What's a tradiational Colombian Christmas dinner/meal look like? What's in it?
Depends on the household, many prepare buñuelos, a sort of fried pastry very popular in these parts, alongside rise, stuffed pork or chicken (sometimes both), a potato-based salad, tamales and bread, with desert made in the form of natilla, a traditional sweet, or quesillo, another one, also sometimes both are served.
Next day a sancocho, a traditional soup made of beef, chicken and all sorts of veggies and cooked over firewood, is also usually made.
Oh, and tons and tons of alcohol, with beer, rum, whiskey and aguardiente (a regional type of cane sugar spirit) the most common.

Asdfgk work is fun this time of the year because there's meeting with the higher-ups from the US and these guys were like "so if you can send x and then we'll meet by December 7th in the office..."
And the colombian team there like "sure thing! But that's día de velitas so we'll make some buñuelos for you guys 😉, bring something to share xoxo"

Sorta an odd question, but what kind of confectioneries do you associate with certain bendy characters? Like for some reason Grant to me gives peanut butter fudge vibes
(totally unrelated but i just realized your pfp is grant with the ink demon omg i love that)
no need to apologize! what a fun question, let me think. The most obvious one would be Sammy with Devil's Food cake. It's a chocolate that isn't overpoweringly sweet, and I think he'd like it with very minimal buttercream frosting. another obvious one is Jack and coffeecake, but also bearclaws
i associate Bendy with buñuelos. the colombian variety, specifically, which isn't actually sweet but shhhh it counts as a confectionery for my purposes. this association exists because when i made v1 of the giant Bendy plush i messed up his torso pattern so he became Orb. and it also quickly became a nickname that my family calls him
wally and peach cobbler. thomas and superman ice cream because anything superman makes me think of him because of TLO.
ill stop because i could just keep going

Jewish!Madrigals and their favorite (Jewish) holidays
Expanding on the list of headcanonons I started in this Bruno-centered post!
Alma loves lighting the Shabbat and Chanukah candles. She usually dreads doing tashlikh* on Rosh Hashanah, and cleaning before Passover, both being symbols of “letting go” (positive symbols, but hard on her emotionally). Yizkhor can be difficult for her too.
*This is where Jews symbolically cast off their sins during Rosh Hashanah. Usually bread gets thrown in a moving body of water. Yizkhor is a prayer service for remembering loved ones who have died.
Julieta loves Rosh Hashanah, a big family holiday celebrating the New Year, which includes a lot of good food. Her least favorite is probably Passover because of the food restrictions.
Pepa loves Chanukah because she enjoys lighting the menorah and singing the blessings. Her favorite character is Judith (who resurfaced as an important figure to the conversos* in the earlier centuries of the CE). She has a lot of happy memories, as well as romantic ones involving Félix.
*Spanish Jews who were forced to convert to Christianity and who may or may not have continued to practice Judaism in secret. Also, the basis for my headcanon that the Madrigals are descended from conversos and therefore have Jewish ancestry.
Bruno loves Sukkot because he gets to build a sukkah (a hut) that is partially open to the sky and stars. When Sukkot falls “late” in the year and coincides with the triplets’ birthday, they get to celebrate and eat in the sukkah together. I’m going amend what I wrote in the post linked at the top and say that Bruno doesn’t love Purim because the idea of booing/drowning out the villain’s name whenever it’s mentioned is a painful thing for him.
Isabela loves Tu Bishvat, the New Year of the trees, and organizing the Seder* for the holiday (featuring different Colombian fruits and nuts!). I imagine she also likes Shavuot quite a bit and sometimes competes with her sisters and cousins over who can remain awake the longest (you’re supposed to stay up studying all night on Shavuot eve).
*Similar idea as the Passover Seder: a ritual service "ordered” around symbolic foods on a plate.
Dolores loves Shabbat because it’s a break from a noisy world of work and creation. She gets to luxuriate in the relative quiet of the day and read side by side with her mamá and baby brother.
