Anakin : *knocking on the door at 3am* Rex! Rex! REX! Wake up!
Rex :What's the problem, sir? Are we under attack?
Anakin : I was thinking about Obi-Wan and Cody.
Rex :...
Anakin: If they get married, Cody will be my stepmother or brother-in-law?
Rex: Did you seriously wake me up for that?
Anakin :... Obi-Wan is like a father to me but he is also a brother. Does that mean Cody is going to become my stepmother and brother-in-law at the same time?
Rex :...
Anakin : Does that mean that you and I will also be brothers? Or are you going to become my uncle?

Cody: Oh no... Rex: Cody...You killed that natborn... Cody: I-I didn't mean to! It was one punch! One! Wolffe: He hit his head on the corner of the building... Cody: They're going to decommission me... Fox: ...Heh... Rex: What the kriff, Fox!? Cody is in serious trouble! He's a murderer! Wolffe, after Fox bursts into open laughter: Are you out of your karking mind!? Cody: Give him a break, guys...He's been through a lot already. Having to turn one of his best friends in for murder probably broke him... Fox: Ka'ra, you guys are so cute! Rex: Seriously, what is wrong with you!? Fox, over his comms: We need an extra set of armor down here. I'll ping my location. Wolffe: What are you doing? Fox: Hiding the body in clone armor so we can get it to the incinerators without raising suspicion. Cody: ...You're a kriffing genius. Fox, laughing: And you're adorable. You should have seen your face! You were so scared! Rex: Why does it feel like this isn't your first time getting rid of a body? Wolffe: Or covering up a murder... Fox: Welcome to Coruscant, boys.

(Clone Wars) You Give Him Something Handmade
(Rex, Cody, Fives, ARC Echo, Wolffe, Jesse, and Hardcase)
Rex: You catch him off-guard one day and offer him a handmade gift before he ships off to another mission, and for a split second, he just stares at it in surprise. You say it's for him, though part of you is still shy/embarrassed to give it to him.His voice gets quieter, almost breaking, as he replies, "for me?" He accepts the gift and slowly turns it over in his gloved hands, basically melting on the inside.  No one's ever given him a handmade gift before. Sure, he's received souvenirs from his brothers and a gag gift or two from General Skywalker, but never something like this. He's absolutely touched. Whether it's a sewn craft, drawing, carving, anything at all... If he can, he'll keep it with him no matter what.
Cody: He's not one to get choked up over things, even though on the inside, a handmade gift from you is taken very seriously. The gesture speaks to him about the nature of your feelings, and his love grows.  He’s appreciative of having something to hold onto when he’s away on campaigns and secret missions.  When he does return to you again, he’ll most likely have made a gift for you during his time away.  Your gift meant so much to him that he hoped to give back to you so that you’d have something to treasure when he has to go again.
Fives:  If you give him something handmade, he’s absolutely going to make a big deal out of it.  He’s so impressed with you for putting it together.  He turns it over and over with a smile on his face and gives compliments.  He might give you a kiss and utter in a low voice something like, “my girl is so talented.”  He just can’t get over the fact that you made something so cool, and it’s for him.  If it’s something wearable or small enough to take with him, you can bet he’ll have it on all the time.
ARC Echo: Receiving a handmade gift from you stuns him for a moment.  He accepts the gift almost in disbelief because it was the last thing he expected when you innocently asked him what his favorite color was.  He didn’t realize you’d make something for him.  He is touched at the time, effort, and thoughtfulness you put into the gift.  He’s very encouraging in your hobbies and talents, and it would make his day to get a gift like that from you.  You can count on a darling hug and kiss from him.
Jesse:  This guy plays it a little cool at first.  He is quite appreciative and his tone does get lighter when he thanks you for doing something so sweet before he goes on another mission.  It isn’t until he’s away that it really hits him.  He finds himself taking out the craft/gift and looking at it whenever he has a free moment and thinking of you.  He notes the details and how thoughtful it was for you to take the time to make it, and just for him.  It occurs to him that he hasn’t received anything like that before, which touches him deeper.  He’ll probably comm you or send a message later about the item and thank you again, telling you just how much it means to him.
Hardcase:  He is over the moon when you surprise him with a handmade gift.  He’ll be grinning from ear-to-ear as he looks at it and marvels aloud how cool it is, how it must have taken you forever, and how thankful he is that you did it all for him.  You’d get a big bear hug for it, no matter who might be watching.  While he’s away on a mission, he won’t ever leave it behind.  It takes a lot of willpower for him not to show it off to his brothers because, you know, forbidden relationship.  He may end up breaking and showing it to his closest brothers, the ones he knows won’t snitch.
Wolffe:  He’s a grump, yes, but when you surprise him out-of-the-blue with a handmade gift right before he has to leave for a mission, he’s anything but.  He’s not really sure what to say as you stand there in suspense at his reaction.  Wolffe’s not the type to gush over things, but he wants you to know that it means a lot.  He’ll look at the item in his hand very closely before meeting your gaze again.  Unable to come up with the words, he’ll pull you into an embrace so tight that there’s no mistaking how he feels.  He’ll grunt a soft “thank you” under his breath only for you to hear.  He’ll keep it with him no matter what and spend his free moments looking at it and thinking about you.

"Don't make the same mistake twice."
Because I am fully in camp 'Clone Operative dude is someone devastating under that helmet' do not clown us all on this writers and a spiteful at condescending assholes on Reddit hopeful part of me just really wants it to somehow be (saveable) Tech so we can have a reunited-for-one-last-fight-full-Batch-back-together finale-
The narrative argument for somehow-Tech-returned:
(also see: my (much shorter) narrative contemplation for Cody)
I have a sneaking suspicion that our character development focus is going to shift from Crosshair to Hunter for the back half of the season. Crosshair feels a bit... done? He chose Omega over the easy out on Lau, he's owned up to making mistakes, embraced his place among the squad again ("much worse" than Hunter - lol), he's had his faceoff/heart-to-heart/mutual saving each other rapid progression with Howzer - yeah I imagine there are still things we're going to learn about what he went through/possible ramifications therein, but as far as accepting who he is/his place/etc I think we're winding down on his focus.
Bringing our attention to the end of ep 7 and Rex & Hunter's convo about walking away, and his convo at the end of s2 with Echo about an unwinnable fight and so on. He just wants to protect his squad but the walls are closing in, and Omega won't be content just running and hiding.
And this brings me to the end of season 1 and Crosshair's rather lacking motivational speech about why they should join the Empire finally - they're meant for more than wandering aimlessly as fugitives, etc, and he tells Hunter - "Don't make the same mistake twice."
Now in s3e5, in what felt like the galaxy's most unfinished conversation ever, Hunter tells Crosshair he has "regrets" - but what exactly are they?
Fleeing Kamino in Aftermath, presumably not.
But the number of times in season 1 when he's given the opening to revisit the whole "leaving our own behind" thing and just - doesn't? Everyone else starts in on the "wait maybe the whole thing was the chip?' convo in ep 3 and he shuts it down to focus on the crisis at hand. He later says he's mad at himself for leaving Crosshair behind, and Omega says they'll find a way to get him back and he nods but - I don't think the notion is ever revisited?
