What’s your opinion on the newest chapter bc that ending caught me tf off guard (if ykyk)

I love this chapter it’s so cool! I like that Mitsuba is helping Kou, and that Hanako the leader of the ghosts, was scared of the middle schooler’s haunted house. I also appreciate that everyone was together instead of the usual mitsukou/hananene split up. (They did split up by the end of the chapter again...but I’ll take what I can get.)

This part was nice too.

I wasn’t expecting it, but it makes sense Mitsuba wants to push Kou to be with Nene considering this is his mentality recently.

Aoi has a herbs tea stand! LOOK AT HER! I forgot there are more people in the gardening club besides her uiyguyg

AND AKANE USED A HEART IN HIS SPEECH BUBBLE?? This boy really is down bad, he gets rejected when he already knows Aoi likes him back but he keep looking at the bright side (he is so genuinely happy thinking about how cute she is when she’s shy. He is adorable.)

He cried a river when he was rejected what a loser, and Aoi is so blushy when she turns him down, she looks almost troubled?? Is she angry she can’t bring herself to agree? Is she troubled she already agreed to go with Teru? Idk but she is adorable. They are so stupid, they make my heart melt.

SPEAKING OF TERU, I love how he happily (threatened) invited Aoi on a date while confident Akane will be there. My bars are very low I am absolutely counting this as a terukaneaoi date LET’S GOO

Love how Aoi is scared and nervous but the idea Akane will be there too calm her down. She had fun the last time they hung out as a trio so I am excited!

(I won’t be surprised if the broadcasting club scheming makes it so they end up not having this tour, but my disappointment will be immeasurable.)

Teru was amazing this chapter on his own too, look at this bastard. He got an ego.

Not that I can blame him, any 17 year old would reach this conclusion when their class consistently worship him as a prince and made A WHOLE SUCCESSFUL VENUE?? WITH MERCHANDISE TOO?? HELP?? He is so chill about it “oh I was surprised when they suggested” BUT NO PROTESTS? Akane is right, he is a shameless guy.

(I wonder if Teru gets money out of it...? Since they are selling his image/’brand’. I hope he does. Can you imagine Teru telling his dad “oh yeah, half of my fortune comes from exorcism, half comes from my venue.” )

And hey, Tiara and kunishide are here! That’s nice, love to see them again! :D

You know who else is here? Sousuke’s mom! THE QUEEN IS HERE! LET HER THROUGH!!! I DID NOT EXPECT TO EVER SEE HER AGAIN, MY BELOVED!

I’m interested in how Mitsuba will deal with a ‘mom’ he never had. He no longer seems obsessed with Sousuke, the manga itself treats Sousuke as a thing of the past (Kou even fully accepted his death in chapter 74) so her presence is BIG.

I wonder if the mom will be able to see Mitsuba, and bring more info on Sousuke, or explore both her and Mitsuba’s characters. Mitsuba does feel like he has no ‘family’ after all. And Sousuke’s mom, who lost her son and husband, also has no family, but unlike Mitsuba, she used to have. Add in Mitsuba’s relationship with his own identity and I am definitively intrigued by what her role in this arc will be.

The ending caught me off guard too, I thought the broadcasting club wanted to control time not destroy it, even if it does make sense, considering their end goal is every yorishiro's destruction.

And this part made me realize we never saw Natsuhiko bleed before, and it explains how he consistently gets out of dangerous or tricky situations that while not deadly for an immortal would have been very hard to escape if his power was merely 'durability'.

He can’t lose, even a supernatural’s ‘victory’ where he gets eaten will result in them being corroded from the inside out. Since Natsuhiko can’t die, blood loss isn’t a problem either, he is a neverending poison machine. Love that for him.

This is my friend’s spidersona, Widow! Widow and Goldenweb are from the same universe! Widow is the symbiote dude to goldenweb’s spiderman. They used to be evil but went through a redemption arc about *checks watch* a week ago :). Now they run villain karaoke (called Fight Club). Ok but like, what if MC's fandom starts to make ships with MC and the guys. Just think about the ship wars, the fancams, the fanarts, the absolute CHAOS when the brothers find out. For WEEKS the headline picture on so many of their fans' blogs was an image of him turning beet red while the MC kissed him on the cheek. (A fan really got their money's worth there... 😏)

Though he doesn’t exactly like the MC getting shipped with other people, he'll still totally sell pictures of any of them together. He almost paid off an entire credit card with the money he got from the t-shirt sales of the MC and Satan!

If he had to point to one ship he doesn't like it's either MC x Asmo or MC x Levi. His opinion, but Asmo won't treat them right and they could do waaay better than a shut-in. Like him. Ship the MC with just the Great Mammon, got it?

Leviathan

… Lowkey super active in the MC shipping community but is a self-shipper to the extreme.

Like, he never uses his real name on anything (and would probably die from embarrassment if anyone ever found out) but a lot of their fans probably know a couple of his aliases.

He does everything from mod forums, runs a couple blogs, even anonymously posts his own work of him and MC that are totally not his secret fantasy dates or AU versions of themselves, shaddup.

It’s a lot easier for him to keep his involvement secret because he’s hardly at RAD, but the few times he does show up he tries to keep an eye out for anybody prowling for pictures so he can get in a good pose and save the image later.

Mind you, his version of a “good pose” rarely gets more spicy than linking pinkies, but even then he’s still lit up a Christmas Tree throughout.

Naturally, he’s also not a big fan of any ships that aren’t just him and MC and he can find a reason to be jealous at almost anything. But he keeps a special corner of hate for MC x Mammon and MC x Diavolo. Like, the first one doesn’t even need an explanation but MC x Diavolo?? Really??? Do those two even talk?? (please, please, please make sure they never actually talk because a guy like him versus literal royalty? He’d lose MC for sure….!! 😫)

Satan

He hates to actually agree with Lucifer on something, but their fans are starting to get out of hand...

