In the end, it seems to me that making her Lady of Bessbury was a better option for her so that her children could inherit Honeyholt.

Good for whom?

As an aristocratic Westerosi daughter (and the daughter of Jaehaerys I - more on him in a moment), Saera had neither the agency nor the liberty to choose her romantic/sexual partners in the ordinary course of events. While she answered, somewhat blithely, that she would likely be married to one of her lovers once her parents discovered her relationships (we'll put aside her comment on marrying all three), it does not appear that Saera had a deep interest in marrying any of them, Beesbury included. Rather, what Saera seems to have wanted was the freedom to do as she liked with her sexuality - a choice fundamentally incompatible with Westerosi marriage, where not only would Saera be cut off from the possibility of any romantic/sexual relationships beyond that with her husband, but also where she would have been required to be available to that husband for sex whenever he decided.

Jaehaerys, for his part, was not simply a patriarchal Westerosi father, but a particularly violent misogynist, one whose love for his children (and his female relations generally) seems to have been not only limited but defined by those biases. If there is some precedent in Westeros for aristocratic fathers covering up their daughters' sexual scandals (as Westerosi society sees them, anyway) through quick marriages - see, say, Delena Florent's marriage to Hosman Norcross, or Amerei Frey's marriage to Ser Pate of the Blue Fork - I don't believe Jaehaerys had any interest in such a marriage for Saera following the revelation of the affair. To marry Saera to Braxton might imply, in the king's mind I think, that Jaehaerys almost post facto approved of their sexual relationship. To satisfy that violent misogyny, Jaehaerys would instead redefine both parties in a way which both absolved him of blame and allowed him to channel his fury: Braxton became the criminal knight who had "seduced and despoiled" a royal maiden - who had, in effect, taken from Jaehaerys the ownership of Saera's virginity and sexuality - while, simultaneously, Saera was retroactively defined as a "whore", to be punished and shamed as Westerosi society so often does sex workers.

And all of this is in the context of a king (and queen) who seem to have cared little if at all for the political advantages any of their children's marriages might have brought. Indeed, Jaehaerys' pleasure that "[t]hey would not need to scour the realm to find a match for Saera, when three such promising young men were here at hand" speaks to how little Jaehaerys contemplated the diplomatic alliance Saera's marriage might have represented: Braxton was the heir to an old but relatively minor family of Hightower vassal lords, hardly as high-ranking as Saera herself (and in fact, perhaps not even of the same rank as his two fellow suitors, both of whom were the lords or heirs to seats directly sworn to the crown's paramount vassals). Any good, in a purely geopolitical sense, that might have come from the marriage of Saera and Braxton Beesbury would have been at best speculative and limited by lack of power, ability, and influence on the parts of both House Beesbury and Braxton personally.

Elena never moaned as loudly with Stefan as she did simply kissing Damon in 3x19. And of course the mutual orgasm scene in 4x8. It's canon Damon pleased her more in that department. Stefan looked more turned on making eye contact with Katherine in 3x4 than he did with Elena. Even when he looked turned on with Elena, which was during her no humanity phase, he compared her to Katherine. SEers think the flirt with your eyes dialogue in 1x19 matches Stelena better than Delena and that Damon isn't as good flirting with his eyes with Elena. What are some scenes you can think of where they flirt with their eyes? 1x2 and 3x14 come to mind.

Yeah, there's no comparing their pleasure... Delena is fire. Elena moans in 3x19 and Damon moans in 4x7. They're so into each other that they'll kiss until a breath is needed to survive, that's what those moans are lol. Their sex in 4x8 is hot af, more so with the soundtrack they chose for Elena. The section of lyric that speaks to her steadily emerging with grace... she's finally emerging as her true self, as Damon's girlfriend. Something she's been trying to do since Denver.

There's nothing Stelena does better than Delena except friendship. I actually feel Stelena has more chemistry while they're friends and "barely there" chemistry while they dated.

