I remember when you talked about Nightberry and Cypressfoot that Nightberry thought it was a Star Clan's blessing to their relationship that one of her kits looked like her partner. And this made me think of Egrekit and the best polycule ever!

Oh yes, that's something I said a long time ago! Though none of BarrenClan worships StarClan except Cypressfoot, it meant a lot to her, and Nightberry is quite used to signs and omens (and frankly, appreciates a good one every once in awhile) and secretly liked it too.

Although Egretkit doesn't look much like Egrettail, the name is still certainly sweet.

Imagine being so transphobic you get it that wrong.

Some Kitty Cats....and their parents for fun.

Some random thoughts:

- Marshmallow’s dad was a warrior that defected and became a kittypet and settled down with Carol. However, kittypet life was too boring for him so he left very suddenly and became a loner, leaving carol alone with their son.

- Thornstripe and Snowspots are just like. distinguished rich people vibes. Literally got together because it was the most convenient. Don’t really care about their daughter Lakekit that much. They still expect her to uphold the same status quo of them though.

- Boarkit was born alongside several other kits, all which were stillborn. Cypressfoot and Blackberryhop decided on the name boarkit because of his strength

- Midnight and Bella are ex-show-cats. Not pictured here are several of Marble’s siblings. She does not care for being picked up.

"Issue #34: Sunset Days"

Here we are! The start of something great and terrible! Defiance has arrived, and we have no choice but to wait and see if anyone makes it out alive.

I never quite got to work Hush Puppy's fate as much into the comic as I wanted, so I'll go into it a little more here. She did starve to death, like Egrettail says. As Thrasher put more time into "training" his growing kits and less into hunting, Hush Puppy got less food and gave up a lot of her own for the kittens. A combination of that and pure stress just sapped everything from her.

Also, I feel this may need to be said; yes, the dream canine with blue eyes is Rainhaze, not Prowl, but Pinepaw doesn't know that. It is dramatic irony.

"Issue #30: Time Is a Circle"

...that's why clocks are round!

The story that Cypressfoot talks about in this issue is a reference to Issue 2, where she doesn't get very far into it except saying RoseClan's name for the first time. What she does end up telling is an expanded version of Nightberry's story from Issue 7, with more details and specific character names. And yes, it does indeed confirm that Longest-Claws and an early form of his predator gang were the ones who destroyed the original lost Clans.

In the first panel on the 3rd page, I included a couple cameos of other comicker's characters. They belong to thegreatmaddu, Giogeth, Songdogx, and StarrySwirly.

If you aren't familiar with the seasonal antler cycle and are very confused by why Deepdark is covered in blood goop, he's in the process of shedding! During the summer months, while deer grow their antlers, they're covered with a fuzzy substance called velvet. This fuzz is in fact full of veins and tissue, so in mid-fall when the antlers begin to shed, they can appear very bloody as the velvet falls off, leaving those familiar, calcified pointy antlers behind.

Next issue is a big one.

“Issue #21: Lovebug”

Yes, this is the second Cormorantpaw POV issue! It really is a great deal of fun to write him, the dense little beast that he is. I adore him.

The argument that Cormorantpaw references on page 2 is from Issue 5. You can go back and read it to see that scene in full.

Seven Silvers is a character I’ve mentioned before on this blog, based on one of my favorite childhood books, “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH”. Yes, she can read and understand advanced biochemistry. Yes, she invented fantasy cat HRT. You gonna do something about it?

Anyways, big day for Cormorantpaw! Tell him congratulations for realizing he’s bisexual and that he has a crush on Pinepaw in one fell swoop. And just for clarification’s sake, I’ll confirm that Egrettail is transgender and aromantic-asexual. And living her best life.

“Issue #15: Was It Something I Did?”

Apologies for this issue not being quite as exciting as the last few, but that’s how pacing goes. You need the more contemplative, slower ones to balance it all out. And payoff is nothing without its setup!

I enjoyed getting to draw Dustfeather a lot, anyways. I may not like her as a person, but her design’s very simple and easy. Her big coyote ears are a lot of fun.

Finally learning a bit more about Slugpelt’s upbringing! You may be saying: “But Slugpelt didn’t do anything by just being born and growing up, why would Dustfeather abuse her for that?" To which I would say: yup, you’re getting it.

How would you rank Barrenclan cats’ belief in starclan from most too least?

Cypressfoot still believes in it, and Nightberry vaguely knows about it but doesn't press it. None of the other cats know about or believe in StarClan. It died when RoseClan did.

How used to gore/death is everyone, not counting prey?

Mallow, Night, and Cypress are the only cat without living littermates. How do they feel (pre-BLOOD issue) about that? I know Mallow is a good guy, but I can imagine hidden jealousy when seeing his mate with her sisters. No one is immune to jealousy.

Were Erget and Asphodel getting to be good friends?

Will we see Corm's littermates again?

Is it possible that if Ranger had not found Rain, Defiance would've just killed everyone in Barrenclan?

Has anyone ever tried to kill Deepdark? or Prowl/Spike/Fang?

Well jokes on you, I'm gonna answer them!

Very unused to it. Plumstripe and Beeface's fight was the first time many of them had seen non-prey blood in awhile.

Mallowstar does feel a bit lonely sometimes, because neither of his parents are alive/around either (just to head it off I haven't really thought about them; let's say one was a BarrenClan cat, one was a loner, in a style typical of old BarrenClan). But the love of his family fills that up. Nightberry and Cypressfoot are old enough that they're used to their family and friends dying and have each other.

Yes, they were getting to be very close. Egrettail was a lot like a big sister/mentor figure to her.

In a sense.

It is very possible that would have happened.

Yes, people have tried to kill Deepdark and all his lieutenants. No one has ever succeeded, clearly.

“Issue #7: Foxholes Bite Back”

This is the point where this comic really catches up to my original YouTube speedpaint, because I shared the backstory of BarrenClan in that video as well. Note that this isn’t quite the full story, because Nightberry does not know all the true details (which we will learn eventually), but it’s as close as you need for now.

“Some things are better left forgotten” is a reference to Issue 2.

It’s always very nice for me to return to an aesthetic lineless art style. It’s like coming home.

Issue #1: “Dry Heat and Cracked Earth”

Welcome to Pinepaw and the Forgotten World! If you’re new here, this is an experimental writing/comic Warriors OC project that will update semi-regularly. It is loosely based on the Clan Generator Challenge, which I made a video on recently. The plot is all my own, though, and I’m very excited to get more into this story.

I do my best to answer any ask that is sent my way, so don’t be afraid to send a question or comment. My most favorite part of posting things online is hearing people’s reactions.

You can find character sheets of all the cats under the hashtag “reference”.

I would also like to mention, up-front, that PATFW will get into some darker themes than my typical Warriors work. I’ll always include a content warning if I feel it’s necessary.

Raz i hope you know the title and title card of this latest issue scared the hell out of me because by looking at them i thought it would be about Cypressfoot passing away from old age :(

My favorite thing about this issue is that the title is both a beautifully symbolic piece of imagery for BarrenClan's adherence to their past leading them back into the same situation they suffered through so long ago, and an extremely stupid Red vs. Blue reference. Multitasking ✨