Rex emphasizes how the chips are impossible to resist.
They *see* what it does to Wrecker.
Howzer refuses to flee Ryloth with them because he won't abandon his squad - knows they're good men, hopes he can convince them that they're not doing the right thing. We get a brief contemplative look at that, and the look back at Crosshair after they flee but.
After Kamino and after Bracca, sure, maybe the risk of even trying to get to him would seem too high - but we never even get a conversation about it, about finding a way to recover Crosshair and get the chip out now that they know how to do it.
He's also the most skeptical one about the Plan 88 message even after a presumably decent chunk of time has passed, after he knows the chip is gone, after Crosshair saved Omega on Kamino.
So - thesis, please - my narrative argument for wintersoldier'ified-Tech isn't about very mean visual teases callbacks, and it's not about undoing Tech's sacrifice or carving out room for a Tech redemption arc (because we wouldn't need it) (seriously this one baffles me, what?) -
It's about Hunter getting the chance to not make the same (actual) mistake twice, writing off one of his squad as a lost cause and leaving them behind.
(I'm also still really hung up on meeting Phee on the line "Better late than dead" but that's a different conversation)
Thank you for coming to my Tech talk.

The Clone Wars 2x10 ‘The Deserter’ Reaction
Tumblr media
aka the Rex Chest Episode
The way Grievous says ‘Kenobiiiii’ will never fail to make me laugh
“Any sign of Grievous?” the gesture that goes with this is just, oh Rex
Jesse? Is that Jesse?
That little smirk from Rex. He knows that Obi-Wan wants first dibs on fighting his frenemy
Cody: “Rex is a smart man.” Obi-Wan: “Indeed. Always thinking on his feet.” Rex: *immediately gets shot*
Tumblr media
Also the little glances they exchange during this
Oof that’s gotta hurt. Sniper shot straight to the plastoid covered chest. Poor Rex lying there like a busted pretzel.
Kix, was that you?
I’m guessing the yellow clone is Crys? Why is he yellow instead of 212th gold?
Why does Obi-Wan say “We’ve picked up the scent.” straight down the barrel of the camera? What is this 4th wall break?
Hello Kix!
Jesse got the braincell today. Also Kix’s decidedly confused “Sir” to Jesse was adorable. Wookieepedia lists Jesse as a Lieutenant and with Rex down I’m assuming that means he’s in charge now.
Why are the Twi'lek’s french?
Jesse saying ma’am is sending me
Well Suu is a certified badass. Absolutely no messing with her.
REX CHEST?!
AND REX WHUMP?!!
Omg his chest and neck and that jaw and those arms and he hurts so prettily and omg I am unwell and cannot be saved help me
I’m guessing the other clone with the tattoo over his left eye is Hardcase? Hi Hardcase! Is he the one with ADHD? I love him already.
Rex flopping around like a fish out of water lmao
Oof that is a nasty bruise on his back. Also his back. And shoulders. And arms. Omg.
Kix telling Rex he outranks him lmao
Tumblr media
Rex thighs?! Rex are you wearing nothing but your lower blacks?! That look decidedly grey but anyway. Also, where is the clone bulge? We were robbed.
“You look like my daddy.” FORESHADOWING CLAXON
The way that Kix and Hardcase looked at Rex like, “is this yours?”
There was so much in that “Mmmm” from Suu lol she is so unimpressed
Tumblr media
Jesse being told he’s in command while holding a platter of fruit and nodding like a butler at Rex CACKLING
Rex, where are your nipples? Do clones not have nipples? What did the Kaminoans have against nipples? Did we seriously not get clone nipples? Were animated male nipples too much for Lucasfilm and Cartoon Network in the year of our lord 2010? Why are your nipples just slightly darker vague blotches Rex?
Omg Obi-Wan you completely and utterly over the top dramatic bitch (affectionate). Look at him all backlight by the moon looking all dark and mysterious as he hunts down his favourite arch nemesis.
REX ARMS
Jesus H Christ. My God. Just look at them. Holy fuck. SIR
Tumblr media
Also this bit with the farm animal waking him up was hilarious. His wide eyed look of alarm when it was snuffling and licking his face, poor Rex.
Tumblr media
Also, Rex Hands? They’re so big. And his fingers are so long. Oh my. Oh no. My brain has already run away with itself.
I may have paused it at the wrong moment but his forearms look hilariously weedy in comparison with the absolute bulging units that are his biceps.
I know this is supposed to be faux sinister and spooky but do all clones have such lovely beautiful long fingers?
Rex’s spidey senses activated
Cut? Sir? Daddy? Hello? Are all clones just a bulging mass of ripped muscle?
And here we have our philosophical argument for the episode
“Then our children and their children will be forced to live under an evil I can’t well imagine.” Oh no. Oh, Rex. If only you knew.
That was one awkward conversation to have at the family dinner table
Cut was at the Battle of Geonosis? Hmmm I wonder what batch that makes him and how old he is. Especially if Cody wasn’t at the Battle of Geonosis, which we found out in a previous episode.
Another awkward conversation to have while your kids and wife are just sitting there watching?
Tumblr media
Obi-Wan, you are such an overly dramatic bitch. It is hilarious. I love it. A giant Force leap off a tank with multiple somersaults ending in a superhero pose? Really? Also, that poor clone that basically fell out of the exploded tank and was dangling off a bit of it at the end.
Did that clone just shoot an incoming missile out of the air?!
Kids playing outside by themselves? This can only go well. I didn’t realise it at the time but episode 1x2 “Cut and Run” of The Bad Batch did exactly the same thing.
Oop that’s gone well.
Well Cut clearly hasn’t lost any of his skills from being a clone
Protective Dad Mode Engaged
Also, why is Protective Dad Mode always so damn hot. Hunter does the exact same thing.
Jesse, Hardcase and Kix just absolutely dismantling droids on their speeders
“Always something.” lmao
Cut punching the commando droid and immediately regretting it
So Rex is still just as deadly even with the use of only one arm.
Tumblr media
Poor Rex getting strangled by a commando droid after falling through the floor. Also Cut shooting the droid that was choking Rex was a decidedly badass moment. Thought it did remind me of when Cody basically did the same thing for Crosshair in episode 2x3 ‘The Solitary Clone’ of TBB.
Grievous, did you just try to use a tactical dramatic cape drop on the master of dramatic cape drops himself?
Lol Obi-Wan’s little reach for Grievous. Nooooo come back and fight meeeeee.
Obi-Wan is so pissed that he didn’t get to capture his favourite arch nemesis. He’s having a little sulk. Cody is probably so tired of this shit.
Tumblr media
That’s growth right there. Character development time for Rex.
Tumblr media
Naw look at Rex riding off into the sunset. Cowboy Rex anyone?

For the foelu snippets I'd like Cody and or Rex with precious toddler.
