Patrons on my monthly merch mailing list will be getting a 3x3 magnet of this little guy in November!! If you're interested in getting in on that, sign up for my merch tier before November 1st!
(You'll also get to see tons of unposted art, my sketchbooks, colour-ins, and more!)
Open beaked this time, complete with tongue and cricoid. This one has a notably slimmer beak than the other Crow but not to the extent of the Rook
Interestingly whilst Birds have a larynx they dont share the same function that it does in mammals. Whilst it does indeed protect the airway using a valve like structure it lacks the folds that allow production of sound.
That's because the organs, called syrinx, used to produce sound or even multiple sounds at once are located at the base of the trachea instead. That said the larynx does also control air flow which go on to affect acoustics.
