What worked for Me: Auditory Learner
Well, first of all, I recommend playing MY playlists! I jest, but I have left them at the bottom for you, if you're interested. I'd appreciate it x
I’m sure you’ve heard the classical music suggestions, I’m sure we all stan a lo-fi study girl, but I actually found lyrics really useful when I was finding it hard to concentrate, so long as I knew the song. For me, I always have a million things in my head distracting me from my tasks, but a song I know let’s me narrow it down to the task in front of me and singing along to the song.
What I did a lot was pick a musical soundtrack (usually Heathers) and pick one song that I was allowed to belt to as a break from work.
Alternatives:
Classics from your childhood
Your favourite album that you’ve listened to 600 times (ideally, one with no skips). Again, pick a song or two that you can break to
Disney soundtracks- pick your favourite princess (and/or Villain!) and study to Shiny and sing along to Just Around the Riverbend, or whatever the case may be. Considering the sheer number of BOPS, I might consider a second princess reasonable.
Songs not in your native language or target language- eg, I have no particular intention of learning Korean so blasting BlackPink is pretty safe for me. I speak spanish, so I’m not going to be distracted by learning Bailando by Enrique Iglesias. However, my main target language is Polish, so a Polish song would absolutely distract me. *UNLESS it’s that language that you’re studying, in which case there could be benefits eg French test coming up? It’s La Vie en Rose time, baby!
A film you’ve seen too many times. You can fully just put 27 Dresses on in the background and have a little stretchy when she’s trying on said 27 Dresses; or you can study to The Devil Wears Prada and take a break to quote along to Miranda’s “this… Stuff” monologue (aka one of the most iconic moments in cinema).

Hi buddy! Its Athena, I'm sending this out to all my mutuals - what got you into writing, what inspires you, who inspires you and what music inspires you to write? what do you love about writing?
Hello! Sorry for my delayed response - I didn't see this at first, and when I did find it, I was away.
What got me into writing: I'm honestly not sure that I can say. I always journalled, I wrote a fanfic-type story in elementary school (though I didn't know the term at the time) for an assignment, I did creative writing in high school and college. I think I wrote poems (and song attempts) well before taking those classes. So I think I've always done it. I didn't for a few years there, but I got back to it a while ago. I write poems off and on always, I think. I got back into stories with fanfics a few years ago, and have started working on original stories again more recently.
What inspires me: fanfics are a combo of the right character and trauma, usually, lol. Characters and themes that catch my brain the right way. Poems generally come from big feelings, though I've written some based on prompts, or inspired by Frank O'Hara's Lunch Poems. I'm inspired by fairytales, and broken characters, and love. It all comes back to love.
Who inspires me: favourite writers (Francesca Lia Block, Anne Sexton, Richard Siken, Neil Gaiman, many others), writer friends (@holycatsandrabbits @a-kind-of-merry-war @westmoor to name only a very few), people complimenting my writing or asking for follow-ups or story ideas etc...
What music inspires me to write: I was going to say that it doesn't, but then realized that that was a lie, lol. There have been songs that have given me story ideas/inspired me to write. Off the top of my head, I know The Amazing Devil & Daughter songs have done so, but I know there are others as well. As to what I listen to when I write, it's most often lo-fi music. I can't usually write to music with singing/talking/lyrics, I find it too distracting.
What do I love about writing: Man, what a question. Creating a thing of beauty? Making people feel things? Creating, expressing, making art. It's a pretty cool thing. I don't know. It's honestly just a part of me - an important part of me. Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's frustrating, sometimes it's spilling my blood on paper. If I'm not writing, I don't think I'm fully living.
Thank you so much for the ask/questions! They're good ones 💗

Sandy Denny + John Martyn - Sundown Theatre, London, England, October 26, 1972
The perfect October double-bill? Yeah, maybe! What's not perfect is the lamentably lo-fi recording quality of this tape, which I believe is the only audio representation of Sandy Denny and her friend John Martyn's run of UK dates together in the fall of '72. And this is coming from your Doom & Gloom pal, who has listened to the worst VU bootlegs in existence (and enjoyed them, damn it!). So, uh, buyer beware?
But is this tape worth checking out? Don't be silly, of course it is! The evening begins with Martyn surely scaring the folkie crowd, throwing them into the deep end right away with a long, effects-laden version of "Outside In," sounding more like Pink Floyd than Steeleye Span. Things get a little more straightforward as the set progresses — until John gets to his dubbed-out jam on Skip James' "Rather Be The Devil." Righteous.
"I had a WEM Copicat which I was using to try and extend the sound of the fuzztone on the guitar so I could play the same note for half an hour if I felt like it, and twitch it now and again," Martyn said of his gadgetry. "And of course it broke, as they do, and I bought the Echoplex and it sounded very nice, and completely by chance I found out that you could make rhythmic noises with it. I was actually looking for sustain. I wanted to sound like Pharoah Sanders ..."
Sandy, meanwhile, had just released Sandy, her second LP, and plays a bunch of those tracks, including stirring solo renditions of "It'll Take A Long Time," "Sweet Rosemary" and "The Music Weaver." Like I said, this is a very amateur recording — but part of the ummm pleasure (?) is hearing Denny's powerful pipes come close to literally lacerating the tape, cutting through the darkness like the Queen of Light. The Lady could sing! Stick around to the end for a subtle, almost jazzy rendition of her signature tune, "Who Knows Where The Time Goes." Magic. The main disappointment? That Sandy doesn't invite John onstage to duet on her lovely cover of Dylan's "Tomorrow Is A Long Time." That would've been soooooooo good.

You ever get reminded of a band you haven't listened to in a couple of years and then realize holy shit you used to love this group and immediately go on a binge listen of their whole discography. LOL
I got reminded of Hollywood Undead who I shit you not, fifteen years ago I would have never even clicked on one of their videos because they are rap-rock/nu-metal/industrial something band. They've kinda moved more into the nu-metal and rock over their earlier industrial hip-hop start I'd say. Because I used to be that asshole who was all 'Nah I don't listen to rap' and someone just needs to go back in time and smack me upside the head for letting my preconceptions just write off an entire genre of music.
Cause hip-hop can fucking slap. And I definitely dig the whole rap-rock/nu metal scene. It's interesting to see how my musical tastes have evolved over the years.
Anyway so I've been listening to their New Empire albums today at work and they're not bad, I think i definitely prefer Notes From the Underground and Day of the Dead more. That used to be my go-to I am pissed off and just want to rock out albums. But yeah they apparently have put out three albums in the past like...two odd years. LOL I guess they were working hard during COVID.
I'm about to start Hotel Kalifornia but I'm definitely going to go back and re-listen to Notes from the Underground/Day of the Dead tomorrow at work. I don't think it's gonna happen just because I can't split my attention enough to listen to them in one ear and customer's in another like I can with more laid back lo-fi music which just kinda fades until it's background noise. Pffft.