I decided to go with just Rex, hope that's okay! He's just so very dad shaped and I was sad not to have had a good place to put in some real good one-on-one time with him and the baby in the main story 😊😊
[Requests for Foelu missing scenes, future snippets, and extra vignettes are STILL OPEN. Please submit any requests you might have to my ask box. They will all eventually be cross posted on AO3 as well 🥰🥰]
~~~
“No! Bubu!”
“We're still going to go see the biffleflies, Tal'ika, you've just got to let me carry you there.”
“No! Down, Bubu!” the toddler demands, kicking her little feet in a vain but less than pleasant attempt to free herself. “Wanna walk!”
Rex sighs and stares dead ahead as his daughter continues flailing and scowling at him severely. “Kai-Tal,” he says patiently, “if you walk now, you'll be too tired to run around in the flowers.”
“No I won’!” Her complaints are starting to rise in pitch, now, and Rex sighs again as he resigns himself to having to decide whether he wants to deal with this the ‘Jedi way'—pausing this entire enterprise to discuss what she's feeling, why, and how to address it, which is a model all of her buir'e are still trying to figure out—or 17's way—giving her what she wants and letting her experience the consequences. Typically Rex prefers the former, even if he's still practicing at it. Today, though, his gut is insisting on practical application.
So he lets her down. She takes off at speed for the lifts immediately, of course, but Rex just lets her and follows along behind her at his regular pace; the odds of her managing to actually leave him behind are low, and even if she does, they are in the Temple which is the safest place in the galaxy for her to be. At worst, Obi-Wan will have to retrieve her from Master Yoda’s tonight after an impromptu tea-and-swamp-pie party.
That's where Luke usually seems to end up when the twins are in-Temple for classes, at any rate.
Kai-Tal lets him pick her up under the armpits once they get into the lift just long enough to be able to press the right button and then starts squirming again, so Rex sets her back down and fondly watches her all but vibrate in place waiting for the doors to open back up. Apparently the urge to go go go as one becomes progressively more mobile is endemic to all younglings, even jetiise.
Obi-Wan insists this was not the case with him. The créchemasters have informed Waxer and Boil that they in fact seriously considered leashing him when he first came into their care at three standard and immediately attempted to stage a breakout.
The lift lets them out into what the jetiise insist is not a dimensional pocket despite being a sprawling outside space that is contained inside one of the Temple’s obscenely large number of sub-basements, and the toddler immediately takes off at a wobbly run in the direction of the field where her favorite biffleflies can usually be found. Rex is pretty sure she'll run out of steam before she even makes it past the stables; she usually does, and then she'll insist that he stops at each occupied stall so that she can say ‘hi’ and pet them on the nose.
She might not be the most animal-inclined child in her generation of Jedi, but that's mostly because she's age-mates with Ezra Bridger, and even then it's pretty close. Not that any of them are surprised; they've all seen Obi-Wan befriend everything from a womp rat to a rancor, once.
Sure enough, Kai-Tal starts dragging her feet right on schedule (if a little longer than last time), and she starts tugging at Rex's pant leg before he can even push the stable door open. “Bubu, ‘m tired,” she mumbles, pouting up at him, and Rex is glad that these little excursions are just the two of them because it means there's no-one there to see him fold like wet flimsi.
“Alright, ad'ika,” he sighs, stooping down to scoop her up and settle her on his hip. “I thought you said you weren't gonna get tired if I let you walk, huh?”
Kai-Tal buries her face in the side of his neck, little hands fisting in the fabric of his shirt. “Don’ be mean, Bubu.”
Rex chuckles and cranes his neck to kiss the side of her head. “You've got a funny definition of ‘mean’, kiddo.”
The toddler just shrugs and snuffles into him further. “Go see bif-biffa-biffafies now?”
“Yeah, Tal'ika, we're gonna go see the biffleflies now.”
Clone Trooper Headcanons
Based off my experience with reality shifting so I guess they're not really headcanons lol I've met everyone except Omega, as the timeline is still pre-Order 66. Updated now that I've met (most of) the Bad Batch.
Tumblr media
Rex
It can be hard to get him to open up when you first meet him, but once this man decides he likes having you around, it's hard to get rid of him.
Seriously. Try putting yourself in danger and he will throw himself into the line of fire, whether you're a Jedi or not.
And after you both get out of there alive, expect a lecture from him as if he were your older brother.
I can't tell you how many lectures I've gotten from this man. He really is the older brother you never knew you wanted or even had. He always means well, though. He just worries.
Fives
This man can, and will, goof off and give you sarcastic comments.
Rex has actively said that Fives is going to be the death of him someday.
He makes it his mission to annoy Rex as much as possible, but also knows when and where to do it. If things go south, you'd think you're suddenly standing next to Cody with how fast his attitude changes.
I once had to do a double-take with how fast he switched from goofy to serious. That was not a very fun day. We scrapped a lot of clankers though.
Echo
This man just wants some peace and quiet every so often.
Don't underestimate his quietness, however. He will throw a punch at someone if he has to.
Sometimes it's Fives on the receiving end and Echo does it just for fun.
He's also fascinated with far off galaxies, especially if they're vastly different from the one he's from. It's nice to sit and read with him, too. He loves real discussions, not debates.
Update to Echo: He's still as chaotic as he was before. He's definitely loosened up a lot more, especially on regulations. He and Wrecker seem to be close since they were feeding off each other about naming the moon we crashed on.
Cody
Don't do anything that breaks protocol. Just don't. At least not around him.
He will have you neck-deep in paperwork and other assignments if he catches you.
He's loosened up a bit, but not much. Fives always reminds him to, though.
I've got nothing. I've tried, Fives has tried, even Rex has. This man loves protocol and won't be separated from it. We've joked before about him one day marrying it. That was the day I found out just how much datawork there really is in the Grand Army of the Republic. Did that stop us? Never.
Tumblr media
Tech
If someone were to show genuine interest in the information he spews, he'd be riding the high of seeing his brothers proved wrong for weeks, months even.
And this man can talk.
He would randomly spew out facts if said person was around, not even needing any cue that he was heard.
This man has tattoos. He knows what he's doing regarding them, too. He's done Hunter's tattoos, as well as Crosshair's. He can definitely talk. We spent so much time just talking about random things. I think he was happy to have someone to talk to, honestly. He doesn't randomly give out facts often, but he learns very quickly what someone is interested in and bases his randomly given facts on that. He told me that during our half a rotation's worth of time conversation we had because I asked him how he felt about randomly giving out facts.
Crosshair
Getting through to him would take a miracle. He's a hard nut to crack.
If he thinks you're useful to the team at all, he'd at least tolerate you.
Spend enough time around him and his brothers, he may even pick on you like he does with the others.
Even though he came to sit with us by the fire, that was literally as far as we got. He went right back to being a loner, but that's okay. So, he's definitely not the easiest to get along with (especially with the rocky introductions we had with each other), but it's not impossible to do it. For everything else, I have no idea yet lol
Hunter
He knows more about you than anyone around before you even open your mouth.
He could even tell whether you're Force-sensitive or not.
This man is incredible and everyone forgets just how good his senses actually are until he actively needs to use them.
