The Patakis Week Day 2!
I’m honestly so proud of this one, I just finished it today so I can post it in time. (I really don’t wanna fall behind like Inktober ☠️)
Following the prompts, here is the scenario:
Arnold and Helga are volunteering at PS 118 for their summer program that is essentially just a glorified baby sitting gig, which is why they’re letting high schoolers do it in the first place. We all know why Helga took the job, and it has nothing to do with kids. So when a young student in her cluster, Daisy May*, becomes overly attached, Helga exploits Daisy’s love of pudding. Arnold has been watching Helga too, and notices that she’s up to her old tricks. “You can’t just sit the kid in a corner with a pudding cup, how is she going to learn?”
“That’s how Bob did it and I turned out fine”
“Okay Helga, just be big enough to clean the mess”
*Fun fact: Daisy May is the name of the love interest in Lil Abner, where Arnold’s pet pig gets his namesake. Daisy May pursues the main character even though he shows no interest. It’s a Helga-ception.(credit to my bf for that)
One thing that I LOVE about Helga is her tenacity to break the rules (law😝) for the sake of her personal mission. Since it’s just a blurb for a picture, I didn’t get too detailed with the plot but I’d like to think that Helga was getting up to something Football related 😏
I wanted her face to look frustrated for being caught out, but also totally elated that Arnold was paying attention to her 😍

Since I’m using my Tumblr as more of an “art diary”, I’d like to include some more info behind what went into this piece:
Much like Inktober, I’m using this challenge to learn more about Procreate, experiment with brushes and figure out what’s “right” for me.
To be frank, it has been a mildly frustrating experience internally because I already know that my weakness is color. Digital painting and traditional are just not the same, they don’t work the same (to me anyway). The interface of Procreate is so different from Photoshop too, finding and remembering to use tools isn’t a simple transition, either. It makes me self conscious of my art, even though I’ve gone to art school, and it throws me off to have to stop and Google stuff. But! I think with this piece, I’m FINALLY in a good groove of how I want my art to look and how to get there.
TLDR; I cry bc the lesson I refuse to learn is that you never stop learning 🙃
PS - skipping Patakis Week Day 3 to put the amount of effort and time that I want to put into Day 4’s prompt, however, I’ll still post something fun! 💜

Saving Memories One Page at a Time
Cas takes up scrapbooking with a passion and Dean tries his best to avoid getting involved.
Suptober prompt: Wicked

“Dean, would you like to help me?” Cas looks up from the kitchen table, which is currently covered with several teetering piles of crafting supplies, and offers his boyfriend a beseeching smile.
Dean has been avoiding this conversation all week.
Newly human and blessed with almost endless spare time now that Sam's hunter network covers the majority of cases in the country, Cas has been trying out some hobbies. In the past few weeks, he's knitted dozens of scarves and hats (most of which have been donated to the homeless shelter downtown). There's a new garden behind the Bunker, lush and thriving. He passed level 12,000 on Candy Crush. And he dusted off a film camera that he'd found on a back shelf of the library and used it to produce approximately a metric shit-ton of photographs. Cas has now thoroughly documented the Bunker, its inhabitants, their daily routines, their every meal, the garden and its surroundings, and just about every stray mammal in the county.
These pictures cannot simply be shoved into a shoebox like Dean had assumed, however. Oh no no. They must be lovingly preserved, a handful at a time, on acid-free paper, in themed groupings, adorned with complementary accents, borders, rubber stamps, stickers, and hand-calligraphed inspirational quotes.
In other words, Cas has gone gaga for scrapbooking. And he wants Dean to join him.
Now, never let it be said that Dean shies away from the creative and the domestic arts. Once he settled into the Bunker and let himself shake off his Dad's bullshit rules for “How a Man Should Act,” Dean dove headfirst into homemaking.
He's got a Pinterest board where he saves recipes that the whole family will eat (because you try cooking a casserole that can be enjoyed by a Meat Man, a Paleo-flexitarian, a freshly-fallen connoisseur of individual molecules, and God Himself with a four-year-old's palate). He's dabbled in interior decorating, running up their bottomless credit cards at Pottery Barn and IKEA to freshen the living areas with overstuffed couches and coordinating throw pillows. And when someone's got a ripped flannel or a pair of jeans that needs to be altered? Dean's the guy with the mad needle skillz they all turn to.
Scrapbooking, though? That feels a little too much like the sort of thing Karen from the suburbs does with her time, in between wine-soaked book club meetings with her gal pals and clandestine dalliances with the pool boy. Dean is firmly uninterested.
But Cas has been sending out increasingly loud “come join me” signals ever since he pasted his first snapshot of a sunset onto a piece of blue card stock last Tuesday. All week, whenever Dean took some downtime in the Dean Cave or popped a squat in the library, within a few minutes Cas would be at his elbow, spreading out his supplies and casting hopeful glances his way. It's become harder and harder for Dean to pretend he doesn't know what Cas wants here. Yesterday he got so desperate, he faked a wicked migraine and slunk off for a 3-hour nap. But now here he is, cornered.
“Uhhh,” Dean replies, stalling for time. “Help you... How would that even work?”
“Well, you could assist me in choosing the accent colors, or you could take over trimming the scalloped border pieces. Or you could make your own page, if you like. I can show you how!” Cas eagerly clears a space among the mounds of stationery supplies and lays out a fresh sheet. Dean knows when he's been defeated. With a sigh, he plops down on the chair next to his boyfriend.
Cas launches into a spirited tutorial on the joys and pitfalls of assembling an attractive page. Dean tries to pay attention, but he can't help it – he tunes out almost immediately. Cas is nattering on, shuffling paper around on the table, and Dean's nodding and thinking about which cars in the motor pool are due for an oil change. He's not listening to any of it, until...
Cas hands him a sheet of cowboy hat stickers. “I thought you'd enjoy these,” he says with a smile. “Oh, and also...” Cheeseburger stickers. A rubber stamp of the Metallica logo. A 4-inch die cut of a pristine black 1967 Chevy Impala.
“Holy shit,” Dean says with wonder. “Marry me.”
Cas freezes for a few seconds, then croaks, “What?”
The words had kind of slipped out of Dean's mouth, but he means them. Cas knows him better than anyone else ever has. He's thoughtful and sweet, and he wants to share his weird hobbies with Dean, and Dean loves him so goddamn much. He plucks the die cut from Cas's limp fingers and places it reverentially on the table, then takes his boyfriend's hand.
“You're awesome, and I love you. Marry me.”
Cas grins. “Yes.”
The first page they work on together commemorates their engagement. Dean puts a cowboy hat sticker on it.

