what do u think are tracy’s weaknesses and strengths as an actress? i’m asking this cause i wanna try and have a better eye for this type of thing, i love tracy so much and i think that makes it very hard to evaluate her as an actress, for me without any technical knowledge she’s just amazing :)
I'm not sure I'm the best person to come to for a better eye 😂
Like singing, dancing, or any other performing art, I have no technical training. I can only base this on my own preferences and what I think worked vs. may not have worked as much.
In regards to Tracy, I think she's their best dramatic actor. All of the characters have been able to have big explosive moments before and they've all been been solid, but to me she is just so strong with the subtle emotional beats. It's in her eyes. They almost glaze over when she's shutting down (7x18 in Voight's office or 9x04 after the panic attack) or really change shape in a moment when she needs to look vulnerable (end of 5x18, 8x11, or 8x16). I just think her strength is in her subtley and the ease with which she can display or switch emotions in what could otherwise be easily over-acted moments. She's also a convincing crier, which helps.
That said, the times I have felt like I didn't love the delivery as much is when she has to be explosive mad. One scene that comes to mind is in 9x04. She returns from finding the bodies in the water and is yelling at the suspect in the interrogation room. Something about soda. She has a tendency to tighten her jaw and lips when she's delivering a really angry line- and sure, people tense up when they're mad. To me, that makes the words almost come out as stiff and growl-y (which I've also noticed in other CPD actors). I would want to see a looser delivery in angry lines, if that makes sense, to allow for more fluctuations in tone as the words come out. Maybe that would be ill advised, I don't know. But I'd want to see the difference.

The synopsis to 10x20 sounds very similar to 9x01. I feel like maybe this will be Hailey's 8x16/9x01 (I hope you know what I mean), but in no way near as fatal as she's in the next 2 episodes. I do agree with you that this will focus her mind on what she truly wants. They also need to come back to Upstead at some point, so maybe this is their way of doing that 🤷‍♀️ Regardless of what happens, we know for certain that Tracy will absolutely kill it! I just wish they'd leave her alone
I am really liking the parallel here to those other episode. I’m inclined right now to say that I agree… I think whatever the case may be, it’s going to be both physically and mentally draining for her, so much so it leads to her going either deep into a cover no one else knows about or she gets abducted again. Both putting her on the brink (because let’s be real, it is CPD!) IF done properly, it could lead a really beautiful moment for her having a “what am I doing” moment, and her fighting for her own survival as well as fighting for her marriage. I may be giving the writers too much credit though, there. Tracy is going to do fantastic, she always does.

