Tumblr media
You turned around with a discontent groan, wriggling around between your bed sheets. Something was amiss but your drowsy mind couldn’t place a finger on it just yet. A soft groan bubbled up from your throat and you turned again, shivering from the cool air inside the room.
At that moment you shot up, sitting straight on the mattress and patting around the soft surface until you could confirm you were alone on your bed. Your ears swivelled around, hoping to hear Taehyung somewhere within the apartment but except for Yeontan’s light snoring in the living room it stayed quiet.
You frowned and wrecked your mind, hoping for a memory where Taehyung told you he wouldn’t be at home today, but you came up empty.
It’s been several months since the concert and in all that time Taehyung nearly had gone to square one refusing to leave your side. It took a lot of convincing that he actually left for work again or didn’t lounge at Yoongi’s studio while you worked. He only ever left after you would reciprocate his ‘I love you’, before going.
So not having Taehyung around, felt off. You got out of your bed and changed into something comfortable, silently walking over to the shared apartment afterwards.
Even before you opened the door you already heard several members inside. “Morning”, you called into the apartment, wanting to announce yourself before they even saw you. Ever since you walked in on them planning a surprise party for you and basically ruining the surprise because you heard everything they said, you started calling out as soon as you came around.
“Y/N! It’s good to see you”, Jin greeted you with a stifled laugh. “Do you want something to eat?”
“I actually wanted to ask if any of you have heard from Tae”, you admitted and sat down on one couch after making sure nobody sat there already. “He isn’t home.”
Your ears immediately picked up nervous shuffling and accelerated heartbeats.
“No idea where he is, have you checked whether he left a voice message? Maybe he was idiotic enough and left a written note for you.” Yoongi answered after clearing his throat. He immediately continued to muse about the possibilities Taehyung could have used to notify you about his absence.
“Yoongi”, you said softly, laughing quietly when he finally stopped talking. “You’re a terrible liar.”
“How would you know I’m lying?”
This time you laughed a little louder and shook your head. “Firstly I hear all your heartbeats. Dead give away, but”, you paused and turned towards Yoongi, “your heartbeat seems fine. The only thing giving you away is the fact you’re talking.”
Yoongi scoffed and sat up, leaning forward as he eyed you in suspicion. “What about my talking?”
“You start talking a lot when you want to cover something up. I realised it when we all played the liar game together a few weeks ago.”
Jimin and Hoseok, who had stayed quiet so far, started laughing almost maniacally, clapping loudly and from the sound of it even falling over. They gasped for air when Jungkook entered the room, barely reducing themselves to giggles.
“Taehyung is out to check the last preparations for something special”, Jungkook told you, sitting down next to you. Though instead of relaxing into the cushions like he used to, he sat somewhat tense beside you.
“Thanks for telling me”, you told him with a grateful smile. You didn’t comment on his awkward position, knowing full well Jungkook tried his very best to be normal around you.
The day after the concert you had talked with him, wanting to make sure he knew you wouldn’t blame him for what happened. The very same day Jungkook had confessed to you. For a split second you had been stunned and incredibly surprised by the confession until you remembered Taehyung’s words the night prior, the pieces now coming together.
“You don’t love me back”, Jungkook had whispered, laughing softly as he tried to hide his pain. You apologised, unsure how else to react, but Jungkook brushed it off, asking whether the both of you could still be friends.
“I’d like that.” You had said back then and you appreciated his effort ever since.
“Were you even allowed to tell her that?” Jimin chided, now that he finally caught his breath. “We were supposed to let her think she’s going to her usual therapy appointment.”
You heard a loud slap followed by a muffled curse and apology. You stifled a laugh, knowing full well Jimin reprimanded himself just now for saying too much. Almost immediately Jin and Hoseok started scolding Jimin, nearly whining about him ruining the surprise.
Jungkook chuckled lowly and finally relaxed next to you, sinking further into the cushion of the couch. “It’s better you stop listening to them before they reveal even more”, he whispered to you.
The scolding stopped when Yoongi’s phone started ringing. All the attention snapped to him. “Yeah?” He hummed a few times and started motioning towards the others.
Your ears picked up Namjoon’s distressed voice and even a faint call from Taehyung. It took everything within your willpower not to listen to the conversation. Instead you mumbled about getting some breakfast.
Jin and Jimin immediately came with you, keeping you company while the others followed Yoongi. Once they left the apartment you didn’t hear of them for the rest of the day.
The day went by at a slow pace even though Jin and Jimin tried everything to distract you as much as possible. At one point in the late afternoon you decided to simply listen to some music while cuddling with Yeontan, dozing off on the sofa after a while.
Therefore you were startled awake when Jimin burst into the apartment, calling for you in a sing-song voice. “Darling, you need to get dressed!”
“I am dressed”, you mumbled and wiggled yourself further into the blankets.
Jimin sighed deeply and you just knew he looked at you in disappointment. Another sigh left his lips when you refused to move at all, close to dozing off again. “Taehyung is waiting for you and you can’t meet him like that!”
You sat up, wriggling yourself out of the blankets and turning towards Jimin. “Tae is waiting? Where?”
Jimin held your hand and helped you from the couch, chuckling softly at your eager demeanour. “You’ll know once you get there but right now the two of us are going to do something about your style.”