this world is so vast...
another drawing! i noticed the old pen coloring "style" i used (or lack thereof) fucking sucked ass so got rid of it so that the drawing doesnt look bad like the one from yesterday. i sure hope this looks better than the badly drawn webbed hand from my day 2
so today i discovered i fucking love using perspective more, its so cool i love it. awesome. i wanna draw more almost 3d lookin shit. because i am a lazy procrastinating ass, once again i finished this sacrificing a bit of my sleep hours. how preposterous! dont follow my example. i have to let myself have a nice rest one day... gn everybody

Old Art: Inktober 2022, part 1
I have participated in Inktober since 2019, on Twitter up until now. To breathe some life into my blog here, I'll post my work from past years over the next few days, along with my thoughts and explanations where relevant, using the more long-form format of tumblr to its advantage. Please mind this small content warning before you continue reading: Some of what I drew for this quite odd and creepy, and in at least one case (day 14), arguably gory. Keep this in mind as you read and view the art.
Day 1: Gargoyle
This one was fun. I did a poor job of making it actually look like it was perched on the wall and the wall itself was a pain, ultimately resulting in something kind of halfassed and iffy looking, but still, I had fun with it, and I think the gaping red maw looks pretty decent, all things considered. I used a grey ink--if I recall, it was Noodler's Lexington Gray--for this one, though only sparingly.
Day 2: Scurry
Some of the anatomy is screwy here, in particular the catgirl's hands are all kinds of gnarly in ways I didn't intend. Ink is unforgiving. These aren't really meant to be any characters in particular, but I was probably influenced a little by Nazrin from Touhou Project and undeniably heavily inspired by Maekawa Miku from The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls. You might immediately notice two things about this image: firstly that it is clearly more true to the color of the paper and secondly that the left edge curves away, gets blurry, and has a bit of a shadow. Day 1's drawing was simply captured by my phone camera, but I used my scanner for this one. That took time to set up (I have a bad habit of putting things on top of the machine and I have to reposition the whole thing because the USB-B cable I have is too short), so I didn't always use it. There's another scanner now, though, which I can use much more easily.
Day 3: Bat
GAHHH why did I go right back to the phone camera? Oh well. The anatomy here is really poor especially around the legs, but I tried to be a little more dynamic with the pose than I usually would be. Evidently, I didn't properly plan this from the beginning, since the torso is on a somewhat different perspective plane than it should be. Oh well, not everything works out as you'd want it.
Day 4: Scallop
I love drawing spooky little creatures. Here, we see a sea scallop, but with spindly arms and legs. This is only slightly more monstrous than what live sea scallops actually look like. Did you know they have like 200 eyes, all lined up in a row along the edge of the "mouth"? Crazy. There's also a moray eel in entirely imaginary colors here. It seems about as freaked out by the scallop creature as is appropriate.
Day 5: Flame
Dragon girl! I should really put this under the scanner someday. Overall I mostly like how this turned out, though I clearly had no clue what to do with the breasts. Probably should have grabbed some references.
Day 6: Bouquet
This time, the gnarly fingers were absolutely intentional. Here we see an elder vampire or something, perhaps some other kind of aged fantasy man, enjoying several flowers. I think they were based upon a couple specific real flowers, but I can't quite recall exactly what they were.
Day 7: Trip
This is one I'm really glad I went through the trouble to use the scanner for. There are certainly things that could have been improved, but overall, I'm still quite proud of this one. Two girls on a road trip in an Autobianchi Bianchina, stopped on the side of the road for... I dunno, looking at the scenery, I guess. I don't know if that car was ever sold in this color, but it's what color I'd want one in.
Day 8: Match
Matching outfit elves. The anatomy and basic geometry of this one was completely unsalvageable by the time I realized what was going on. Alas, at least it was properly scanned.
