Arriving for a business meeting to a dance club owned by the most powerful man in the city, Dandelion is surprised to met at the door to the apartments above the club by a wanted terrorist in a borrowed silk robe.

He does not allow himself more than a moment's distraction in the bustle of the dance floor.

It's karaoke night, the tone-deaf wail of a tipsy queen in a feather boa pushing whines of feedback through the speakers as the crowd whoops and applauds. 

He could have taken the stairs past the alleyway out front and bypassed all the noise and color of the club to ring the buzzer at the security grate upstairs. 

But this way, no one thinks twice about seeing him there. He's in his element, a common sight in the club even when he's not here on business. No one wonders what message is being delivered to the man who lives upstairs. 

Dandelion kisses the offered hand of a drag queen, apologizing profusely as he turns down a drink, and then he climbs the stairs to the shadowy VIP lounge.

It's empty, not a soul occupying the plush couch or sleek bar.

Often, he meets Sigismund Dijkstra here, where they might talk through details for hours, the immense man never showing a sign of drunkenness despite the ever-present glass of scotch gripped in one big hand.

A quiet tension hangs over the city of Novigrad, over all of Redania.

Dandelion rarely understands the full context of the messages he delivers, often in code picked up by other contacts that cannot get close to Dijkstra without arousing suspicion, but he knows that something may be put in motion soon.

Something he wants no part of, but it's too late now.

A bouncer motions upward with a jerk of his chin. 

At the door beyond the lounge, he shakes off the glitter, tries to kiss the hand of the bouncer as well and earns a stern glare for his trouble.

A spiral stairwell curves upward, and at the top, Dandelion knocks at a black door. He itches to go back down the stairs and join the evening revellers. He hopes this meeting is brief and simple.

Those hopes are immediately dashed, when it's not Dijkstra who opens the door, but an elf in a patterened, silk robe. 

"Ah," says Dandelion, seeing that the elf is barefoot, robe clutched closed at the front rather than tied and far too large for the slim frame, slipping off one shoulder. "Sorry to interrupt, I can come back–"

"Get in here," says the elf, his voice a cold rasp. "You were meant to arrive an hour ago."

"I thought I had a tail," Dandelion explains, "so I went a few stops beyond the usual but of course, forgot about the construction that way and–"

When he hurries inside and up the stairs into the tastefully-decorated vestibule, the light warms across the high ceilings, and for the first time, he sees the scarred horror of the elf's disfigured face.

"Oh," he breathes, recognizing him at once. From somber news bulletins of deadly terrorists. "You're–"

"Faoiltiarna," says the elf, disarming smile twisting his ugly scars.

For a moment as Dandelion follows meekly after him, he almost forgets the details that had made him assume the elf was here for something far from business.

Almost forgets.

Faoiltiarna's bare neck is bruised with love bites. His loose hair is atypical of elves, mussed as though big hands have been running through it.

A smarter man would leave some mysteries lie. Though even a fool could guess what his arrival had interrupted.

It's curious.

In all the time he's known the man, even before hard times pressed him into doing this work for his old friend, Dandelion has never known Dijkstra to have casual affairs. Or serious ones, besides whatever strange and messy entanglement had gone on between him and Philippa Eilhart.

"Did you have a meeting with Dijkstra as well?" he asks, pretending at foolishness. 

"You could say that," says Faoiltiarna as he lets him into a fire-warmed study. "He'll be right with you. Don't snoop."

Dandelion snoops through the cluttered mahogany bookcases and feels up every bronze statue and light fixture for hidden passageways. He finds only that a lot of Dijkstra's knickknacks are in need of a dusting and that he has a very boring collection of almanacs, probably bought just to fill the ample shelves.

"You're late," grumbles a deep voice from a hidden doorway beyond a revolving staircase, and Dandelion curses. Sigismund Dijkstra is as huge and impressive as always, seeming far too large for the room and the expensive-looking leather armchair he sinks into. 

He's dressed in his usual loose linen houseclothes, open collar baring the gold chain that sits amidst the dark hair at his breastbone. He shows no sign of disgruntlement over the interruption of whatever lusty affair he'd clearly been up to with Faoiltiarna. Something impromptu, Dandelion suspects. He'd had to compose himself before answering the door. Highly out of character. Strange. 

Dijkstra has his big, meaty fingers in all sorts of unseemly layers of the city's underground, but non-human liberation? Collusion with the anarchist Scoia'tael? He's never shown any inclination to care about their efforts.