But yeah, I think I've gotten to an age where I'm willing to just give up all preconceived notions on entertainment and just fuck it, I'll give it a try. I still maintain a lot of modern country can be trash but that might be my inner Texan and having that shit shoved down my throat 24/7 for decades talking. However, even then there are some gems to be found and I still love old outlaw country.
EDIT: Hotel Kalifornia is DEFINITELY a lot better than New Empire Vol 1 & 2. Also? World War Me might be my new Locus theme song.
"I'd rather be dead than some page in some book That burns to the fire 'cause the devil I admire And I wanna watch it burn higher and higher Now I'm the only one that I have left to fear And one of us is gonna die, I'll die right here Let the cowardly speak so the cowardly sleep I am not you, no, you are not me It's an eye for an eye, now no one can see No reflection has meaning, the cracks that I leave Even when I sleep, I die in my dreams Put that noose around my neck, I don't want you to breathe."
That kinda sums up his toxic as fuck relationship with Felix and the identity crisis and all the shit he is going through throughout most of the Chorus Trilogy. Him tying to come to terms with Locus the Solider and Samuel Ortez who he has shoved into the back of the closet and tried to kill off for years and how he kinda reconciles the two parts of himself right before he cuts loose some much-needed dead weight aka gave Felix the boot
"I pray that you stay away You speak with the tongue of a snake Baptized in a shallow lake I hate myself when I see your face"
-coughcoughfelixcoughcough- Also just....that entire stanza. Just....all of it is -chef kiss-
Also ironically, Kill Everyone by Hollywood Undead's Nots from the Underground is one of my Felix theme songs.

SwynWriMo Day Eleven – Lo-Fi Beats to Be a Magick To
Not All Magic is Fairytales -- a playlist for dangerous magicks
Create a playlist for a type of Magick in the Swynverse.
Tracklist:
Heavy Games -- Portugal. The Man
Bottom of the River -- Delta Rae
Icarus -- Bastille
Tiptoe -- Imagine Dragons
Leave My Body -- Florence + the Machine
Some Nights -- fun.
Modern Jesus -- Portugal. The Man
Guilty Filthy Soul -- AWOLNATION
Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea -- Fall Out Boy
Jackboot Jump -- Hozier
I Wanna Get Better -- Bleachers
It’s Alright -- Mother Mother
listen to the playlist here.
cw below cut for – talk of drowning, oppression, death, fire
Heavy Games -- Portugal. The Man
A mother leaves behind a son who forgets her with a sunrise Brothers fighting not for love, or family but to survive When we can't help what we become, we become the only one But when we go we leave no one What will, I become What have, I become
I tried to choose songs that work for any dangerous magic. I think the refrain of this song “what will I become / what have I become” is the eternal question when you deal with a magic that is uncontrollable.
Bottom of the River -- Delta Rae
The wolves will chase you by the pale moonlight (Drunk and driven by a devil's hunger) Drive your son like a railroad spike (Into the water, let it pull him under) Don't you lift him, let him drown alive (The good Lord speaks like a rolling thunder) Let that fever make the water rise (And let the river run dry)
This is the first song I put on Lou’s playlist fun fact. It always gave me this feeling of--the singer is like trying to tell someone just to give up. You can kind of feel the weight of the burden in this song. It feels tempting to go to the river, to drown your troubles away...
Icarus -- Bastille
Look who's digging their own grave That is what they all say You'll drink yourself to death Look who makes their own bed Lies right down within it And what will you have left?
This song is very much giving like -- other people’s opinions. The first three songs on this playlist very much are how other people see those who struggle with their magic. (Or how people who struggle with their magic think others see them.) It is a reflection -- someone looking at you. Dangerous Magicks are constantly scrutinized, this is that song.
Tiptoe -- Imagine Dragons
In the morning light let my roots take flight Watch me fall above like a vicious dove They don't see me come, who can blame them? They never seem to catch my eye but I've never wondered why Hey yeah, don't let 'em know we're coming Hey yeah, tiptoe higher Take some time to simmer down, keep your head down low Hey yeah, tiptoe higher
This is my favorite Imagine Dragons song, fun fact. It is the song on the playlist that signals the first shift. It is more from the perspective of a Magick who has to keep their head down. The frustration that comes with keeping yourself small.
Leave My Body -- Florence + the Machine
I'm gonna be released from behind these lines And I don't care whether I live or die And I'm losing blood, I'm gonna leave my bones And I don't want your heart it leaves me cold I don't want your future I don't need your past One bright moment Is all I ask
This is kind of the “I didn’t ask for this song.” When it all gets to be too much, the judgement and the fear of yourself--you want to remove yourself from you body, you wish to exist somewhere else, somehow.
Some Nights -- fun.
This is it, boys, this is war - what are we waiting for? Why don't we break the rules already? I was never one to believe the hype Save that for the black and white I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked But here they come again to jack my style
An underrated (or forgotten bop) -- this is the second tone shift that makes up the latter half (almost) of the playlist. This song is much more confrontational. It’s directly talking about how they want to break the rules, that it is exhausting playing by society. “I try twice as hard and I’m half as liked.” Yeah.
Modern Jesus -- Portugal. The Man
Come on in Take a seat next to me You know we got We got what you need We may be liars preaching to choirs But we can We can sell your dreams Don't pray for us We don't need no modern Jesus To roll with us The only rule we need is never Giving up The only faith we have is faith in us
This is one of my favorite songs, just in general. I don’t know why aha. It just is such a groove. And it’s another kind of rebellious song. It very much gives like “oh you’re dangerous too? you can join us over here on the dark side” energy, which I think--dangerous Magicks kind of start their own little communities and comradery, a la the Hauntley Inn or wolf packs.
Guilty Filthy Soul -- AWOLNATION
Cause you gotta look her in the eye And you gotta love your way of life Cause you gotta guilty, filthy soul Don't ya know it's out of your control Waiting on a blood line You can find some free time Look at who you're hating Now you're celebrating
This is another song that kind of expresses the jaded bitterness of dangerous Magicks. Because, of course, not all “dangerous” Magicks are bad, but even when they do good things sometimes, it isn’t viewed the same way as less dangerous Magicks.
Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea -- Fall Out Boy
I think I got too many memories getting in the way of me I'm about to go Tonya Harding on the whole world's knee And I'm stuck night vision so stuck night vision But I come to life, come to life Some princes don't become kings Even at the best of times I'm out of my mind You only get what you grieve Are you smelling that shit? Eau de résistance
Another rebel song. This song turns up the volume a little bit. I love this song lol. Also, the ref to Tonya Harding is so great bc she is like a very mal-aligned person in history--which has kind of been a running theme of the playlist.
