Fort Wayne kicks Mallards
FORT WAYNE, IN -- Another Quad City Mallards- Fort Wayne Komets game, another two points for the Indiana-based team. The Komets are the Mallards' kryptonite, and the schedule isn't helping as the Mallards are on a four game losing streak after Friday's match-up. Of those four games lost recently, two of them came against the Komets.
The teams began the scoring early, the first two goals coming in the first five minutes of the game. Kyle Thomas scored eight seconds into Alex Petan's delay of game penalty, Mike Cazzola assisting. Two seconds after play resumed from the goal, Jack Nevins and Taylor Crunk dropped the gloves. Ninety seconds later, Sam Warning tied the game with help from Brady Brassart and Justin Kovacs.
The second period was full of minor penalties, though the scoring was saved for the final frame. Curtis Leonard scored the game-winning goal five minutes and 27 seconds into the third period, Cazzola and Shawn Szydlowski earning the assists. Two minutes later Cazzola and Szydlowski would earn assists again, this time on Mike Embach's tally. Crunk would score his first goal of the season just one second shy of the nine-minutes mark of the final frame, Brett Perlini getting the apple.
With just 38 seconds remaining in the game Szydlowski got a tally of his own from Cazzola and Jason Binkley. Szydlowski's goal came on the powerplay as Kevin Gibson sat in the box for hooking.
Ned Lukacevic made his Mallards debut in Fort Wayne on Friday, getting two shots on goal. Tanner Milliron has yet to get the start for the Mallards after signing on January 3.
The Mallards continue on the road by traveling to Cincinnati to take on the Cyclones on Wednesday at 630 CST.

I'm surprised by how much I like the crunk nevin playlist. I'm hearing a bunch of songs I've never heard of before (my music taste has been pretty contained for the most part over the past few years even though Spotify said I explored over 50 different genres) and I am not complaining.