I learned a lot about Hunter while on our hunting trip. This man might as well be Force sensitive with how good his senses are. During the actual hunts, we didn't need to speak, only needed to rely on our senses. He works incredibly well with Jedi. It's amazing.
Wrecker
If you even just casually mention that there's the smallest possiblity you like to blow things up, you've just gained a new best friend.
If you give him something to blow up on top of that, he won't let you sit out on it. He'd have both of you press the button at the same time.
Literally would have his finger on one half, yours on the other.
Nobody tell Wrecker that I'm planning to find and secure explosives on our next mission together that he will 100% get to use. I'm serious. No one tell him.
Bonus!
Omega
She'd probably be the first to befriend you. Let's be real.
She'd want to show you her room on the Marauder and would be excited the entire time.
She'd probably be extremely happy to know someone who doesn't see them as just clones. She'd be even happier if you became part of their little dysfunctional family, whether they see you a lot or not.
Follow me to the Grave and Rest your heart upon the Altar
Gift for flawsinthevoodoo!
(11547 words) Fandom: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - All Media Types Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Relationships: CC-1010 | Fox/Darth Maul Characters: CC-1010 | Fox, Darth Maul Additional Tags: Soulmates, ancient sith rituals that accidentlly soulbind you to someone, Enemies to Lovers, Force Shenanigans (Star Wars), escape room in the form of a sith temple, Hurt/Comfort, Uneasy Allies, Crack Treated Seriously, falling in love one trap at a time, Accidental Marriage, Ambiguous/Open Ending, Hopeful Ending
Preview:
Fox doesn’t know why he’d been sent on this mission but he’s absolutely certain it’s because someone somewhere hoped it would end up with him dead. Either from the numerous traps in this Sith temple or the fact that by the end of this nightmare he’d want to off himself. The only benefit he’s been able to find so far has been the short amount of time carved out and spent with Cody and Rex.
Short as it might have been, it’s been good to see his batchmate and the tag along.
Even though that time had the sour note of never enough as they had all been focused at first on planning ahead for this mission and then focusing on just trying to stay alive. They’d almost lost a good chunk of the 212th before they’d split into a smaller team and then they’d almost lost Rex to a trap that tried to take his head off.
It had been growing increasingly dangerous to the point that it was looking like General Kenobi was going to pull them back and out of the temple.
Until all the current bullshit happened at least.
Fox glowers at the Zabrak who lounges across the room from him, whose back is up against the grainy stone wall of the temple room they’re both now stuck in. The Zabrak who’s sneering in disgust at Fox like Fox had anything to do with their current predicament.
Like Fox purposefully dragged the fucker into the blinding light in the center of the other room. When it had been Maul tackling Fox into it. So really all the blame can be put at the Sith’s feet, but since he’s a Sith it’s obviously Fox’s fault. Even though he’d been an innocent bystander who’d shouted the warning about the light activating.
There’s a brief flash in his head of the events. Shouted warnings, Maul tackling Fox and both of them falling backwards into the light as Cody screamed out his name and Rex tried to reach him. Fox had seen General Kenobi’s hand shoot out, felt the tug of something as it tried to pull him away from Maul and the light.
It hadn’t been enough.
Now he was stuck in a room with no visible exits, only the strange writing covering the walls that made his head hurt if he looked at it too long. Stuck with a fucking Sith. Who he can’t even try to kill because, of course, nothing can be simple.
Fox had thought that the light had been an activated trap. He was right about that but it also just so happened to be so much worse than just something trying to kill him. Because Fox’s luck isn’t that fucking good for something to just put him out of his misery. No it had to turn out to be something so much worse.
A fucking ancient Sith marriage ritual that binds two souls together.
“What the fuck does that mean?” Fox asks again as he paces his side of the room because he’s still in the middle of processing the fact that he’s now possibly permanently bound to an enemy of the Republic. Which is really fucking bad considering he’s the fucking Marshal Commander of Coruscant and he has no clue if this connection allows the Sith free access to everything in Fox’s head.
Which considering the bullshit force stories he hears from his other batchmates he really wouldn’t doubt that’s what is happening right now.
Fox can feel a pull in his gut every time he gets too far away. At first a slight tug but the further he paces away to one side of the room the more it hurts. Like it’s a rubber band stretching to it’s limits. He turns on his heel and moves closer to Maul despite not wanting to be anywhere near the man.
Maul bares his teeth before he huffs, “Can you not hear Clone? It means we are bound to suffer or succeed together. Every injury one takes the other bares and we can not bring harm to one another.” It explains the mirror of bruises and cuts that covers the both of them. Why when Fox tried to stab Maul with the knife in his boot he couldn’t force himself to press more than a small red line into the others throat. Why Maul couldn’t bring himself to light the lightsaber that had been pressed to Fox’s belly.
Bad Batch episode 9 thoughts!
You fucking idiots, you didn’t even lock your spaceship?!? Take the ignition keys with you or something? How naive are you?
Oh my god is The Bad Batch seriously throwing us a Lion King? Damn me for half expecting Crosshair to appear at the top and throwing the cable back with a ‘Long live the king’ or smth
I kinda love how the squad is on the verge of falling apart. Tech may say that the squad existed before Echo, and he’s correct, but that doesn’t mean it can exist without him anymore. They already lost Crosshair, and Omega may not truly understand the significance of that because she hadn’t been with them when they were still complete, but the others do.
Also lmao, a team of single dads attempting to deal with puberty when they’ve never gone through it themselves.
I think there’s a lot of untapped conflict potential with Tech and Echo. From the moment Echo joined I have wondered what has place in the squad would be, considering they were already pretty complete before he joined. I mean of course he brings something to the group because he’s Echo and he’s awesome, but his main thing, him being half-droid, overlaps with Tech’s abilities. I wonder if Echo joining and taking over tasks that used to be Tech’s could have been cause for conflict or quiet resentment. And in that case I could see Tech’s emotional confusion because in a way Echo’s departure returns things to the way they were and as such is almost a relief, but he would feel guilty about that thought and also he would miss Echo, because he’s a squad mate now.
I love the tiny detail of Tech shaking the water out of his goggles 🖤
More untapped angst potential for Tech and Crosshair; hc that Tech never got over Crosshair’s betrayal and departure. He’s too emotionally constipated to admit it, even to himself, but he misses Crosshair terribly. Hunter has been rather cold in the whole Crosshair situation, Wrecker is the only one of the team who can genuinely move on in a healthy way, Omega never really knew him as part of their squad and Echo also didn’t know him for as long as the others, so Tech feels alone in his hurt and buries it underneath a thick layer of apathy and reasoning, as he always does, but deep down he just wants his brother back. Echo’s departure only further agitates this wound, so in self-protection he becomes even more robotic. As long as he doesn’t have to feel the pain.
Is Cid’s reluctance to help going to tie in with what the dude in the racing episode said about her being not to be trusted?
Seriously though, do I now have to pine over not only Crosshair and Cody but also Echo and Rex?