A smarter man would fail to address it.

"I can come back later," says Dandelion loudly. "If you and Faoiltiarna wish to–"

"Who?" asks Dijkstra as he sits back and lights a cigar in quick puffs. A blue haze of cigar smoke hangs around him and plumes to the dark ceiling. He does not offer a cigar to Dandelion and also does not move to pour him a glass of scotch from the carafe at his elbow.

"I suppose I should be flattered," Dandelion continues. "You must trust me more than I thought. Colluding with terrorists now, Sigi? If that's what they're calling it these days. Colluding all over this apartment, I assume."

"I trust that you're an imbecile," says Dijkstra slowly. "No one would believe you. You could call the authorities the moment you left here, and there'd not be a single sign of anyone's presence but my own."

"Anyone could have opened the door and seen–"

"But no one did. To business, Dandelion."

He gets to business. The small scraps of coded information he passes on seem hardly worth the trouble, but Dijkstra looks pleased as they chat. As pleased as the large man ever does.

To Dandelion's surprise, Faoiltiarna joins them after a while, looking far more imposing dressed in black with dark hair slicked into a long plait. He has the willowy figure typical of elves, tall and lithe, and maybe would have been a beauty if not for the ruined scowl of his face.

What a strange companion he makes to the fat and oafish-seeming human whose chair he leans against. How fascinating to see the easy touch of Dijkstra's big hand resting on Faoiltiarna's waist.

Dandelion is not a fool. He knows that by no accident is he being allowed to see this. It's either some test of his loyalty, of discretion, or a quiet and looming threat.

He knows, if he were to leave this room intent on calling in a sighting of an anarchist wanted in several countries for deadly acts of terrorism, he would find his cell service unavailable.

Or worse.

The scene appears almost domestic and quaint. The gold of Faoltiarna's dangling earrings catch the light as he plays a good little housewife and pours Dijkstra's a few fingers of scotch from the brimming caraffe. Dijkstra's lips turn up a moment to brush above the folded collar of his turtleneck.

Even so, Dandelion knows what's left of him could be discovered tomorrow in a dumpster somewhere in town, body unrecognizable.

Faoiltiarna does not cross the room to offer a drink to Dandelion, a hand sneaking onto Dijkstra's broad thigh, which is as good a dismissal as any. 

"Right," says Dandelion, leaping up. "I hope you fellows have a good evening. There's a lady downstairs I've promised a drink."

"I'll be in touch," says Dijkstra in a voice dark and dangerous. "One way or another."

"Understood! Understood. You can trust me implicitly." 

Dijkstra's right after all. Who would believe him? If word happens to get out of this strange union, these two powerful individuals will know exactly who to pin the blame on.

Well, his debts to this man are nearly paid off. Something long-anticipated and deviously planned is about to happen in Tretogor, he suspects, and then it won't matter what he knows or doesn't know about the love life of the most powerful man in the city.

Perhaps that's wishful thinking.

He steals one last glance at the pair leaning close together in the armchair. They seem to have already forgotten his lingering presence to return to what had been interrupted, Faoiltiarna toying with the gold chain that falls across Dijkstra's breast, Dijkstra's big hand swallowing the curve of his lean waist.

The anarchist's eyes meet Dandelion's as he lingers in the doorway, even as he brushes the perpetual sneer of his scarred mouth against the human's bald skull. The look is a clear challenge. I dare you to say a word. See what happens. See how many pieces they find you in. If you are found at all.

Dandelion salutes cheerily, winking to hide his cold thrill of fear, then closes the door of the study and disappears to the noise and simplicity of the club below.

Lucas Bicudo natural do Rio, mas baseado em Lisboa, Lucas Bicudo é DJ, colecionador de discos, curador e um dos fundadores do 1/4 Club, uma agência musical que representa artistas e realiza diversos projetos relacionados à música e performance, e que tem o seu próprio programa na Veneno Live, a maior rádio de música eletrónica do Brasil. Conhecido por trazer nas suas seleções uma mistura de ritmos entre o disco, house, afrobeats e "velharias" brasileiras, o Loco Carioco começou a sua carreira em 2012 no Rio de Janeiro a pôr música em clubs como a icónica CAVE e Lagoon. Após mudar-se para Lisboa, em 2017, já se apresentou em clubs como o Le Baron (Lisboa), Gambetta Club (Paris), VFDalston (Londres) e outros eventos em Berlin e Portugal. Sam Ruffillo Italo-American DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Ruffillo is the Italian disco part of Toy Tonics. Coming from Sicily with Roots in New York, Sam incorporates all what disco originally was about! And you can hear this in his music. Mediterranean disco and funky house with Italian vocals are his trademark vibes. On his records (Italianissimo) and also in his super elegant DJ set. That range from rare 80ies Italian edits to hands in the air house rarities that make people go mad.