Jackboot Jump -- Hozier
All around the world You'd think that things were looking rough But the jackboot only jumps down On people standing up So you know good things are happening When the jackboot needs to jump
I love this song so much. Hozier writes the best songs for like current politics and rebellion and all that good stuff. This is really the epitome of the last five or so songs. It is kind of a rallying cry.
I Wanna Get Better -- Bleachers
'Cause I'm sleeping in the back of a taxi I'm screaming from my bedroom window Even if its gonna kill me Woke up this morning early before my family From this dream where she was trying to show me How a life can move from the darkness She said to get better
The final tonal shift for the last two songs! Hopeful, moving forward songs. Many dangerous Magicks let that label define them and find themselves trapped inside of it. Often times until they meet people who are willing to brave the flames or tame the beast within.
It’s Alright -- Mother Mother It's alright, it's okay, it's alright, it's okay You're not a monster, just a human And you made a few mistakes It's alright, it's okay, it's alright, it's okay You're not gruesome, just human And you made a few mistakes
This song is so soff to me. It’s very self-empowering. Self-soothing? Yeah. I see it as someone telling themselves this. That they aren’t bad, their mistakes can be overcome, and they are human (usually, lol) just like everyone else. <3

『チェンソーマン』 第一部完結記念 「早川家のリビング」
There’s a livestream from Shonen Jump called the “Hayakawa Family Living Room”. Chill music’s playing and the art changes from time to time to show different characters (when Makima pops up the music gets creepy lol).
It’s a premiere so there may be an announcement about Chainsaw Man at the end!

obey me boys + favorite music
a/n: this is. lowkey a meme. i just wanted to make the joke that beel listens to the joe rogan podcast unfortunately and this sprung out of it HAHAH....
lucifer only listens to "classical" music, he's very much a music elitist about it too lol. he loves to slow dance to it, and whenever they're playing softly in his room he subconsciously turns the music louder in hopes that you'll hear and come dance with him.
mammon likes anything mainstream -- mostly rap and pop! ski mask the slump god, anderson .paak, & bruno mars are his favorites. he's listened to leave the door open a million times trying to work up the courage to sing it to mc all seductive like but he breaks down every time he gets near them. cries to fka twigs.
leviathan strictly only listens to anime openings, his favorite devil pop groups, and vocaloid. 8-bit music and video game/movie soundtracks are also on his "acceptable music" list, and he complains if anything else is on.
satan, like lucifer, loves classical music. though, unlike lucifer, he also likes really loud metal and hyperpop (asmo's influence). also listens to a lot of true crime and unsolved mysteries podcasts when he's working or relaxing in his room. likes musicals, a total theater kid.
asmodeus has the "bad bitch anthems" playlist on loop whenever he's doing his makeup. lana del rey, electra heart era marina, megan thee stallion, doja cat, nicki minaj (he's 100% a barb).... he just loves female artists in general. comes to pick up mc for a date while "vroom vroom" by charlie xcx is playing loudly.
beelzebub just listens to those "inspirational workout" playlists that are made on music streaming apps by default. a lot of high tempo rap and pop music interspliced with audios of tedtalks help him focus when he's working out. he doesn't care much for music, he'll listen to anything, really. used to listen to the joe rogen podcast until satan blocked it on his devilfy.
belphegor likes more relaxing music, dreamcore, lo-fi hip-hop, & quiet indie music so he can drift off while listening to it. "moon song" by pheobe bridgers is probably his favorite song. also listens to white noise and whale sounds...
diavolo literally likes every type of music. he's a little behind on what's popular, so he likes to play the top charts music so he feels like he's in on the trends. also listens to podcasts, the celebrity gossip ones are a guilty pleasure of his. the type to make you a mixtape, if he knew how.
barbatos listens to white noise only. he doesn't have time to listen to music and if he did, he wouldn't use his free time to do anything but sleep. secretly loves to dance, and if you'd let him, he'd play some string music quietly and pull you into his arms <3.
simeon like bubblegum and upbeat music that he can leave on while he's working in the kitchen and not have to worry about skipping any songs. carly rae jepson (cut to the feeling is HIS song), kacey musgraves, boyband music... he also has a playlist of instrumental music for when he's writing or brainstorming new ideas.
luke listens to hymns and the alvin and the chipmunks versions of songs because simeon won't let him listen to anything with swear words in it. not that he would anyways.

➭karasuno music headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
content: just my shitty music taste lmao
words: 744
so ive gone through my music and picked five songs that i feel like the boys would vibe with or that jus reminded me of them
i apologize if the links are fucky , idek if people are interested in any of these songs but if so i wanted to make it easier to listen to lol
•••
❊ Daichi Sawamura
Here Comes Your Man - Pixies
American Pie - Don Mclean
Take On Me - a-ha
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
Come on Eileen - Dexys Midnight Runners
Daichi def listens to obscure dad music LOL. No 2000's music for him please, only the oldies! He's such a soccer dad, I can just imagine him grilling outside while singing along to The Beatles or some shit like that.
❊ Koushi Sugawara
Juicy - Doja Cat
Passionfruit - Benny Sings
Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles
Chocolate - The 1975
Get Into It (Yuh) - Doja Cat
I think Suga listens to a lot of pop, or just lighthearted music in general. I just know he's a Doja Cat stan and no one can ever change my mind. The thought of him singing and dancing along to pop music on the way to school is jus so fucking cute to me.
❊ Asahi Azumane
Starlight - Muse
Lover Boy - Phum Viphurit
Duvet - bôa
The Book of Love - The Magnetic Fields
Undergrowth - Caligula's Horse
Soft boy likes soft music. I can also see him liking lo-fi type music too like he def listens to it while working on new designs. He’s also a sucker for acoustic and knows a couple songs on the guitar (he totally sings too but will Never let anyone know in case they ask him to sing for them because how embarrassing is that?).
❊ Yu Nishinoya
All I Wanna Do - Jay Park
Jealous - Nick Jonas
Jackie Chan - Tiësto
Psycho - Post Malone
Butter - BTS
It's my personal headcanon that Noya likes to dance so I bet he likes to listen to a lot of hip-hop/dance music. He’ll honestly listen to whatever is on the radio though, like he’s not too picky. If it makes him wanna dance it’s good enough!! He's also def a BTS stan.
❊ Ryunosuke Tanaka
My Own Worst Enemy - Lit
Riot - Three Days Grace
The Sharpest Lives - My Chemical Romance
Devil In a Midnight Mass - Billy Talent
Ruby Soho - Rancid
Tanaka was the easiest to pick for because there's a lot of alt/punk(ish) music on my phone. He likes the kind of music that makes you wanna get in a fight LMAO, but he'll be doing the most mundane tasks while listening to it. He's the type of person to learn Every Single Song he likes on bass because he read somewhere that girls like musicians. He has also definitely been in a mosh pit.
