BOB HOPE
May 29, 1903 - July 27, 2003
Tumblr media
Bob Hope was born Lesley Townes Hope in England in 1903. During his extensive career (in virtually all forms of media) he received five honorary Academy Awards. After a brief marriage to his vaudeville partner Grace Troxell, he wed singer and actress Dolores Read, with whom he adopted four children. Although they stayed together for the rest of his life, their marriage was not always an easy one, with Hope having a reputation as a womanizer, and constantly his constant travel for performances.  He was so busy on screen and off that he was facetiously dubbed “Rapid Robert”.
Aside from his collaboration with Lucille Ball, he was known for his partnership with crooner Bing Crosby on the “Road” films, his devotion to the USO, and his love of golf.
Tumblr media
In 1945, Desi Arnaz was the orchestra leader on Bob Hope’s NBC radio show.
HOPE (about Lucy and Desi): “Lips and hands were all over one and another. I never saw a couple loving each other more after Bogie and Bacall.”
Tumblr media
Ball and Hope had made four feature films together: Sorrowful Jones (1949), Fancy Pants (1950), The Facts of Life (1960), and Critic’s Choice (1963).
Tumblr media
Hope and Ball first collaborated on television on September 14, 1950 on the third installment of “The Star-Spangled Revue”, Hope’s first regular television program.  Lucy played the mayor of NYC and Bob her henpecked husband.
Tumblr media
Kicking off season six of “I Love Lucy” in October 1956, Bob Hope guest-starred as as himself. The story was built around the real-life fact that Hope was part owner of the Cleveland Indians Baseball team.
Tumblr media
Two weeks later, in one of TV’s first network cross-overs, the entire cast of “I Love Lucy” appeared on “The Bob Hope Chevy Show”. The premise of the sketch (later colorized for home video) supposed that Bob, instead of Desi, married Lucy and became her bandleader husband on the sitcom.
Tumblr media
In October 1959, Lucy and Hope were two of many celebrities paying tribute to “Eleanor Roosevelt on Her Diamond Jubilee” aired as part of “Sunday Showcase” on NBC.
Tumblr media
On January 10, 1960, Hope and Ball were two of the stars profiled in “Hedda Hopper’s Hollywood.”  Lucille is seen in front of her Desilu Playhouse on the backlot. Standing amid a pile of suitcases, Bob Hope talks about Hollywood in general, presenting almost a monologue on the subject.
Hope:“Hedda has a fabulous fund of Hollywood knowledge. She has to wear those big hats to keep the secrets from leaking out.”
Tumblr media
On February 15, 1961, Ball served as a presenter on “The Bob Hope Buick Sports Show.” Boxer Floyd Patterson could not attend the ceremony on the West Coast, so Hope shows footage of Lucille Ball presenting him the award on the East Coast, where she was appearing in Wildcat on Broadway.
Tumblr media
On October 24, 1962 Bing Crosby and Juliet Prowse joined Lucy for “The Bob Hope Show”. In a sketch, Lucille plays a District Attorney and Bob a gangster named Bugsy.
Tumblr media
During the “Bob Hope Special: TV Guide Awards” on April 14, 1963, Lucille Ball is nominated for Favorite Female Performer. Ball is not present so a still photo of her is shown instead. The winner is Carol Burnett.
Tumblr media
On a May 5, 1963 “Toast of the Town” (aka “The Ed Sullivan Show”) from New York City, Bob Hope and Lucille Ball promote their new movie Critic’s Choice.
Tumblr media
The pair continued their Critic’s Choice promotion tour that same day (May 5, 1963) by appearing on “What’s My Line?”  This would be their last film together and one they both considered a failure.
Tumblr media
On April 19, 1964, Hope and Ball teamed for a CBS Comedy Special titled “Mr. and Mrs.” in which they played themselves and a husband and wife acting team.
Tumblr media
Hope made a cameo appearance in "The Lucy Show” (TLS S3;E2) on September 28, 1964, that starred Jack Benny as a plumber with hidden talents.