Day 9: Nest
Sometimes you go into a drawing with an image in your head that's too complex to hold for long and when you zoom in in your mind to look at the details, you lose it. Ultimately, though, when I look at it now, that worked out better than if I had faithfully rendered every piece of trash in the garbage heap that this giant, mechanical bird-thing has built. Seriously, this looks way better than I remember it looking. I also used the grey ink here again, I think to much better effect than with the gargoyle.
Day 10: Crabby
Crabby child, crab hat, "Feelin' Crabulous!" shirts. Not much more to say other than wow that mom character looks weird. I think I did a pretty decent job of depicting a child in the middle of a tantrum over god-knows-what here.
Day 11: Eagle
A man and his concerningly large eagle. If I recall, this was meant to depict a Haast's eagle, an extinct species from what is now New Zealand. Or at the very least it was mostly inspired by that. In other words, it's completely nonsensical for a man in a heavy coat, fur hat, and snow goggles to have one as his companion, but somehow it just felt right. I used a bunch of different colors of brown micron and even fountain pen ink for this, and I think the effect turned out well.
Day 12: Forget
Creepy creatures what take your brain out and make you forget things. The head being comically outsized compared to the rest of the body was actually intentional here--I felt the strange proportions would further bring focus to the point of the action and also just make the whole scene feel even weirder.
Day 13: Kind
More weirdo creatures. I thought it'd be fun to depict kindness between alien things rather than more easily relatable humans or animals. This color palette also happens to be enjoyable to me. This is another one featuring some fountain pen inks, but I can't recall what they were.
Day 14: Empty
Yeah, this one is pretty gross and freaky. Sorry about that. But hey, that was the idea. Mission accomplished, right? If I remember correctly, this one included Diamine Oxblood ink, to get that fleshy cavern look.
Day 15: Armadillo
Yep, it's Tarkus. As in, the album by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I guess you could consider this a gijinka? The nameplate thing bearing the day number and prompt is based on the colors of the ground in the album art.
..And that's it for now. I'll do days 16-31 tomorrow or the next day, depending on how much I can think of to write about those. If you made it this far, thanks for reading and for looking at my art.

NECKLACE by René-Jules Lalique, c. 1897–1899
He designed this powerfully evocative necklace for his second wife, Augustine-Alice Ledru, around the turn of the century. The repeats of the main motif — an attenuated female nude whose highly stylized curling hair swirls around her head and whose arms sensuously curve down to become a border enclosing enamel-and-gold swans and an oval cabochon amethyst — are separated by pendants set with fire opals mounted in swirling gold tendrils.

One day I just drew 15 sketches of characters that i#EVENTUALLY plan to line and color. Which...yeah holy shit that took FOREVER. 🎃Inktober of 2021 - Day 29: Cereal
Alright, you guys! We’re in two days left of this month Spooktacular Halloween fun. I’m looking forward to see if I’ll be bringing at least two new surprises before I can finally do on other stuff that I’m originally going for October. Nevertheless, it’ll be cool when making my upcoming Inktober posting plans next year: as long I’m promised to start off at Day 1. Anyways, here’s my latest Inktober art share that we’ll bringing close each other during almost days of Halloween. However it’s nothing but old breakfast to enjoy with 🧛♂️🍫Count Chocula and 🍓Franken Berry couldn’t hurt. Thought I wanted this part for my Inktober postings list of sorts since I’ve watched some commercials on YouTube years ago. Not only that, but also having a little crossover with my bear characters and the Jellystone! kids. You could say this takes place after Day 10 for the bears riding on a magic broomstick and for the Jellystone! version of the original Hanna-Barbera characters from previous Day 22 entry; after freeing Augie Doggie from being possessed by ghosts. For that, I can take this as an obvious answer to go with it. Though I wanted to change the color of the sky than leaving it white.
