Helene Schjerfbeck — Girl with Blonde Hair (1916)
Girl with Blonde Hair depicts the gentle, flowing "mature style" of Schjerfbeck's later works. Schjerfbeck, a Finnish painter who lived and painted all throughout Europe in her lifetime, varied her style dramatically through the years. She is also known for her French plein-air styled works.
Note: I had to compress this terribly to fit on Tumblr. A super high res image can be found on the Staedelmuseum digital collection. The Staedel also owns the physical painting, which is on view on the first floor of their modern art collection. 🖼

That's absolutely true, yes sir, that is quite correct. I am a retired lighthouse keeper. Which one was I on? Why that one there on the horizon, where else? Why would I have a house built for myself in this exact spot here, if it wasn't so I could look out of my window and see her every morning, and her light every evening, and be satisfied however hard the wind blows and the sea rages she's still there?
from "Lighthouse" by Tony Parker, a historical account of English lighthouse keepers in the 1970's.

(cont.) "There's a stereotype of Asian men being feminine, being subdued, and quiet. They're seen as effeminate, you know - soft features, never in positions of authority, or of power. The irony is that here are Asian drag queens who are embracing and diving deep into a stereotypical feminine presentation, yet gaining so much power and strength and being on top. You put a little dash of makeup, a little dab of makeup, all of a sudden it's like: Wait, what just happened there? I never set out to inspire other people or try to be a role model. I feel kind of weird saying it - but only say that because other people have said so. I have met young people who have warmed my heart when they come up to me and say, 'When I watched you perform, when I saw you in drag, I came out.' Whoa! That's deep! They found a performance that I was probably nervous about, not realizing that it could inspire someone."
— Aleksa Manila, genderqueer drag icon and activist, from the Wing Luke Museum's "Where Beauty Lies" exhibit.