Tumblr media
In “Bob Hope Presents Chrysler Theatre: Have Girls, Will Travel” on October 16, 1964, Lucille Ball does a cameo as Hope’s wife in a cast of ‘girls’ that includes Jill St. John, Marilyn Maxwell, and Rhonda Fleming.
Tumblr media
“A Bob Hope Comedy Special: Bob Hope’s Leading Ladies” on September 28, 1966, Lucile Ball played herself and arrived in Bob Hope’s bedroom on a chauffeur-driven adult-size tricycle! During their scene, old friends Ball and Hope continually crack each other up.
Tumblr media
“Jack Benny’s Carnival Nights” (March 20, 1968) featured both Ball and Hope, although they did not share any scenes together.
Tumblr media
Bob Hope was there when Lucille Ball won her fourth (and final) competitive Emmy Award on a May 19, 1968 telecast from The Hollywood Palladium. Don Adams and Bill Cosby also won.
Tumblr media
“The Dean Martin Christmas Special” (December 19,1968) featured many celebrities including Hope and Ball in (separate) cameos. Lucy promises that the kids at the City of Hope Medical Center will have a Merry Christmas.
Tumblr media
Bob Hope, Lucille Ball (and dozens of other stars) make guest appearances on “The Dean Martin Show” sixth season opener on September 17, 1970.
Tumblr media
On “Jack Benny’s 20th Anniversary Show” (November 16, 1970) Lucy plays Benny’s maid, Janet. Bob does a monologue about Benny but does not share the screen with Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
That same date (November 16, 1970) Ball appeared on “The Bob Hope Show: Bringing Back Vaudeville.” Bob plays a hypnotist who takes Lucy out of the audience to be his stooge.
Tumblr media
“Swing Out, Sweet Land” (November 29, 1970) was a star-studded patriotic special featuring Lucille Ball (voice of the Statue of Liberty) and Bob Hope entertaining the troops - at Valley Forge!
Tumblr media
“Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Jack Benny* But Were Afraid To Ask” (March 10, 1971) featured Bob Hope in a quick cameo as a juggler and Lucille Ball plays a star-struck young Goldwyn Girl seduced by leading man Benny.
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Naturally, Hope is on the dais for the “Dean Martin Celebrity Roast of Lucille Ball” on February 7, 1975.
Bob Hope: “Lucy’s always doing nice things. Even though she’s not with Desi anymore she got him a job as a dialogue coach on ‘Chico and the Man’.”
Tumblr media
“Bob Hope’s World of Comedy” (October 29, 1969) naturally included Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
“NBC: The First Fifty Years” (November 26, 1976) was a four and a half hour extravaganza that featured NBC’s biggest star Bob Hope, but somehow also included CBS star Lucille Ball, four years before she would leap over to the peacock network.
Tumblr media

Tumblr media

What does this all mean?
Charles, as the next (and arguably imminent) King, has his own set of requirements set forth by The Royal Family that are different than those delegated to the Cambridges or Sussexes.  He is not really relevant in this conversation.
Her Majesty’s government has a strategy.  That strategy is to promote William and Catherine as the future King and Queen of the United Kingdom.  Part of that is developing a working relationship with people outside of your realm.  It is for this reason that William and Catherine have been embarking on more tours of places with different monarchies (Sweden, Norway, Bhutan, Jordan) and more visits to places with charged political landscapes (China, Japan, Israel, Vietnam, the Occupied Palestinian Territories).  It will be their responsibility as King and Queen to maintain and develop these relationships in the coming years.  Note that the frequency and intensity of these visits was amplified significantly after William’s departure from EAAA, Philip’s retirement, and the Cambridges’ permanent relocation to Kensington Palace.  The Queen’s interest with respect to the royal calendar for the Cambridges is to prepare them to be King and Queen.  It is for this reason they do not tour Commonwealth nations as often as, say, Harry does.  They do not have to nurture that relationship - that is what Harry and Meghan are for, as of Harry’s appointment as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.  They don’t give as many Commonwealth tours to William and Catherine because that’s not what their primary focus is or should be.
