i saw someone joke around that ofmd is like a dnd campaign where stede is the level 1 fighter who put all his points into charisma and keeps rolling nat20s on his death saves, and ed is the level 10 fighter/rogue who's been playing his character as stereotypically badass and edgy forever but has gotten bored and wants to branch out his roleplay, and i can't stop thinking about this

Magpie and her patron, The Lady of Fallen Snow. Another with a ramble under the cut ♡

The Lady of Fallen Snow is a tilted winter court fey noble, cold and cruel by nature of the role she plays as a titled court noble. Each titled fey of the courts Summer or Winter acts as their title demands, and the more powerful fey are able to see how this influences them, while those of less power don't see the bigger picture for what it is. Winter is bound to cruelty, to scarcity, to selfishness and cunning. Summer is bound to passion, to ferver, to merriment and to promises made with righteous intent. They represent warring sides, cyclical, unending. A narrative made literal, personifying the change of seasons as a battle that is doomed never to end.

The Lady of Fallen Snow, for whatever reason, seemed to have chosen to betray her nature to help Magpie in a time of need. She'd cloaked her intent with ominous promises, and took something deep and dear to Magpie to protect something even dearer to her. Early in the game, she'd told Magpie to deliver sorrows on her behalf, to take dear things from people during her travels. And later, when Magpie said she couldn't do it, she was instructed simply to "Do as she must."

Even still, Magpie never really stopped treating her as if she was a dear friend. Naive optimism, maybe, but she thought it was best. Beyond her pact, she'd offer little gifts of trinkets, twigs, rocks. Shiny little things to show her appreciation.

When they met face to face again for the first time since the sealing of their pact, The Lady of Fallen Snow stole a moment of time, quite literally freezing it just for a bit to step outside her title as it binds her, and greeted Magpie as herself. Kicking off her shoes, sitting in a frozen garden with her. Ever since then, it's been made clear that she's very deeply endeared to Magpie. This silly little all-too-optimistic goblin girl, doing anything and everything within her power to rewrite her own story. When Magpie asked what she wanted from her this time, she was told, "To cause chaos, silly."

So tl;dr, that's her spooky powerful fey mom. In the session that prompted this drawing, she showed up just to help soothe Magpie to sleep during a brief visit to the feywild. I care about them so much so bad

(I should note that The Lady of Fallen Snow is a character of my DM's making, I knew nothing about her going into the game. Did not know they'd take it in the direction of "Magpie is her daughter now." I am not complaining whatsoever.)

Three sessions in, and the party has officially seen Izen’s Form of Dread!

Izen’s form of dread is something that he sees as a boon — a parting gift from his friend and patron that would protect him on the surface. He avoids using it around people, only because he knows he’s intimidating enough without it — but when he’s backed into a corner he wont hesitate to prove that he’s the scariest beast in the room.

Bad dnd character idea: A warlock who’s patron is just a sugar daddy. They don’t give them magical powers specifically, they give them large amounts of gold that they can use to buy spell scrolls and magic items. They do have some magic powers though. They only have spells that require materials to cast.

A devil's deal is a devil's deal. Sometimes costs an arm, a leg, a heart or a soul. And sometimes it costs every last loved one you have.

But hey, if it lets you hit a really cool shot and impress a girl, it's worth it, right?

Yes, the name is a L4D2 reference. No, Der Freischutz doesn't use a horse, but plenty of other depictions of deadly western marksmen do.

Mechanic/Feat Idea

Silliest worshipper

Description: You have the ability to use Divine Intervention and all the other “Ask to your God” spells any times you want with an instant recharge only if you use it for something silly (DM’s decision) and if your God is Chaotic-Neutral/Good aligned.

Functionality: You use the spell to ask something silly to your God (another of the same meal you just had, to win a low/no reward slug race, have a nice silly hat, find a good pun on the spot, etc etc) and the God does it, then you feel a pat on your head and hear an astral voice say “Yes, sure darling, no need to use your precious spells for this” you feel warm and then everything turns back to normal, with your wish granted.

This can also work for warlocks only if your patron is Chaotic-Neutral/Good aligned.

In general, this can take effects if your deity is a momma type, even if it’s Lawful/Good but if it is Lawful/Good sometimes it will say things like “But next time use it for good alright sweetie?” making you feel slightly guilty, the more you use it for sillies without using it for something good.

Inspiration: the BG3 playthrough of @dare-to-dm (silly paladins are my favourite, use this so you can have fun in D&D sweetie ❤️)

Been thinking about Willy. He's an awful, shitty dude. And in AMoD, it's implied that he was pretty awful as a child. Killing cats and generally being horrible to Stud.

But I've been thinking. This child's father drank himself to death. And who knows what happened to Willy's mom. I don't remember her being mentioned at all. And then his uncle just disappears. What a crap hand to be dealt.

I don't think it excuses his behavior. He could very well be a born psychopath. But it certainly reinforces the idea of generational trauma. Which is amplified in Willy. Because his behavior is affecting all of these families (and the Doodler), not just his own. His desire to live forever is now impacting Scary. And I'm fully convinced that he intends for her to die so that he can live.

(Side note: Isn't the Doodler his patron? I don't think someone would have to have a great relationship with their patron for it to work, but I wouldn't think he'd be able to actively work against them either... What is his relationship to the Doodler???)

I'm just really curious how this is all gonna play out.

Otherworldly Patron: The Absolute | Become a thrall… erm true soul of Baldur's Gate 3's absolute

Welcome to 'Inexorable' and what could be any more unstoppable than something which is absolute… ignoring the fact that the absolute is capable of being defeated. But yeah, become a true soul and expand your mind

Expanded Mind

Just the basics, by psychic and cast spells with your mind changing the spellcasting stat because it felt on brand.

Authority

The narrator saying "Authority" has been branded into my mind, I couldn't not add it. I did have to generalise it since I can't mechanically guarantee branded cultists. In the end, this is somewhere in between suggestion and command. It is, however, not a charm effect, so feel free to do terrible things to elves. And if you wonder why I let you harm people with it… fight the gnolls and get back to me.

Absorb Intellect

This was one of the illithid powers you can unlock, but since this isn't a video game, I can't just give you free healing. So instead, some risk reward. The higher the int of the target, the juicier the brain, but the more likely they are to resist this effect

Detect Intellect

This is a power from the elder brain in 5e, except not up to a mile. So I broaden you mind a little further

Psionic Transportation

The fly power is something you get if you choose to absorb the astral touched tadpole, so I made it the capstone

Exalted Mind

I like the idea of your otherworldly patron making you capable of expanding past your mortal limits, this doesn't actually increase you intelligence, but it does make it possible

Far Reaching Intellect

People like more range, right?

I will not be Denied!

I always like the idea of messing with creature type restrictions. And most undead and constructs are controlled anyway, so why not?

Psionic Backlash

This is based on two powers from baldur's gate, mushed together.

Psionic Barrier

Psychic shield instead of force shield. Seemed neat.

Psionic Passenger

Why not treat your mind controlled thrall like a familiar

Mind Blast

Yet another power, except as a spell, so I could scale it like one :)
