So let's talk deadlifts ⚰️💀🩸
Many ways to skin a cat 🐈🫢🧟
Sumo - legs wide, hand grip narrow, feet pointing outwards (external rotation of hips)
Conventional - hands wider than legs, I like to have my feet pointing forwards
Both involve engaging your latissimus dorsi (lats) to protect your spine
A coaching tip I like to give my clients is to squeeeeeeze your bum as you lift - ensures you are lifting with your glutes and not your lower back
Another no no is to lift your shoulders before your glutes are engaged as you lift - if you lift your shoulders you will recruit your lower back which is not the aim of this exercise - focus is on glutes and hamstrings

In lbs: 145 for a 2x10, 235 for 2x3, 285 for a double , & 315 for 5 singles with the third attempt failed. Everything felt okay, including the third attempt. My feet shifted in the set-up and everything felt out of focus. . Had originally planned to max out today, but the snow here made training null and void. The deadlift is a weight training exercise in which a loaded barbell or bar is lifted off the ground to the level of the hips, torso perpendicular to the floor, before being placed back on the ground. It is one of the three powerlifting exercises, along with the squat and bench press.  Proper technique Here's how to Deadlift with proper form: Stand with your mid-foot under the barbell. Bend over and grab the bar with a shoulder-width grip. Bend your knees until your shins touch the bar. Lift your chest up and straighten your lower back. Take a big breath, hold it, and stand up with the weight. Is conventional deadlift harder than sumo? Conventional deadlifts are harder than sumo deadlifts. It's harder to keep the back flat, it's harder to extend the hips, and the bar must move a longer distance. They also hurt worse, make you sorer, and just generally leave you more fatigued. Haven't hit 390 in well over a year, proof that my wrist is at a way better place than it was. But more important than that is the simple fact that it was the first time I pulled this number using a #conventionaldeadlift. That's right, I pulled sumo last time! Sue me. But I think a large portion of my success up this point is a combination of training my #lowerback before performing ANY major lift and taking the time off during my injury to reassess my technique. Back thickness: The muscles primarily responsible for creating thickness are the upper back muscles: teres major, rhomboids, traps (upper, middle, and lower), and the posterior delts count here too…