❊ Tobio Kageyama
Don't You Dare Forget the Sun - Get Scared
There's a Class For This - Cute Is What We Aim For
I'm So Sick - Flyleaf
We Don't Have to Dance - Andy Black
Voices - Saosin
Another easy one! Kags gives me MySpace, emo, scene kid vibes so I can see him listening to a lot alt music lmao. I don’t necessarily think he has a favorite artist, but he likes certain songs and is always listening to something while practicing or working out.
❊ Shoyo Hinata
What's My Age Again? - blink-182
Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind
I Can Feel It - Hey Violet
Shooting Star - Owl City
Some Nights - Fun.
Hinata loves feel good music!! Idk why but pop rock is his fave genre lol, it had the perfect amount of energy to bust a fuckin move (think early 2000s coming of age movie soundtrack lol). Even though he can’t dance that well, it doesn’t stop him from trying lol. I feel like Hinata is the type of person to always be singing under his breath, or he’ll sing one part of a song out loud over and over and over because it’s stuck in his head.
❊ Kei Tsukishima
do re mi - blackbear
Endlessly, She Said - AFI
Paralyzer - Finger Eleven
E-Pill - Bass Santana
Baby, It's Fact - Hellogoodbye
I apologize for the amalgamation of genres here lmaoooo. Tsukki likes to listen to a lot of edge lord music and pretend to be all hard, but he also Loves Hellogoodbye and will take that to the grave. The only person who knows is Yams because he got Tsukki into the band.
❊ Tadashi Yamaguchi
Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson
Hannah - Freelance Whales
I Wouldn't Mind - He Is We
We're Going to Be Friends - The White Stripes
A-Punk - Vampire Weekend
Yams likes very bubbly, soft music if that makes Any Sense. He is always allowed the aux, even if no one likes what he picks because Tsukki makes sure Yams can listen to his lil songs lmao. Immaculate vibes all around.

Music Mixes
Lumberjanes “Arts and Crafts” Program Field
Treble Maker Badge
“Some Risks are worth the Reward”
Music fuels the mind and thus fuels creativity. A creative mind has the ability to make discoveries and create innovations. The greatest minds and thinkers like Hildegard von Bingen, Barbra Strozzi, and Florence Mary Taylor all had something in common in that they were constantly exploring their imagination and creativity. As a Lumberjane it will be vital that we not only enrich our minds, but enrich those around us. Music is just one of the many mediums that can create an empowering environment, it is one of the few mediums that can be enjoyed at any time.

Finch’s Notes Cont:
Hi! I made this post to avoid work. But mostly I made this post because Lumberjanes is something really important to me, and these playlist are a part of my enjoyment of Lumberjanes I don’t see people talking about a lot! So I decided to make a post in order to share them with y’all. I remember hunching over my phone making a spotify playlist (here, though it’s missing a few songs that aren’t on spotify) while on a trip to California in the summer of 2018 when I first got into Lumberjanes. I probably listened to these songs while I made my first ever Lumberjanes fanart. These mixes helped me to discover artist I really love, like Janelle Monae and Mal Blum. I hope you enjoy them as well!
Other notes: Sk8r Boi is crossed out as that is the way it appears on Mal’s playlist. Also, I tend to shy away from music videos as a personal preference, so that’s why there are so few included on this playlist, though I’m sure many of these songs have beautiful music videos. I might reblog this post in the future with some youtube playlists of these mixes, but if you want to find them yourself there are a lot of playlists of these songs made on youtube already! Or you can make your own playlists using this post.
And, just for fun, have one final Lumberjanes themed music recommendation:

Hero of Our Nation
Tumblr media
I first encountered Roger Ramjet on a Chicago public access station in 1983. It was part of an early morning show apparently aimed at stoner insomniacs. The show came on at five and also included episodes of Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp, that awful Beatles cartoon, and a weather report clarified by some appropriate pop song (“Here Comes the Sun” or “Here Comes the Rain Again”). I was usually up and around that early for some godforsaken reason, and originally started watching on account of Lancelot Link. Always did love that Lancelot Link. But Roger Ramjet was, well, let’s just say it was a revelation.
Roger Ramjet, “ that All-American good guy and devil may care flying fool” (as he compulsively introduces himself) was a none too bright and none too coordinated drug-dependent space age superhero in an ongoing battle against the assorted forces of evil (or more specifically, N.A.S.T.Y.) to preserve the American Way of Life. He was square-jawed, straight-laced, straight-faced, and True Blue if little else, so hyper-patriotic that nearly every time his name is spoken aloud an American flag, a bald eagle, or a rotating ring of stars appears on the screen. After catching one or two episodes, I forgot all about Lancelot Link.
The show was easy to overlook, especially when squeezed between the Beatles and some secret agent chimps with a psychedelic band. The episodes were only five minutes long (maybe seven with the abrasive theme song filling out the opening and closing credits), and were so crudely drawn and animated it might at a glance seem like something a couple of junior high school kids threw together in their basement one weekend. The shows were so primitive they hardly bothered with niceties like “backgrounds” satisfied instead to settle for rudimentary suggestions of a setting. But the writing was so sharp and the voice talent so good what it really felt like, if you paid attention, was a spoof of a ‘40s radio serial like Sky King or Gangbusters, complete with a soap opera organ and illustrated by a handful of jerky drawings scratched out by someone’s kid. People who thought Jay Ward’s Bullwinkle and Dudley Do-Right were crude when compared with the output from Disney or Warner Brothers had no idea what “crude” meant.
Looking at it today what it reminds me of more than anything are the paper cutout animations of the earliest episodes of South Park, before they upgraded to Flash. Along with the lo-fi stylistics, the humor was clearly aimed at an adult audience while pretending otherwise.  You may not find any child molestation jokes or crass religious cracks in Roger Ramjet, but for 1965 the lightning-fast humor was pretty hepcat and sophisticated, with undisguised satirical references to the Cold War, Central American turmoil, and the  Vietnam War (“Hey kids, this is Roger Ramjet,” demanding that you stay tuned to this station to see my next adventure,” Roger announces in his commanding superhero baritone. “Or I’ll see to it that all you little rascals are drafted.”) . Mixed in with the topical jokes we also get some highly unlikely name drops, from Noel Coward and Henry Cabot Lodge to James Joyce and bawdy nightclub performer Rusty Warren, as well as film parodies and  literary nods to the likes of Catch-22 and Catcher in the Rye.  It’s also a little less than what you might call racially sensitive by modern standards (consider Mexican revolutionaries The Enchilada Brothers, Beef and Chicken).
While a lot of the more timely jokes might be lost in the murk of the over 50 years since it first aired, there’s plenty of rapid-fire absurdity that’s timeless, from the misspelled title cards punctuating the narration to the self-consciously dumb coked-up adventures.
Bullwinkle aired from ‘61 to ‘64. Roger Ramjet came along a year later and Jay Ward’s influence is undeniable. The difference was Roger Ramjet crammed the equivalent number of bad jokes, references, and plot twists of a typical 8-part Bullwinkle serial into each five-minute episode, both mirroring the rapid-fire screwball dialogue of the ‘30s and the frenetic quick-cut comedy to come along a year or two later in shows like The Monkees and Laugh-In.