Harry was appointed the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador - his most significant appointment to date - in April of 2018.  In this role, he needs to continue to reinforce and nurture the existing relationships between the UK and the rest of the Commonwealth.  Meghan joined that role upon her marriage in 2018.  He doesn’t have to venture outside of the Commonwealth because his role within the Commonwealth is both important and well-defined.
The Royal Family has split the Cambridge and Sussex international duties to focus beyond the realm of the Commonwealth and explicitly within the realm of the Commonwealth, respectively.  Based on this empirical data, it seems that William and Catherine have absolutely taken seriously their role as future King and Queen - evidenced by their visiting more countries overall, more countries with different monarchies, more countries with politically charged climates, and fewer Commonwealth nations.  Harry and Meghan have done outstanding work within the Commonwealth, which is exactly in line with their duties as The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and for Harry’s duty as the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.
In conclusion, you’re wrong.  William and Catherine have done plenty of work to prepare themselves as the future King and Queen of the United Kingdom on an international scale.  Harry and Meghan will devote a large majority of their international work for the rest of their lives supporting the Commonwealth, while hardly ever venturing outside, I would imagine.  Each couple is actively working towards the end goals set for them by the well-oiled machine that is the monarchy.  To have each couple overlap their goals is inefficient - why bother?  They each have their different areas of expertise under control, as evidenced by the data I have compiled above.
Next time you want to argue facts, then please bring facts to the table.  Your objective rhetoric pales in comparison to empirical data collection.  Check your facts, sweetheart.  You’re wrong.

Queen Elizabeth has honored one of her most steadfast traditions: her annual “Queen’s Speech” on Christmas.
The deeply religious monarch, 93, shares words of reflection each year as she commemorates the holiday. The Queen recorded the speech in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle surrounded by personal family photos.
In this year’s speech, she addressed the 75th anniversary of D-Day, stating that after the battle, “in the true spirit of reconciliation, those who had formerly been sworn enemies came together in friendly commemorations . . . putting past differences behind them.”
Wearing a royal blue cashmere dress by her go-to dresser, Angela Kelly, she accessorized the look with the diamond-and-sapphire Prince Albert brooch, which was given by Albert to Queen Victoria in 1840 on the eve of their wedding. Speaking about the life of Jesus and the importance of reconciliation, she said, “how many small steps taken in faith and in hope can overcome long-held differences and deep-seated divisions to bring harmony and understanding.

“The path, of course, is not always smooth, and may at times this year have felt quite bumpy,” she noted, “but small steps can make a world of difference.”
Among the family photos visible during the speech: a portrait of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall commemorating the 50th anniversary of Charles’ investiture as Prince of Wales; a family portrait of Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis; a photo of Prince Philip from the Queen’s personal collection; and a vintage photo of the Queen with the Apollo 11 astronauts at Buckingham Palace in 1970.

Filmed at Sandringham in 1957, she continues: “It’s inevitable that I should seem a rather remote figure to many of you – a successor to the Kings and Queens of history. The monarch gave her first ever Christmas speech five years prior at age 26, just months after the death of her father and before her coronation. The video, which shows the 31-year-old monarch wearing a metallic evening dress and a pearl necklace, was filmed at the Long Library at Sandringham. Portraits of her young children Prince Charles and Princess Anne can be seen in the background.
After talking about the advances in technology and how important it is “to take advantage of the new life without losing the best of the old,” the monarch goes on to discuss the royal tours she and Prince Philip undertook that year and the huge welcome they received, ending with: “I hope that 1958 may bring you God’s blessing and all the things you long for. And so I wish you all, young and old, wherever you may be, all the fun and enjoyment and the peace of a very happy Christmas.”

