Well, well, it's mid week, and still blazing hot down here! 🔥 Keeping cool the best way, by just staying in the river all day! 🏊‍♀️

Last weekend was brutal, pretty much kept phone off, too hot even in the shade. Hopefully this heatwave will end soon, been seeing more monsoon like clouds brewing, so with fingers crossed, a little rain would be nice (and if anybody has a rainstick, give it a shake or two 😉)

Water shortages in Ensenada, Mexico have left some residents without service for months, sparking protests and demands for change. The city, last in line for Colorado River water, is bearing the brunt of the drought ravaging the Western United States. — Ensenada has more water sources to choose from than rapidly-expanding Tijuana, also suffering from rounds of water shortages. But poor maintenance, a growing population and lackluster management of those resources means the town is devolving into prolonged water shutoffs resulting in protests and demands for change. Mexico’s federal government has taken the rare step of declaring a drought emergency for a number of Mexican states, responding to extreme water shortages primarily in the industrial state of Nuevo Leon, but also in Baja California. That move grants temporary powers to the feds to take over water supplies that would normally go to agriculture and reroute it to quench thirsty urban areas. Day 4 on the Colorado River trip. Sept 9. 2022. Been lagging on posting my trip but finally got a little break from field work to continue! Day 4 was the introduction to the Grand Canyon. We made it to the heart of the Grand Canyon not only marked by the incredible basement rock of the Vishnu Schist, a mostly black jagged and heavily fractured schist intruded all around by the pink veins of granitic rock, but by the miles of back to back white water rapids. As the canyon narrowed due to the slower rates of erosion, the rapids grew longer and more turbulent the further we traveled on the river. We ended up stopping for a hike that lead to a beautiful waterfall in which we all played under. Monsoon season really brings the most violent flash floods which was evident by the debris found along the river but also by these waterfalls up by these canyon hikes. "It's been overcast for the most part, threatening rain. But the clouds held fast and the weather was hot. Camp was wide open today and I slept on the beach overlooking the river.
