I waited 2 years for this episode and part to come out in dub and it's a little less dramatic but i really like the word changes. The voice work is softer so the new words hold more meaning. It still means the same thing but it's also different in that nice little way.

Why Obamitsu Makes Me So Sad

(spoilers under cut!)

Obanai and Mitsuri are definitely my favorite couple from demon slayer. In my opinion, they are also one of the saddest pairings. I will be explaining why in this essay :)

One could say that mitsuri loved what obanai didnt. His eyes, which were why he was allowed to live longer by the snake demon his family worshipped, were one of the subjects of mitsuri's love, as she adored how they looked at her. Even though this wasn't explicitly said, one could also assume that she didnt mind obanai's scars. She loved everything about him after all.

Something i realized is that mitsuri is very similar to kaburamaru. This may sound weird, but allow me to explain. When obanai's family kept him in a cell for all that time, kaburamaru was the one to help him escape. This caused obanai to not see kaburamaru as a pet, but rather as a close friend. Now, as for why this is also true for mitsuri, she basically did the same thing, just figuratively. When obanai & mitsuri were nearing their deaths, obanai told mitsuri that she made him feel like a normal boy, rather than one who should be treated less than human. She, figuratively, also helped obanai escape from his family & he loved her for it. Perhaps this is another reason why kaburamaru was crying during mitsuri's final moments.

Another thing that came up during their deaths was both of their negative feelings. Obanai felt he came from filthy blood and mitsuri helped him by showing him that he wasnt some bad omen or something, he was a normal boy worthy of love. For mitsuri's case, she has, on multiple occasions, expressed how she feels she doesn't do enough during fights & doesnt help. Obanai then revealed how she had helped him in so many ways. They essentially fixed each other. This can also be seen as if they were the "missing puzzle piece" they needed. Something that makes me think this is their character design. Obanai's design is dark & only black and white, minus his eyes, arguably the most colorful part of him. For mitsuri, her design is the exact opposite. Her design is bright and fun, like her personality, with the exception of her uniform, which is really the only part that's dark. In a way, they parallel each other while also being the exact opposite. This is the same with their personalities. Obanai is cold, and sometimes rude, but he has a soft spot for mitsuri (and kaburamaru.) Mitsuri is very sweet & inviting, but can be tough when fighting. They're exactly what the other needs. They're a perfect match.

Something else that makes this pair so devastatingly sad is the fact that they not only didn't get to get married, but they died in each others arms. It was mitsuri's dream to get married, even being her reason for joining the demon slayer corps. So, knowing that, it's so heartbreaking that she never got to have her dream come true w/the person she loved most. But, she at least got to spend her final moments in the arms of her love, which was probably the best place for her to die in. But, as they neared closer to their deaths, they promised that they would get married in another life. One with no demons.

kind of obsessed with lestat in this scene being fixated on that claudia is "ungrateful" and that her diary had "hurtful words for both her parents".... idk where I'm going with this like his anger at her is less about where she hid the bodies and more about the fact that she doesn't love him anymore.