Chapter Three
“By The Seat Of One’s Pants”
To achieve through instinct or do something without advance preparation.
As I walked up the front walk that led to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s incredibly massive home, I couldn’t help but rub my hands together in an attempt to warm them. This early February cold is going to freeze me within the very next minute.
Why did I ever think not wearing gloves in this biting weather is a good idea?
As my Alexander Wang shawl coat bundled against me, I rubbed my hands against it; I could hear Max and Brady laughing behind me, I don’t know at whom (probably at my condition).
When I reached the entrance, there was already a butler waiting for us and he instantly led us along the colossal home, and eventually stopping in front of a double door room, asking me if he could take my coat.
After shedding my oversized shawl coat, I quickly knocked on the door and signaled Max and Brady to remain there itself and let myself in when I heard a voice allow it from the other side of the door.
As soon as I opened the door, I couldn’t help but be amazed at the enormously sized room which was intricately but modestly decorated, and even though I had been here for a few gatherings before, I still couldn’t help but gawk at Lloyd’s medals and trophies, proudly showing themselves off.
“Well, if it isn’t the lovely Adelaide Edwards, my lady” Gary Barlow mock bowed at me, kissing my knuckles and then both my cheeks.
I curtsied at him, “Kind sir, a pleasure”
As Gary laughed and backed away, I went over to where Lloyd was perched, on the bench in front of one of his giant pianos, I kissed his cheeks, and sat next to him.
“Now, what is this I hear about the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert? When are we having it?” I asked the two of them.
“Well, Gary thought of it, really. Or was it given to you? I never asked you this either” Lloyd said, playing around with the notes on the piano in front of us.
Gary looked up from his papers, “Well, it was a little bit of both, they were searching for an artist director to lead it and I volunteered” He explained, how the palace was searching around for a director to take up the leading role in the production of the concert.
“And how’s your wife? I heard she’s pregnant again?” I asked him, smiling hugely.
He nodded, clearly pleased and excited at the prospect of it, “Well, yes, our fourth one now, she’s actually due in a few days” he said.
“And you, miss 12-time Grammy winner, how come you’re already so busy right off the tour?” Lloyd asked, his throaty voice surprising me for a moment.
I laughed, throwing my head back, “Well, that’s just me, you know me Lloyd, I can’t just sit and not to anything. Well, other than the time when I write, that’s different”
They both looked up at me and then at each other, “Yes, well, about that. Reckon you could help us with a song we’re writing, we started yesterday by the way, but we do have a good few lines” Gary said, passing me a leather journal, weathered but it was definitely a vintage.
As I took a few moments, reading the two stanzas which were scrawled over the lines in the journal, I looked up impressed, “Goodness, this is nice” I said.
The two of them looked happy for a moment before Lloyd explained to me that the second stanza was probably going to be the chorus of the song. “We don’t have a title yet?” I asked.
“Well, we were wondering if we’d just call it Sing” Gary said, raising his eyebrow.
I told him to pass me a pencil, after which, I just stared at the paper and told them to play the two stanzas along with the melody. As soon as the soft notes starting filling the room, Gary’s voice sang along the familiar lines and words instantly started fumbling inside my brain.
To sing we’ve had… a lifetime to wait
I softly sang underneath my breath as the same notes continued to play.
And see a thousand faces celebrate
I thought about what the Queen represented, what she is meant to the general public of the countries that she is the head of.
You brought hope, you brought life, conquer fear, no it wasn’t always easy,
I paused as the beat of the piano continued to play, and then used the fourth line again, using new adverbs to replicate the national love.
Stood your ground, kept your faith, don’t you see right now the world is listening to what we say?
As soon as I had them written down on the sheet, I motioned them to start from the top, and as they got ready to play again, I picked up the guitar from the corner of the room (pretty sure it was just a show piece but Webber didn’t say a word), and played with the keys for a few moments, before the music starting filling the room.
As Gary sang the first verse and the chorus, I took over the second verse and repeated the chorus once again. As I finished, I saw the two of them grinning, and I started laughing at the expressions on their faces.