The impatience was almost unbearable. You basically bounced on the stool while Jimin tried doing your hair, scolding you every now and then for moving too much.
“You guys ready?” Jungkook appeared at the door, leaning against the frame while Jimin scolded you yet again from moving.
“Depends”, Jimin grumbled and stepped away from you, circling your form for a moment. “Y/N please stand up.” He brushed over the fabric of your dress and stepped back yet again. “Are you feeling comfortable like this?”
Your fingers trailed over the fabric as well and you gently swayed with your hips, feeling how the dress followed your movements. “I feel special”, you admitted, ears trained on the two men to pick up their reactions.
“You are special”, Jungkook answered, ignoring the pointed look he got from Jimin. “I’m your driver, if that’s okay with you. I’m actually here to get you to Taehyung.”
“I’m going to meet Tae now?” A bright smile spread over your lips and you quickly nodded your head, ignoring Jimin’s whining about your hair getting all loose again.
The ride to Taehyung went by in a blur. You barely picked up anything from your surroundings. It even took you a few steps to realise Namjoon had greeted you at the destination after you got out of Jungkook’s car.
Namjoon had offered you his arm, which you accepted thankfully. He led you along some paths. The scents filling the air around you, reminded you of the gardens you had visited with Taehyung. The first date if you wanted to call it like that. It felt like a lifetime ago that happened.
“I’ll take it from here”, the deep timbre of Taehyung broke the silence. He gently grabbed your hand and pulled you into a hug. “You look stunning, little one.”
Your hands wandered along his chest and up to his face, cupping his cheeks. You let your fingertips brush over some features of his face, memorising his expression. “I’m sure you look even better.”
Taehyung kissed the inside of your wrist. “I’m looking like I fell straight out of bed compared to you. Jimin really outdid himself with your style. Guess I have to thank him tomorrow.”
You giggled softly. “He scolded me a lot for not staying still.”
“How come you didn’t?” Taehyung asked, a lilt of amusement in his voice. He continued leading you along the paths, nodding one last time to his hyungs and Jungkook before he moved his attention solely on you.
“I was excited to be with you again.”
Taehyung chuckled lowly. “Did you miss me that much during the day, little one?” Another chuckle left his lips when he saw you nod and pout. “I’m sorry about that but I had to prepare this for you.”
“For me?”
Taehyung simply hummed and led you up a few steps on some sort of wooden platform. Soft music started playing from above and your ears turned around, trying to locate the speakers.
“I want you to focus on your surroundings, little one. Can you do that for me?”
You nodded and took a deep breath in. Once again the scents of dozens of flowers filled your nose, though you also smelled Taehyung’s cologne as well as his natural scent, which you loved so much. You heard birds chirp in the distance despite the soft melody in the air around. You also felt Taehyung’s warm hands holding yours and his heart beating like crazy within his body.
“You’re nervous”, you mumbled and tilted your head, indicating you wanted to know why.
“I had hoped you’d miss that part”, Taehyung laughed softly. “Maybe a little dance might calm my nerves. Would you give me the honour?”
“I don’t know how to dance”, you told him and if it weren’t for him holding your hands you would have been fidgeting with your fingers.
“You don’t need to know”, Taehyung murmured into your ear, “just follow my lead.” He placed your left hand on his shoulder and held your right in his own hand, placing his free hand on your hip and pulled you closer to him.
At first Taehyung mumbled where you had to step while he guided you with his body, following the soft rhythm of the music. “You’re a fast learner”, he told you and kissed your forehead, swaying with you along the wooden platform.
“You’re a good leader”, you answered him and leaned your head against his collarbone. “Did it help to calm your nervousness though?”
Taehyung squeezed you momentarily. “Not really but that’s alright, little one. I just want this moment to be perfect.”
“You’re with me”, you said softly, “I think it’s perfect like this.” You felt Taehyung laugh silently and straightened again, waiting for him to speak.
“The last time I said this to you I didn’t have planned to actually do it. We actually haven’t even spoken about it ever since. I don’t even know whether you remember the moment in the bathtub all these months ago.”
“I do.”
Taehyung hummed, acknowledging your whispered answer. “Then I don’t know whether anything has changed for you in all this time. I mean, a lot has changed and you’re becoming more and more independent. But I wanted to tell you again and this time I wanted to do it right.”
You felt the butterflies in your stomach coming alive again, swirling around and leaving you with a tingling that spread through your whole nervous system.
“I fell in love with you, little one”, Taehyung said, his tone stable and certain of what he just said. “If you feel the same and if you’re comfortable with it I’d like to be yours.”
“Mine? As in my love?”
“Your love, your boyfriend, your one and only, your darling or sweetheart. Whatever term you like the most. Let me be that for you.”
You moved your hand from his shoulder to the back of his neck. “Ever since you spoke to me in that shelter you were the one and only for me. I love you too, Tae.”
Taehyung wrapped his arms around your middle and pulled you against his body, still swaying from side to side along with the music.
When you placed your now free hand on his cheek, you felt the bright boxy grin underneath your fingertips, making you smile just as wide.
Taehyung leaned down and kissed you. At first his lips barely ghosted over your own but once you pushed against him, he deepened the kiss. You two only broke the connection to inhale some much needed air, panting breathlessly as your foreheads still touched each other.