I know I’m gonna lose followers but...
...season 9 is over. Let's get into this (excuse the grammatical errors)
Tumblr media
I was going to make some long detailed post but...I’m tired so here we go.
1. Kevin Atwater deserved better. We literally got what, 3 Kevin centric episodes out of 22 this season?! How the fuck does that make any sense?! Where is his family? What happened to Vanessa and Jordan? Why hasn’t he taken the detectives exam? Why can’t any of his romantic relationships work? Season 8 was perfect for him with the blue wall battle and it was dropped to focus on UpStead and Voight. Season 9 picked right up after 8x16 and...nothing came of it for Kevin? No reflection? No contemplating if he’d stay with 21 when no one had his back? Kevin’s storylines shouldn’t just revolve around social justice/racial issues. He’s got way too many layers to him that could be explored. Tell the audience why he became a cop. Where does he see himself as a cop and being a black man in the city? What does he want out of his next relationship?
2. We did not need to see the second half of season 9 dealing with whether or not Kim and Adam would “make it work”. After everything Kim went through in 8x16 and what was supposed to happen to her in the beginning of season 9, they completely took that focus off of her and put it elsewhere and gave Marina fluff shit to work with. CPD writers love making someone come back to work after some traumatizing shit happened to them. Kim being bipolar with Adam about their “relationship” was not needed when so much more could have been focused on like her recovery, her ptsd, her relationship with Makayla, her relationship with the unit, her custody battle, and her getting closure on the Roy situation. To end Season 9 with nothing being done for her on that end was dumb as fuck.
3. The writing for Hailey and Jay only proved to me that the relationship should’ve never happened. Yes, I sound like a hypocrite because I shipped UpStead like crazy and it had potential but this season proved what we’ve always known about CPD writers and it’s that the writers can’t find balance to save their lives. Hailey and Jay should’ve been Olivia and Elliot, not a knock-off, poor version of Densi from NCIS:LA. Hailey and Jay have some serious trust and honesty issues. It started off with little lies such as Hailey lying about talking to her father in 8x05, and then it lead to a much bigger one with her lying to Jay (AND KIM) about killing Roy. Jay and Hailey are supposed to trust and love one another and the writers dropped the ball big time. For them to not actually talk about the issues at hand between them showed that the writers (Gwen) only wanted to appeal to fan service. By 9x09, we should’ve seen Hailey regretting her decision to lie to Jay. We should’ve seen Jay questioning if he could go through this again with someone he loved. We should’ve seen them actually working it out instead of sweeping it under the rug and acting like it never happened
Hailey is supposed to love and trust Jay since the “moment she met him” and she didn’t trust and believe that he’d have her back with this Roy ordeal? Clearly the writers didn’t have her tell Jay the real reason she went to New York either. And let’s be real, Tracy and Jesse make Hailey and Jay look really awkward sometimes. They don’t know how to flirt, hug, kiss; none of that shit flows the way it should and they are supposed to be best friends (dating) in real life.  Let’s not forget that the writers literally made it look like Hailey and Jay weren’t even married for the second half. All they proved is that they were great partners and friends. I’ve seen better fanfiction written than the shit that was given on our screens.
4. Lack of continuity is ridiculous. Nothing was mentioned about Kim’s trauma with the shooting and being left for dead. Nothing was mentioned with Hailey’s daddy issues. Nothing was mentioned about Vanessa Rojas. Nothing else was mentioned about Kevin and his siblings, especially Jordan. Nothing else was mentioned with Kevin and his issues with the blue wall and the trauma he went through from Season 8. Adam was forced to take drugs and we didn’t see a withdrawal issue or anything. The stress he was put under with Kim being hot and cold towards him, not fully being a part of Mak’s life should’ve taken a toll on him. The storytelling makes no sense whatsoever.
5. Jay vs Voight storyline was anti-climatic. Jay wanting to “save Voight from himself” has been an issue since Season 1. Jay could’ve left, he chose to stay. Just like Hailey chose to follow Voight that night with Roy and then lie to Jay it. Jay being this passionate about “protecting Voight from himself” only happens when it involves the woman he loves i.e. Erin in season 4 and now Hailey from seasons 8 and 9. Voight is every since of the word “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” and for Jay to act like he can’t stand the sight of Voight is both hilarious and eye rolling.
Voight has lost time and time again; Justin, Erin, Al...and he still hasn’t learned his lesson. I get that Jay feels like it’s never too late to save someone, but this season he was ridiculous. Then, for Voight to realize Jay and Hailey are married and he just lets it ride? Old school Voight would’ve shipped one of their asses, if not both of them, out of his unit, especially because Jay had such a superiority complex after 9x09. Voight letting Jay take charge more, especially when it came to cases that Voight wanted handled a certain way, i.e., this Anna situation showed that Voight felt he couldn’t really let Jay have it because Jay held it over his head that he too could make Voight’s life hell. Clearly they are going to bring back Season 1 Voight for Season 10 and it’ll once again be a battle between him and UpStead and who’s really in charge after the Anna ordeal.
In my opinion, season 9 was a let down when it had so much promise. I can honestly say I don’t think it should be renewed anymore after season 10, but this is the dick wolf universe and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get 20 more seasons lol.

kim was shot by roy in 8x16 and then killed by hailey and buried by vo*ght but when jay was shot by angela nelson in 7x09 why didn't vo*ght kill angela nelson? and let them get away with it?
That's an interesting question. You are definitely right; Jay and Kim were both kidnapped and shot, but Voight handled each suspect differently. Why is that? Here is my answer:
If you think back to S7, the Angela West mess started in 7x06 when Jay and Voight accidentally imprisoned an innocent man and got him killed. And to protect their careers and the Chicago Police Department, they decided to cover up evidence in the case. Even though they had solved the Marcus West issue, Jay still took it hard and blamed himself for the innocent man's death, so he decided to secretly help Marcus West's wife, Angela, and their son. Things were fine until they both got kidnapped, and Jay finally came clean to Angela about who he is and what he did. This led to Angela shooting him and the events of 7x10. So why did Voight let her go? I think the main reason is that he realized that Angela wouldn't be in this situation if the CPD had done their jobs right the first time. Marcus would have been a free man, the actual killer would have been in prison, and Angela and her son would be in a better place. He knew Jay was blaming himself for Marcus' death. Voight also felt responsible for what happened. Voight may have hated Angela for almost killing Jay, but he also felt bad for that woman and her son. Her entire life is falling apart because of CPD's actions.
On the other hand, Roy Walton is a monster. He not only tortured and killed the Deputy Superintendent's son. He also killed all the young girls he was trafficking and shot Kim Burgess. Up until 8x16, no one from Intelligence or CPD had done anything to destroy Roy's life. Roy was a monster; letting him go free would only destroy the city of Chicago. Voight and Miller had a close bond, and when Miller's son was found dead, he made it his duty to find the person responsible. And along the way, he found more bodies that made him hate Roy even more.
Like Jay said, Angela West is a good person who was just in a bad situation. A bad situation because of Voight and Jay. The only reason why Angela was dealing drugs and doing some stupid stuff is because she was desperate to keep her son alive. I hate that Angela shot Jay, but I understood why she did it. She was angry, hopeless, and frustrated at herself, Marcus, and Jay.
I hope this helps you understand the reason why Voight acted differently in each situation. Your question is definitely valid and reasonable.

