he wrinkles in confusion, his lip pouting. “Okay,” he says drily. “So why did you ask?”
“Don’t worry about it, Tío. Thanks anyway.”
She stands up, shoulders straight, and strides away. Bruno watches her go, befuddled by the exchange.

Leap of Faith - Deleted Scene
Tumblr media
Deleted Scene from chapter 5 of The Final Straw
I wasn’t happy enough with this to include in the main fic but I still think it’s funny so I’m posting it here.
Ay, this is a disaster. Bruno dragged his hand down his face and walked away towards the stairs, apparently fully expecting Mirabel to follow him.
She stared open-mouthed as he just walked across the gigantic crevice like it wasn't there.
Yeah, no.
He was definitely a ghost.
He stopped in midair and turned back to her. "You coming or not?"
"Uh, Tio, I can't float or whatever it is you're doing."
"Huh? Oh! Oh, the leap of faith bridge I forgot." He took a handful of something out of his pocket as he came back to where Mira was standing near the edge. "I saw this in a movie once and asked Casita to replicate it." He scattered the, (was that salt?) salt, apparently, on the group in front of her. The ground that a second before had clearly been a 1000-foot drop to certain death.
"Uhhhh"
Bruno misinterpreted this for wonder instead of terrified confusion. "Neat isn't it? Now come on there's no way I'm letting you swing across again that's insanely dangerous.
“And this isnt?!” Mira yelped as he pulled her forward.
Mirabel didn't know what was worse keeping her eyes open and staring down at the abyss beneath her feet or closing her eyes and putting blind faith in her uncle's hand on hers to keep her from falling to her death.
She also wasn't sure if this was better than swinging across. At least that's she'd understood what the heck was going on.
After a few seconds that definitely actually last a million years Mirabel's feet once again touched visible solid ground.
“Oooh Dios mio never again that was terrifying" Mira groaned, leaning on the wall for extra reassuring points of contact.
She turned to look at Bruno who looked like he was desperately trying to say something but the words wouldn't come.
"Mirabel! Are you alright?" Julieta called
Bruno startled at the sound and jumped backward to press himself against the wall.
He glanced at Mirabel one more time.
"...Bye."
And scampered off back across the chasm and into the vision cave

I need your help, tumblr!
I am looking for an Encanto story from AO3 that I forgot to bookmark (or maybe I deleted it by accident while I was cleaning up).
I loved the story and would like to find it again. I remember one scene in it and can’t remember if it was chaptered or part of a series.
The scene:
Bruno and Luisa end up sleeping in a hammock together (PLATONIC!!!) and she ends up using him as a teddy bear or rag doll. In the morning, he tries to get out of the hammock but can’t escape Luisa’s arms. She stays asleep through his fidgeting. Camilo finds them and doubles over laughing, he tries to take a picture but is laughing too hard. A few other family members laugh at his failed attempts of leaving the hammock until Luisa finally wakes up and releases him.
If you know this one, please can you give me the link for it? I’ve been looking for it for some time now.
Reblogs appreciated!!!!
Thank you thank you!

All My Stuff
Hola! I'm usedtobeguest123 (...because I ghosted around as guest123 on A03 before creating an account for myself 😁). Encanto-enamored book nerd. I love writing and am dabbling with art (newbie). Feel free to shoot me Encanto writing or art prompts--family fluff is my jam. I have tiny little humans I care for and sometimes go on long hiatuses, but I'm still around :)
Writing
Current fic: La Traes - This is the sequel to my first fic, Bruno from Before, but you could probably read it on its own. La Traes is the spanish name for the childhood game of tag, but it literally means "You carry it." This fic follows the (fluffy) relationship between Bruno, Mirabel, and Antonio, and is an experiment where I work through how trauma can rob us of childhood, and how we might possibly heal and get a little bit of it back.
Bruno from Before - My first fic! It takes place about 7 months after the movie. An exploration of Mirabel and Bruno's relationship post movie. Mirabel begins to learn more about Bruno from before the walls and is determined to help him find his way back.
Alma, After - I love Alma's character. This is a little dabble I wrote about her grief, and it ended up being a bit of a epilogue to Bruno from Before. Chronologically, it hits somewhere in the middle of La Traes.
Quiet - A collection of Encanto one-shots. They started out having the theme of "quiet," but it's really just a place for me to put my little snippets of writing :)
A Little Wasted Time - A one-shot where Mirabel and Camilo talk it out. It's a bit of a deleted scene from Bruno from Before.
How Are You Feeling, Hermano? - A one-shot I wrote after seeing this AMAZING art by @junosaccount. Bruno is sick and Julieta is there to do what she does best.
The Time You Give Me - Bruno - A super fun collab I did with the lovely @breannasfluff 💚 The pairing is a fun look into the mind of an introvert (Bruno) and an extrovert (Mirabel) who care about each other. This is the introvert side. Make sure to read Breanna's, too!
El Milagro de la Bebé - My fic for the @encantobigbang! Dolores is worried about her Mamá, and to help her she seeks out the most okayest man for the job - Tío Bruno. Pranks and family fluff ensue. Check out @lunaencantada's AMAZING art that goes with it!
You can find more of my little tumblr only one-shots under Encantober below.