“Thank you for accepting me.”

Jungkook stammered some broken apologies, too shaken to do anything else. He glanced towards the others, silently begging for forgiveness but his heart broke even more when Hoseok looked away, Jimin shook his head and Yoongi just sighed.
This wasn’t what he had in mind when he asked you to this concert. “I didn’t mean to, I’m sorry, this was..”
“A mistake.” Taehyung cut in. He looked one more time at Jungkook before he turned around with you, guiding you towards his car.
Hoseok followed them immediately with a soft apology towards Jungkook, who watched them leave with tears running down his face.
“And that’s why I’m here”, Yoongi muttered towards Jimin. “Take them home safely, I’ll take it from here.” Yoongi waited for Jimin to leave before he walked over to Jungkook and patted his back.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know. All of us know you didn’t mean for this to happen. But I agree with Taehyung that taking Y/N to a concert like this was a mistake. You had good intentions, yes, but you didn’t think this through.” Yoongi placed his hand on the younger man’s shoulder and guided him to the parking lot.
From afar both of them looked over to Taehyung’s car, seeing how he sat you down and pulled his hoodie carefully over your head and ears.
“What happened?” Jungkook asked again, his voice cracking from the pain he felt in his heart.
“Beats me. Taehyung was too angry to explain anything, really. And Y/N didn’t say anything at all when we arrived. Unless she talks about it we can only guess what happened.” Yoongi stopped in front of Jungkook’s car and held his hand out, waiting for the younger man to hand over the car keys.
Once Yoongi had the keys and ordered Jungkook to sit in the passenger seat, he rounded the car and got behind the wheel. At first only the low rumbling of the engine filled the inside of the car, occasionally interrupted by a sniffle from Jungkook.
“It was only a second”, the young man sighed and leaned against the seat, his whole body suddenly feeling way too heavy, “only a second where I didn’t hold her hand. We got pushed and, and..” Another sigh left his lips and he rubbed with the back of his hand over his teary eyes. “I searched for her. I panicked when she wasn’t next to me anymore.”
Yoongi hummed, understanding what Jungkook tried to tell him.
“What if she hates me now?” Jungkook turned to look at Yoongi, his eyes red rimmed and glossy. “What if Taehyung hates me now? What if he doesn’t allow me to spend time with her anymore?”
“Those are a lot of what ifs.” Yoongi said and glanced at the broken mess beside him. “Give them time. Y/N was visibly shaken by whatever happened and she’ll definitely need time to deal with that. Though I don’t think she’ll say you were at fault.”
“What about Taehyung?”
Yoongi inhaled sharply. “That’s a different story. Taehyung entrusted Y/N’s safety to you. He has a valid reason to be angry at you but I’m sure he won’t hate you because of that. And even if Taehyung did, he can’t force Y/N to not see you anymore if she wants to see you.”
“I don’t think she wants to see me anymore.”
“Don’t say that. Both of you are very good friends and she clearly likes to be around you. She might be hesitant to go out with you again but at home - she’s familiar with the environment.” Yoongi patted Jungkook’s shoulder again. “Give them some time for now and then try to apologise again.”
Jungkook nodded silently, feeling the tears threatening to spill once again. “I will.”
Taehyung followed Jungkook’s car with his eyes narrowed to a glare until it left the parking lot. Only then did he scoot over your form and sat beside you, pulling you back into his arms.
Jimin sat behind the steering wheel and Hoseok took the passenger seat, turning around on it to look over you. He couldn’t see any visible wounds, taking a deep breath in relief.
“Are you hurt somewhere, little one?” Taehyung asked in a low tone, feeling just as relieved as Hoseok when you shook your head.
You had stopped crying, only sniffling every now and then into Taehyung’s chest. But you refused to let go of him and immediately hid your face in his chest as soon as Taehyung stood or sat close to you again. Even when one of them tried talking with you, they only got silence in return.
Once Taehyung got you back to the apartment, his initial drive vaporised. Now that he got you in his arms and knew you were back safe at the apartment, he faltered - unsure what to do next.
Hoseok and Jimin had both bid their goodbyes in the hallway, giving you and Taehyung a little privacy. He now wished they hadn’t left just yet. At least Hoseok. Taehyung was sure the doctor would know better what to do now. Maybe even Jimin, who somehow always read the room perfectly and just knew what he had to do out of instinct.
Taehyung looked down on your form when you suddenly shivered in his arms. Despite wearing his large hoodie you still had wet clothes underneath. “You should take a shower”, Taehyung mumbled and guided you towards your bathroom. “You must let go of me to do so.”
You simply shook your head again. There was absolutely no way you would let go of him now. Taehyung felt like the one safe thing in your life and you just couldn’t let go of that pillar.
“Little one, I’m right outside the bathroom door. I promise.”
You still shook your head, ignoring the increasing smell of desperation from Taehyung. “Don’t let go of me, please,” you whispered so lowly, Taehyung probably didn’t even catch your words.
“Alright.” Taehyung walked with you to his room, grabbing some of his clothes and leading you then towards his attached bathroom. He kept one arm always around your form to guide you around, while he prepared the bathtub and started the water, checking the temperature.
Soon enough you heard him hitting the lightswitch, his movements now slower and more carefully. You heard how he patted around the bathtub until he found the water level.