The episodes were produced with essentially no budget and were cranked out very quickly by a small team of writers, voiceover artists and animators with solid day jobs in radio and TV. They were all seasoned pros, some dating back to the days of classic radio, who worked on the show after hours as a way of letting off a little steam and tossing around a few cynical, subversive  cultural jabs their day jobs wouldn’t allow. The show was created originally by animator Fred Crippen  (who went on to work on some pretty dreadful crap like the Extreme Ghostbusters  and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Ken Snyder, an ad exec who moved over into producing cartoons. They brought in a remarkable team of voice talent and comedy writers, including Gene Moss (the voice of Smokey the Bear) Jim Thurmam (who did a lot of kids shows including Sesame Street), Dick Beals (the original voice of Gumby), and the great Gary Owens, a drive-time deejay in LA who would get national recognition soon enough as the on-screen announcer for Laugh-In. Although they would all get specific credits in the end (Crippen as director, Moss as a writer) it was a communal effort, in which everyone contributed to the writing, and everyone, even the executive producer, did a few of the voices. Apart from the regular crew, careful listeners might also catch a few uncredited guest appearances by some surprisingly big names (I’m told Sinatra and Dean Martin appear in an episode, but I’m still looking for that one). Owens was the star, though, as his ability to read the most ridiculous lines in a dramatic deadpan made him the perfect Roger Ramjet. Together they made 156 episodes (about 150 still exist), which were sold directly into syndication in ‘65 as half hour shows, each containing three unconnected adventures. I can’t say as I’m exactly sure who they thought their target audience was at the time, except maybe each other.
Much like William Conrad in Bullwinkle, each show opened with our narrator, Steve Allen alum Dave Ketchum, setting the mood and the scene (“In today’s depressing episode,” he’d begin with dramatic enthusiasm, or maybe it was an “existentialist episode,” “phlegmatic episode,” “rickety episode,”  “hairy episode,” or “ethnic episode”). Then we’re out of the gate at a breakneck pace, with a flurry of gags coming from every direction. “Ramjet rode into Boot Hill,” we’re told,  “where the men were men and the women were men, which can get pretty old after awhile.”
While none of the shows are connected, there are a few recurring characters and locations worth remembering: Roger hails from Lompoc, an actual California town (“where nothing ever happens, and seldom does”) and  takes his orders from General G.I. Brassbottom, a no nonsense military man who “hadn’t had an original idea since he was a civilian.” He’s also assisted by Yank, Doodle, Dan, and Dee, the unusually chubby  kids who make up the American Eagle squadron. Like Roger, all the members of the squadron wear their white jumpsuits and flight helmets at all times (Roger even wears his helmet on dates), and in true superhero sidekick fashion, their primary job is to get Roger out of scrapes and make sure his drugs are handy.
That’s one little detail more than a few casual viewers have taken umbrage with. Roger, see, is a pretty hapless character most of the time, but he repeatedly saves the world thanks to a little help from his Proton Energy Pills (PEP), which take five seconds to kick in, then give him the strength of 20 A-Bombs for 20 seconds. Modern viewers seem a little uncomfortable with the idea of a superhero gulping amphetamines in order to function, but all I can say is, well, it was a different time, and hey, it worked for Roger and Elvis both.
The proton energy pills come in handy when dealing with his arch-nemesis Noodles Romanoff, the short, trench coat and fedora wearing head of N.A.S.T.Y. (the National Association of Spies, Traitors, and Yahoos). Romanoff may not have a Natasha, but he does have a gang of cronies and thugs who all mumble in unison (save for one, who can’t seem to get the rhythm).
Along with Romanoff and his gang, Roger also has to contend with some lanky alien robots, the Solenoids (voiced by executive priducer Ken Snyder), and their repeated efforts to invade the planet in assorted ridiculous ways (in one episode, they begin kidnapping all the Miss America contestants, who “were disappearing faster than co-eds at a Dartmouth weekend.”)
When not saving the world, Roger found himself competing with the smarmy hotshot test pilot Lance Crossfire (who sounds an awful lot like burt Lancaster) for the affections of Lotta Love, the fickle Southern belle with a taste for the finer things in life.
Then there are the adventures themselves. Some seem standard superhero fare, but only to a point. Earth is besieged by flying saucer attacks (sort of). Roger’s hometown is terrorized by a werewolf (sort of). Roger plays tennis with a kangaroo, or becomes the first man to surf in space,  or, in a personal favorite, attempts to stop the flow of bootleg comic books into America’s drug stores.
Actually, there’s an interesting moment in that one that revealed just how subtle you could be even with animation this unsophisticated. Okay, so Noodles Romanoff, see, is replacing real comics in drug store racks with bootlegs in which popular superheroes are humiliated, all in an effort to destroy the morale of America’s children. After Brassbottom shows Roger a few examples (the issues include “Superman Gets Beat Up by a Chicken!” and “Ratman Stubs His Toe!”) he explains that if this sort of thing continues, “America’s kids won’t have anyone to look up to except YOU, Ramjet.” Then, for just an instant in that crude and jerky style, Roger cuts his eyes toward the camera, revealing in that moment everything we needed to know, namely that it’s what he’s always wanted.
Thirty years on and that still sticks with me.
In the end, though, the characters and storylines are secondary at best In Roger Ramjet. At heart it’s  a matter of trying to keep up with all the lightning-quick  jokes and wordplay, the non-sequiturs and references. In the five minute span of one cowboy-themed episode I counted nods to at least seven classic Western films, from High Noon to She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and I suspect I missed a few. It really is such a dizzying blur of dialogue and bad puns and cultural references, sometimes, christ, even just references to old jokes that take the form of bad puns (“Waiter, there’s a spy in my soup” or “how many angels can swim in the head of a beer?”), that absurd as it all is, repeated viewings are a necessity to catch everything. It’s a bit like having the complete contents of an issue of MAD magazine jammed onto a single page. It can make your head hurt after a while, but it’s worth it. Whether the density and the pace make it better or worse for stoner viewing is something, I guess, each stoner will need to answer for him or herself. Lots of bright colors, though.
In 1965 there was nothing new about making cartoons with adult sensibilities in mind. Betty Boop and Bugs Bunny were made to be shown as short subjects to largely adult audiences. Jay Ward’s cartoons a few decades down the line were near-revolutionary for smuggling hip, subversive political humor into what had become an exclusively child-friendly format. What made Roger Ramjet so radical was it’s blend of ‘30s radio style with mid-’60s cynicism, as well as its foreshadowing of our shrinking attention spans, a hyper-condensed proton pill of comedy and commentary disguised as just another dumb, low-rent superhero cartoon. Although it’s barely remembered today, its influence is still evident in most any subversive animated show you can name, even if they’ve slowed things down a bit.