Okay but I hope that they will actually get together. I mean, Echo is not going to return to the Bad Batch anytime soon, his choice to go with Rex has been too much prepared in the season to be a temporary thing that’ll just last a few missions. But the series, other than The Clone Wars, has one team of protagonists and as such can’t jump storylines that much. To have to divide the attention between the main Batch, Crosshair (and hopefully Cody) and Rex/Echo seems a difficult feat, especially considering the amount of episodes still left in the season. But if Rex and Echo somehow meet up or even team up with Crosshair (and hopefully Cody), the attention will only have to be divided between two groups. Here’s hoping 😬
you made a post a while ago about a bad batch au where fives lives- any new thoughts on that given the newest season?
SCREECHING TY ANON I GET TO TALK ABOUT MY FAVORITE AU
this is going off of Fives' murder being faked, and Fox, Cody, and Rex being the only ones (besides the Batch) who know everything.
i mean... just imagining the first night on the Marauder after Echo's brought into the Batch. It's been years since the Domino twins have been able to sleep beside one another, since they've been able to reach out after a nightmare and feel their twin already moving to hug them.
The Batch was worried about not having enough bunks, but Fives and Echo were a tangled mass of limbs and passed out on Fives' bunk before they could say anything, so that solved that issue.
(seriously though, imagine not having the other half of your soul next to you for years, and then you get them back after you've both been traumatized to hell and back? the twins aren't letting go of each other any time soon)
i think the training exercise that the Batch does in episode one of the first season would 100% bring up some very not great memories for Fives and Echo, both of training with Domino, and the day at the citadel. While they obviously trust the Batch, there's still certain things they keep within their little bubble, so the Batch doesn't really comment about how glued to each other's sides the twins are after everything.
Fives remembers Omega from when he and Tup were on Kamino, and she remembers him. It's not until they're on board the Marauder leaving Kamino that Omega hurls herself at him, latching onto the Arc and hugging him as tightly as she possibly can. Fives can't resist hugging her back, and they're attached at the hip after that.
Fives also would (as I've said before) want nothing more than to help Crosshair, because he knows what it's like, and while the current season 2 doesn't exactly support this scenario, i can never get the thought out of my mind of Fives and Echo sitting down on the landing platform on Kamino, Crosshair between them, and the three of them just sitting in silence. After an hour of waiting, Hunter steps out of the Marauder, and he sees Crosshair laughing at a story Fives is telling about Hevy, Echo's arm around his shoulder.
so moving into the canon season 2, Echo and Fives are absolutely in the same mindset that they could be doing more.
Everyone still things Fives has died. the clones heard the whispers of the 501st soldier who was killed for asking questions.
Fives hearing that more of his brothers are dying, dying for the same reason he nearly did? He'd jump at the chance to help Rex save them, and Echo would too.
the reunion with Cody is honestly all I can think about, just Cody running through the underbelly of Coruscant, tailed by one of the assassins, and as he ducks into a shadowy alley, the assassin is stunned, and Cody's pretty sure he's seeing ghosts as Rex and Fives and Echo step out of the darkness, and all his adrenaline just leaves him as he collapses, but Rex and the twins are at his side, pulling him into a hug, and the four of them are reunited, and Rex and Cody can't help but breath sighs of relief because they're okay, their twins are okay, and they can help the rest of their brothers.
Clone Wars family dinner🧍💨
I've had this in my google docs for a year and decided to share it with the world. Don't take this too seriously, my best friend and I started talking about family dinner because we were sad seeing so many clones dying in clone wars that we joked they were meeting offscreen for family dinner. Tbh this is mostly just a test to see if my posts will show up in tags so yea
I'm open to writing about more characters if anyone wants to request (even if they're not from the same time period because tbh who cares about the timeline?), however, I may not be able to do some if I don't know enough about their personality :]
Family dinner starts every night at 6
Commander Cody: Sits at the head of the table, is essentially the patriarch of the family. He can’t cook for shit, he shows up at dinner like 5 minutes before it starts. He doesn’t even set the table. He’s like the dad who works and then arrives complaining about work. If his family tries to get him to do more he tells them he’s too tired from work. Cody places yellow whoopie cushions on Rex’s seat and makes no attempt to hide them or conceal he’s the one who’s doing it.
Obi-Wan: Like Cody, shows up 5 minutes before it starts. He does, however, try to help set the table or bring food out (but it never really matters, everything is already set so he doesn’t do anything). Rex suspects he comes late on purpose but can never prove anything. Sits next to Cody and usually carpools (speederpools?) with him. Lowkey an expert wine taster and can find “hints of orange root” or some pretentious shit.
Fives: Can grill a mean hamburger, in fact any time something needs to be grilled he’s the one to do it. Since he doesn’t really cook other than grilling, he only needs to help during the summer months. He always arrives with his twin, Echo (and Echo arrives very very early), so he spends his free time fucking with his brothers. Would probably mess with the way the table’s set up just to annoy Echo and instigate a fight during family dinner.
Echo: Bakes dessert for every family dinner. Echo shows up at 4 exactly to bake, sometimes even earlier if he’s making something big. He’s also the one who sets the table for everyone. Each seat has a table mat that’s personalized for each person, as well as a set of silverware in a very specific order. Fives likes to switch the fork and knife because he knows only Echo cares. Only lets specific people decorate his deserts (a.k.a. anyone but Fives - once he wrote “Echo sux” on his cake. Echo has still not forgiven him)
Rex: Older brother energy, tries to control Hardcase and Fives as best he can. Always comes early because if he doesn’t Fives and Echo will destroy the kitchen. He doesn’t know how to cook but is trying to learn, is good at making soup or putting things in the oven without burning them. He sits on Cody’s whoopie cushions on Cody’s birthday to humour him. If he’s tired enough, he’s not opposed to just watch from a corner as the family dinner devolves into chaos. Frequents mommy blogger websites and gets excited when it’s fall because of pumpkin spice. His brothers don’t have the heart to tell him they don’t know what pumpkin is.
Tup: Cooks bomb ass food, literally the saving grace of family dinner. Always calm and collected, even if Echo, Fives, Hardcase, Ahsoka, or Jesse are trying his patience. Likes to make stir fry, it’s his specialty. Will be upset if someone doesn’t like his food, but Fives and Jesse glare aggressively at anyone who speaks out. Is usually the one who babysits Ahsoka when she’s in the kitchen, making sure she doesn’t hurt herself trying to cut tomatoes or something.
Jesse: Essentially Tup’s sous chef, but make him drunk off his ass. Can polish off a whole bottle of wine before family dinner even starts. Still makes good food, though, even if he’s blackout drunk. In fact, the food quality seems to rise if he’s blackout drunk. It’s actually kind of scary. While intoxicated, he can keep up with Hardcase’s energy so he usually ends up watching over him (honestly, nobody at dinner can tell who’s taking care of who, but their chaotic energies seem to cancel out so it’s okay).
Wolffe: An infrequent visitor. For some reason, the only thing he knows how to cook is meat. If they’re having something where the protein is separate he’s always the one to make it. For example, smoked salmon or marinated baked chicken. He is also the one who carves turkey or rotisserie chicken. Can detect minute changes in the moisture of a roast and tell the quality of a meat just by tasting it. His brothers are kind of scared of his weird skills, but never say anything in fear he might fillet them in their sleep.