“Well? Do you like it then?” I asked.
“Like it? That was bloody brilliant, it was. And you took what, 8 minutes?” Webber said, shaking his head.
“We’re all British here, it shouldn’t have been as hard for us” I said, raising my eyebrows and then thanking him profusely so that he knew just how much his appreciation mattered to me.
Gary wasn’t really listening to either Webber or I as we spoke about the melody for the second chorus and a higher note sequence after that. As we tried out different sounds, a piano and a guitar doing their job extremely well, Gary motioned for us to stop.
“Alright, I have this idea and I know it might take a lot of effort and time from us, but it can only happen if I get you, Addy, on the board of directors. I know you’re a busy woman, but I’m hoping you love your Queen and country” He said, giving me a cheeky look, meaning, he was guilt tripping me into this in the name of my country.
My lord.
I narrowed my eyes at him playfully, “Don’t use the queen and country card on me, Gary. Elton told me about the board of directors by the way, and how you wanted me on it, but who are the people already in it?” I asked him.
“Well, it’s the three of us, I’m hoping, and Elton. We don’t want details to leak out, you see” He said, shrugging.
I nodded slowly, a smile threatening to creep on my face as I thought about what an odd group of board of directors this really was. Goodness.
He kept staring at me, “So, should we consider you in?”
“Yes, I’m hoping since I just portrayed my incredible song writing skills” I said, laughing and Webber clapped lightly and we got up from the bench and moved towards the old, vintage sofas in the other corner of the room.
“Now, what is this idea of yours that needs my help” I initiated the conversation as the same butler served us tea and biscuits.
As Gary explained to me the idea of going to some of the places in the different countries that are a part of the Queen’s Commonwealth, and have them sing, use their voices, their sound, record them playing music from their instruments and have them be the hugest part of this project.
“The Commonwealth Band” Webber said suddenly, as were stunned into silence by Gary’s incredible suggestion.
“The Commonwealth Band” Gary exclaimed, smiling, pointing at Webber.
“That does sound like an amazing idea, but clearly, we need to divide all the places we want to visit” I said, sipping my tea.
“Yes, yes, Adelaide, can you do Australia? I’ll take Jamaica and Kenya along with Webber” He said, a thoughtful expression on his face.
I nodded, knowing fully well that I’d have to confirm it with Victoria first since I did have a lot of places to be within the next three months, including the We Organization work, but I knew I’d be damned if I didn’t take time out for this.
“Ofcourse, I’ll take Australia, all we need to discuss is when we’re going to do it” I said.
As the conversation into that direction, we decided that within the next month the song should be completely ready, as in, recorded and shot. As Webber spoke about using the voices of the young girls in Kenya, where the Queen first got the knowledge of her father’s passing and her accession to the throne, should start the first verse of the song, I suddenly got another idea.
Looking up, I said, “Maybe this isn’t the best idea but hear me out, how about getting the Military Wives Choir involved in the song? I know for a fact that about 10 mains of those choir exist in all of the commonwealth countries, we can get them together in one group. I can talk to Adele, she has connections with one of the founders, here in the UK” I continued.
Gary paused and then looked at me, “How does your brain actually work? Bloody fucking hell” He said, shaking his head.
And then I took the charge to contact Adele and then fix a meeting with their organization in London, and see where we can go with them. I hardly think they will say no to this.
And as I decided that I’d be taking my leave, Webber halted me in my tracks, telling me that we’d have to record a video, just once he said, for the potential music video him and Gary spoke about.
“Then, the two of you should do it” I pointed out.
“Oh no, darling, you’re just as much of a part of this as the two of us. C’mon, pick that guitar, god knows it has never been put to such pleasant use, and take your place. I’ll have the butler set up a camera within a few minutes” Webber said.
As Gary and I laughed, taking a place and giggling at Webber explaining to his butler what object he was talking about and where it was kept. Lloyd Webber was certainly an interesting man.
