I was thinking about how a lot of people will have "cringe moments" when they watch Heartstopper, but I personally have never had a moment like that when watching. Therefore, it crossed my mind that maybe a part of why this happens for some viewers is because we as people are becoming more "irony-pilled" as I've seen it called. As in, when something genuinely sweet happens, people feel a need to add a joke or bit of irony to it for likely various reasons. This pops up in a look of media where a character will say something heartfelt to another, but end it with something like, "That was so corny, wasn't it?"
This makes me wonder if this is why when people see the sincerity of moments from Heartstopper, moments that often don't have much, if any irony, and find it cringey. As well as if this is why I haven't had these "cringe moments" myself. I'm a relatively serious person in real life and don't use much irony. I also didn't grow up with tons of media that people seem to dub as "irony-pilled", like Marvel films.
I'm not really complaining about this mentality towards the show. Not yet, at least, but it does rub me the wrong way, I just can't put my finger on exactly why in this case, outside of the fact that I hate cringe culture. I was curious if others thought about this, agreed, or had any other ideas on why this "cringe" thing happens in regards to Heartstopper.
Just some food for thought.

⋆ . ˚ Inner Pride ˚. ⋆
Appearances differ
They all know it's true
It’s an unspoken statement
A circle of hues
Each one is a color
But for some, they are many
Mixes of one or the other
With no place to go
I am one of these swirls
And so are you
You are strong
But we do not know
That you deserve more
And that you regard of yourself too low
Be proud
Of who you have become
Appearances differ like colors
Each person is at least two
Inside and outside is different
And it is inner beauty you must find
Be proud
Of yourself and your stature
Be proud- of who you are
Be proud

soo uhhh i made a cringy and stupid side story antagonist ringmaster enasona thing
so well yeah here's sun jeong, AKA the antagonist(?) of my cringy horror ARG: Sun Jeong's Salty Jokes (clever huh /j)
she's an ageless korean girl who basically died for no reason and then magically turned herself into an evil ENAsona that allures people to her circus (Sun Jeong's Salty Jokes, because i was too lazy to make the circus name different from the ARG name) using her disguise, which resembles her child self (yes she naturally has blue eyes. reason is: I don't fucking know maybe a genetic mutation that led her chromosomes to land on a different gene pool, she still looks korean though).
and also on her true form her olive side NEVER speaks because it's a secret side of her that she despises. any way of trying to convince her olive side to speak will cause her main side to respond and threaten with violence and backlash. also, she LOVES to project on her workers and subjects; especially the soul children (a group of 6 children who were turned into dolls and puppets as a result of rebelling against her). in fact, she projects on them so much she clocked Remedios (one of her subjects, whose actual name is Rose Chandler but that doesn't matter) in the face and then excused herself by acting like she (remedios) was acting snobbishly and egoistically, when Sun Jeong was the one that was actually being snobbish and egoistic.
so.. yeah. enjoy the creepy little snob.