Luisa loves Purim for the story. She admires Esther quite a bit. She probably also likes Shavuot because the food is very dairy-centered and there are a lot of cheesy dishes in Colombia (I can’t get over the calcium helps make bones strong connection with her).
Camilo loves Purim because it’s a topsy-turvy holiday of excess and fun. He slays the costume contest every year. He also likes Chanukah and thinks the buñuelos taste extra special during this week.
Mirabel loves Shavuot, and Sukkot, because she loves the themes of inclusion. For her, the story of Ruth and Naomi, from the Book of Ruth, is a beautiful tale of loyalty and family. Yes, all three of the Madrigal sisters like Shavuot.
Antonio loves Shabbat because he gets to spend a quiet day with his big sister. He always asks about the animals in the Torah (and vehemently protests the ancient practice of animal sacrifice once he learns about it). He also enjoys hearing Tío Bruno tell the story of Passover every year.

Being Harry’s best friend would include…
Tumblr media
| headcanon |
female reader • grew up with Harry • latinabsf!
masterlist🪐
Pt. II
Requests: open!
Please note this is all made up from MY imagination. Imagine the character as anyone you want. I picture someone that’s Hispanic but it’s up to you. The events are not correct at all.
Before X-Factor…
Working at the bakery together - you were definitely the better chef between the two and teased him for it all the time
The lovely old ladies favored her over Harry
She would definitely add some of her Colombian heritage into baking : ex; menu would now include buñuelos, pan de bono, chocoramo - Spanish music would be heard from the kitchen when she was working
Being in White Eskimo with Harry. You were maybe the substitute drummer every once in a while
Going pottery painting together whenever you had free time
Making Harry watch NCIS with you as well as criminal minds and greys anatomy
Little friend picnic dates down by the lake
Talking to Gemma about fashion and or clothes
Anne absolutely adores her and teaches her how to plant flowers when she gets new one for her garden
She might have a single mother so Robin was there when she wanted to tryout for any sport helping her practice
Pulling pranks on Harry with the rest of the White Eskimo members
Begging Harry to keep his clothes on as you got older
Harry buying her chocolate when she was on her period
Never paying attention in class when they were sat together
Because of her, Harry got the final push to audition for X-Factor
She was one of the people backstage when Harry auditioned so when he was asked who he was with he definitely gushed over his best friend a bit
During One Direction…
Harry went off setting out the first album for One Direction
He definitely asked for your help when he tried writing a few songs
You called as much as you could
Harry introducing you to all the boys but mostly getting along with Zayn - talking about all the different family recipes you had to which Niall would beg you both to make for him
Bonding with Zayn over art and fashion while Harry would try embarrassing you
Helping with pranks on the boys when they were around
Being there for all the concert you possibly could attend
After finishing school, going off to study forensics and a minor in art and business
Harry showing up for your graduation along with Anne, Gemma, Robin and your mom
Being there for Harry when Robin unfortunately passed
Later on you took a break from school and went on tour with the boys, making fans believe you were dating one of the boys later on after being annoyed by news magazines
Someone in the band definitely liking you
CUDDLES !!! And taking care of H when he would get sick on tour
Paul trusting you to wake the boys up but never saying anything when you helped Harry escape from soundcheck
Dressing up in disguises when wanting to do something outside with Harry
Getting a lot of hate for being best friends with Harry so he wrote ‘Diana’ for her
‘Night Changes’ definitely had a few hints towards the toxicity between her and her mom
Attending the Brit’s as Harry’s date so he wouldn’t have to go with some “lame model who can’t hold a proper conversation” as he would’ve said
——————————————————————————
Ok it’s kind of long but feedback ?? I’d appreciate it ! Like + reblog it would mean a lot and let me know if I should do a part two !!

