the strange horse
At the beginning of summer, Aziraphale had taken in a strange horse that had gotten stuck in a nasty bear trap. He’d nursed it as well as he could, given that the only thing akin to a stable he’d had, had been the old barn that had been close to falling apart for a few years now.
The horse had a strange piece of horn on its head in the shape of a particularly thick and sharp twig, like sticking out straight of its skull. He had wondered about it, but had reasoned pretty quickly that plenty other creature in the forest had odd shaped appendages and horns too. If the sheep can have curled ones why couldn’t this horse have a straight one.
He cared for the horse to the best of his ability, being used to smaller farm animals as he was. He often questioned if his care was lacking.
Once summer turned into autumn and autumn turned chilly enough that he had to gather firewood again, something came by as if to check on the horse, flitting about when it thought Aziraphale wouldn’t see; in the dim of the ever earlier darkness, or in the dawn of the early morning light.
Aziraphale only ever saw traces of the creature but that didn’t worry him either. If anything, he was glad Someone other than him was finally taking more care of the horse. It had been a well groomed creature, clearly looked after by someone and Aziraphale had assumed the worst - that the carer might have met an untimely fate and had left the poor thing to fend for itself in the woods. He was glad to have something or someone other to check on it. Even if all he ever saw was a glint of bright yellow eyes reflecting the light of his lantern, in colour almost as uncanny as the horse’s citrus coloured irises.

an idea i've had bouncing around my head for a good bit, finally realized with a first draft!
some parts i have no art because i'm not sure what to put there, but the KEY parts that i had in mind are at least drawn with stick figures, so i'm glad to have made this!!
in case my handwriting is too atrocious, the song is 'Hic Svnt Leones' by Masayoshi Soken from the FFXIV Endwalker soundtrack (specifically from the Pandaemonium raids, Asphodelos: The Fourth Circle)
some small notes past here
personal things of note:
- adjust view of town in title card
- show the looters and muggers more clearly in 'from foul nests rise'
- adjust 'sin wrapped in sinew' so daniil is pulling on his gloves more tightly or something
- change 'here in the valley your death casts no shadow' to be a bunch of executors with one being the plague (and no shadow)
- change 'bred deep' to be blood dripping from the twyre maybe???
- adjust 'burns hot, burns brief' a bit, maybe just a shot of a flamethrower soldier turning away from someone burning alive
- figure out what the hell i wanna do with the first 'from the borders chaos bleed' bc im not sure about the town map as a bull thing???
- maybe for the part of music between 'here be lions follow me' and 'dig in' put shots of the townspeople suffering from the plague?
- swap the second set of 'picked clean' and 'bred deep' so thanatica is 'picked clean' and eva's leap of faith is 'bred deep'