what do you think the islanders’ favourite songs would be?? im very curious
This is such a tricky one, since they all probably have such varied music tastes and favourite songs (they’re just like us! lmao), but I’ve tried coming up with suggestions at least! I had a lot of fun with these and tried to give them all a disctinct taste as well, hope you approve 💋
Bobby
Bobby probably has an... interesting music taste. Punk, pop and rap, anything energetic. We know he used to be in a punk band and that he likes Cardi B, and I can so see him having had a SUM 41/Good Charlotte/Blink 182 phase in the 00s. These days he’s also a big fan of Megan Thee Stallion of course, and I think his current favourite song reflects that.
Favourite song: Savage - Megan Thee Stallion
Carl
I can see him listening mostly to music without lyrics, as he finds that quite distracting to listen to while working. Lo-fi, edm, and similar is good, but he also enjoys alt-J and gorillaz.
Favourite song: Breezeblocks - alt-J
Chelsea
Bubbly like her personality! Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Carly Rae Jepsen etc. She’s probably not very good at discovering new artists, but is super enthusiastic whenever her friends introduce her to music she might like.
Favourite song: Wanna Be - Spice Girls
Gary
I agree with everyone who’s ever said Arctic Monkeys for Gary, it just fits him so well! Additionally, I think he enjoys artists like Foo Fighters and the Beatles, or what do you think @mrsgaryrennell?
Favourite song: Arabella - Arctic Monkeys
Graham
Sea shanties.
Favourite song: Santiana - The Longest Johns
Hannah
Hannah’s taste in music is mostly limited to whatever they play on Radio 4 and certain mainstream artists (Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding come to mind). Anything calm, safe and seemingly deep™ is her jam, and she’ll be as painfully awkward about analysing lyrics as she is with books.
Favourite song: Young and Beautiful - Lana Del Rey
Henrik
Swedish boy definitely loves ABBA, how can he not? But being Scandinavian he probably also has a soft spot for (slightly odd) metal. Favourites include Skitarg, Sabaton, Insomnium, and Okilly Dokilly.
Favourite song: Min vän Klamydia - Skitarg
Hope
I imagine Hope enjoying anything that makes her feel strong and empowered, and makes sure to seek out and support black artists. Pacifically, she’s got a soft spot for artists with political undertones as well, like Kendrick Lamar. Other favourites include Chloe x Halle, Kehlani, and Omah Lay.
Favourite song: My Power - Beyoncé
Ibrahim
Rahim is so tricky, want to help @garyandhisnan? I can picture him enjoying artist like Drake and Dave, but also more “fun” artists like Lizzo and Doja Cat. He’s young and still discovering his style after all!
Favourite song: Location - Dave ft. Burna Boy
Jakub
Gym songs. That’s it, that’s his music taste. Jakub wears lynx and grunts along to his local gym’s playlist, and he feels badass while doing it.
Favourite song: Remember the Name - Fort Minor
Lottie
Anything witchy and that gives those spooky, black magic vibes, like Devil’s Witches, Blackwater Holylight, Green Lung... and Stevie Nicks. It’s very on-brand of course and she likes it that way. Secretly, she’s got a soft spot for the same artists as Hannah, but she’d never admit that.
Favourite song: Let The Devil In - Green Lung
Lucas
Ohh, he probably genuinely loves slow and sexy songs, and low-key loves a cooking-to-jazz Hannibal-style moment. The Weeknd, ZAYN, FKA Twigs, and Teyana Taylor of course. Does he have a super soft spot for kpop? Yes. Will he admit to that? Never.
Favourite song: Serendipity - BTS (this one’s for you @bumblebeesbuzz-litg)
Marisol
I feel like it might be a bit stereotypical, but I definitely think she enjoys Spanish/Latin music (think music she can dance to), in addition to artist such as Japanese Breakfast, Sampha, and calm music like that. I have a feeling she likes Spanish music especially, as it reminds her of home.
Favourite song: La Flor De La Canela - Paco de Lucía
Noah
I have a whole post dedicated to songs that remind me of Noah and that I think he’d enjoy, which you can find here. Basically; 70s and 80s rock/pop is his jam, with some soul in there as well. Him loving TOTO, and Hold The Line specifically, is pretty much canon, but here’s another song he probably loves as well as an alternative.
Favourite song: He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother - The Hollies
Priya
So very 90s and early 00s, that’s how I see her taste. TLC, Ciara, Destiny’s Child, and all the boybands. I mean, she’s definitely ugly cried to Boyz II Men. Cardi B is also her jam of course, as is a most rap and R&B really. These days though, there’s only one song that really matters.
Favourite song: WAP - Cardi B ft. Megan Thee Stallion
Rocco
Anything he thinks the girls will like, even better if it has some simple ukulele so he can serenade some (un)lucky girl in the back of his foodvan. Simple lyrics that are easy to learn, and that he can pretend are actually super deep? Perfect. Oh and he probably tries to write his own music.
Favourite song: Who Says - John Mayer

Santa Ana Winded | Gottrosé
Title: Santa Ana Winded Summary: Rosé is visiting Los Angeles just as the infamous Santa Ana Winds are kicking into high gear. On paper, that's fine, but staying with Mik certainly isn't going to make handling the potential effects of the 'devil winds' any easier. Word Count: 1823 Relationship(s): Gottrosé (Rosé/Gottmik) Rating: E
and thank you to @nickysjaida for beta-ing! ♥
read on ao3 | ko-fi
“Where are you staying, again?” Jan asked as he helped Rosé finish packing.
Rosé smiled as he propped the suitcase against the wall. “I’m staying with Mik. You know, he lives in that fancy house with all those influencers, and he was so insistent with that cute, little LA vocal fry, it’s impossible to say no to.”
Jan arched his brow – he knew his friend and he knew that smile. “You better watch yourself, sis,” he warned. “Especially going this time of year, that’s when the Santa Ana winds start hitting hard.”
“Why is that relevant?”
“They call them the Devil Winds,” he explained. “It’s known to cause weird dreams, usually about your deepest desires and fears. It also triggered the shit out of my allergies, but that’s not the point. It might cause you to act a little impulsive, is all I’m saying.”
Rosé’s brows rose in curiosity. “The fuck were you dreaming about at summer camp, huh?”
Jan blushed and cleared his throat. “It doesn’t matter because unlike during season twelve, I wouldn’t have had the chance to even consider acting on it, and I was having normal dreams on the plane home,” he said flatly. “You, however, are going in a lot more vulnerable to those devil winds,” he teased.
He scoffed. “Fuck off, I don’t even have allergies. And I think I’ll be able to control myself… you know, as long as I don’t drink,” he murmured. He was well aware that Jan and the whole internet knew what happened when he and Mik were left alone with alcohol.
“That’s a tall order for you, babe. Good luck.”