Knows what shipping is in concept, he may have done it once or twice to characters in his books, but he was kind of surprised how it could evolve into such a… group activity?

He was pretty quick to pick up that the MC’s fans had a bit more interest in them together than they did when they both were apart…

I mean, those hideous shirts that Mammon was pedaling were kind of a dead giveaway…

Considering he finds their fanclub all rather annoying, even without their bizarre interest in his love life, when they started actively meddling with him and the MC he was ready to smash some heads.

No. He will not stop for pictures. No. What things they do together is none of your business. No. He has zero interest in seeing your explicit fanart and if you don’t start running that will be the last question you ever ask.

He DOES, however, appreciate the cringy “annoy Lucifer” ammo. They could keep that up for a lifetime... 😏

He doesn’t have a least favorite ship because he doesn’t care about any of this, leave him alone. (That’s a lie, it’s MC x Lucifer. He pokes fun at Lucifer, but he can’t stand it either. Big shock, I know 🙄).

Asmodeus

Oh he is shamelessly a part of the community, are you kidding??

He could practically call “Shipping the MC” one of his favorite pastimes. He’ll openly gossip with their fanclub about who they’ve been with, who they’re seeing, who’s got a chance, etc… He lives for this shit!

He’s the only person who knows that Levi is also in the community and what his aliases are (not because he told him, but because Levi’s not as subtle as he thinks he is… Who else would call themselves “SupremeRuri666” and speak mostly in outdated chat lingo?) but he doesn’t out him because he thinks his very obvious crush is kind of cute.

Plus, Levi needs the outlet waaaay more than him…

Doesn’t stop him from constantly trolling him and getting into arguments over who the MC would be better with though (the two are “virtual nemeses” as far as Levi is concerned).

Appreciates all forms of expression that comes out of the community (especially the saucy kind 😏) and will happily feed into his own shippers without a care in the world.

Truthfully, Asmo will say that there isn’t a ship he doesn’t like but if someone mentions one that he thinks is kind of “eh,” he’ll just add himself into the mix. “Oh, you like MC x Barbatos? Well how about Asmo x MC x Barbatos? That sounds loads more interesting doesn’t it??”

Beelzebub

Oh, Beel… Sweet, sweet Beel… Beel doesn’t even know what their club is doing…

Because Beel has a reputation of being pretty protective of MC - and against the fanclub in general - the club keeps a healthy distance… but that doesn’t mean they’re not going to sneak in some picture or make a SHITLOAD of fanwork about them.

Between classes and practice Beel is a busy guy, so sometimes he just doesn’t notice that there’s people hiding behind trees when he’s out with MC.

Honestly, his complete ignorance of it all makes it even cuter because when he acts sweet, it’s not just for the camera. That’s the real deal.

Mammon was the one who eventually let it slip that there was even shipping happening and Beel was… kind of creeped out because isn’t this stalking? But also kind of weirdly happy(?) that MC x Beel was so popular… Very conflicted boy here.

He never actually acknowledges the community, though, and just keeps on being Beel (which still gave the fans more than enough material so all’s well that ends well?)

Beel genuinely doesn’t have a least favorite ship (because he believes the best ship is whoever makes the MC happy) but his second favorite under himself is probably MC x Belphie. They look very cute together... 😊

Belphegor

Ride or die, Beel x MC x Belphie.

Just kidding (kind of), Belphie isn’t into the shipping but if asked he’d be pretty okay with that one.

His campaign against the MC’s fanclub and their attention stealing ways means that he found out about their shipping thing only slightly ahead of Beel when Mammon was trying to get pictures of them napping together…

Honestly, he couldn’t care less if a bunch of weirdos were weirdly invested in their relationship, but he’s not about to let Mammon just make a quick Grimm off of it. Belphie makes sure that he gives him NOTHING to work with.

Since Mammon is the main dealer, the shippers in both the MC fanclub and Belphie fanclub aren’t nearly as well fed and pretty desperate for anything... You best believe he plays that to his advantage (because it’s okay if he does. He’s not Mammon).

Really helps that MC x Belphie is legitimately a very cute looking couple, carried by Belphie’s cuteness alone if nothing else. Add an adorable MC and you reach levels so cute it could actually melt people into puddles of goo... They could be a registered weapon.

Least favorite MC ships are any that don’t involve him or Beel. Any others may as well just not exist, he won’t even acknowledge them. MC x Who? Yeah, that’s what he thought.

The Owl House, Season 2 Speculation

New Year, New Speculations! In the middle of the season, Owl House Season 2 is still over the horizon, and many fans (myself included) are clamouring for even the slightest bit of info. Whether its episode titles, how many episodes, a release date, etc. Many are excited for the prospect of Season 2, confirmed two months ahead of the series’ premiere!

Season 1 left many things unresolved, yet still found itself to be satisfying in some aspects. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does leave excitement for more episodes. This post will talk abou three main areas: character development and their anticipated arcs, the main plot introduced, and smaller side plots incorporated in Season 1.

I’m more of a casual Owl House fan, but I enjoy speculating about what is to come. So if I missed anything, let me know!

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASON ONE OF “THE OWL HOUSE”

Let’s begin, shall we?

Character Development and Anticipated Arcs

Luz and Amity – Obviously one of the most exciting and anticipated arcs in a very long time, since all main character queer relationships canonically happen towards the end of the series, either as a result of censorship or queerbaiting. One good and the other not as much.) From their rough first meeting at Hexside all the way to playing on the same Grudgby team, we’ve seen their relationship naturally bloom in the first season. There’s definitely gonna be tensions with the Blight family, but that falls more under plot.

Eda and Lilith – Nothing says interpersonal drama more than a complicated sibling relationship. At the end of Season 1, Lilith shares the curse with Eda after helping them escape Belos’ imprisonment. I don’t believe that they will have a happy go-lucky relationship from the start of Season 2, but I do believe that they are on the path to bettering themselves and each other. Possibly an introduction of their parents (as introduced at the end of “Covention”) but perhaps not.