“I turned off the lights”, Taehyung informed you as you two waited for the bathtub to fill up. “You can take off the clothes and get into the water while I sit next to the bathtub.”
“Can you come inside it?” You asked, hesitating shortly before you continued: “With me?” All your instincts wanted to stay close to him - as close as possible and you definitely hoped he wouldn’t mind sharing a bath with you.
“If that’s what you want, of course.” Taehyung kissed the crown of your head and gently squeezed you against his body. He’d do anything for you as long as he knew it would make you happy.
After Taehyung stopped the water, you reluctantly let go of him to take your clothes off, letting them drop right where you stood. He then helped you into the bathtub, only letting go of your hand to get inside himself. He had taken off most of his clothes as well, leaving him in boxer shorts.
Once Taehyung sat inside the water, you quickly scooted over and leaned into his chest, nuzzling into him while he wrapped his arms around you.
“I’m very proud of you”, Taehyung whispered into the dark, holding you tightly and rubbing over your bare skin.
“Why?”
“You remembered how to use the phone I gave you perfectly. It was probably too loud for you to hear my voice when you called and too loud to hear the ringing when I tried calling you back. You did good in getting away from the stage.”
Small tears escaped your eyes as you listened to Taehyung’s deep voice. “There were people not happy with me being there”, you sniffled and rubbed over your face.
Taehyung sighed deeply, knowing something like that would have happened sooner or later. “Sadly not everyone is so open minded about the existence of hybrids. And even if they are, there are still people that think hybrids shouldn’t be left unattended. They probably thought you were on your own because you and Jungkook got separated.”
“It’s scary to be alone out there.”
“The world is a scary place”, Taehyung agreed and patted your head softly, “but it shouldn’t be a reason for us to stay cooped up inside the apartment.”
“Why not?” You whined and hid your face in his chest, wrapping your arms around his waist and pressing yourself against his body.
Taehyung chuckled softly, ignoring how he felt your form so clearly against his skin. “We would miss so many opportunities to be amazed by the world. Remember when we drove to the forest and spent a day outside surrounded by nature? Or the street musician at the plaza we visited? Remember the smell of the river near the park you had visited with Namjoon.” He took a deep breath, contemplating his next words. “There will be more instances with people that aren’t kind. There will be more moments that might be quite scary, but you’ll never have to endure them alone. Like today there are at least seven men, rushing to your aid the second you ask for help.”
“Seven?” You piped up, surprised to hear that number. “So you’re not mad at Jungkook anymore?” Even though you had been crying the whole time,  you had still picked up the anger from Taehyung towards the younger man as well as the cold tone in his voice back then.
Taehyung scoffed but stayed otherwise silent.
“He smelled devastated before we left.”
“Good”, Taehyung grumbled and tightened his hold around you. “I should have punched him or something for leaving you alone.”
“It wasn’t his fault though.” You pressed your hand against his bare chest and pushed yourself slightly away, trying to get a better read of Taehyung’s emotions and reactions.
“I know”, Taehyung murmured, more to himself but your sensitive ears picked up the confession. “It’s just”, he sighed and ran a hand through his hair before he let it drop into the water again, “I was angry with myself as well.”
“Why?” You tilted your head in curiosity, not understanding why Taehyung would have been angry at himself for something out of his control.
“I didn’t want you to go”, Taehyung admitted in a low tone, feeling a burst of embarrassment shooting through his body, “I got angry because I did let you go and then something bad happened.”
“Why haven’t you told me? I asked you if something was wrong!” You shook your head, frowning upon the revelation.
Taehyung sighed again, leaning back against the slightly cold edge of the bathtub. “I didn’t want to let my jealousy get in the way.”
“Jealousy? If you wanted to go to the concert with Jungkook, you should have said so!” You frowned even more upon hearing Taehyung burst into laughter, the water splashing violently from the force behind it.
“That wasn’t the reason for my jealousy.”
You pouted slightly and sat up straight, facing towards Taehyung and somewhat straddling him. “It was not?”
Taehyung gulped audibly, his breath even hitched when both your hands met his bare chest - probably feeling his rapid heartbeat. He threw his head back, hitting it against the edge of the bathtub but the dull throb was nothing against the nervousness running through his system. It got even worse when you leaned forward and questioned whether he got hurt or not.
“Please”, he whispered and grabbed your wrists, pulling you down into a straight position again.
You listened to him intently, feeling confused by his nervousness. Though a part of your mind wriggled around in excitement, sending butterflies to your stomach, sparks to your skin where he touched you and a lump to your throat. Part of you expected something major but you didn’t dare to hope.
“I never intended for this to happen”, Taehyung whispered, “and I’m truly sorry if this - if I - make you uncomfortable.”
You shook your head and leaned forward again. The water splashed violently around you as Taehyung quickly placed his hands on your hips and pressed you back down again, begging you to stay still until he finished talking.
He sighed deeply and closed his eyes, taking everything he felt in for just a moment. Taehyung rubbed small circles into your skin, trying to calm himself down with the motion but knowing in what situation he was just amplified his nervousness.
“It’s okay”, you told him quietly, “you will never make me uncomfortable.”
A small and somewhat relieved smile spread over his lips. He chuckled softly and thanked you for the encouragement. “It’s hard for me to watch you go with the hyungs but I can endure it because all I sense is friendship between you. With Jungkook it’s different.”