------
By the time Rosé landed in LAX, he had stopped thinking about Jan’s warnings about the wind. Jan was known to be dramatic, after all. He was sure his friend was just getting him riled up for no reason, or using it to justify whatever sex dreams he’d had about a certain other NYC queen, not that he was going to name names, but he could’ve.
It didn’t take long before he spotted Mik, but he’d only taken a few steps in his direction before the other queen came barrelling towards him at full speed, launching himself into Rosé’s open arms.
“Hi, baby,” Rosé greeted with a fond laugh, picking Mik up and spinning him around quickly, then carefully setting him back down. “I missed you.”
“I missed you so much, gorge,” Mik grinned as they made their way out of the airport. “This is gonna be so much fun. We should go live, the fans always go nuts for that,” he suggested. Once they stepped outside, he winced. “Fuck, it’s still windy as hell.”
Rosé nodded, “ah, the infamous Santa Ana Winds,” he observed as he loaded his luggage into the trunk of Mik’s car. “Jan gave me a whole warning about them. Do they actually fuck with your head and all of that?”
“I guess it, like, depends on your mental state or whatever. Last year we had to talk Gigi out of buying a plane ticket to Missouri, she was feeling it real heavy, like, she was either going to pull some teen romance stunt with Crystal or murder her boyfriend,” he explained with a casual flippancy as they made the drive back to his house. “Why, you worried the devil winds are gonna come for you?”
He clicked his tongue and shook his head, gaze avoidant. “No, just wanna be prepared for whatever chaos I’m walking into, you know? Knowing you, I could be walking in on an orgy or a crime scene.”
“I don’t see the problem here, gorge,” Mik retorted flippantly as he pulled up in front of the house.
Rosé laughed softly as he got out and grabbed his things. “Of course you don’t,” he retorted with a dry laugh as he followed him inside.
------
As it turned out, Rosé’s resolve not to drink was weak. He wouldn’t claim that he gave in to the peer pressure of a group of young twenty-somethings, but he would be lying if he said he didn’t allow himself to give in so his mind and body would shut up.
But he had fun, Mik was a good time and the group of them knew how to party without being over the top. Nothing happened between him and Mik throughout the night beyond some too-close, sloppy, dancing, so he went to bed that night considering it a success.
It wasn’t long before Rosé fell asleep, the powerful gusts of wind serving to soothe him. The way the palm trees creaked and rattled from the relentless devil winds turned into little more than white noise. The dream that followed, however, played out what he had prevented in reality.
The dream wasn’t coherent and linear, but the content was clear – he was in bed with Mik, both of them naked. Their hands and mouths were all over each other, moans spilling from their lips. It felt real, too real.
When he jolted awake, Rosé swore he could still feel Mik’s fingers lingering on his skin. His face and chest were bright red and his breathing was heavy. He looked under the covers and groaned at the tent that was pitched in his boxers.
Before Rosé could address the situation at hand, he heard the bedroom door creak open and he quickly repositioned himself on his side to cover his erection. “Mik?” he squinted his eyes as he tried to see through the darkness, adjusting enough to make out the familiar frame.
“Oh, perf, you’re awake.” Mik’s voice normally had such a casual nonchalance about it, but when he spoke this time, there seemed to be a mix of both strain and relief. “Look, I know this is gonna sound fucking lame as shit, but I had a, um…” he shook his head, just getting the words out was impossible with the strength of his pride.
“A dream, perchance?” Rosé chuckled softly and ran a hand through his hair, “because that would make two of us.”
The tension left Mik’s body and a spark of confidence took its place. “So, you feel it too,” it was somewhere between a question and an observation, but he didn’t wait for Rosé to clarify. He crawled onto the bed and straddled his lap, his eyes instantly going wide. “It really was the same dream, huh?” he smirked.
Rosé couldn’t even be embarrassed when he met Mik’s eyes, the lust he saw in them erasing any emotion beyond unbridled desire. Logic and reason were gone with the wind and the next thing he knew, his hands were on Mik’s face and he was pulling him into a kiss. It was deep and heated, their tongues swirled together and their hands tangled in each other’s hair.
Very few words were spoken – if they talked, they might start overthinking and psyche themselves out. They were already in too deep, there was no turning back now. It was too fast, fervent, clothes were being tossed aside in every direction. The only time they came up for air was when Mik reached into the end table drawer to grab lube and a condom.
They switched positions, Rosé rolling on top of Mik. He took the bottle of lube and slicked up two fingers, working in one, then another. His eyes were trained on Mik’s face, watching for any expression that he should stop. Instead, he watched his face contort in pleasure and listened to the moans that spilled from his lips.
Mik took the condom that was still on the bed and tore it open with his teeth, then rolled it down Rosé’s length. “This is your last chance to back out,” he warned, though there was a clear, unspoken ‘please don’t’.
“I’m not,” Rosé assured. He had already gotten to this point and god, he was aching to see it through. He carefully eased into him, one hand guiding his length while the other steadied himself by holding onto Mik’s waist. He let out a grunt as he bottomed out, then slowly picked up a steady thrusting pace.
“Fuck…” Mik exhaled in a breathy moan. His hips bucked up, picking up the rhythm of Rosé’s thrusts and writhing in tandem. He didn’t realize just how deeply and intensely his lust for him ran until it culminated in that moment. His fingers dug into the flesh of his shoulder blades, blunt nails still leaving indentations.
Even during sex, little was said between them beyond whispers of praise or dirty talk. Their moans and whines were loud and passionate, culminating sharply when they rode out their orgasms in tandem.
Rosé had to catch his breath before he pulled out, rolling the condom off his length and throwing it away. He laid back down and stared up at the ceiling, heavy breathing and wind blowing the only noises remaining.
Mik shifted over to Rosé, wrapping his arms around him and resting his head on his chest. “I know what you’re thinking,” he murmured. “Just… don’t say it.”
And Mik was right, so he didn’t.
------
“You’re looking pretty guilty,” Jan observed as he sat with Rosé during the uber ride back from the airport. “I don’t suppose this has anything to do with a certain LA-based season thirteen drag queen?”
“Nope, I didn’t even see Symone.”
Jan crossed his arms and arched his brow. “Come on, Rosie…”
Rosé groaned, getting out of the car and grabbing his luggage from the trunk. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he insisted before they walked up and took the elevator into his apartment. It wasn’t until they were alone in his bedroom that he sighed and confessed, “I had sex with Mik.”
Even though Jan suspected as much, hearing his friend make that confession still caught him by surprise. “Oh shit,” he gasped softly. “What are you gonna do?”
“I don’t fucking know!” he ran his hand through his hair as he paced back and forth across his bedroom. “How am I supposed to explain that I ignored the very clear instruction of ‘do not hook up with Mik’? I know being stupid is part of my brand, but this is crossing a line that I don’t know if I can bounce back from if I even deserve it.”