Willow & Gus – Perhaps one of the more frustrating parts of The Owl House personally. Willow and Gus have very little character development for themselves in Season 1. Other episodes that focus on them were mainly narrative devices to further develop other characters. e.g. 115 - “Understanding Willow” although being about Willow, was mainly a means to develop Amity, Luz and introduce the Blight Family drama, therefore developing Amity’s arc further rather than develop Willow herself. I think it is fine for a first season to prioritise which characters to show, and which to set up for later on. My hopes for Season 2 is that they will have their own development outside of being used to further other forefront characters.

Main Plots Introduced

Emperor Belos

The Magic of Belos

The Refueling – In 118 - “Agony of a Witch”, when Lilith enters Belos’ chambers for the first time, we see him ragged and tiredly hunched over his throne gasping for air. To rejuvenate himself, he takes what seems to be a Palisman broken from their staff and cuts it open, revealing a green goo-like energy. He drips it into his eyes, supposedly giving him power.

Witch’s Wool Cape – The Witch’s Wool Cape is the cape that Eda made for Luz in 118 - “Agony of a Witch” and Luz is seen wearing it in 119 - “Young Blood, Old Souls”. What remains interesting about this is what Eda specifically says about it (”It repels powerful spells. Every Witch worth their salt has a cloak like this!”) and how Belos is able to use powerful magic against Luz to slam her into the wall during their fight sequence. Does this mean Belos is using a different type of magic? Or is his magic far more powerful than the Witch’s Wool can withstand?

The Titan of the Boiling Isles & Belos’ Propaganda – The Titan is technically canon and true. In Belos’ throne room, we see his throne just under a very large beating heart. However, it’s not clear if Belos in actuality is able to speak to the Titan, or if he’s trying to maintain order and rule.

The Spy of Belos – This is more of a minor plot introduced at the very end of 119 - “Young Blood, Old Souls”, but Belos speaks to Kikimora and shows a spy wearing a Palace guard uniform and a mask that somewhat resembles Hooty.

The Portal to the Human World – This remains one of the greater mysteries of Belos, as the finale shows him to want access to the human world, yet the show does not say why. Perhaps his goal is to somehow liberate the world by the actual word of the Titan, or he wants to take over the human world under the disguise of being able to speak to the Titan. Either way, it leads to the Human World being taken over by Belos.

Hexside Academy & The Mono-Coven System – The addition of Luz is interesting, as she and the other previous members of the Detention track all have multi-coven learning. Previous to that, Eda was the only real exception who was not a part of a coven and using “Wild Magic”. It leaves the question if Belos’ tolerance for a blatant disregard for his system in Hexside will be brought to light, and how he may try to enforce his rule.

Luz Noceda

The Portal & Returning Home – The only real way for Luz to return home is through Belos’ makeshift portal, since she destroyed Eda’s original portal to protect the human world from Belos.

Letters to Luz’s Mom – A big mystery is who is sending Luz’s mom the letters pretending to be her from Boring Camp in “Enchanting Grom Fright”? Theories have been swirling around of it being Eda, Emperor Belos or even a new representative in the human world with the ability to carry out Belos’ plans. The question now is if the sender is actually from the Boiling Isles, how did they send the messages? If using the portal, only Eda has the ability. Belos has lost actual access to the portal, so he isn’t a contender. The mystery looms over us.

Learning Magic & Connecting to the Boiling Isles – As of now, Luz knows four spells: Light, Ice, Plant, and Fire. She has been able to connect with the Island to use magic in her paper method, and the finale showed it was the connection to and magic of the Boiling Isles which allowed her to use the magic. There are a number of Covens and spells she has yet to learn, which also leads with her own journey to self-confidence and found family.

Eda, Lilith & The Curse

The Curse – By the end, the curse is worsened. If not for Lilith sharing the curse with Eda, the curse would have taken over Eda and she would have been lost forever. But now with the elixir no longer working halfway through the season, they must find another way to undo the magic binding them to this transformation.

Luz’s Paper Method of Magic – Eda and Lilith are unable to do any more typical magic using their biological functions, but Luz offers to teach them her Paper technique of using magic. Eda tries and it shows that she is able to use the Light spell at the least.

Hooty - I stan Hooty! There I said it! But this is more than just me irrationally stanning the best biord house, there’s actual interesting potential in the mythology behind Hooty. First of al,l as the titular character of “The Owl House” we know nothing about how he came into existence. We don’t know his past with Eda, nor how Eda, King and him came together. Potentially after Eda was cast as an outsider, but nothing specific yet.

The Blight Family

Amity (Personal Journey) – Amity has shown to have struggled with her family, more specifically limitation by her parents and an extent of harassment by her siblings. This would also factor in several plots, such as: Belos and the mono-Coven system, Luz and her relationship with Amity, Willow and Amity, Basha, and several other related threads. I believe that the Blight Family will appear more plot related than just simply being character focused for Amity alone.

Side Plots

These are the mini plots introduced and have yet to be touched upon again.

King’s Species of the Demons – In 104 “The Intruder” where we first learn of Eda’s curse, King speaks of his species: a group of which we haven’t seen yet. He says their weaknesses are purified water and passive-aggressive comments. We haven’t seen any other characters quite like King, so that’s something to look forward to.

The Magical Capabilities of Luz, Willow and Gus – In 106 “Hooty’s Moving Hassle” where Luz, Willow and Gus animate the Owl House with chicken legs, Eda says at the end “...[to animate a whole house.] That would take some powerful magic.” Meanwhile showing Amity and Basha’s five-person friend group unable to conjure a doll. If Amity is shown to be an exceptionally powerful witch unable to do a conjuring spell, it leaves a question of how powerful the trio actually is...