Heyy! this is just a small(ish) rant that I though wouldn't nesseserily relate with, but you understand and could possibly give me some advice on.
so basically, I know your Colombian and so am I (well half because of my mum). my dad is Jamaican and I was born in Jamaica, then after of a year of me being there my family and me moved to England so I was raised there. but the problem is that my family was never ever practiced my Colombian side/culture.
dont get me wrong, I love the Jamaican culture and how strong and passionate Jamaicans are, but ive always wanted to embrace my Colombian side and im looking to do that more by my self now im a little over and I can make my own decisions.
I honestly have no idea about my Colombian side and surprisingly my mum had never really claimed it. so I know NOTHING about it. I really wanna learn more about it and wanna learn Spanish but I have no idea on where to start so im seeing if you maybe have any advice for me on what to do? I LOVE YOU!!!
Uhm well, first of all, bienvenida hermana colombiana... let's see, you can start by looking for what specific place your mom is from and from there see what traditions are specific to her place of birth, because in every region of Colombia, traditions are different. But uh, I'll make a small list of festivities that we do around here in the whole country…
We have Día de Velitas, we celebrate it on December 7th and it has a religious connotation, but you don't necessarily have to be catholic to celebrate it, you just get together with your family and light candles (each candle you light can be a wish or goal for the next year), there is food such as buñuelos and natilla.
Our Independence Day is July 20, not much is done on that day, it is a holiday and usually, at least in the capital, there is a parade of military aircraft.
We celebrate Christmas on December 24, or something like that, that day we wait until midnight to open the presents and have dinner with the family.
We have Holy Week too, usually in schools and universities they give all that week as a little vacation, everything is very religious, I personally do not celebrate that week but if you do it's ok.
Oh, we also have 18 to 20 holidays throughout the year, so those days we are not going to study or work, since Colombia is the country of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, all those holidays belong to saints or martyrs. As I mentioned, I don't believe in any of that, so those days are for resting hehe.
You mentioned that you want to learn Spanish, that's great, although I warn you that it can be a bit complicated language because it has too many grammatical rules, but if you want to start, listening to music in Spanish with subtitles helps a lot, you can also use Duolingo, it's a classic and if you can afford classes or get a tutor, it would be the best, but if not, learning empirically on your own also works, that's how I learned English.
I hope this is helpful, I was a little surprised when I saw your question and I wanted to answer as best as possible, if you have more questions, do not hesitate to write me on dm.
You know friend, if you need anything, text me :D

Dog Anon. Happy Holidays!!! Here's my gift for everyone! Please know I don't know much about Colombian traditions, I tried my best, if I got anything wrong, I'm sorry (thank you Google and Google Translate)
"Feliz Navidad!!" Mirabel shouted as she ran through the streets, her dog Milagro close behind, she danced and waved to everyone she saw, spreading her endless Christmas cheer with her accordion as she played every Christmas Carol she knew. She loved going through town and seeing all the beautiful decorations, each one lit up with thousands of colored candles creating a lovely display. "Feliz Navidad Mira!" One of the kids said, giving her a buñuelo, "muchas gracias Cecilia" Mira said, popping the doughy treat in her mouth before continuing on her merry way.