You tilted your head to the side, wondering how it was different with Jungkook when he was just as nice to you as the others.
“It’s not my place to tell you how he feels, but when you two went to that concert I got jealous because I wanted to be the one taking you out to a concert. I still like to do that, if you allow me.” Taehyung raised one of his hands, letting it glide over your arm until he reached your face to cup your cheek.
You nuzzled into his touch. Droplets ran down your cheek and fell into the water below. It tickled, feeling the wetness on your otherwise dry skin. You thought about his words, before you agreed. “I trust you.”
“That means a lot to me. And I feel incredibly relieved you’re willing to go on another date with me.” Taehyung laughed softly only to exhale deeply right afterwards. “I like you, Y/N.”
“I like you too!”
Taehyung chuckled again, shaking his head. “I meant I like you as in I fell in love with you over the months we spent together.”
You stilled, ears in full attention and heart racing like a wild animal within your chest. You wanted to scream in joy, wanted to squeal and roll all over your bed while the butterflies in your stomach increased and made everything tingly.
“I’m sorry I dropped such a bomb on you”, Taehyung apologized, dropping his hand back down to your hip. “You had such a stressful event and I’m here loading even more on top of it.” He sighed and ran a hand through his hair before he rubbed over the bridge of his nose. “I don’t expect an answer from you, so please don’t feel pressured in any way. If it does in fact make you feel uncomfortable just say so and I’ll leave immediately.”
“No!” You leaped forward and wrapped your arms around his neck, pressing yourself as closely against his body as possible. “Never leave.”
“I didn’t mean like leave at all. Just to give you more space or something like that.” Taehyung hugged you and softly ran his large hand over your bare back.
“Never leave”, you repeated and nuzzled your face into the crook of his neck. You ignored your uncomfortable position, wanting to make sure your point came across even though you didn’t say much.
“I won’t”, Taehyung promised and pressed a kiss to the crown of your head, scrunching his nose right afterwards. “How about we cuddle some more later and focus on cleaning you up now? Your hair and ears reek of beer.”
A prominent pout formed on your lips but you agreed nonetheless, sitting back up and following Taehyung’s instructions to turn around.
Taehyung grabbed a bowl from the edge of the tub and filled it with water, carefully navigating it over your head and letting the liquid spill over your hair. He repeated the motion several times until he was sure your hair was completely wet. Taehyung then grabbed a bottle of shampoo, his motion memory helping him to find it easily, and started massaging the shampoo into your scalp.
A low moan escaped your lips from Taehyung’s soft touches and you basically melted into his hands.
Only after the water got cold the both of you stepped out of the bathtub and wrapped yourself in towels. As soon as you were dry and wearing Taehyung’s clothes, he guided you out of the bathroom and into his room, mumbling something about needing a second pair of boxers as he didn’t plan to bathe as well.
Soon enough both of you snuggled close to each other on his bed, limbs in a tangled mess and heads close together.
“When we visit a concert”, you mumbled, picking up the conversation from before, “will it be like this one?”
Taehyung hummed lowly. “Depends.” He moved his fingers through your hair, gently combing them. “There are a lot of different types. We could go to a concert like this one but with much better precautions or we visit a seated concert. You’ll definitely not get pushed around there.”
You frowned in thought. The incidents at the concert still haunted you and you weren’t sure if you ever wanted to visit one again, despite your love for music. You gnawed at your lower lip as another thought made itself present. What if you had to attend a concert with Yoongi one day because you produced music after all?
“We don’t have to go immediately. Or even this year. We can go when you feel ready for it. I just want to make sure you won’t be afraid of something that is not as bad as the experience you had to live through today.” Taehyung told you calmly. “You know, a friend of mine once had a car accident when he was still living with his parents. Nothing happened to him but the car was a wreck. He was so scared after the accident and refused to drive ever again. Though his father told him to drive again, even asked him to drive him around. Just so he wouldn’t develop a fear so prominent he wouldn’t be able to drive ever again.”
You listened carefully, letting the words sink into you. “Did it work? Is your friend driving again?”
Taehyung chuckled softly. “It worked quite well. He’s like the most reckless driver I know. Okay, maybe not reckless, but Jungkook definitely got more speeding tickets than any of us.”
You gasped audibly and sat up. You opened your mouth but closed it again quickly, not knowing what you even wanted to say.
“Don’t worry”, Taehyung whispered and gently pulled you back into his embrace. “Even after something bad happened, he always bounces back. So we can let him suffer for a little longer before we accept his apology.”
“Tomorrow morning”, you insisted, still feeling bad at how devastated Jungkook felt. “I don’t want him to be scared of being my friend.”
Taehyung whined, begging you to ignore Jungkook for at least three days but he quickly gave up once he noticed how determined you were. “Fine, okay, fine. Tomorrow morning, we’ll put him out of his misery. You’re too kind, you know that?”
You simply shrugged with your shoulders, smiling to yourself as you slowly dozed off with Taehyung’s soft ministrations.
“I love you, little one”, he whispered and kissed the top of your head, getting comfortable and ready to sleep himself.
“I love you too.”

“Okay?” You changed your relaxed stance to a more attentive one. Jungkook usually didn’t behave like this in front of you. “What is the question?”