Azura Book Club – Lumity fans know the Azura book club, a.k.a Gen-Z’s way of figuring out if people are gay. (I’m half joking here.) But the Azura Book Club was mentioned last in 112 “Adventures in the Elements” and not touched upon again.

Mattholomule, Gus and the Human Appreciation Society (H.A.S) - This isn’t that important, but Gus has been known for being very into human mythology and lore. Mattholomule is the Leader of H.A.S, but it still remains the question if Gus is still a part of it and trying to combat Mattholomule’s ridiculous human mythos to be liked.

The Palisman – There’s quite a bit surrounding this one so it forms into two topics.

The Bat Queen – A very interesting character appearing only twice (”Lost in Language”, and “Escape of the Palisman”) before never being mentioned again for the whole season. The Bat Queen has her children, as well as the protection of the abandoned Palisman by irresponsible Witches. Luz also leaves an open-ended offer to help the Bat Queen search for her original Owner. Perhaps the Titan was the Bat Queen’s original owner, or possibly a giant before the reign of Emperor Belos since she did mention it had been far too long to remember.

Palisman of the Main Cast – With the introduction of the Palisman, it leaves the question of when Luz, Willow, Amity, and Gus will get their own Palisman and which animal they would have. Luz has been shown to have the ability to use non-paper magic when in possession of a Palisman (”Young Blood, Old Souls”), so it could prove an interesting loophole for Luz to be flexible with the methods of magic she uses.

Archaia’s Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance #11

The Journey into the Mondo Levidian Part 3

Y’know, the title page says “Mondo Levidian” but its spelled more like Mondo Leviadin inside the book. Vexing.

Maybe we haven’t even reached the Mondo Levidian yet and Mayrin and Kam’Lu are going to get swallowed by an even BIGGER monster!

Only time will tell!

In part one, newly All-Maudra’d Mayrin deals with a Sifan separatist crisis but also plenty of unresolved mother-induced insecurity issues. She charters a ride with Captain Kam’Lu to speak to the separatist leader Fenth but a sea monster sinks the ship.

In part two, Mayrin and Kam’Lu are adrift at sea on a raft following the sinking but then they get eaten by a sea monster. The two meet the monster gut dwelling Boblings and learn that they have a limited time before the Mondo Levidian returns to the deeps and then there’ll be no escape for a year. With the Bobling King’s daughter Gunda, the two set off on a journey out of the Mondo Levidian.

Hm. Maybe the book should have been called Escape from the Mondo Levidian? They’ve only just Journey’d into and now they’re trying to leave.

But let’s get started!

Gunda takes Mayrin and Kam’Lu to the Gateway of the Toothrakes.

Gunda: “This is the fastest path to the porticol from Bajula. We’ll keep our pincers ready and our goo shields steady.”

Mayrin: “What if we don’t have goo shields?”

Gunda: “Then Thra have mercy on you.”

Goo sure is popular among Boblings.

She explains that everything that the Mondo Levidian swallows that the Boblings don’t take ends up here, making it a wasteland of forgotten things, living and dead.

In a brief scene in Ha’rar, Mayrin’s advisors discuss whether they should go on without the All-Maudra when Fenth shows up demanding that the meeting about Sifan autonomy will be now, with or without an All-Maudra.

Fenth: “There will be no Vapran victory. There will be no moment of false unity. What we want is undeliverable by Vapran hands -- only by ours! So which of you -- the All-Maudra’s most trusted and loyal advisors -- will take her place in these dire times? A Vapran of courage? Of strategy? Of... decorations?”

Dot: “Don’t you dare touch that, Fenth! Those decorations belong to All-Maudra Mayrin!”

HOLY GEEZ DOT

Dot: -sees Fenth touching her throne decorations- ‘I see you’ve chosen death’

She apparently came right here from surviving the shipwreck because she’s still soaking wet and full of just-survived-shipwreck energy.

Dot also declares she’ll be the Vapran representative.

I’m glad she survived the shipwreck because she’s a delight.

Back in the Mondo Levidian, Mayrin and Kam’Lu become Officially Friends when she abbreviates his name.

Kam’Lu: “You... you called me ‘Lu. Only my friends call me that... but we’re not...?”

Mayrin: “After everything we’ve been through, ‘Lu, of course we’re friends.”

Kam’Lu: “Friends -- hehe -- with the All-Maudra! Today keeps getting weirder.”

AND THEN A ZOA ATTACKS

Turns out that its not just Gelfing and Podlings that are ridiculously adaptable.

Some Arathim that were gobbled up by the Levidian also adapted. They lost the hive mind and gained some crustacean aesthetic.

The three fight the Zoa, having to toss Gunda’s goo shield (its a shield with goo on it) and sword around during the fight. They defeat the spider-crab-monster but Kam’Lu gets his leg hurt pushing Mayrin out of the way of the Zoa during the fight.

Its a wound that requires thorough cleansing because Zoa apparently implant their spawn in wounds so its clean the injury with fermented levidian digestive acids or be eaten from the inside out by little baby Zoa.

And then after Kam’Lu screams that the acid burns (he’s doing a good job still being the butt monkey) Gunda takes a belt of the acids as, I dunno, a power move.

They move past the toothrakes and towards the porticol which is where the Zoa decided they live now. So Gunda comes up with a plan (drawing it out in the Levidian’s inside meat?? I know that the scale is so small that the Levidian is going to barely notice but eeuch) to sneak through tunnels to a derelict ship and hopefully not run into a Necrizoa.

Mayrin: “What is the Necrizoa?”

Gunda: “If it is necessary to know, we’re already dead.”

From the derelict ship, there will just be a vertical climb to the porticol.

But Mayrin is surprised when they reach the derelict ship.

Mayrin: “The Hope of Thra?! That was... that was one of my mother’s ships! One of our fleet! I rode on this ship as a childling!”

Gunda: “Shush, you fool. Sneaky time begins now!”