As Mirabel and Milagro made their way home after celebrating in the streets, Dolores poked her head out of Casita's door "thank goodness your back" Dolores said, sounding worried "Isabella and Camilo are in the middle of an Aguinaldo, it's getting pretty intense, even Strelitzia and Nico are involved" Mirabel giggled and made her way inside, "what are they playing?" She asked, "three feet" Dolores replied, "they're at a standstill"
Mirabel stepped into the courtyard, where Isabella and Camilo were standing, glaring at each other, their dogs right beside them, they watched each other intently, neither one moving an inch. Mirabel smiled mischievously as she silently crept up behind her sister and slowly slipped her foot between her sister's feet, Dolores watching intently, "I finally win Isa" Mirabel whispered so only her sister could hear, Isabella immediately looked down and saw her sister's foot between hers "what?! You're not part of this game! No fair!" Isabella yelled, summoning a cactus while Camilo howled in laughter. Mirabel immediately ran as Isa summoned vines to try and catch her, Mirabel ducking behind Camilo, "wait, what are you doing?" Camilo asked, "you did this to yourself, don't get me involved!" but Mirabel just smiled smugly at him, which caused Camilo to look down and realize her foot was also between his, sending Isabella into her own fit of giggles,"I beat you both AND stopped your standstill, now you two can get ready for Novena and I can finally get one of mamá's special Aguinaldo arepas"
Isabella and Camilo left to get ready as Antonio raced downstairs with his dog Deigo, "Dolores, I'm ready!" He said excitedly, "now can you tell me when El Niño Dios will get here?" Dolores smiled and nodded, "he will come on the 24th Antonio, just like always" "will I be able to see him this year?" He asked, Dolores giggled at his excitement but shook her head, "no Antonio, remember, El Niño Dios has magic, he's invisible and he doesn't let anyone see him" Antonio pouted, but Mirabel laughed, he asked these questions every year, but his eyes widened again as he looked as his dog, "Deigo! This will be our first Navidad together!" The dog barked in excitement.
Abuela Alma came downstairs with Ophelia, holding the Miracle candle in her hands, "is everyone ready? It's almost time for today's Novena" Dolores held her hand up to her ear and listened, "Camilo and Isabella are still getting ready, they had an Aguinaldo, everyone else is ready to go" Abuela smiled, "I'm glad they're having fun, who won?" Mirabel smiled proudly, "they were at a standstill and neither would back down, so I beat them both!" Abuela laughed, "of course you did, Mira, congratulations" "where are we having Novena tonight?" Julieta asked, coming in from the kitchen with a basket of food, "at the Guzman's" Abuela replied, and Dolores smiled, causing Mirabel to roll her eyes.
Ophelia barked up at Abuela and gestured towards the candle, Alma's eyes widened, "oh yes, Mirabel I have a request" "what is it Abuela?" Mirabel asked, Abuela looked at the candle, "since you are the next candle holder, and to make up for what I put you through, I want you to hold the candle and lead us in our Novena prayers tonight." Mirabel's eyes went wide and her jaw dropped, "are... Are you sure Abuela?" Alma nodded, "if you don't want to do it, I understand, but I wanted to offer you the chance to lead in something small, I know realizing you were the next candle holder was a big shock to you, so I'm hoping this could help you get used to it and make the idea of leading the Encanto someday less daunting." Mirabel smiled wide and let a few tears of joy slip down her face, "thank you Abuela" she said, delicately taking the candle into her own hands, "I won't let you down."
Colombian traditions:
Colombians celebrate on the 24th instead of the 25th
El Niño Dios is who delivers presents in Colombia instead of Santa
Novena is a Christmas tradition where for the nine days leading up to Christmas, families and friends pray, eat, and sing together each day at a different home
Aguinaldos are games and challenges Colombians play at Christmas time, where they receive prizes on Christmas Eve if they win, three feet is a game where to win you put your foot in between your opponent's feet without them noticing
Happy Holidays!!!
This is super cool <33 didn't know there was so many traditions, these are all so cool! The only one I knew was the 24th instead of 25th, but even then I only learned it from a friend. ANYWAY. Isabela and Camilo being so intense. That's so real of them <33 Mirabel winning is such a W though. Girlboss 🗣🗣
Also??? Alma letting Mirabel lead the prayer??? I'm gonna cry that's so sweet. THEY'RE MY FAVORITES...RAHHHHH 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅

Christmas in Dubai: Dia De Las Velitas
The very late fic for Dia de las Velitas.
Tags: @millythegoat, @alissonbecksfan234, @moomin279
Luis Diaz had never spent Dia de las Velitas away from his family before. Even during the pandemic, he’d always found a way to fly out to his family or vice versa. So now that he was in Dubai for a training camp, there was no way that his family could come there.