lmfao you cant give explanation for why you hate s18 because you dont have any 😂😂😂 only reason you dont like rick eid as showrunner is because he didnt treat your precious burzek right but you want to make it look theres more than that 🤣 rick eid wasnt all bad with burzek. he could have kept them apart forever. in s7 he could have made someone else father of kim’s baby. after miscarriage he could have use it as excuse to separate them further. child loss does that sometime. instead he use it to bring them closer. he didnt have to make adam mack’s guardian and he didnt have to write adam freaking out for kim in 8x16.
I literally did give an explanation. All I didn't do was do an in-depth one because talking about the negatives of svu deeply exhausts me and I choose not to do that. Which is something perfectly valid and fine for me to draw a line at.
And lol, I hated Eid before I watched Chicago pd, and before I fell completely in love with Burzek. My dislike for him was born out of svu thank you very much. Although for the record I would like to say I didn't know he was the showrunner for the second half of cpd when I already hated what he made the show into, so you can't even turn it back as I was biased because of svu-- it just explained a fucking lot for me.
There also IS more to my dislike of his run as showrunner other than how he treated Burzek, and I've given AMPLE of explanations of why. Burzek's treatment is just one symptom of his crappy showrunning, and even if he had done burzek somewhat how I would've liked it/more in character I STILL would have this opinion of him, because of the fundamental ways he was wrong for cpd. I don't do blind love and I don't do blind hate.
And just some extra points
He did want to make someone else the father, timing was just not on his side.
He did use the miscarriage to separate them further again.
And even Eid in his crappy abilities as a showrunner knew it would just be so out of character for Adam to not freak out. Plus I still have issues with HOW he did that 🤣
Anyway, fuck you 🖕🏽

i think now because of 8x04 when jay triggered hailey and vo*ght knew something was going on between them and their strong bond to vo*ght as a father figure and when she lied to jay about her sick "dad"... and in 8x06 as vo*ght knew jay would do anything for the people he loves... and when vo*ght abused hailey in 8x16 and he knew hailey would stand by him even if he abused her... i think so vo*ght Hailey & Jay deliberately pitted against each other due to their "dad issues"... and I think it's shot in such a way that Sean (Jay) is the bad guy from Hailey's and Vo*ght's point of view... and Vo*ght is off the hook
I can see this train of thought. But I also think you are giving the writers of CPD way too much credit. I don't think they thought all the way through this starting in season 8.
I also don't really see Jay triggering Hailey in 8x04. I actually think it's the opposite- Jay said a lot of things to his dad before he died, and he was never able to apologize or even try and fix things with his dad. That's now something he has to carry for the rest of his life and he probably hates it. He doesn't quite get Hailey's relationship with her family and her dad.... But he does carry the guilt of not saying what he probably wanted to say, and I just think he didn't want the same thing for her. I think it came from a place of love.
And in 8x06, Jay could have not chosen to arrest the dad, but he did, even though he told them the one piece of evidence that they had against him. That's just Jay, being Jay.
8x16 is a whole mirage of issues between Hailey and Vo*ght, which I will save that essay for another post.
Now, Sean is an anomaly right now for me. I can see one of two things happening:
Hailey is right- he is dirty. He's in on this and he's trafficking girls.
Hailey isn't right- it's not Sean and it's the Chief. The Chief would have a great way to hide behind his own son, also given that they alluded to him having a past of criminal charges.
Or neither of them are dirty, and it's just a spiral for Hailey.
I do think it's the first- I think Sean is dirty. I think they are setting this up so that we see, feel, and experience Hailey going down this rabbit hole of grief and anger with what happened in 10x03, and everyone is going to keep telling Hailey she's seeing things, she shouldn't be doing this, etc. But I think she's going to be right and we'll have a nice fat "I told you so" moment with Hailey & the Chief.

in seasons 8 and 9, hailey was generally the focus and jay just happened to be there and present but nothing more... there could be upstead parallels again in the next few seasons (the roy thing only with jay, hailey's "i'm still me you acting like i am not" only swapped that hailey lied 8x16 - 9x04 only that jay this time lied to hailey for whatever reason) which parallels would you like to have? and do you think that gwen and the writers are scared and cowardly with jay because they never do anything brutal with him and since season 8 he's only been getting boring stories...?
I'm sure the writers have something exciting for Upstead next season. They are a big part of the CPD fandom, so it would be a loss if they completely ignore Jay and Hailey like they did in 9b.
As for parallels, I wouldn't be surprised if we get some parallels in S10. I don't know if they would do another Roy storyline for Upstead since that would be repetitive and boring, but I hope the writers have something prepared for us Upstead fans.
I am a sucker for angst, and I would love Hailey put in a dangerous situation so we can get some parallels from S7, but instead of worried partner Hailey, I would want worried husband Jay.
One of my favorite quotes from S9 was from 9x03 when Hailey tells Jay, "You don't have to tell me anything. You can, and I'll love you all the same." It would be such a cool parallel if Jay said something like that to Hailey. Maybe something about her abusive childhood comes up, and Jay says, "You don't have to tell me anything, but know that I'll have your back no matter what."
It's unfair to say that the writers never give anything brutal for Jay because, in the past, we have seen Jay in challenging situations (S3, S7, etc). But you are right; the past 2 seasons, it has been pretty quiet when it comes to Jay. Most of his storylines are related to either Hailey or Voight. I really hope S10 that changes, and we see Jay dealing with something big and Hailey supporting him through it.