Mayrin: “Right. Sorry.”

Being in her mother’s old ship, seeing her own old rooms, is bringing back a lot of mom-related angsts for Mayrin.

Kam’Lu: “Were you close with the... your mother?”

Mayrin: “It’s hard to say. It always felt like close was too close. I... I... never had an opportunity to tell her how I felt.”

Kam’Lu: “And how did you feel...?”

Mayrin: “Angry. I was angry at her. It felt like she was always preparing me for some grand responsibility. She never let me just figure things out. But... maybe that was for the best. Look where I got us.”

Kam’Lu has taken a kind of holistic view to getting swallowed by a sea monster and tells her that she’s taken him to things he’s never seen or imagined.

For example: a Zoa wearing clothes.

THE FANCIEST ZOA

Its wearing the previous All-Maudra’s clothes from a derelict ship inside a giant sea monster’s respiratory tract. What an odd encounter!

Thanks to Gunda expelling goo (so they farm it AND blrrrrrb it up?), the three gutventurers outrun a whole swam of Zoa and reach the porticol!

But it’s closing (clenching?) earlier than estimated! And the Zoa are right behind them!

Earlier, Mayrin had asked Kam’Lu to deliver her message of Gelfling unity if she didn’t make it and he played it off as a joke.

Now, with his leg hurt and the porticol clenching, Kam’Lu tells Mayrin she’ll have to go on without him. He won’t be able to make the climb and she won’t be able to carry all of them on wet wings.

Kam’Lu: “Your life is worth more than mine! My All-Maudra survives at all costs! Fly! Get to the porticol! Save yourself, Mayrin!”

He’s really turned around on her!

Kam’Lu and Gunda face the oncoming Zoa swarm as Mayrin tears up and has one of those internal mom monologues that she has sometimes.

Mayrin: “Mother, it seems you have found me here at the ends of the world. Found me how you always found me. Unsure. Scared. Weak. It’s so beautiful, the big whole heart of everything. You brought it to me -- strangely, here, in this place. And even as we are under siege, in the darkness of Thra, where even the light of the three suns has lost us, you’re here with me. Bringing light. I must be strong, mother. I must be stronger than you.”

Where’s Mayrin’s Stronger Than You song parody??

The Zoa fly after because why wouldn’t Arathim adapted to live in a sea monster’s guts develop wings?

But with one more ‘I’ll show you, mom!’ flashback, Mayrin finds the strength to reach the porticol juuust before it closes. Gunda drops off because she lives in here.

Gunda: “Farewell Gelfling! We hope you enjoyed your matrimonial cabal journey! Come back soooooooon!”

A consummate tourism professional to the last.

Mayrin and Kam’Lu stand atop the Mondo Levidian, seeing things that aren’t sea monster guts once again!

Aww, frens.

Also, the Zoa are still coming but that’s next issue’s problem.

So it was a little abrupt considering they started off very much at odds, so much so that Mayrin was going to sit in her quarters the whole time rather than deal with him. But nothing like the crucible of a sea monster gut to fast track a friendship and LIFELONG DEVOTION.

In fairness, it started all the way back at the beginning of the second issue, where Kam’Lu was briefly stunned by her charisma on the raft. And then slightly delayed because the universe conspired to make him the butt of every joke.

But by example and not word, Mayrin has convinced him of Gelfling unity. Also, she flew a thing without crashing, so she beat her mom-shaped personal arc too.

Things are going well and will surely continue to be well next issue.

Which will presumably be twenty pages of Dot kicking Fenth’s butt in debate club. A shipwreck didn’t stop her and neither will rhetoric.

BNHA Ship to Finish the Year

KodaNuki (Kodai Yui x Honenuki Juzo)

Canon

When they graduate, they end up in the same agency.

The two are good friends, but they get closer when Kodai's PR asks Juzo for help.

Due to her resting unimpressed face, Kodai is not doing well in her publicity, so they ask him, who seems to be close to her, for help.

Juzo is supposed to talk to her, to try and convince her to smile more.

At first, he talks with her, trying to make her smile for the cameras. But it's very obvious she is not good at it either.

Her smiles look fake, and it looks like she is being coerced to be in the pictures and look happy.

It takes him a while, but he finally discovers a way to make smile, funny faces.

Yui Kodai, badass hero extraordinaire, giggles like a little girl if you make funny faces at her.

And Juzo's face, that makes the task of making her laugh easy.

The next time she has an interview, he places himself somewhere the cameras can't see him but where he is in direct line of sight with Kodai.

When the interview starts, whenever it's a good moment for her to giggle or smile, he starts doing faces.

It works. Kodai smiles, and the next day, her smile is plastered all over the city.

But during that interview, something happened to Juzo. When he was making Yui smile, he couldn't help but feel like Kodai's smile was for him, and the two were the only people around.

It's like being hit with cupids arrow.

It's fast, it's unexpected, and it hurts.

Because when he gets the resolve to talk about their feelings, he finds her getting ready for a date.

He knew she had been chatting with Iida Tenya lately, but didn't know this was the direction it was taking.

He tries to be happy for her, but he doesn't like lying to her. But that changes when he learns that she will be moving away.

So, he tells her how he feels. He doesn't do it to make her break up with Iida or anything like that, he just wants her to know how he feels.

Kodai is confused, but she moves anyway.

A year later, they reunite in a class b reunion. Juzo is single, and Kodai broke up with Iida a month ago.

The two talk during the rest of the night, and then get coffee together at her place.

They don't start dating right away, since Kodai is still not over Iida, and doesn't think she is ready for another relationship at the moment.

Juzo understands and they sort of agree that they are something, but they are taking it slow.

Four years later, they get married.

Family

Kodai's family is just her mom and her dad.

Unlike her, the two are super energetic.

They smile and laugh obnoxiously, scream and jump like excited children. It's a little bit surprising, since Yui is not that emotional.