He’d be alone for Dia de las Velitas. Just the thought alone was enough to instantly dampen his mood.
*
Joel Matip had enjoyed the mid-season holiday, but now he was more than happy to be back with his teammates. With all the time they spent together on a yearly basis, the Liverpudlians felt more like his brothers than teammates.
Just a couple of weeks, and they’d be all together again, after the others came back from the World Cup—preferably with a medal or two in tow. Just the thought alone was enough to instantly brighten his mood. It made him want to sing.
“Ooh, baby, do you know how I roll? Ooh baby, it’s Adventurer Joel!”
Matip strutted into the cafeteria, grinning at the smell of lunch. He found Lijnders at the pool table and pulled him into a little dance, startling the Dutchman. “Putting balls in the opponents’ goal, talk about it, Adventurer Joel! Bonking Hendo—”
“You seem happy, Joel.” Lijnders, slightly pale, gripped the pool table for balance. But he was smiling all the while. “Warm weather’s doing good things for you, huh?”
“Yep!” Matip gestured towards the cafeteria, full of chattering teammates. “Almost the whole gang’s back together! Harvey and Fabio are together, Robbo and Calvin are here, the boss is back—”
Out of nowhere, Klopp appeared, coffee mug in hand. “That I am! I was never going anywhere, Joel. But Lucho seems like he’d be anywhere but here.”
Matip scanned the cafeteria for Diaz. There he was, listlessly stirring his coffee and paying no attention to anything going on. “Don’t worry, boss. I’ll go check on Lucho.”
Klopp nodded in approval. “Good luck, Joel.”
Matip left his managers at the pool table and headed for Diaz’s table. As Matip slid into the seat in front of Diaz, he dug in his pocket for his secret weapon.
Toffees.
“Lucho! What’s going on in that head of yours?”
“Neuron signals.”
Okay, so this is going to be harder than I thought. Matip grinned, leaning close to the Colombian and pushing a toffee close to his plate. “Toffee?”
Diaz took the toffee, a small smile crossing his previously lifeless expression. “Gracias, Joel. It’s Dia de las Velitas.”
“Oh, right!” Matip remembered Diaz mentioning the holiday to him earlier that year. “Is it today?”
“Yes, it’s today. Every year I would go visit my family, or they would visit me. And we would celebrate together.” Diaz sighed, continuing to stir his surely-cold coffee. “But this year, I’m celebrating alone.”
“So you’re homesick.”
“Yes.”
“You know Lucho, if it’s okay with you…” Matip tried to think of something that could cheer up his friend. He hated seeing him like this. “I could celebrate Dia de las Velitas with you today.”
“Oh, would you?!” Every inch of Diaz, even his hair, seemed to perk up. He grabbed Matip by the shoulders, shaking him hard. “I would love that, Joel!”
“Okay, it’s settled.” Matip chuckled at Diaz’s enthusiasm. “But I can’t promise you I’ll do everything right. You can bet your socks that in Cameroon, we don’t celebrate Dia de las Velitas.”
“I couldn’t care less that you’ve never celebrated before.” Diaz pulled him into a bone-crushing hug. “I just want to begin now!”
*
“Making paper lanterns is an important part of Dia de las Velitas.” Diaz joyfully snipped away at the ends of his paper, setting aside his seventh lantern. “How’s yours coming along, Joel?”
Matip grinned sheepishly, trying to hide behind his botched lantern. “I don’t know…but would you be interested in a paper doily?”
Diaz shook his head, sprinkling a lantern with gold glitter.
*
“How are the buñuelos coming, Joel?” Diaz called from the stove. “I’m almost done frying the eight batch, so you’d better get a move on with the powdered sugar.”
He peeked around the corner to find Matip, hand dug deep in the huge basket of buñuelos. “Joel!”
“What?” Matip gulped down the fried dough, flashing a thumbs-up with his other hand. “Buñuelos are tasty.”
