Also, you know Orly loves working for Fjord and Jester now, because when they first met him, he had a lot of fun annoying the other patrons in the bar with his bagpipes. They are his ideal bosses tbh.

There should be an unofficial rule that if you lose a second character less then ten episodes from losing your first character then a magically convenient high level cleric appears outside of wherever they are and offers to res whoever they want completely for free.
...it’s only fair.

Every time I catch up on critical role, I get reminded about how annoying the fandom is and how little they understand how dungeons and dragons works. Use suggestion to end the hemming and hawing of a hydrophobic character that is delaying the inevitable encounter with water for several in game minutes? ABUSE.
I’m sorry but dungeons and dragons isn’t real life and critical role isn’t a tv show with a prewritten script. Not everything needs discourse.
I would stop looking in the tag, but the artists are so damn talented.

Ten things I noted about CR2E34 “Encroaching Waters” and the Talks Machina about it :
The turtle is so great !! It’s the NPC created by the community and Matt during the Fireside chat, and it’s such a good character.
Captain Adela !!!! From the first campaign when Vox Machina needed to cross the sea to the Water Ashari !!!! I love that Taliesin was the first to recognize the name, then Marisha.
“Stay on task, Widogast” needs to be on a t-shirt.
Nott pulls out an “opening scene from Pulp Fiction” while asking for Algar. It’s so great.
Tracy. Just Tracy. The hair-touching. The forced admiration for a guy from Beau’s part. That scene was incredible. Marisha’s a national treasure.
Yup. 2 episodes later, they’re already forgetting their animals. That checks out.
Taliesin, thinking back when Caduceus fell uncounscious : “I’m not rolling a third character !”
Matt’s revelation that Marion is kind of agoraphobic, and her place of work/home is really her safe place, is so sweet and sad… and explains why Jester hasn’t seen a lot of the world.
Matt and Laura talked about how it is watching their significant others flirt with other player characters. And it all comes down to trusting your friends and loving each other.
Laura - of course - does not miss the opportunity to go and give Trinket a hug. Then Matt remembers the moment when a fan sent Trinket via mail : the cast, seeing the package, thought it was a body.

Yasha: I don’t like Caduceus.
Everyone else: He’s from a graveyard and makes tea out of dead people.
Yasha: Never mind I love him.

I know a lot of people were upset about Caleb using suggestion to help Nott go into the water but, as someone who has a difficult to avoid phobia, I didn’t find it at all bad.
If I had to face my phobia and someone said “Hey, I can cast this spell and for the rest of the day you won’t be as afraid of this thing anymore!”
I’d jump at that in a heart beat.
It wasn’t forcing her to do something she didn’t want to do, it was giving her the ability to do what she actually wanted to but couldn’t because of her fear. That’s why she sounds sad when she realizes it’s a spell that will eventually go away. She doesn’t want to be afraid of water the way she is. She WANTS to be brave enough to go into the water.
Want to know what was bad in the way people assume this was in my opinion?
Mollymauk using friendship to force Nott to talk about things she didn’t actually want to tell him and Fjord about.
...Jester using zone of truth to force Molly to talk about things HE wouldn’t normally have to the entire group.
To sum up:
Using magic on friends to force them into doing things they wouldn’t want to do otherwise....bad.
Using magic to help a character overcome a phobia to do what they actually want to do...good.