Ana Lua Caiano explora a fusão musical, através da junção da música tradicional portuguesa com música eletrónica e “sons do dia-a-dia”. Criando melodias que remetem para a tradição - fazendo uso de coros, harmonias e cânones - numa união com sintetizadores, beat-machines e sons retirados do quotidiano, a sua música traz a herança tradicional portuguesa para o mundo moderno, eletrónico e tecnológico.

Em setembro de 2022 lançou o seu EP de estreia “Cheguei Tarde a Ontem”, e no mês seguinte foi selecionada para atuar na maior feira de world music global, a WOMEX, em formato show case. Apesar de ainda em início de carreira, Ana Lua Caiano conta já com perto de três dezenas de espetáculos, tendo percorrido diversos palcos de norte a sul do país. Ao vivo, atua em formato “one woman show”, com um sintetizador, uma loop station, um microfone, um bombo e vários instrumentos percussivos, que através da sobreposição de loops lhe permitem criar várias camadas sonoras e ambientes, sozinha e em tempo real.

Para 2023, Ana Lua Caiano irá lançar um novo EP, previsto para o segundo trimestre do novo ano.

Actual Things That Happened During My First Term of Zoom Acting School

Yes, they did move my first term of conservatory training online. Yes, it was wild.

The R.A.s have started hosting online events at every opportunity they get. Think cabaret nights, improv nights, Q & As with various teachers, etc, etc. Quarantine is currently driving them so mad that they’ve become extremely competitive about who can host the best event.

Speaking of quarantine, those living on campus are required to social distance with anyone not living in their dorm building and various dorm buildings aren’t supposed to interact with each other outside of class. This has created a vibrant black market exchange.

One of the boys’ dorms is decked out like a jazz bar. The boys run a speakeasy out of it every weekend.

One dorm over, a bunch of the girls are running what is essentially a DIY burlesque club.

Tensions are mounting in several dorms due to personalities clashing within the confines of quarantine. These are actors, remember. YOUNG actors from all over the world, all suddenly living together and unable to move very freely.

To prove the above point, the dorm across from mine once insisted our R.A. come down at 11:45 at night on a school night to settle something. Apparently, someone had hidden every single utensil and piece of cookware in their dorm out of pure spite and they were holding a fucking investigation ala Clue and wanted an R.A. to do room searches.

The dorms participating in the black market have developed an elaborate system of codes and pseudonyms for their dorm buildings and the people involved. It’s developing into a legitimate mafia.

It’s okay though, I’ve befriended one of the managers of the speakeasy. He’s actually quite sweet and has offered to share his recipes for mixed drinks.

Because it’s an acting school, there’s always a musical BLASTING. Like, it does not matter what time it is or where you are in any given student building -- you can always faintly hear a musical soundtrack coming from somewhere nearby.

We’re not allowed on the fire escapes anymore (unless there’s an actual fire) and the older students won’t tell us why. Apparently there was a fiasco of epic proportions last year but if you ask anyone about it, they just stifle a snicker and change the subject.

Despite 2/3rds of our classes being on Zoom, students are still required to wear studio blacks, which only fuels everyone to wear the wackiest stuff ever as soon as they have a day off. The shit I have seen people change into on Friday night...

Okay fine, the shit includes: bellbottoms and a leather vest left open over a bare chest, full punk regalia, a meticulously color-coordinated vintage ensemble, an honest-to-god sailor uniform, various evening gowns and costumes, and a t-shirt and jeans but with a feather boa overtop.

FOLLOW YOUR OWN PATH !

for the employees of five novelty bars that make up “the long crawl” , the party never stops. only problem is: they’re not the ones partying. banded together by a route established by drunken college students over a decade ago, our bartenders have no choice but to try get along if they want to survive wave after wave of rowdy tourists and hipsters. what is there to do when it feels everyone is moving forward but you ? can these crawlers break the cycle they’re stuck in and find a way to join in the fun, or will they embrace the never ending road that is THE LONG CRAWL ?