*
“A crucial part of Dia de las Velitas is setting up a Nativity scene!” Diaz announced, carrying a large, shallow cardboard box to the table. “We must set up a manger with Joseph and the angels, as well as the animals, shepherds and wise men. You get to do the most important part.”
Matip studied the equipment with new intrigue. “What’s that?”
“The Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus, of course!” Diaz handed the plastic figurines to Matip, affectionately patting him on the head. “Because you sacrificed your perfectly good day to hang out with me, you get the honor of setting them up.”
Matip’s eyes sparkled, and so did his teeth. “It’s an honor to spend the day with you, Lucho.”
Diaz smiled and got to work. He scattered some fake grass on the bottom of the glue-covered box, then got to work assembling the tiny manger. He was almost done, when he heard a crash from the other side of the table. Matip was in the middle of a giant pile of Barbie dolls.
“Joel Matip!” Diaz groaned, gently picking up the real Virgin Mary figurine. “What are you doing?”
Matip shrugged, picking up a black Barbie doll with huge, poofy hair. “Virgin Mary could definitely stand to get more Afrocentric.”
*
“Alright, we’ve done everything except one last thing: light the candle!” Matip held the box of matches along with a fire lighter, bouncing up and down. “Can I do it? Please, please, please?!”
“Wait, Joel!” Diaz pulled the candle away from Matip, setting it to the side. “Remember what we promised each other in April? When we made this candle together?”
“Oh, right.” Matip picked up the candle, stroking the multicolored wax. “You’ll have to lead the blessings, though, because I don’t know a single word of Spanish.”
Diaz chuckled, reaching for the candle as well. Wrapping his hands around the candle, he closed his eyes before reciting the blessing.
“Nuestro padre en el cielo. Este 7 de diciembre celebramos la Inmaculada Concepción de la Santísima Virgen María, y anticipamos la venida de Jesucristo nuestro Salvador. Gracias por la oportunidad de celebrar este día con nuestros seres queridos.”
“Wow, I have no idea what that means. But it sounds deep.” Matip gazed at the candle they held together, then looked up to the stars. “Who wrote the blessing?”
“My mother came up with it and taught it to me and my brother. It’s lovely, isn’t it?” Diaz held up a match and the matchbox. “Let’s make our wishes before we’re out here all evening. Silently, in our head.”
Quickly lighting the candle, they closed their eyes, each silently wishing. The candle burned bright in the windowsill, as if it were one of the stars itself.
Notes:
Translation of Diaz's blessing: Our Father in heaven. On this December the 7th, we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and we anticipate the coming of Jesus Christ our Savior. Thank you for the chance to celebrate this day with our loved ones.
I know Dia de las Velitas (Day of the Little Candles) is chiefly a Catholic tradition. I have no idea of what prayers are said over the candles, so feel free to DM me if I got anything wrong.

19 and 22 for the tidbit(?) headcanon meme! :3
@spxcemuses Tidbit meme
19. How does your muse sit? Do they take up space, or keep to themselves?
Luisa takes up a lot of space by default, but it depends where and with who she is sitting. In a formal/foreign setting she'll try to make herself small as possible.
Informal/with friends and/or family she just flops down on a couch. Make her remove her feet with cute socks, she dares you.
22 Is your muse a breakfast person? If yes, what do they normally eat for breakfast?
YES! Luisa never skips breakfast. Below is the breakfast she eats in the movie, excluding the glass of (orange? mango? papaya?) juice.
Tumblr media
I think what on Luisa's plate is, are:
Migas de Arepa, dish of eggs scrambled with pieces of arepa and tomato-onion sauce
Tumblr media
Buñuelos Colombian buñuelos are made with a mixture of cassava flour and cornstarch.
Tumblr media
And Empanadas! (dough or bread patty around the stuffing. The stuffing can consist of a variety of meats, vegetables, or even fruits.