Ahsoka: Brings her wife to the family dinner. She and her wife don’t know how to cook, so they make the salads for the group. (Who is her wife? I don’t know but she has one) Ahsoka probably holds a knife like she holds her lightsabers. Tup and Rex always have to stop her from cutting food like that because she usually comes close to cutting her fingers off. Will not hesitate to flick peas across the table at Cody or Obi-Wan with her spoon.
Kix: Never knows the family dinner is happening. Arrives 20 minutes late every time and asks why nobody told him they were having a family dinner that night, even though it happens every night. Literally has to be taken out of work and driven over by one of his brothers if they want him to be on time. Brings a tupperware with old pasta salad every single time (nobody knows why he has so much pasta salad, why it’s always stale, or where he gets it from).
Hardcase: Very impatient, especially with anything concerning heat. He will either take the food out too soon so it’s cold or leave it too long so it’s burnt. He is, however, good at chopping things (though nobody trusts him to not accidentally kill himself). When he cuts vegetables, fruits, or meats he always has a chaperone. If his knife skills aren’t needed he likes to chat with Fives or bother Jesse, Tup, or Echo. He plays footsies with Jesse under the table during dinner. When decorating his tablemat he covered it in glitter; Tup had to sneak into the Commanding Officer’s lounge so he could laminate it (glitter was getting into everyone’s food somehow).
Fox: Has to be picked up and physically taken out of work to come to family dinner. If there’s no caf ready for him when he arrives, he’s leaving. Miraculously, has never gotten into a fight at family dinner. In fact, when provoked he usually does nothing and allows the chaos to ensue around him (though occasionally, he will subtly instigate fights for the hell of it). Unlike Rex, he is always tired enough to not give a crap about the fights, and sits back to watch Fives and Echo fight about the placement of silverware.
Plo Koon: Another infrequent visitor. He usually becomes the mediator of arguments, whether he agreed to be or not. When he visits, everyone is usually on their best behaviour. He exudes understanding-father-figure energy and is invited to sit at the head of the table opposite of Cody. Will bring home-baked dinner rolls (and occasionally comes early to bake with Echo).
Kit Fisto: Visits occasionally, usually with Plo Koon. Very relaxed when he comes and drinks a glass of wine with Obi-Wan and Jesse. He usually tries to keep out of any arguments or tiffs between the clones, but, like Plo Koon, he always ends up trying to calm down a fiery debate (which usually doesn’t work). Like Rex, will step back and watch chaos ensue if he’s tired enough.
Side note: Me and my friend were discussing family dinner and agreed that Fives looks like he'd grill while Echo looks like he'd bake, then in the same week, I saw someone posting about the same exact topic! It was a year ago so I don't remember who they were, but we're all literally on the same wavelength
Thoughts on Commander Cody?
I HAVE LOTS OF THOUGHTS ON COMMANDER CODY.
HE WAS THE ONLY OTHER ONE OUT OF OUR LITTLE GAR GROUP (CONSISTING OF MYSELF, MY APPRENTICE AT THE TIME, KENOBI, CAPTAIN REX AND OF COURSE, THE FAIR COMMANDER), TO ENTER SERVICE INTO THE EMPIRE.
I NEVER KNEW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM AFTER THE EMPIRE ROSE, BUT I WOULD HAVE THOUGHTS (I WOULD, AT THE TIME, HAVE CALLED THEM DISTRACTIONS, AS THE MURDEROUSLY RAGEFUL WOULD, BUT I STILL HAD THEM).
HE WOULD BE CALLED A "GENTLEMEN AND AN OFFICER", MUCH LIKE HIS GENERAL WAS, HE DID NOT NEED THE RULE BOOK BECAUSE HIS HONOR, INTEGRITY AND COMMITMENT ALREADY LIVED AND BREATHED THE RULE BOOK.
( I CANNOT IMAGINE HE LIKED ME MUCH BACK THEN. HE CERTAINLY WOULD NOT NOW. )
NO OFFENSE TO MY CAPTAIN. CAPTAIN REX IS HONEST, UPRIGHT AND BY THE BOOK--AS LAWFUL GOOD AS THEY COME--AND CODY OFTEN MADE HIM SEEM LIKE A DANGEROUS MAVERICK THROUGH ATTITUDES ALONE.
( SO WAS I, COMPARED TO KENOBI, BUT I ACTUALLY WAS A DANGEROUS MAVERICK. )
EVEN THOUGH, LIKE HIS GENERAL, HE WOULD BE POLITE, DIPLOMATIC, PERSONABLE AND STILL PULL SOME OF THE MOST DANGEROUSLY RIDICULOUS STUFF WITH A LEVEL OF CALM AND SERIOUSNESS, THAT YOU HALF THOUGHT HE MUST BE INSANE UNDER HIS BUCKET.
( THERE IS A GOOD REASON THAT COMMANDER CODY STARTED HIS CAREER WITH SCARS, AND ALL REX EVER DID WAS SHAVE HIS HEAD FOR FEAR OF BLOND )
AN INSANE COMBATANT (WHO PUNCHES DROIDS!? THEY ARE MADE OF METAL AND DEATH), AN OFFICER'S OFFICER, BORN TO COMMAND AND FACE EVERY DANGER THE GALAXY HAS EVER KNOWN AND PROBABLY A FEW IT DOES NOT.
PART OF HIS HONOR AND HIS CODE (HA-HA, OF COURSE HE IS CALLED COD-EE) IS A DEEP SUPPORT AND LOVE FOR ALL HIS BROTHERS, IN SPITE OF THE PROFESSIONAL FRONT HE HAS, AND A MAJOR TENDENCY TO ADOPT SHINIES, ANY SHINIES, ALL SHINIES.
( ESPECIALLY ODD ONES OUT, SUCH AS BLOND CADETS WHO BITE HIS OLDER BROTHERS DURING KING-OF-THE-HILL AND CAPTURE-THE-FLAG TRAINING GAMES. IT WAS ADOPTION AT FIRST SIGHT. )
( I QUITE IMAGINE HIS FIRST MEETING WITH CLONE FORCE 99 HAD SIMILAR PERCUSSIONS. THEY DID NOT STAND A CHANCE--THEY WERE CODY'S NEW LITTLE BROTHERS NOW, AND THIS WAS IMMUTABLE )
I USED TO THINK THAT HE HAD IT PERFECT--HE COULD BALANCE THE LOVE OF BROTHERHOOD WITH THE WEIGHT OF WAR. BUT AFTER YEARS OF SERVICE MYSELF, I KNOW THAT THAT IS AN IMPOSSIBILITY. YOU WILL NEVER GET SUCH A THING RIGHT--BECAUSE THERE IS NO BALANCE IN WAR. THERE IS ONLY SACRIFICE.
AND THE HELL HE MUST HAVE GONE THROUGH, KNOWING HE WAS SACRIFICING KIN AT EVERY CAMPAIGN, AND EVEN HIS ADOPTEES, IS UNIMAGINABLE.