THE RULES/OVERVIEW

muses should be 21+. fcs should be 19+. follow the age +5/-5 rule. we can discuss in some cases. please refrain from using problematic face claims.  muns should be 18+. there will be adult themes throughout. right now there are spots for roughly 10 muns, but we have plenty of space to expand if there’s demand.  

NOTE: you are allowed to apply with two muses. they cannot work at the same bar, just so we can spread stuff out better. people can apply only as bartenders or dancers (only in the case of venom) just to keep everyone on equal ground and discourage power imbalances. managers will be npcs.

this is a very low stakes plot. there will be events and such but be prepared to focus more on character & relationship building ! ic drama is totally encouraged. ooc drama is not. i expect us all to be adults and communicate with each other. do not force shipping. please respect everyone’s boundaries. if you purposefully cause problems, you will be booted. 

please try to be active ic OR ooc at least every three days. interest checks will be posted to ensure people keep their roles. no one will be kicked unless 1) there’s severe inactivity (over a week) 2) they don’t react to keep their role within the 24 hour time frame. and even then i’ll speak to you beforehand to make sure.

THE BARS

MURRAY’S (1/4 SPOTS TAKEN) a good old fashioned irish pub. most likely place for a fight to break out. often full of regulars and older customers. didn’t consider themselves “themed” until they were lumped in with the rest of the crawl. inspirations: paddy’s pub from it’s always sunny, cheers. y’know, from cheers, the dive bars we all know and love.

VENOM (1/4 SPOTS TAKEN) a vintage vampire themed strip club/burlesque. high concept, but not unwelcoming. equipped with a main room, where most people on the crawl stop to drink, and an entertainment room, where the dancers and performers work.  inspirations: maison derriere (of the simpsons fame), elvira, the titty twister (from dusk til dawn). 

COLONEL ANGUS (1/4 SPOTS TAKEN) the local gay bar. tongue and cheek, pastel and candy colored, thriving on comedy and camp. caters to all members of the lgbtq community with sapphic/feminine leanings. inspirations: but i’m a cheerleader’s production design, the works on john waters and david lynch, fans of the criterion collection. 

CHEAT CODE (1/4 SPOTS TAKEN) a barcade with everything from vintage selections to brand new vr tech. expect theme nights and big screen super smash brothers games. retro-futuristic and completely neon & led lit. almost another planet.  inspirations: the arcade from stranger things, super mario world in japan,  scott pilgrim versus the world. 

THE DOGHOUSE (1/4 SPOTS TAKEN) a cowboy bar. styled after old saloons and equipped with a trusty mechanical bull. home to square dancing nights and live country music. a welcome relic.  inspirations: wherever the fuck beiste took schue in that one episode of glee, coyote ugly, western nostalgia.

Sabe, tem algo que eu percebi agora e eu gostei, foi um fato muito legal que eu percebi sobre filmes, jogos ou séries, tudo que envolve uma narrativa. Eu consigo me jogar nelas... Não me entregar... Mas me jogar mesmo, porque quando pegamos uma história exatamente no que ela significa, parece que nenhuma outra vai apagá-la, a experiência que você teve nunca vai sair de vc e eu gosto disso... O fato de que me joguei sem preconceitos e que no final aquilo não me decepcionou, sem precisar saber as opinião de segundos ou spoilers que ao acaso aparecem. Acho que esse tipo de arte falta em nossas vidas, não aqueles fabricados do tipo "Olha, mas uma coisa nova inventada...", mas "Vem cá, me dá um tapa na cara, me força a mudar", o aproveitar o medo, aproveitar a alegria, aproveitar a emoção do que aquilo te proporciona independente de qual lugar venha e isso se resume arte pra mim, te ensinar sem preconceitos para que você possa apreciar e eu fico feliz de saber fazer isso, espero que você consiga fazer o mesmo, porque a sensação é tão boa quando uma jornada acaba... Quando você se entrega a um filme, a um jogo, ou até a um livro, que quando termina, você está satisfeito e sabe que pode fazer mais com tudo que já existe na vida, porque parece que a insana enchente de informação que vivemos nos gasta tanto que só pensamos "Oh, algo novo, beijo, amei, quero, legal, já acabou?" e isso é tão errado, há tanto desperdício nisso que se explica a complexidade que tudo isso se tornou, mesmo não entendendo nada, ainda sentimos.