Stefan doesn't do flirting with the eyes better than Damon because of the very purpose for it. That's what got Elena in 1x19, and why she tells him to stop doing it in 1x22. She's attracted to it. Watch 3x19, how Elena reacts to his bedroom eyes. His eye flirting is what hooked Caroline in the pilot episode.

They had gathered at that particular hour, and since then they have chattered and laughed like a happy swarm of bees, discussing one subject or another. Gossip wasn't something Rhaenys was fully fond of, but these were pleasant topics.

Bethany wore a ribbon on her hand, which was made from her new dress' fabric. The one she adored, like a wedding dress, Rosaline teased her, making her feel like a bride.

Delena chattered about the style she would do her hair.

Rhaenys was happy, but she didn't need to show off her engagement clothes or jewelry. Not because she wasn't spoiled by her parents or Uncle Baelon, or because she wasn't interested in court fashion, but because her interest was only around Corlys.

What caused him not to want them to go further? His caresses were never enough. He had asked for her hand, yes, he wanted to be his wife, but he made no further moves to put her on his bed. And now he was on Driftmark and he hadn't written her a single word.

Rhaenys concealed her doubts and annoyance from everyone except Lyanna who stared at her.

Even though she hadn't expressed herself, the Darry girl had the ability to be annoying at times.

"Maybe we should put away these uninteresting topics for a while, so that Rhaenys can talk about her own engagement. Does the lord admiral deserve his fame?"

Lyanna chuckled as she spoke.

Rhaenys smiled, but anger boiled in her chest. Something was beyond her control, and she did not like this conversation at all. Despite the situation, Lyanna continued to talk.

"Did you go to bed with him, yes? Since you have chosen this man as your match. I'll be struck by the opposite unless you're not the only woman in your sailor's heart. You are the most important, however, and that's what matters.

02. ✘ my elena is portrayed in early season tvd, so please keep that in mind if you write in later season tvd/ect. my elena is primarily human. the only time i'll write her as a vampire is upon request/with a plot in mind. and if with stefan, then certainly loyal to stefan. i personally despise the way plec changed elena's characterization + morals from the elena i got to know in early season tvd, so i will not be doing that here and a good part to my reasoning why i'm early tvd based. my version of this character would never betray stefan, especially for damon. unlike plec, i'm not writing for fan vote.

03. ✘ be mindful of triggering themes such as gore, blood, death, drowning; ect on this blog.

so i just finished watching guardian - the lonely and great god, and i have to say, never thought any drama would match our beloved summer, but here we are.

WHAT could be better than gong yoo and lee dong wook fighting with telekinesis?

i. one issue i noticed a lot of people had when i read the reviews — the age gap. yes, i completely agree, it was weird to see a thirty-something man fall in love with a girl who kept acting like a 13 y/o, but at the same time, it's mentioned quite clearly that she's 19/20. it's hardly ever a problem that is faced by people who ship vampires and humans (cough delena stelena cough).

ii. mild solace for those who were severely creeped out tho — in the last few episodes, there's a time jump of 9 years, and they get properly married. (eun-tak without kim shin was totally geet in manali era)

iii. gong yoo's acting? chef's kiss. but that's to be expected of a great actor. watching guardian prompted me to watch his slap scene in squid games again, so good. when he smiled, i felt wiggly inside.

iv. nothing nothing nothing will ever beat the bromance of grim reaper and goblin. their telekenisis knife fights? shin immediately taking out a sword when reaper offers a hug? banging the table to throw salt and pepper around? chaotic man children and i loved them.

v. sue me, but i loved the second lead couple as much as the main couple. i didn't love them very extravagantly, mainly because i was constantly annoyed with sunny's attitude initially, but that grew to be so awesome. loved her for making the healthy choice when she left, broke my heart for yeo, but loved her still.

vi. a separate point for deok hwa in his almighty era you go bitch he looked so hot in that bar scene

anyway, that was it for this one, im watching legend of the blue sea, boys over flowers, tale of the nine tailed right now. whichever i finish first, I'll be sure to post! recommend some other ones you like, and I'll share my watchlist as well

My OTP SHIPS!

