#crochet doily

Blocking this doily was an experience! It took a little over three hours and a bit of my sanity. I’ve told myself I’ll never do this again, but I feel as if that might be a lie..
Photos of the doily are of it while being blocked. I totally forgot to get any pics after I took all the pins out. The finished size was 51 inches in diameter.

FO: "Postmortem" in Pink Skelly
Tumblr media
Here she is in full. Fun fact, remember when I blocked upside down? Well my reel, I did the same thing. Whoops.
Once again - pattern: "Postmortem" by Ann Wanamaker, available on Ravelry here.
I used a 1.8mm crochet hook and a mix of crochet thread from Hobbii and Aunt Lydia's.

I made three of these little guys in total, I kept one for myself and gave the other two away as gifts to two of my friends in the crafting group I attend on Tuesdays at one of the libraries near me. It’s made using a pattern called Boo! From someone on Ravely, it’s free and somewhat popular, who doesn’t want a ghost doily? Boring people that’s who! I joke, but come on how can you resist?

To people who are doubting if they should block their (crochet/knitting/lace/other fibercraft) work, here's my experience with a crochet doily (cotton, 1,75mm hook):
Just after I finished the piece, before blocking. It won't lie flat, it's stiff, and the edges curl over:

After soaking the doily in water and pinning it in shape (aka while blocking):

After the doily has been dried for +- 24 hours (untill thoroughly dry) and releashed from its prison:

The doily now lies completely flat and the pattern is way more defined (I stretched it quite a lot to open up the lace). It feels a lot more supple and drapes nicely over the arm of my reading chair.
I'm very happy with how this doily turned out, and I'm planning to make another doily in the same colours (different pattern though, which I still have to find). This pattern is called Moonpetals by Julia Hart, you can find it for free online!
Ps. find the mistake I made while crocheting :)

A little spontaneous doily making after getting the urge to make lace. It's a nice little WIP!

Whelp I jumped from making my first normal doily to this monstrosity! It took me about 3-4 months, and 300 some odd hours to complete. It’s about 48 inches in diameter.
I used size ten red heart crochet thread, and what was supposed to be a 1.74 mm hook, but I have suspicions that it was larger.
The last thing in need to do is block it and weave in that last end. I’ll get better pictures after doing all that.
This is the first part of the pattern I used for the doily (this isn’t my pattern). There’s seven separate parts that you can stop at if your not interested in making the full thing!

Sadly I no longer know who this pattern is from, but I did draw the chart out in my notebook so I can remake it (which I am planning on doing some time soon), but here's a coaster! It's just a simple little doily, I originally made it with the intention of making a whole bunch and putting my plants on them, but I quickly changed my mind and just wanted to use it as a coaster at my desk.
When it comes to crochet, my favourite thing to make has to be doilies hands down, no competition, there's just something about them that I love.

Been working on crocheting this giant doily. Currently 15 inches across. This is the end of part 3 of a 7 part pattern called Arcanoweave
Here's part 1
No idea how I'm gonna block this thing but that's a problem for future me (I'm so sorry future me).