... SO.
I HEAR TELL THAT HIS NAME IS ACTUALLY REPUBLICIZED MANDO'A, FROM THE WORD "KOT" OR "KOTE" MEANING "STRENGTH" OR "GLORY".
( EVEN HIS NAME IS DIPLOMATIC--I DO NOT MIND OLD MANDO'A, BUT THE MANDOLORIANS AND THE JEDI HAVE A LONG HISTORY (THOUSANDS OF YEARS) OF SLAUGHTERING ONE ANOTHER AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY--THE COUNCIL WOULD HAVE... ISSUES WITH A HIGH COMMANDER OF THE GAR, SON OF A MANODLORIAN MERCENARY, WHO WOULD HAVE WILLINGLY TAKEN THE NAME OF A WORD THAT WAS OFTEN USED RIGHT BEFORE KILLING JEDI. )
( REPUBLICIZED, THE NAME SIMPLY MEANS "HELPFUL", OR IS OFTEN A FUN LITTLE PUN ON THE WORD "CODE". )
HELPFUL CODE, STRENGTH AND GLORIOUS SLAUGHTER.
A PERFECT OFFICER FOR THE CODA OF JEDI AND REPUBLIC, A GOOD SOLDIER WHO WOULD FOLLOW ANY ORDER, EVEN IF THAT ORDER WOULD HAVE HIM TURN HIS BLASTER UPON HIS FRIEND AND GENERAL WHEN HE NEEDED HIM MOST.
HOW... INSIDIOUS.
SUCH IS THE NATURE OF THESE WAR GAMES.
... I NEVER FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM, AFTER THE CRESCENDO OF ALL THINGS. I WILL HAVE TO CARRY THAT REGRET.
We’re halfway through the episodes now, so guess what i’m dOING IT AGAIN WOOOOOO
UPDATED BAD BATCH EPISODE PREDICTIONS LETS GOOOOO
(there will def be spoilers for eps 1-8 in here, just so yknow!)
Tumblr media
Ep9: The Crossing ok, im still SUPER confident this has to do with Crosshair, like COME ON!! Like the “crossing” could refer to both a physical chasm or something someone has to cross AND Crosshair trying to figure out what he wants to do now, where he stands with the empire and all that, potentially crossing over to one side or another :D
But now I’m thinking one of two things, either:
Crosshair runs into the bad batch and is clearly starting to struggle with his decision to join the empire. Like i feel like with Cody going AWOL (wheRE IS HE), Crosshair might be starting to realize that the empire isn’t helping him at all. They don’t care about him, they’re not going to support him if he ever stops being useful, and i’m hoping he might start to sort of swallow his pride and finally decide, fine, he’ll go with the batch. (And if he does run into the batch, maybe he’ll mention Echo?? Like hey where’s the reg? Mayhaps he will care just a teeny tiny bit? as a treat pls mr filoni i’m begging)
OR, he’ll run in to Rex and Echo. I don’t care if it’s from their perspective or his, but oh my GOD I WOULD LOVE THAT. It would be a great way to show what Echo and Rex are doing!!! Maybe Cross would mess with them and try to guilt Echo, like “you left them” or maybe “they finally got rid of you” (starting to get fanfic ideas hold on), but i just think it would be so fun to see these three together, especially now that Echo will pretty much be actively fighting against Crosshair
Or it’s just an exclusively Crosshair episode where he’s seriously starting to consider what’s wrong with the Empire. That would be fine too. (or maybe it’s not crosshair at all and filoni is a COWARD)
Ep10: Retrieval i’ve seen a couple theories abt this one, some people think Echo might be coming back here (i’m not too sure abt that one), beforehand i thought the batch might be retrieving Crosshair, and now i’m not too sure what i think. It could be a more filler-y episode with the batch going on another mission for Cid, but i have a couple hopeful ideas for this too:
First, i think it could easily be the bad batch getting news of some important thing they need to, well, retrieve, and then it turns out to be something unexpected. Maybe they thought it was just data and it turns out to be a person, maybe they were retrieving one thing until something/someone gets lost and now they’re retrieving that, idk! could be pretty cute :)
Or!! Maybe!! It could be Echo and Rex “retrieving” a brother!!! Maybe they find out Cody went AWOL and go to find him (which opens up a WHOLE other can of worms when we think of Rex in Rebels SO I SIMPLY WILL NOT THINK), maybe they’re doing stuff, fighting the Empire as you do and they learn about someone else, like Wolffe or Fox, and they head in to get them?
Ep11: Metamorphosis i really do think this one of mostly about one or a couple people starting to think about things differently/change their mind on something. Crosshair might start thinking about the Empire differently, Hunter might start learning to trust Omega more, especially around semi-strangers like Phee, or Omega might start pushing back against Hunter more? I mean, in ep8 we see her with Riyo telling the kaminoan lady how she’s angry, she wants to stand up to the Empire. And when Palpatine twists what they tried to do, she’s upset again; we’ve just seen lots of occasions where she agreed with Echo in wanting to do more, and I think this episode might dig into that, which would be super cool to see!
Ep12: The Outpost ok. now that Echo left with Rex, i think it gives a bit more credit to my thought that this “outpost” is one of the rebel cells Rex is working with. like that just fits to me, and the spacing of this episode with the others feels like a good spot for a Rex and Echo episode (if we’re even getting one plEASE FILONI I AM BEGGINGGG). Or it could be some sort of hideout, maybe an Empire outpost they (or the batch honestly) discover and have to figure out what to do about it.
Ep13: Pabu agAIN, IS THAT A GUY OR???? I have genuinely no clue what this one is, that’s either a planet name, a persons name, or… yeah idk but it feels like a name to me and that’s all i got
Ep14: Tipping Point well now that sounds ominous. Couple ideas:
Crosshair finally decides he’s either had enough of the empire and is rejoining the batch, or he’s had enough of letting the batch hide and he’s going to expose to the empire that their still alive (pLS NO)
The Empire becomes just impossible for the batch to hide from, Omega wants to fight back, and Hunter finally caves because there’s not much else he can do
Something horrible happens that lands Rex where we see him in Rebels. Now I know everybody thinks that’s Echo dying (nO), BUT HEAR ME OUT: What if they’re trying to do the right thing, and they go on a mission, but everything just goes so so wrong and Rex decides he can’t do it anymore :/ Maybe they end up getting another brother killed (or multiple) and when Rex decides to stop, Echo decides to go back to the bad batch, AND SURE IT WOULD BE SAD AT FIRST CAUSE HE’D BE SUPER DISCOURAGED BUT LIKE,,, MAYBE THEY’LL JUST GO LIVE ON A SWEET LITTLE PLANET WITHBOMEGA AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FINEEEEEEEE (deny dissociate daydream am i right 🫠)
Ep15: The Summit and Ep16: Plan 99 i have straight up no clue. Plan 99 REALLY sounds like something the batch would all need to be there for (COUGH COUGH CROSSHAIR AND ECHO), but the summit?? yeah i got nothing
ANYWAY, this was super fun to go through again and I’d love to hear anyone else’s predictions!! (please please distract me from the horrors my swEET BOY ECHO IS GONE AAAAA)
I really enjoyed your commander thorn hcs and exploration of his character and I was wondering if you could do the same with commander cody? He's not underrated obviously but his character in fanon seems to boiled down to NSFW and codywan(which I'm not looking for a fight or scorning, it's just repetitive). And Canon cody is just labeled as by the book, loyal, brilliant tactician and cares greatly for his vod. Which is great and more info his character gets than other clones but it's not enough to actually give him depth as a character. I believe I've gone on way too long with this and I apologize for that 😅 I humbly ask for commander cody hcs when you get the chance and I sincerely hope you have a lovely day. Thank you💙
Thanks for this request! I agree that while we get more of Cody in canon than almost any other clone, it does still seem to be narrowed down to just a few "key points" and that's it. I'm hopeful we'll get more canon insight to his character with his upcoming appearance in TBB Season 2, but in the meantime, here's my take on him...