Is it OTPs if it is more than one or just favorite ships?

These pairings beat the odds and stand the test of time. They genuinely choose to love every day, even if it’s the least easy path. None of them expect to fall in love. Most go through (figurative with some literal) hell and heaven and back for each other.

1. Melinda Gordon & Jim Clancy

They are the most healthy and realistic TV couple I’ve ever witnessed. Truly my place of realistic bliss! Simple but just as effective.

2. Jamie & Claire Fraser

These two individuals are true equals in every sense of the word - independent heroes. They don't depend on each other to be strong individually, but they choose to be together which makes them even stronger. I appreciate how they believe in and respect each other immensely, even through the toughest of times. Admittedly, the show's time-travel and heroics were unrealistic for our current times. However, what I found truly beautiful was the way these two characters loved each other. It was a healthy, supportive love that one might find in a strong marriage. They both faced different kinds of emotional and mental trauma, but they were always there for one another, holding each other up during the darkest times until they each found their way back to themselves. Seeing this kind of love portrayed on screen was truly special and rare.

3. James Valdez & Teresa Mendoza

Peter Gadiot and his heart eyes can handle things independently, but when he's with Teresa, it's a tremendous slow burn! SBs are my ultimate weakness. I'm here for the adventure, but even if you remove the thrilling and dangerous cartel aspect for a moment, you still have two relatable characters. I love that this show ensures realistic responses to traumas and surroundings. The incredibly attentive and gentle connection that develops between them is convincing. It grows into something undeniable and irreplaceable. It's a story of two people who suppressed love and let their cool, traumatized shells guide them for far too long. Luckily, they eventually managed to express their emotions and made it. This love is built on mutual trust, loyalty, and intelligence.

4. Olivia & Fitz

OK, who’s going to admit that they at some point loved the idea of forbidden scandalous fruit which must be kept a secret?! The chemistry! The high stakes! The epic drama of it all! These two are so soft and yet on fire at all times. Cons: it's not that realistic, and it’s a very unhealthy coupling.

5. Bonnie & Damon

The laughter! The unexpected pure friendship! Yes, this ship was categorized as platonic, but it wasn’t if you listened to Kat and Ian’s interviews. They explain it well if it’s not apparent enough on screen. If you’ve read the books, you know romance was initially part of their story. I only watched the show but believe these two characters are fun/nier and a healthier match than Delena ever was. Also, Ian Somerhalder wouldn’t have continued in the show without Kat Graham’s Bonnie Bennett! Honestly, none of the characters would live to season 8 without Kat’s character. Bonnie was an ideal character all on her own from the start, even before she knew her true power, but (as unfair and racist as it was/is) Kat Graham only got more screen time because of Bamon. In contrast, Damon’s character arc to becoming his best self was primarily because of her. I digress. I love Ian and Kat. The growth of these two characters over TVD’s eight seasons is tremendous. I just love the history, the quick wit, the “can’t bulshit me” soft magic between them.

6. Elena Gilbert & Damon Salvatore (Delena)

Who doesn’t like to indulge in a cliche love triangle when it manages to be this epic?! Drama drama drama, and yet this pair is SO GOOD! I’m a bit biased. Cons: Not realistic and mostly unhealthy

7. Vivienne Surefire & Sunny Sweeney (🍒☀️)

Fic otp! Aerial - Another unexpected slow burn! A story about having to often get things very wrong before getting them right. These characters don’t start romantically brushing elbows until the 27th chapter or so. It’s full of angst, and soft, loved-up, ethereal molten hot feelings, with a picturesque setting throughout! Pros: poetically written - almost every line is a pretty and moving description. Cons: a little too idealistic for reality

Click to each the video of these two jaguars in love! Jaguars are my favorite big cat, and I resonate with their spiritual symbolism. Unfortunately all animals in sanctuaries are endangered species. Luckily, these cats are respected and get all that they need. Jaguars are naturally solitary creatures. Yet look at my favorite Jaguar couple, defying it all, loving, purely to love. Meet Neron & Kiera - a real-life jaguar couple who live at the big cat sanctuary in England. Neron is the melanistic male, and Kiera is the tan female. They had a cub a year ago and may have another later. They are so tender with each other. I love how their personalities are opposites, but they love each other anyway.