The two are very happy to meet Juzo.

They make a feast for their meeting, and they present it with so much love that, he can't say no when they offer more.

He goes out of that with five more pounds than when he first came in.

When Juzo went to their home, he was expecting them to be put off by his face, but Yui's parents don't care. They are like two little kids, living in their innocent little world and accepting everything at face value.

Juzo's family is composed of his mother and his two little sisters.

I don't know why I imagine him with having a dead parent. Maybe it's how he is so responsible, makes me think he has more experience.

His mom is a famous hero-suits designers. She doesn't have that much money, but is well-off.

When she goes to meet them, the moment she steps inside their home, Kodai is surrounded by two teens.

Juzo's sisters are hero fanatics, and teens, so they ask her up a storm. They especially like female heroes, so they love Kodai already.

Juzo's mom also loves her, and asks her if she would let her re-design her hero-outfit.

I imagine that Juzo's mouth is from his mom, but unlike he, she uses a mask to cover it.

I think they would have two sons.

The first one is named Oyugo (swim), and his quirk is to soften his body enough that it can turn into goo. He can't move when he is like that, however.

The second son is named Kukku (cook), and his quirk is that he can soften other stuff to the point it becomes goo. He can also make them smaller.

You might be wondering why I chose those names. Well, I first thought about Oyugo, and I kind of liked the idea that he liked to cook, and he becomes a very successful chef.

But when I created the second son, and I was thinking what I could name him, I thought: 'Wouldn't it be funny if I named him cook, but made him a swimmer, like it got mixed up with his brother?... wait,'

So, here we are.

Oyugo becomes a chef, and Kukku becomes an Olympic swimmer.

I like to think that they have Juzo's mouth, but have Kodai's unemotional face. They have the best Halloween pranks thanks to that, since it's a terrifying sight to look at that.

AU - Theater Geek Couple AU

This is a High school AU, but I didn't want to name it that, so I didn't.

Kodai is a theatre kid who is shy outside of the stage.

There is a fan-club entirely dedicated to her. She has no idea it exists.

Juzo is a geek who helps with the costumes for the school's plays. He is a great cosplayer, and uses the school's resources sometimes, but he makes good costumes.

He likes Kodai, but he is too shy to even talk to her. He thought of joining her fan-club, but it's just a bunch of guys drooling over her in a creepy fashion. He knows they come to all the plays she's been in, and that sometimes they stalk her on social media.

He is a little afraid they might try something else, so he tells the security guy and the drama teacher.

That is how they end up talking to each other on the first place.

The fan-club starts hanging outside their door after rehearsal, so they ask Juzo to accompany Kodai to her home.

Since he has seen them and knows who they are, he can identify them easily.

At first, they don't talk much. But as Juzo keeps walking her home, they start becoming friends.

Kodai start asking about his cosplay, and he shows her pictures, and one day, she asks if she can do it too. Juzo falls a little harder for her.

They start working on a couple costume and spending more time together.

But then, the fan-club start creeping up more. They go backstage to leave roses and gifts for her, which she doesn't want. It scares her a little, and she asks Juzo to stay with her at her home, since her parents are not going to be there tonight.

He accepts, and as they see some movies and drink a cup of coffee, they start leaning closer.

They don't get to kiss though, since a flash interrupts them.

Juzo goes to investigate and finds some of the guys from the fan-club. They ran when they see him, but they drop the camera.

When the two check it out, they see that they have been taking pictures of her in her home. Nothing that they could blackmail her with, she is dressed in all of them, but it is worrying they have so many pictures.

They call the police and her parents, and they fill a restraining order.

While that is being taken care of, Juzo stays with her until her parents finish talking with the cops.

They don't talk about the almost kiss, but she does sneak a shy cheek kiss.

They go to the con together, dressed as a Titan and Levi. Yui is Levi and Juzo is the Titan.

They have fun, and they act like they are on a date. When he takes her home, they finally kiss and start dating.

All of this AU developed from the idea of Kodai and Juzo cosplaying Attack on Titan, for Juzo's mouth.

Fanon Opinion

The two are too much of a background character for me to come up with anything.

Even after the Joint Training arc, they weren't used much, or at least, Kodai wasn't used much.

I think they are a cute couple.

They seem like those couples who have like no drama in their lives, but really they are just good at dealing with issues.

I think they would be a couple who succeeds at communication, even if Kodai doesn't talk much.

In my mind that helps, because it means that when she does talk, people pay attention, since it means that whatever she is saying is important enough to be voiced.

There's no art about them that I could find.

There is Fanfiction about her, but she is not paired with Honenuki in any of them.

Kodai is either paired with other girls or with Iida.

And there are a few where she is with Sero or Midoriya.

And Honenuki is paired a lot with Shihai or other boys, sometimes with girls.

The gays are taking over. YAY!

I don't think many think about this couple. They are two shy people, and people usually prefer if there is more of a difference between their two characters for a ship.

I like the two as characters, and I have nothing against them as a couple. But being honest, they are not a ship I would look content for.

Like, if it appears or they in the background, I have no problem with it. But they are not a ship I would say: 'Oh, I wonder how this dynamic is!'.

I guess my problem is more to do with importance. They are extras in the manga, so I don't really care much about them.

I mean, they are background characters.

I wish we could have more about them, and the rest of class B.

I just saw It 2 again, and now I’m back to crying XD

Warning! Swearing!

Mike slammed on the door, his palm trying to crack the splintered wood with every desperate thump and sloppy hit, but Richie couldn’t hear it.

Eddie couldn’t hear it.

Hell, even Bill couldn’t hear it.

All they could see was this fridge. This grotty little refrigerator that hummed as loud as a small truck warming on a wintry morning that they swore they could see it vibrate. The stickiness, the tangy yellow colour, the little bits of black mould that begin to sprout out of the door like little reaching tendrils was enough to make Eddie gag. He had had enough; this wasn’t happening, whatever was in there, he wasn’t doing it.