I don't think Cody is quite as "by the book" as we think... Sure, he scoffs at Anakin and Rex's more free-spirited approach to things. He probably wouldn't have come up with all the "roger roger" droid impersonation stuff on Rishi Moon. But I don't think that makes him like Dogma where he's all about protocols and orthodox procedures.
Cody has scars. He round-house kicks machines. He trusts plans made by subordinates. He openly rolls his eyes at the Jedi.
At the end of the day, I think Cody is all about duty. Not rules, not the Republic, not power... He takes his role as a leader very seriously and will do whatever it takes to uphold it in a noble and fearless way.
So if that means he has to fight a little dirty sometimes, or act a little sassy, or defer to someone else's better judgement... then he will.
He is as humble as he is brave; as creative as he is tenacious.
Whatever gets the job done. Whatever fulfills his duty.
And he carries this attitude with him wherever he goes, on or off the battlefield.
In his personal life, he doesn't mind sharing a few drinks with friends, or sleeping in on a weekend, or turning off his comm link for an hour or two of peace.
He's also not afraid to crack a few jokes, if they come to him, regardless who the audience is. Funny things are funny. Why not laugh about it?
He's not anal-retentive. He's not a work-a-holic. He can appreciate a nice day off or a bit of fun.
But he isn't careless or reckless. He's not immature or foolish. He has a good head on his shoulders and no amount of carefree fun will take away his common sense.
So if one of his vod is getting a little too tipsy for his own good, Cody will quietly signal to the bartender to cut him off. He'll make sure the clone gets home safely. And he won't speak a word about it afterward.
If a distressed neighbor comes to him for help in the middle of the night, he won't complain, he'll do what he can. But he'll also tactfully set some boundaries so the person doesn't take advantage, and so he doesn't get too involved emotionally when he doesn't need to.
That's why he and Rex get along so well. They aren't so different at the end of the day, not in the way their Jedi Masters are.
And that's why he was involved with The Bad Batch before any other Commander or Captain were even aware of their existence. He recognized their usefulness and supported their unconventional methods. And perhaps even mentored them a bit.
Deep down, Cody craves a simple life. But he is also smart enough to know you have to work for it/earn it.
He truly believes he is putting in the time to earn his peace. Whether it's a relaxing R&R between missions, or a care-free future after the war is over.
Order-66 obviously complicates that belief. And while I doubt TBB will dive that deep into it, I do think Cody will have some conflicting emotions to wrestle with as he is forced to rethink his true obligations...
My new TBB theories
I've been thinking since the premiere, and some of my predictions for this season have turned out to be false. When I made those guesses, I was counting on the footage we saw in the trailers was from the entire season. Now that I know that's probably not true (most likely it's only about the first half of the season) and with what has happened in the first episodes (plus seeing different theories by the fandom), I'm forming a new theory or 2 on my own.
It started having just Crosshair in mind, but now it could be Cody instead. I know some fans are worried that Rampart lied to Crosshair, that Cody didn't go AWOL; it's just that Rampart executed him. I don't believe that at all, even if the new Imperial governor of Desix reported him for not following orders. It'd be the worst decision to kill off a fan favorite like Cody off-screen. Doing that onscreen, that it is possible, but not off-screen. I mean, Wilco got killed onscreen, and Cody didn't? Seriously? That makes any sense? No. So, chill, people, chill.
That's not me saying you shouldn't worry about Cody. I don't think he's dead, but Rampart might've arrested him for not following orders. It'd make more sense than killing him. I mean, I considered the place they are and who Cody is. Wilco was just (Not just, but you know what I mean) a captain stationed in a backwater planet, killed with little to no witnesses. Cody is in Coruscant AND he's a kriffing Marshall Commander. I'm not saying Rampart couldn't have done it, but it would be more complicated. More datawork for him to do afterward sort of speak. Datawork that brings attention to him that he doesn't want at the moment, I might add.
Besides, Rampart might think that Cody is another source of info to find the batch. Think about it. Cody requested to work with Crosshair first thing after he was medically cleared. Rampart must know Cody worked with the batch several times in the past. So, if Crosshair is helping the batch (or that's what Rampart thinks) he might use Cody to set up a trap, for Crosshair? For the batch? This theory by @feltpool is dark and put Cody actually "willingly" following orders from Rampart. It's interesting, but I don't think Cody would rat Crosshair out in the end (maybe that's why he got arrested). Not to mention that after watching the last scene with Crosshair asking about Cody and Rampart pretending not to know Cody's name just to gauge Crosshair's reaction (because that's why he did it), I'm pretty sure that it's both a way to psychologically torture Crosshair and exert control over him, and see What Crosshair does.
Because Rampart is well aware that the batch is a thorn in his side, one that needs to take out soon before they pop up again, and Tarkin finds out Rampart karked things up. If Rampart truly believes that Crosshair has anything to do with deserting clones (because it's not only CF99 being alive and possibly Cody defecting, it's also Howzer and half of his unit. Remember them? There IS a pattern), I'm sure he wants to wipe them all out in just one strike.
So, Cody's hypothetical arrest could be what urges the batch to go to Coruscant. Before the season started, I thought they'd go on the season finale. Now, I believe it could be by the mid-season.
Picture this: Rex contacts the batch for a job (as seen on the trailer), because he has heard about clones going AWOL, and he wants to find them. So they need to access information, but they only can do that directly from the source, so they go to the ship/facility/whatever and among the info they gather is Cody's location. So, they'll try to break him and other clones out.
Which brings me to the second theory (it's not mine, but I like it a lot) that all those deserting clones, including the batch of course, will do an uprising. I'm thinking that we could see the inception of it on the season finale. I mean, episode 2×15 is called "The Gathering". It could mean all the free clones coming together to execute "Plan 99", which is the title of 2×16. At first, I thought Plan 99 was a rescue plan, as in (finally) rescuing Crosshair (which still could be). But it could also mean Revolution.
Most likely, I'll be wrong about this (like I've been before; my initial predictions for the season are the proof of it), but maybe I get right one or 2 things. Maybe I'm not so off after all.