Within the next few minutes, as promised by Webber, we had already recorded a video, even though it was as far away from being professional as it could’ve been, with Gary having cracked a joke before the song even started, Webber’s telling his butler to shift the focus in the middle of the song, and me laughing loudly, in the most unlady like manner throughout.
Once I reached my One Hyde Park Penthouse, I noticed Victoria and Lima were already seated in my kitchen, eating what seemed like a sandwich.
“I thought I was clear for the rest of the day? You know, my parents might just kill me if I don’t meet them tonight” I said, shaking my head.
Victoria pointed the sauce container at me, “That is what I thought too, before I had to hear from Lima that you’d gone to Lloyd Webber’s house. Why, shall I ask?” She asked haughtily.
I sat down in front of them on the lavish counter, as I saw Brady and Max go in their quarters, “Well, it was about the concert for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Gary Barlow is leading the organizing part of it and him and Webber were writing this exclusive song, just for this occasion, and then Elton called me to inform that Gary wanted me on the board of directors, and then we sat down to finish the song, and then we recorded a video of the three of us singing it and-“
“How many things did you do in two hours, good lord” Victoria said, eyes widened, taking a sip of.. whatever drink that really was.
“What are you drinking?” I asked her, disgusted as I looked at the brown colored liquid in front of her. Lima, at the same time, started choking on her lunch as she chortled loudly, almost slipping from her seat in the midst.
Vic looked at the glass and then back up at me, “Oh, this. This is ginger ale, Addy, you should know that”
“Ginger ale? For god’s sake, I can smell it till here. Why the fuck are you drinking that for lunch?” I almost shouted in horror.
“Oh, it’s just because of my son’s nanny. She was drinking it the other day and asked me to try it, and all of a sudden I felt rejuvenated, and so I decided it’d be a waste to drink it at night when I’d eventually have to go to sleep” She said, nodding like that made perfect sense.
“You need to get your son’s nanny checked; and also, yourself” I said, opening the fridge and finding it stocked. Grinning, I took out the apple juice and poured myself some.
“Now, look, that apple juice is so basic”
“Don’t start, Victoria”
“Sure ma’am”
The three of us sat, chatting quietly on random matters, all the while eating and sipping.
“Alright, Addy, I’m here for business, MusiCare had contacted us and they’ve given us 3 places, New York, New Orleans and Hollywood. It’d be a one day trip at each place, within the next two months, whenever you’re schedule is free to adjust” Victoria started, as Lima took her tablet out.
MusiCares is an organization that provides inpatient treatment to people and newcomers in the music industry and help them take the very first step toward long-term sobriety. These groups offer a safe environment in which clients can discuss the challenges of staying clean and sober in the music industry.
I’d been working with them for a few years, visiting whichever centers was fine with them. Addiction was a huge problem in the industry, and it wasted people away, it wasted their talents and careers away. So if one visit from me, and a few encouraging words with the people there would help raise donations and also help the patients and their morality, then why not?
After we discussed the details, Lima continued, “Now, we have the trip to Ecuador for the WE Villages Campaign. It’s going to be a 5-day trip, starting on… yes, 10th March. You had a meeting about this, right?”
I nodded, WE Villages was one part of the entire WE Organization. Alice was the head of the board of directors that generally kept me in the loop and up to date with any and everything concerning the organization. WE Villages supports community development in areas where there exists a high incidence of child labor, exploitation of children, and minimal opportunities for girls. This was a cause which was at such a high level of exploitation, that we just had to include it in the campaign.
“Yes, they’ve built over 15 health clinics, all in the right time allotment, how incredible is that?” I stated, smiling softly as the two of them smiled back at me. They knew WE was dear to my heart.
“And, we need you to sit for the main organizing meeting for WE Day” Victoria said, raising her eyebrow at me.
“Now that we have Prince Harry wanting to give a speech, his team will ask for all the information, granted, most of which is already decided but there are several decisions still pending, Adelaide, we need to not delay this any further” She continued.