‘Guys, we have to go. If Pennywise- if he comes out, I can’t do it. Not again.’

‘No....not Pennywise.... much worse...’

Richie slides his torch over the rusting metal, his eyebrows rising in surprise as his brain racks to try and place that voice he knew in his heart, not even realising his fingers had begun to shake lightly against the black metal.

‘All you’re.... regrets...all your lies....your failures...’

Given the state of the outside, Bill prepared to hold his breath as he slowly inched forward to open it, creaking along the tilting floorboards with each step.

‘I-I k-know that voice. I know you. I know you-’

There would no doubt be nothing but disgust when Bill swung open the door, the old seals giving up the door with ease. Yet there was something else too. A small brown parcel, sitting on top of a bubbling pile of goo that splattered against the inside like a rupturing volcano, the spit and boil making Eddie gag into his elbow as he realises it’s the same liquid the leper had thrown up onto his face just a few hours earlier. To his surprise, he let in a gasp of the putrid air; it was every bit as bad as he had expected, but still he leaned in for the parcel, the label half torn away.

‘Belonging to Y/N- For use of the Losers only.’

Bill’s fingers shake as he slowly unwraps the sticky tape from the corners of the brown, crinkly paper. A muscle twitched involuntarily at the corner of his right eye, his mouth forming a rigid grimace as it crumples open in his hand. He clenches his fists tightly, until his nails dig into the palm of his hand, but he barely notices. The only thing he is really aware of is the sound of his heart throbbing against the cage of his chest. It's not until Richie points it out, that he realises his lip is bleeding.

‘Bill-Bill what is it?’

‘It’s her shoe-it’s her f-fucking shoe.’

‘He’s fucking with us, he’s fucking with us guys!’, Eddie shouts, his back slamming against the wall with a sick thud as he covers his eyes with his trembling fingers.

‘I want to go home, I can’t do this.’

‘Neither could I, and look where I ended up.’

The house had seemed to become aware of itself, of the history that echoed within the walls, the bodies that lay underneath its structure like a plague, or a deadly moss. Somewhere within, the walls had become one with the rats who crawled and the sticky spider webs.

As Bill slowly turned around slowly, not wanting to believe the warm voice that filled the cold air behind Eddie’s raven curls. The house shivered again, but in a different way. This time there was a small fragment of warmth, a tiny brave smile in the walls, a small spark of hope.

As Richie swung his torch over your face, his mouth blubbering open and shut as he watched Eddie slowly, slowly, as if his life depended on it, inch away from you with his hands on the wall with wide eyes, no one could look away from you. There was a tense moment of silence, your eyes trained on some invisible spectre, your heavy eyelids a fraction too slow to blink, your irises too stationary. It was as if your brain was suffering a massive short circuit and was struggling to compute.

Bill slowly moved into your line of sight, your head tilting upward to his face, his eyes sliding into focus, but not really noticing the tears that brimmed at their crinkles. He raises his hands, not building the courage to touch your shoulder as Richie runs behind you to Eddie, the sick crunches of your bones as you shift your skeleton forward making them all grimace.

‘You...you left me...’

‘W-we’re here, y/n, we’re h-here now and w-we’re not leaving, w-w-we promise.’

‘Dude’, Eddie mumbles, his breathe starting to catch in his throat as he wraps his fingers around his neck, choking on his own air as he stutters out, ‘where’s her leg? Where’s her fucking leg?’

The way your eyes squint at Big Bill when you glared at him reminded him of a pit viper's slit-like pupils. He gulped nervously. A burning animosity was developing in your orbs, and he could tell the person you once were, his best friend, the person he cried on when Georgie died was gone. He’d done it. He’d killed you as well.

‘I would still be alive, if it weren’t for you.’

The grief surged with every expelled breath as Bill stumbled back, tears beginning to spill from his helpless eyes.

‘Guys..’, Richie starts, ‘I don’t know what the fuck that is, but it’s not y/n. We need to get the absolute fuck out of here.’

‘At least you came back for me, huh Bill? Because it was your fault I died. Or was it big liar liar pants on fire Trashmouth Tozier? Or scaredy cat Kaspbrak who left me to rot with the weeds. You’re not leaving. Not this time. You’re going to stay, and rot with me, just like it should have been.’

Suddenly raising the knife hidden in your knobbly knuckles up high, twisting it in the stray daylight as if it could slice up the sun-rays, your expression was exaggerated by the dark shadows around your eyes, your face split into a grin that arced in a sickly way, never making it to her almost sunken eyes. Bill could barely hear the helpless scream that escaped from Eddie’s lips as he started banging against the door, the helpless ‘holy fuck’ that tumbled from the Trashmouth’s mouth as you and Bill tumbled to the floor, his knees hitting harshly against his stomach as you landed on his lap, the knife skidding away from your grasp.

Your feet kick against his, the floorboards creaking underneath your doubled weight as the tears streak dirty down his cheeks.

‘P-please y/n, please, it’s me.’

He nearly doesn’t notice the small hindrance in your fingers as they wrap around his throat.

‘B-bill? Everything seems so far away Bill. Everything seems so numb.’

Tears rolled down, wetting every part of your cheek before splattering like blood onto his forehead, his fingers digging into and rubbing against yours as he stares into your eyes with a pleading passion.

But all you felt was your own suffocating. In the pain of abandonment you almost forgot how to feel, forgot your life, forgot who you were before Pennywise took you. But this love, this bond, it could never be forgotten.

Before you can speak again however, you feel an unbearable throbbing in the back of your head, tilting down into Bill’s chest as he grips at your shoulders, falling still into his arms as he looks up, dazed and confused, at a shaking Richie, the knife in his hand a second ago now planted firmly in the back of your head.

Good chapter!! VERY GOOD chapter!