Jungkook took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. “I have tickets for an open-air-concert and since you like music I thought you might want to join me.” Jungkook took another deep breath after speeding through his speech. “So, uh, would you join me?”
Your heart dropped again, feeling how the worry dissipated again. “Of course! Thanks for inviting me.” You smiled and reached out for Jungkook’s arm, squeezing it gently. “You had me worried there.”
“I’m sorry.” He laughed awkwardly and scratched his cheek. “I’ll pick you up for the concert, okay? It’s this friday.”
You nodded, trying to remember what day it was in the first place. “You know where to find me.”
“Yeah”, Jungkook chuckled, “I do. Then have a good night! See you around.”
You heard Jungkook walk away and smack against the closed door opposite to you. Before you could ask if he got hurt he laughed awkwardly and rushed into the apartment, leaving the scent of embarrassment behind. You chuckled silently and got back into your apartment as well.
“I thought you’d wait at the couch for me.” Taehyung came into the hallway with a teasing aura surrounding him. “It’s not time for you to hibernate and yet you’re so slow.”
“I don’t hibernate”, you mumbled and wrapped your arms around Taehyung’s middle, yawning loudly before you leaned your head against his shoulder. You felt the vibrations of his laugh underneath your cheek and smiled softly. “It’s just that Jungkook knocked at the door.”
“Huh. I hope you told him I won’t play any games with him today.” Taehyung pulled you along with him to the couch and dropped down on the cushions before he wrapped himself around you as well.
“He didn’t ask for you to play with him.”
“He didn’t?”
You shook your head tiredly, suddenly feeling how much time had passed since this morning. “No,” you yawned again, “he asked me to join him for a concert on friday. I told him I’d go with him.”
Taehyung tensed up once he heard your answer, alarming you instantly.
“Did you have anything planned for that day? Should I call Jungkook and tell him I can’t go?” You listened intently to any change from Taehyung, whether it was his increasing heartbeat, his low breaths or harsh swallowing.
“No, I haven’t planned anything for that day.”
“Are you sure?” You sat up slightly, pressing your palm against his chest right over his heart. “I can tell him to ask someone else.”
Taehyung pulled you back against his body and cuddled you tightly. “It’s not that”, he promised you in a low tone. “I was just surprised.”
You knew there was something else he didn’t say but you let it slide, being lulled into sleep with his deepening wooden scent. You rubbed your cheek against his shoulder and tightened your hold on his body. “Thank you for today”, you whispered, “I loved it.”
Taehyung kissed the top of your head. “Good, I hope to have more of those with you.”
You smiled gently and snuggled even closer against Taehyung. “Yes please.”

Over the next few days Taehyung seemed to be even more clingy than usual, cuddling you with every chance he got. Even on the day you were supposed to go out with Jungkook, Taehyung tried everything to keep you in bed or at least in his arms.
“A concert doesn’t start until later in the day”, he whined when you got up, “why can’t you stay in bed?”
You laughed and shook your head. “Because we stayed in bed longer than usual and my body started to hurt from just lying down. Also I’m hungry.”
Taehyung grumbled something underneath his breath but got up anyway. He followed you to the kitchen, getting everything you asked him for while you prepared two bowls of breakfast.
Throughout the whole day Taehyung stayed at your side or waited on the other side of the door when you were showering and changing clothes. You could feel how skittish he was, but every time you mentioned it Taehyung denied it.
“Jungkook’s in front of the apartment”, you said as you heard the young man pacing in the hallway, “I’ll get going then.” You turned to Taehyung, reluctant to just go like that. You knew something was off but you couldn’t put a finger on it.
“Uhm.”
Your ears piped up immediately. “Yes?” You unconsciously stepped towards Taehyung, holding your hands out to him.
Taehyung closed the distance and pulled you into a hug. “Before you go. I got something for you.” With that he separated himself from you again and placed something into your hand. “This is an old mobile phone. It still has buttons to make it easier for you. Here, this is the power button. You press it to turn it on and this is the button for the number one. If you press that number for three seconds it directly connects with my phone. Number two is for Hoseok hyung’s phone in case you need a doctor. The other’s are also saved in that phone but we can deal with that some other time.”
You listened carefully to Taehyung’s instructions, repeating the movements inside your mind over and over again until you were sure you wouldn’t forget them.
“Use it whenever you need it and I’m or the others are not right with you.”
You hugged Taehyung with a bright smile. “Thank you. I’ll make sure to keep it with me!”
Taehyung hugged you as well, holding you tightly against his larger form. “Be careful out there.”
You placed a kiss on his cheek. “I will.” With that you wriggled yourself out of his hug and opened the apartment door, revealing a nervous Jungkook about to knock.
“Oh! You’re ready.” He glanced at Taehyung, who stood behind you with a stern expression. Jungkook nodded shortly, feeling somewhat small in front of his best friend. “See ya, hyung.” He quickly grabbed your hand and pulled you towards the elevators, trying to escape Taehyung’s dark gaze.
“So what is an open-air concert like?” You asked curiously. You felt how nervous Jungkook was and hoped to ease his tension with a simple question.