“I get it, alright. That reminds me, Victoria, have you fixed a meeting with him?” I asked, a smirk on my face.
“Yes, actually, don’t look so bloody surprised, that was actually the real reason why I came here. Apparently he’s a very busy man, which I didn’t doubt but anyhow, somehow, as his secretary called it, they have agreed to host you for a meeting tomorrow” She said, all in one breath.
“You do realize that is a really short notice?” Lima commented lightly.
I nodded to that.
“Yes, but what do you want me to bloody do? His secretary is so unwilling to clear even an hour for this on any other day than tomorrow”
I paused, “Then he must’ve given you a specific time as well, I’m assuming?” I asked her.
Victoria nodded slowly, as if she was exhausted even trying to discuss the situation. “Yes, correct. Tomorrow at 6pm sharp, he has a meeting with his grandmother at 7:30, so it’d be a bit of a rush, they said’ she spoke in a bitter tone.
Oh well, this secretary is already on her nerves.
“Excuse me? 6pm in the evening? I’m loathing this, how I’m probably allowed an hour with him, almost as if he didn’t ask to give a speech for an event my organization is hosting. Why is this the other way round?” I asked no other in particular, already grated about this entire thing
“Well, I mean, he is the prince in this equation” Lima pointed out and both Vic and I gave her a look.
“Doesn’t mean that he has to act like a prince” I said.
Lima turned towards me, “I’m sorry, but what is he supposed to act like, then?”
My eyes narrowed at her, “Whose side are you on?”
She didn’t say anything after that, which left me in doubt about whose side she really was on.
“All things aside, just don’t say anything to him… of this sort. Prince Harry is probably one of the only royals you still haven’t met” Victoria advised, speaking calmly.
“Yes, yes, ofcourse, I think”
“Adelaide”

Princess Eugenie of York married her longtime commoner boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, Friday in a stunning Peter Pilotto gown and a royal Russian-style tiara, in a lower-key repeat of the nuptials that enchanted the world when Prince Harry wed his American girlfriend Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle in May.
The new couple left St. George’s Chapel and kissed on the steps while a gaggle of bridesmaids and page boys, including Princess Charlotte and Prince George, followed them out. They climbed into the glass-enclosed Scottish State Coach for a 15-minute carriage procession through Windsor, past gathered fans on the High Street.
The assembled guests at the second royal wedding in five months featured Eugenie’s many royal relatives led by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the bride’s grandparents, who entered the church to a trumpet fanfare.
Harry and Meghan, who wore a deep navy blue coat-and-dress outfit by Givenchy with a matching fascinator, entered the church to cheers, as did Prince William and Duchess Kate of Cambridge, dressed in a claret-colored dress, but they slipped in quickly to avoid grabbing too much of the spotlight.
The bride’s dress, by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos of the British-based label Peter Pilotto, featured a fitted bodice and full pleated skirt with an off-the-shoulder neckline that folds around the shoulders to a low back that draped into a flowing full-length train. The low back feature was at the specific request of Eugenie who had surgery at age 12 to correct scoliosis, according to Buckingham Palace.
She wore the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, lent to her by the queen. The diamonds-and-emeralds tiara was made by Boucheron in 1919 in the “kokoshnik” style popularized in the Russian Imperial Court. Her diamond and emerald earrings were a wedding gift from the groom.
The royal bride may not be as well known outside Britain, let alone her groom, 32-year-old Jack Brooksbank, a former bartender turned tequila brand rep, but a royal wedding is still something in the United Kingdom and the ancient town of Windsor was celebrating.
Even before dawn, hours before the ceremony was to begin in St. George’s Chapel inside the castle gates, people gathered in the narrow flag-festooned streets in front of souvenir shops stuffed with royal wedding knickknacks (although much of it featured Harry and Meghan).
