Vigcup Week 2023 Day 2!

Dragons:
Trusted Soul
All Hiccup could think about was his text as he coasted down the street. That single bubble, the urgency he could sense behind it. The fact that he hadn't answered the phone call he had tried to make after receiving it. It meant he was serious if he'd been sent to voicemail.
As he climbed out of the car, he opened his messages again while his other hand tucked the keys into his pocket. Two sentences, and he'd created expectations in Hiccup. Which resulted in curiosity, then doubt, then fear, although anger was not one he wanted to admit.
Hiccup knocked on the door.
He must've already been waiting for the sound because a millisecond later the door swung open.
"Viggo why did you need me to-"
"Come inside." His hand went to his shoulder blade and pulled him through the doorway.
"It is something you want to-"
"Listen," His hand flicked the other lock, "I knew you were the only one I could tell. I wait and news could spread."
"Oooo I'm so special," He teased.
"Move along, I really need you to see-"
Viggo pushed at his back. At Hiccup being unsure of how to navigate his home Viggo's hand went to his forearm, pulling him down the hallway. He finally released him at a door in the corner of the house, back facing the door to speak to him.
"Now before I show you, there are no pictures allowed, and you need to remain calm. If you're startled, they'll become frantic too."
"And you're really worrying me with a they."
Hiccup held his breath as Viggo reached backward and turned the doorknob. He pushed the door open, just as a scrittering sound at the door began. He came to assume that he had stashed pets away, but it still didn't explain why they was such urgency for Hiccup to see. Such secrecy.
"And thank you for not coming in short sleeves and shorts." Viggo made the last comment as the door opened its full length.
His jaw could only gape as the little creatures came round the door and charging toward him. Hiccup stepped to the left, kneeling down and extending his arms. Out of the corner of his eye Viggo was shutting the door anew.
They certainly weren't the pets he thought they were. All Hiccup could do was try to keep tears from obstructing his vision.
"You found- dragons?"
It was two of them, one of blue scales, and the other of black. Both were attempting to swarm the new arrival, yet in their attempts one would flap their wings then collide with the other. Leading to them snarling at one another. Hiccup came down to the ground, knees hitting first then sitting on his legs. The first to arrive was the black scaled dragon, not even caring to sniff at his hand before crawling underneath and dragging its back up his forearm. The blue-scaled dragon now seemed to show caution, the pupils of its yellow eyes narrowing slightly. Hiccup extended his palm, glancing up at Viggo.
"I would think this was CGI is it weren't for the fact that one is trying to climb onto my lap right now."
There was a quiet caw, then he felt scales raking against his skin. In moving his hand, the little creature allowed him to stroke all the way to the end of its spines on its head.
"How?" Hiccup asked in awe.
Viggo stared at the group of three with a soft smile. He maneuvered past to go grab a nearby stool, the spined-dragon trying to follow him. Once he had situated himself on the stool, he looked to Hiccup. Somewhat ignoring the scaled small one who had taken to bumping his ankle with its beak.
"I knew you were the only one I could tell. They certainly acclimated to you quickly."
"There's no way you could have guessed that. No one even believes these little creatures exist."
"Well there are dragons in the animal kingdom, just not of mythical tale which take to the air and breath fire."
"That's what you found. These don't look like wingless lizards. Come on, this isn't a lecture, stop keeping me in suspense."
"Your notes, my dear." He finally leaned over, tapping the little dragon on the tip of its beak.
It offered a vibrating croon, and after an attempt to nip Viggo's fingers, it gave two flaps of its wings. He scooped it into his arms, starting to run two fingers down its back.
"You're really trying to tell me you went looking because I went analytical on a piece of Viking text-"
"I read your section where you guessed what kind of environment they would take to. I scheduled a trip to the Dark Deep caves."
"That's why you were missing last week. But they don't let civilians traipse the tunnel systems because the structure's too weak,"
"Hiccup, you asked. Let me finish." He laughed. "Yes I went to a dangerous area. I went in the cover of night, because of your highlighting of dragons in the night."
"As part of a nursery rhyme-"
"These two little creatures were huddled in remains of a nest. High up, a shelf tucked away over a gaping hole with fragile sheets of rock. And I must admit, I remembered when you tried to make dragon sounds during the office hours."
"They came to you."
The little black dragon in Hiccup's lap was trying to snare his hand in its toothless mouth.
"It wasn't easy to hide them. I had to show you; you were the one who came the closest, who came to be right."
"Now there's evidence in front of us." Hiccup said in silent awe.
He was using both hands to stroke the dragon's ears, fingers tracing the smaller spines underneath.
"It would be hard to get anyone to believe us-"
"If there weren't concrete proof."
"I need your help in figuring out how we should go about this. Stay quiet or..."
Hiccup looked down into the effervescent green eyes of the little black-scaled dragon.
"A truly amazing discovery."
He had been trusted to be the first to have them in his lap.