Jan stopped Rosé by grabbing onto his shoulders. “Listen to me, whatever happens, however it turns out, I’m gonna be here for you,” he promised. “I’ve gotta head out now, but I will drop everything in an instant if you need me, okay?” and after they exchanged goodbyes, he was on his way.
Rosé rubbed his face and stared at himself in the mirror. He shook his head, then his heart dropped to his stomach when he heard the front door rattling, then opening. “I’ll be right there, baby!” he called out, then refocused his gaze at his reflection. “You ruined everything, you stupid bitch.”

day two: relationship
I noticed kind of now being a day late with the prompts for @tmanostalgiaweek but I’m having fun so...yes?
-You know what? We should spend the breaks together more often- Tim passed an hand between his purplish, the brand new dye that had aroused the compliments of Sasha and Martin, and then lay your hands on the break room table.
There was tea in front of them, and Martin seemed to have just come out of a hot night of sex, drugs and lo-fi remixes from how exhausted he was.
His light eyes were stirred with a confusion similar to that of a puppy dog during a storm, while the cheek was held up only by his fist closed.
-Tim. I have a problem-.
It’s about time he spilled the beans.
-Take it out, Mimmo. I’m all ears-
-I hate when you call me Mimmo-
-I didn’t know that-
-Now you do-
Tim froze for a moment, seeing the other looking away with shame.
-How sour, what’s the problem?- he tried to be as apprehensive as possible, activating the “big brother” switch.
Martin seemed reluctant, almost like there was a cap in his throat ready to burst at any moment.
He was blushing, how cute.
-Ihaveacrush- muttered, lowering the eyes again.
Tim looked at him for a single instant, one step from spitting the tea.
-I didn’t understand- lied.
Ah, crushes.
The good old crushes.
He was a great expert on the topic.
Unfortunately for him.
-I have a crush. It’s awkward- said the other louder, nervously scratching the back of his head.
-Well, it depends on the object. It’s not embarrassing to have a crush per se, it’s embarrassing to have a crush on... -
-Jon. I have a crush on Jon- before he could finish the sentence, Martin had preceded him, the tone similar to that of a sinner who confesses with the priest.
And Tim’s world collapsed.
-Are you stupid?- after a few seconds of deep meditation (read as: after having mentally discarded all the life choices that had led him to that situation and after having bitterly repented of all) he sighed out that short but coincided statement, Putting his hands on the table so he could get a closer look at his partner.
-Hey, it’s not my fault! It’s not my fault if he’s pretty, and smart, and brilliant, with his white strands and his hazel eyes and his small hands and his perfect aquiline nose and-
-He treats you like shit, Martin- Tim threw himself on the back of the chair, putting an hand on his face in an act of sheer exasperation. -He really treats you like a foot rag. It’s a miracle he hasn’t fired you yet, and you get a crush on him? Have you become a moron?-
Martin started to mindlessly tapping his finger on the cup’s edge.
-In fact, I wanted to ask you how to do this. I’ve never had a crush and now I’m...? Confused is the right word- he smiled mechanically, finally drinking sips of tea now cold. -I don’t know what to do. Every time I think about him, I feel my heart melting like a candle in the room of two lovers, and every time he looks at me I blush like-
-Slow down, Catullus- Tim had let himself go in a nervous chuckle, hearing Martin’s mouth fill with poetry. -If you want some advice, here it is: don’t think about it. Try to live this life as peacefully as possible, and try not to get into trouble with Jon. It’s normal, I can’t help you much. Try to...try to get into his favours. Do something for him- he looked at the tea -Try to bring him tea from now on-.
Martin remained silent, meditating himself for a few moments (to be read as: thinking intensely of the whole universe world), then smiling as if he had finally found the ultimate meaning of life.. -Thanks Tim, you’re a genius! - Taking the cup and trotting towards the sink, Martin gave him a pat.
-Let’s not overreact-.
Soon after, Tim was washing his hands in the bathroom.. He had spent three hours researching a single task, because he was a perfectionist and the devil is always in the details, and going to the bathroom was a kind of salvation.
In every sense of the word.
The water slipped on his hands, his reflection smiled sly in the mirror, when Jon materialized at his side with his usual severe expression.
Tim had never been a jumpscare lover.
-Good morning, boss- found himself muttering, wetting all the sleeves of the sweatshirt. -How are you? -.
-This is not the time to say bullshit Tim, I have a problem- said the other with the voice of those who did not want to be there, fixing his reading glasses on the nose. Another one.
Tim swallowed saliva..
-Speak, I listen to you- threw out in a sigh, closing the faucet and leaning against the sink.
-Martin- Jon wasn’t exactly used to talking about his problems, so he didn’t know how to behave. -Martin was in short sleeves today. Did you see his shoulders? He has nice shoulders. I think he swam, because he has swimmer’s shoulders. Sure, I used to swim too but as you can see my shoulders are really-
-You’re rambling, Jon- Tim had to go and finish the job, he wasn’t there to hear the rants of the oldest young man he had ever known. -Be coincident. What is the problem?-
Big brother instinct: on.
Jon sighed deeply, opening the tap with a movement of the elbow.
-Martin is cute. He brought me the tea- he managed to make a tiny smile. -He was kind-.
Tim’s arms were one step away from falling.
He wanted to beat them both.
-So what? - He had to repress his instinct to start screaming, continuing to lean on the sink nonchalantly.
-”So what”.  I think Martin is cute! It’s not a good thing!- snapped nervously.
-How dramatic-
-I have every right to be dramatic!-
-But why? -
-Because I don’t know what to do! -
-Don’t think about it- exasperated, he recycled his old advice. -Just try not to think about it. It’s simple-.
Jon stayed a moment to think, he had never been good at not thinking, but deduced that maybe he could try.
-Thanks, Tim-murmured, wiping his hands with a piece of paper. -I owe you my life-
-Let’s not overreact-.
He sat down again at the desk and after attending not one but two idiots with love problems, he was able to take a deep breath.
Okay, now he could finally get back to work.
He got comfortable in his chair, opened the computer again, ready to continue his job.
At least until he heard Sasha’s voice call him.
-Hey, Tim. I have a problem- Sasha was at the printer’s side, arms crossed and hair tied in a high ponytail.
-You too a love problem? Uh? You too have a love problem and you need your Tim to fix it? Huh? Huh?- He clapped his hands on the desk, feeling the cheeks and the brain boiling. -I’m tired, too many problems to solve. Too much damage to repair and too many morons to mate. If you have a love problem, the solution of old Tim is "don’t think about it". Just don’t think about it. Just don’t think about it- he burst into an embarrassing rash, taking his head in his hands.
Sasha wasn’t getting it. He observed him as if he had just turned into a cockroach, holding his arms to his chest and taking on the expression of a sleepy student trying to understand the algebra lesson.
-Tim. The printer stopped working-.