“It’s awesome. There are different types though. It could be just one band playing the whole time or several bands playing only a few songs before the next group comes up.” Jungkook immediately relaxed as he explained everything he knew to you. “There are a lot of people who really enjoy music and they gather in front of the stage. Some of them sing along, others even dance. It can get pretty crowded in the front but that’s normal.”
You listened silently to Jungkook’s words. You could easily hear how excited he was and how much he loved going to concerts. If it weren’t for your own worries about the mentioned crowd, you’d be just as excited as him. Even though you got better in dealing with a lot of people around you, you still had your limits.
“We got here early”, Jungkook announced and guided you over a field. “That’s good. We can definitely get a good spot then.” He stopped shortly when a rough voice asked for Jungkook to show him the tickets.
“Does your hybrid have some sort of identification on them?”
Jungkook tensed and turned around to you. “Uh.”
“I do”, you said quietly and held up your wrist with the bracelet Jimin gifted you.
Jungkook relaxed again and pulled you along after the guard nodded his okay. “Damn, I really got scared there for a second.” Jungkook exhaled loudly with a laugh. “Good thing you’re better at thinking everything through than I am.”
You shook your head. “I’m not. I just never take this bracelet off. It’s a sense of security I have. This little piece of metal tells others that I belong somewhere.” Your voice got smaller and smaller with each word you said, feeling the pain in your chest from the realisation that a piece of metal would be more acknowledged than your words.
“It’s like an ID card then”, Jungkook hummed and stopped walking. “I still get asked to show my ID when I want to buy alcohol or rent horror movies. Anyway we got a pretty good spot. We’re relatively close to the stage. So the music should still be loud enough and the crowd shouldn’t be talking about anything else as if they were in a bar or something.” He turned to you, seeing how you unconsciously stood close to him and held on to the hem of his shirt. Feeling somewhat bold, Jungkook grabbed your hand and intertwined his fingers with yours. “Nervous?”
“Yeah.”
“I was nervous too when I went to my first concert.” Jungkook told you about the concerts he went to, trying to lessen your nervousness with his hilarious encounters.
At first it really helped you simply listening to his stories but the more people arrived at the concert and the more voices you heard the more anxious you got. You tried to solely focus on Jungkook’s voice but with all these external impressions you had no chance at calming down again. Dozens of scents invaded your nose, varying from sweat, greasy food to alcohol. People were hollering, screaming, laughing and talking all around you. You felt the presence of them around you, felt the heat emitting from their bodies.
You bit on the inside of your cheek, scolding you silently to calm down. You had done it so often with Taehyung - at the mall, at the supermarket and even at the main street during one of his work trips. You swallowed harshly. Even though you didn’t like this experience for now, you wanted to try liking it. For Jungkook.
“It’s about to start!” Jungkook yelled excitedly and squeezed your hand.
With all the cheers erupting around you, it was hard for you to focus on the sounds the band made as they got ready.
Your ears pinned down against your head when the crowd cheered even louder and the first stroke of the guitar boomed over the field. You winced slightly in pain and decided to keep your ears down, hoping to protect your sensitive hearing as much as possible. When the drums started to play you raised your free hand and pressed it against your ear. You desperately wanted to cover your other ear as well but you refused to let go of Jungkook’s hand.
As soon as the song started the crowd pushed suddenly forward. You held your breath as you felt other people pressed against your body.
Jungkook cheered loudly, oblivious to your struggling. Immersed in the band, the song and the whole experience he simply enjoyed his time.
With another push you lost the hold to Jungkook’s hand. Panic spreaded throughout your whole body. Your skin felt hot and cold at the same time, your heart hammered against your ribcage and your breathing became laboured. “Jungkook?” You tried to focus your senses on his familiar form but with all the other people around you weren’t able to pinpoint him. “Jungkook?” You called for him a little louder, your hands tapping around you in hopes Jungkook would simply take them again. “Jungkook!”
“Don’t fucking touch me, you freak!”
You flinched at the hostile voice next to you, about to apologise when you got pushed around again. Tears welled up in your eyes. Except for the stage in front of you, you had absolutely no idea what the area was like. You got pushed again. The hope to find Jungkook in this crowd completely vanished now. You gasped for air but it felt like you didn’t breathe at all. Everything inside of you screamed for Taehyung to save you.
That’s when you remembered the phone he gave you. With trembling fingers you pulled it out of a pocket, doing exactly what he had told you before you left the apartment. You held the phone to your ears, hoping to hear his voice but over the loud music, the screams and cheers around you as well as the ringing in your ears you weren’t able to hear anything.
You sobbed, not knowing what to do. A yelp escaped your lips when some cold liquid was suddenly spilt over you. “Fucking leave you hybrid scum!”
You stumbled backwards, away from that voice and away from the music. You turned around and stumbled through the crowd, constantly bumping into people who threw more insults your way.
The music got more quiet the further you walked and thankfully you stumbled into less people as well. You stopped walking. Where should you go now? Your body got wrecked by trembles and before you even knew what you were doing, you crouched down and made yourself as small as possible.
You yelped again when someone touched you, feeling lightheaded from the hand on your shoulder.
“You ‘kay?”
Despite your ringing in your ears you heard the soft voice of a woman speaking to you. Her breath smelled like cheap beer but you couldn’t sense any malintent from her. You simply shook your head, new tears bursting out of your eyes.
“Oh no, poor baby.” She patted your shoulder. “You need help?”