Many tv series and books are not realistic but I like that my favorite pairs have some realism and remind me/taught me a few things about healthy, enduring love. Ultimately, I must respect myself and enjoy my life and know myself as much as I respect others to get the most out of life.

1.Why did JP & Co. choose to go the "without even realising it" route with Steroline? I personally loved how they had Stefan slowly move on in s5, early s6 angst and Stefan's obliviousness about both Caroline's feelings for him and his own for her.We haven't really seen the whole falling-in-love & admitting-acknowledging-your-feelings being explored on TV before.SC was kinda unique,right?It felt organic & realistic.But at the same time I noticed how the show had always been a bit late with revealing Stefan's point of view.They deleted two of Stefan's scene in 6×08 & in 6×12 which made it obvious that SC wasn't one-sided.It can't be a coincidence.Were they pandering to their bigger fandoms or did it serve any narrative purpose other than the slowest of slow burn pattern they had been following since s4? It was enjoyable to be honest but the whole "will-they-won't-they" does get tedious after a point like it did in * cough * S7 * cough *. 2. Do you have any meta on Katherine-Elena?I always felt like they were the same at the core.It's just that Elena tried really hard to not be like Katherine in the beginning precisely because it was drilled into her that she was the "Good" one.Your thoughts?

Question 1:

I think that there are a couple of reasons why the writers went with a slow burn with Stefan & Caroline.

Reason 1: “Caroline, you and me, it’s not gonna happen. Sorry.”

From the start, the writers established that Stefan was not romantically interested in Caroline because was besotted with Elena. In fact, Stefan was so deeply in love with Elena that he was blinded to other romantic options. For years. And specifically, it blinded him to Caroline. One could argue that this is a central tension in their relationship.

Reason 2: They wanted to differentiate Steroline from the other ships on the show, particularly Delena.

Stories become boring if writers give the characters the same character arcs (or relationship arcs). With Steroline, the writers decided to grow the slow burn best-friends-to-lovers trope because it really hadn’t been done before on this show.

Reason 3: Stefan’s had to undergo some character development before getting together with Caroline.

I’ve written about this before so I won’t retype it here. Instead, I’ll just link to my previous meta on the subject:

Reason 4: Romance narratives require a really solid reason to keep the characters apart in order to be believable.

Stefan and Caroline had to have a really good reason for not getting together earlier In the early years it was other romantic interests keeping them apart (Elena, Tyler, etc.). By season 6, those love interests weren’t in the picture anymore so the writers had to come up with another reason – Stefan fell in love with Caroline without realizing that he had fallen in love with her.

Also, I don’t think that the writers seriously considered putting Stefan & Caroline together until season 4, which meant the narrative had a lot of work to get Stefan & Caroline over Elena & Tyler & fall for each other. That takes time. Other shows that do the slow-burn-friends-to-lovers story also take their sweet time (e.g., Josh & Donna on The West Wing, Mulder & Scully on The X-Files, Luke & Lorelai on Gilmore Girls, Monica & Chandler on Friends).

Question 2:

I don’t think I’ve ever written a meta about Elena & Katherine before. I do agree with you that Elena is more like Katherine than she likes to admit. They’re both selfish and self-centered. They both lack empathy and are narcissistic. I always thought that the key difference was that Elena lacks self-awareness. However, I think you’re onto something about Elena’s self-conception. As you stated, Elena believed that she was “good.” That’s normal. Pretty much everyone does because it’s a defense mechanism. When people’s behavior doesn’t match their values, they suffer from cognitive dissonance. I think that’s probably what was going on with Elena, and she projected her (self) contempt onto Katherine.