The wind was described as gusty, which was a problem for the female guests and the elaborate hats that are required head gear at a royal wedding. But it didn’t rain and by the time of the carriage procession, the sun was peeping through the clouds.
Celebrity guests were among the first of the arrivals, including Chelsy Davy, Prince Harry’s former girlfriend who is a close friend of Eugenie. Liv Tyler, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell were also spotted entering the church. Cara Delevingne and Demi Moore were also there.
Eugenie’s uncle, the queen’s youngest son Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, were among the first senior royals to arrive, with their son James, Viscount Severn. Their daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, will be in the bridal party.
They were followed by Eugenie’s aunt, Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, and her daughter Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall, and her son, Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn.
Large signs at the castle’s ticket booth welcomed people to the wedding, but many visitors earlier in the week seemed unaware of what was going to happen, the Associated Press reported.
“No interest,” said Michael Taylor, a drummer from Chicago who toured the imposing castle Wednesday — but didn’t know about the wedding. “I don’t know anything about her. If she walked past me right now, I wouldn’t even know.”
Eugenie, 28, and one of Harry’s cousins, is the younger daughter of Queen Elizabeth II’s second son, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and the sister of Princess Beatrice, 30. Sarah wore a Kelly green dress and hat (the dress designed by local Windsor company Emma Louise Design), while Beatrice was in a royal blue off-the-shoulder dress from Ralph & Russo with a headband-style fascinator.
Eugenie and her sister are among the eight grandchildren of the queen, 92, and her husband, Prince Philip, 97, who led the extended royal family at the wedding. Philip is frail, retired from public life, and still recovering from hip surgery but he walked unaided behind his wife into the church. The queen was dressed in a pale blue coat and dress outfit and hat.
On the eve of the wedding Eugenie and Brooksbank were interviewed on ITV, which carried the wedding live in the U.K. Eugenie said she was so excited about the wedding she will be “running down the aisle.”
She and her father arrived at the wedding in a Rolls Royce Phantom VI, presented to the queen in 1978 for her Silver Jubilee. It was also the same Rolls the former Kate Middleton rode in to her wedding to Prince William at Westminster Abbey in 2011.
Eugenie carried a bouquet that complemented her dress and tiara and also featured a royal floral tradition: Besides lily of the valley, Stephanotis pips, hints of baby blue thistles, white spray roses and trailing ivy, the bouquet contained sprigs of myrtle from Queen Victoria’s Osbourne House. A sprig from a posy she was once given was planted against the terrace walls there and continues to thrive. Since 1858, royal bouquet have contained sprigs from that myrtle.
Special guests representing British charities assembled  inside the castle gates near the chapel where they watched guests and the wedding party arrive.
Some of the 800-plus guests and 1,200 special guests representing charities began arriving around 4 a.m. ET, two hours before the start of the ceremony.
Prince William and Duchess Kate’s two eldest children, Prince George, 5, and Princess Charlotte, 3, served as page boy and bridesmaid – their third family wedding in 15 months. Wearing white outfits by Amaia Arrieta of Amaia Kids, the children appeared lively and excited.
The only senior member of the family who did not attend was Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, the wife of Prince Charles, Eugenie’s uncle, who had a long-planned prior engagement at a school in Scotland.
As happened at the earlier wedding, the ceremony was followed by a carriage procession through part of Windsor in a shorter version of the carriage procession Harry and Meghan had.
After the procession, the families assembled in the White Drawing Room at the castle to take the official pictures. Guests then were scheduled to attend  lunch hosted by the queen at the castle, followed by an evening reception hosted by Eugenie’s parents at Royal Lodge on the castle estate.
The Sussex wedding featured two receptions, one hosted by the queen and one hosted by Prince Charles that evening. Eugenie and Jack will have a two-day reception, with an all-day festival-style event scheduled for Saturday at the Royal Lodge.
After the wedding, Eugenie, who works for a London art gallery, is expected to keep her royal title, HRH Princess Eugenie, but will likely add Mrs. Jack Brooksbank.