You shivered, remembering the cold liquid that had drenched your upper body and ultimately the phone you had held in your hand. Panicked, you held the phone in your open hands. “Does it still work?” You asked with a tremble to your voice. “I need to call the number one.”
The woman in front of you took the phone and inspected it closely. “That’s a brick. Wow, so old”, she commented, “but it works. Shall I call someone?”
You nodded, sniffling slightly. You didn’t trust yourself to work with that phone anymore since you weren’t able to hear anything the first time.
“Oh, gotta lot of missed calls.”
“Y/N?!”
You heard Taehyung’s voice loud and clear even though you weren’t holding the phone. As soon as you registered his worried tone you started to cry even harder. You barely registered the exchange between the woman and Taehyung. All you wanted was to be in Taehyung’s arms now.
When you first called, Taehyung thought it was a simple mistake since he could only hear the screams and loud music at first. He didn’t cut the call though, wondering whether the music and the crowd wasn’t too loud for you. That was when he heard your yelp. Taehyung called your name over and over again but didn’t get any reaction, so he decided reluctantly to cut the call and try it again, hoping the vibrations of the phone would make you aware of his call. He paced around the apartment, nearly stumbling over Yeontan several times, without any luck reaching you.
Taehyung stopped in his tracks. “What if I’m overreacting?” He stared at Yeontan, hoping to get an answer from his dog. “That yelp could have been from excitement as well, right? But what if it wasn’t? Should I drive to the location? Or would that be troublesome for them?” He groaned in desperation and ran his fingers through his hair. “What should I do?”
In that moment his phone rang again and seeing your contact lighting up he accepted the call immediately, yelling into the phone. Taehyung froze when he heard someone else speaking. Still, he listened intently on what the woman was telling him.
“Please bring her to the entrance”, he requested calmly, “I’ll be there as soon as possible. Could you stay with her?”
As soon as the woman confirmed his requests, Taehyung hung up. He stood in the middle of the apartment for a moment longer, staring at nothing in particular. Until he exploded with a loud scream.
Yeontan scurried into your room, away from Taehyung as he raged through the rest of the apartment, cursing and yelling nonstop.
“What happened?” Jimin, Hoseok and Yoongi burst into the apartment, staring at Taehyung with wide eyes.
“Im gonna kill him.”
“Kill who?”
“Don’t tell me you’re jealous because Jungkook took Y/N out on a date”, Jimin said in a disappointed tone.
Taehyung turned around with raging eyes, staring his friends down.
“He might be jealous”, Yoongi spoke up, in the least fazed by Taehyung’s glare, “but I don’t think he would react like this because of jealousy.”
“He fucking abandoned her!” Taehyung stormed into his room and grabbed a large hoodie. “During a concert!” He then grabbed his wallet from the counter. “Some stranger found her crouching in the middle of the field. Drenched and crying.” Taehyung grabbed his keys and turned back to his friends. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t kill him.”
“I’m coming with you”, Hoseok said, “I’ll get my first aid kit.” He ran out of the apartment without a moment of hesitation. Everyone in the hybrid field knew that even free hybrids faced incredible hardships when they were out alone. He treated more than enough hybrids who got attacked because people simply hated their existence.
“You’re in no condition to drive. Give me the keys.” Jimin held a hand out to Taehyung, waiting with a pointed look until his friend dropped the keys in his hands. “I’m pretty sure you need to stay by her side on the way back anyway.”
As soon as Hoseok returned they hurried to Taehyung’s car, getting inside and slamming the doors shut. Jimin didn’t even wait until everyone was secured when he slammed his foot down on the gas pedal and sped through the city.
“And why did you join us?” Jimin looked through the rearview mirror with a teasing grin towards Yoongi. “Hoseok is there as a doctor, I’m the driver and what role do you play?”
Yoongi scoffed and crossed his arms in front of his chest. “Just drive and keep your eyes on the road.”
Taehyung jumped out of the car before Jimin parked it properly, running to the entrance of the concert field. His eyes scanned the area anxiously until they landed on your crouched form. “Y/N!”
Your ears shot up when you heard Taehyung call for you, afraid you were only imagining it. Only after you heard him call your name again did you stand up, facing the direction you had heard his voice from.
The air got knocked out of your lungs when Taehyung slammed into you, wrapping his arms around your body and pressing you against himself with a force you’ve never experienced before.
You immediately wrapped your arms around his middle and started sobbing again. You hid your face in his chest, rubbing your nose gently over his shirt to steady yourself.
Taehyung held you close to himself, ignoring that your drenched clothes started to wet his own clothes. He quickly thanked the woman for her help and turned his attention back to you.
Soon enough Yoongi, Hoseok and Jimin appeared next to him, watching silently and with heartbroken expressions as you cried into Taehyung’s chest.
“Hyung? Y/N?”
Taehyung looked up, seeing a breathless Jungkook standing in front of him. His wide eyes darted between the others, Taehyung and your shaking back. “What happened?”
Taehyung’s eyes immediately narrowed to a glare. “You fucked up, Jungkook. That’s what happened.” He ignored how the others shivered from his cold tone and how tears welled up in Jungkook’s eyes. “You had one job. One. Make her your number one priority.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Save your apology. I don’t want to hear them. I’m done with you.”
