This character right here is basically a Brandon Roger’s character and even sounds identical to him. Like sounds just like him. If you close your eyes you can probably imagine this as any Brandon Rogers character. I probably wouldn’t put it past Brandon Rogers to say half of the things this character says anyways.
Tbh most of the gay stereotypes in this movie remind me of Vivziepop characters too. Maybe she watched this movie one day and figured “That’s what I want all of my characters to be”
so uhh an italian youtuber has probably accidentally found the original 1974 cut of the movie Coonskin (shown at the MoMA once and nowhere else) because he bought it from some guy thinking it was the 1975 one. but it's an unauthorised italian dub
Easily Ralph Bakshi's most contraversial movie and one of the most contraversial animated movies in general. This is a urban take on the brother rabbit, brother bear and brother fox stories where they go off to Harlem to take on competing gangs, the police and eventually the mafia.
The idea of taking jabs at song of the South as a satire to show how black people are treated (especially by 'Ms.America') is interesting but doesn't really work. I get that they were making fun of stereotypes but it just turns back around to being racist. The title itself is a derogatory term apparently, I wish they went with the placeholder name 'Harlem nights' instead. Even back when it came out it was heavily criticised for being racist and even went as far as to throw smoke bombs into the theatres.
Visually it is a step above Heavy traffic but it's character designs tend to draw your attention away from anything else. The blackface is definitely off putting but that's the point and non black characters aside from Ms.America are grossly exaggerated. That doesn't stop me from being uncomfortable about it though.
I can't say I like this movie but I don't think Bakshi deserved to have his career hit so bad. As uncomfortable and offensive this movie is it still doesn't feel malicious.
