The video of her playing it in the Library of Congress is actually more impressive than at the show. She's crazy-talented, notes crisp and not overly breathy. Crystal both adds and detracts from an instrument. For reasons mostly related to the odd interior shape of my mouth, I had (and still have) a crystal mouthpiece for my clarinet. The problem with crystal is that it can make something sound cold, for lack of a better term, even if the rest of the instrument is wood. This flute didn't sound cold in her hands. I'd love to hear a longer piece from her on it.

WaPo had an article that went into how she got to play it with interesting details.

the fact that lizzo's last name is Jefferson means there's a nonzero possibility that one of the founding fathers enslaved her ancestors. which means the gesture of her playing a founding slaver's flute fucks even harder. absolutely iconic

Lizzo played beautifully and with extrordinary skill, but the white boys are apoplectic. So you know they're not upset because of the way she played or handled the flute.
