I'm rewatching GOT and absolutely raging that some people are like "Dany was mad from the start she was always gonna be like this"
No!
Dany'a mantra has always been to protect the innocent. She killed no more than any ruler and she always gave those people a choice.
Dany had her goal, she is the reason she has her dragons, she is the reason she has the unsullied, she is the reason she has slaves were freed. She paved the way for herself when all the odds were against her.
When Jon came to her and she agreed to assist with the army of the dead she put EVERYTHING she had worked for on the line. She lost one of her children to watch him become a zombie and pawn for the Night King (can you imagine fighting your beloved child in a mindless zombie state?)
She lost so much just so that others could gain, and after all that, even after it was Arya that killed the Night King, who did everyone praise? JON? And not only that they praised him for being "man enough" to ride a dragon that SHE DID FIRST.
She was never going to be good enough for the people she risked and lost so much for.
Then after that when the war against Cersei is back on, in just one episode she loses another child, brutally right in front of her. You can see her anguish and I think the only reason she doesn't burn the shit out of Euron was because of the risk it posed to Drogon (her last freaking child!). Then they kidnap Missandei, her closest friend and cut her head off right in front of her.
At this point Dany has lost everything, the only people she really loves at the point are Drogon, Greyworm and Jon, but even Jon comes with some serious doubt for her.
Her first child was murdered by the Night King but he's already dead, so what would you do to the person who murdered your second child? You would burn the fuck out of them and all of their foundations, rip them out root and stem.
I do not believe that pre-grief Dany would have ever burned that many innocent people, however she is distraught and desperate for revenge on Cersei - the woman who took everything Dany loves and did it with a smirk on her face.
I'm not even at the last episode again yet😅
Dany deserved so much better.

The problem isn't nuance or media literacy.
The problem is fans feeling like they own the work and characters.
The problem is people not deconstructing their purity culture and just putting its structure and attitudes into social justice and fandom spaces. (working on this myself and i will be making a separate post with useful links.)
The problem is using fandom spaces as social justice vehicles.
The problem is basing someone's moral character and values on what fictional stories and characters they enjoy.
The problem is the I'm right and if you don't agree with me you're stupid and a bad person mentality.
The problem is there is zero live and live mentality anymore.
The problem is rude delusional white social 20 something girls with a god complex saying "actually sweetie your wrong" along with a long line of mean girl insults. When they haven't so much as read a nonfiction book in years, watch a documentary that wasn't some flavor of true crime or researched something off of TikTok or Instagram. Sorry not sorry for saying that. I'm guilty of it too.
The problem is attacking actors, writers and other ARTISTS.
The problem with the current fandom climate goes so much farther than media literacy or nuance.
I'm tagging this in the GoT/HotD fandom but this IS UNIVERSAL.

It’s interesting that mirri maz duur (whether on purpose or inadvertently) kills rhaego to prevent future suffering he and his khalasar might commit, but ultimately causes the birth of a much more destructive entity. She tells dany that, “The stallion who mounts the world will burn no cities now. His khalasar will trample no nations into dust,” after the stillbirth, believing that rhaego would become a Genghis Khan esque figure in essos. However, it is rhaego’s sacrifice that quickens dany’s eggs, allowing drogon, viserion, and rhaegal to be born. In the end, mirri gives dany far more power than she ever would have had under drogo and rhaego, and far more destructive capabilities.

Not a bonded mount, but ridden once or twice by Jon Snow (a secret Targaryen). The only of Dany's three dragons to be unridden was Viserion.
Rhaegal was the secondborn hatchling from the clutch, and he kept the middle child energy throughout his life. Not as aggressive as his older brother, Drogon, and not as affectionate as Viserion. Rhaegal wasn't sure where his personality stood as either brother seemed to gobble up their roles completely.
Much like all the other dragons, Rhaegal too was trained in vocal commands in High Valyrian. Notably, "Dracarys," to which Rhaegal responds without question and by instantly breathing fire and burning anything in his path.
Another notable aspect of Rhaegal's personality is his care for Viserion. For example, it's mostly he and Viserion, especially when Drogon is away and they have time to themselves. And when the Night King speared Viserion, Rhaegal attempted to rescue his fallen brother.
Although Dany is called, 'the Mother of Dragons,' it has been rumoured that Dreamfyre (original rider was Rhaena, second rider was Helaena) laid a clutch of eggs, which were stolen before the events of the Dance of Dragons. Those eggs have seeminly been thought of as Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. However, nothing has been confirmed. The reproductive and sexual organs of any dragon can change, so it might have been any dragon alive and of that age.
With the look of Rhaegal, he and his two brothers have the same build. A very similar one to Dreamfyre, Seasmoke and Meleys. Most of Rhaegal's scales are emerald green, with a few bronze scales on the underside of his neck and tail. His frills and wings are yellow-orange colored, becoming a darker green near the wing-bones. His eyes are orange in colour.
It is difficult to say his fate, since the show and the book have gone in two very different directions.

Saw someone saying that Dany was evil for executing the slave masters without making sure she had the right ones because "slavers are horrible people so they couldn't be trusted to pick the ones actually responsible", and I genuinely don't think there's a better summation of how nonsensical this fandom is