I didn't really expect the chapter's main focus to be hanakou even with the promo art, (it didn’t fit the set up themes of the arc) but this still killed something in me

Love how he just went “fuck your evil plans” so quickly. It awakened my a long forgotten wish to have Teru meet the broadcasting club, especially Tsukasa! I love the chapters of him wiping the floor with Hanako and I really wanna see how he would react to his yorishiro just... roaming around, out of a boundary.

And Akane was my favorite his chapter!! I love how he connects the dots that this super suspicious stranger that wants to destroy all the yorishiros have been spying on him, and his reaction to that info gives me “ugh, that’s so annoying I don’t have time for this” vibes

and it is the student's incompetence that makes him snap and crave violence

Speaking of craving violence!

I knew Akane would deny Natsuhiko team up, but I expected a “fuck off” panel, not for Akane to go the extra mile and punch his ass! No words, just let his fists do the talking. What an icon.

Really love Natsuhiko and Sakura too! Glad they got some spotlight!

I am also looking at the heavy implication that not only is Aoi’s hand capable of being healed, but that they have the cure. (or that they would lie to Akane. Also very likely, but I’m being optimistic for once)

How to Vinyl-Wrap an Automobile

Adhesive vinyl can look as great as new paint, at far less cost.

1 How to Vinyl-Wrap an Automobile

If you have ever attempted to apply numbers to a club racing or weekend autocross car, possibilities are you have handled caught air bubbles and misaligned outcomes. Today's top-adhesive-vinyl innovation is much more advanced, permitting pros and Do It Yourself detailers alike to get beautiful results.

Modern adhesive reaches its most sticky state after 24 hr, making it repositionable. The vinyl itself, an extremely formable "cast" vinyl, has channels to allow air to escape, removing bubbles. A factory laminate finish can make the vinyl wrap last up to 10 years. Vinyl called supercast can stretch up to 40 percent, so it can be formed around curves and sharp bumper edges.

Cast-vinyl wrapping began mainly as a way to display marketing on vehicles, however, a growing trend is to utilize solid colors as a replacement for painting a whole automobile, says Molly Waters, a specialist for Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions in Dallas. To see the procedure in action, we traveled to Graphik Concepts in suburban Detroit and watched vinyl-wrap specialists Gordon Nodacker, Chris Lokker, and Mike Allen wrap a plain white Ford Transit Link for a local caterer with repositionable vinyl printed in-house. The entire job took about 10 hours, and these men are excellent: They have even done substantial graphics on the Goodyear blimp, along with special principle cars for car manufacturers.

2 Choose the Vinyl

Typically, the vinyl is offered in 60-inch-wide rolls measuring 25 feet long, which has to do with just how much it takes to wrap a whole car and truck. That much will sell for around $2500-less if there are no graphic components such as stripes, marketing slogans, or images. That does not include labor, which is 6 to 8 hours to wrap common cars and truck, and rates vary widely in various markets. Prices likewise differ depending upon how difficult it is to wrap a particular car. Something like a Chrysler PT Cruiser with a lot of curved sheet metal will take longer and cost a bit more than the more linear car.

3 Prep the Paint

Start with a comprehensive cleaning with paint cleaners and alcohol. Then fix up scratches, dings, and rust. "Working with vinyl is a lot like repainting," Waters states. "If you can feel it, it will show up. A dead bug on the paint will look like a crater under vinyl."

Waters has observed a boost in clients whose organizations need special paint colors, such as Mary Kay cosmetics' famous pink, in addition to with those who want to try out a wild new color. Graphik Concepts' Chris Lokker says one of his customers had a new bright orange Lamborghini but covered it an intense lime green vinyl since he thought there were too many orange Lamborghinis out there. All of these consumers reported an objective to eliminate their wild-colored vinyl when offering their automobiles, hoping that there will be more of a market for the automobiles with their initial paint-which, by the way, is most likely to be in top condition since the vinyl wrap can safeguard paint from scratches, rock chips, and fading from the sun.

4 Get Rid Of Mirrors and Molding

You can cut down the labor time for wrapping if you remove the cars and truck's body parts such as mirrors and molding first. "It might take you 30 minutes to work the vinyl around a mirror," Waters states. "It might just take 5 minutes to get rid of the mirror."

5 Plan the Process

Professional car wrappers will begin the procedure in various methods, depending on the automobile. "The hardest parts are the bumpers, so in some cases, I like to start with them to get them done," Waters says. "Or I'll start with the hood, then transfer to the roofing system. You need to look at the vehicle and see where the breaks in the lines are [to prevent producing seams]" The installer will utilize an energy knife to cut the vinyl into sections that will cover specific body panels. They then tape it on or use magnets to hold it in place while they get rid of the vinyl's support paper to expose the adhesive.

6 Stick It On

As soon as the adhesive is exposed, stick the vinyl onto the center of the body panel, or begin on one side. It can be smoothed out with your hands, or a plastic or Teflon squeegee. Throughout this process, you can extend the vinyl to fit over curves or reposition it. Just take care of how you smooth the vinyl so you avoid kinks or ridges. "If the hood's flat, go leading to bottom," Waters says. "If it's bowed, like a VW Bug, you need to deal with the squeegee in an arc shape to avoid little wrinkles that look like bottle-cap edges."

7 Stretch It Out

" Once you deal with vinyl a bit, you can figure out how to stretch it and let it shrink back," Waters states. Some installers utilize heat guns to encourage the vinyl to stretch. Some even utilize a torch, however it takes practice not to burn the vinyl. Pre extending the vinyl can help it shrink into concave panels such as bumpers.

8 Cut Off the Edges

As soon as the vinyl has stuck to the car, cut off the edges with an energy knife. Waters uses the little kind with breakaway blades. "Really good installers can cut the vinyl with a knife right on the paint and not cut the paint," she includes. Generally, however, you cut the vinyl and after that reapply the edges.

9 Handle Seams

Sometimes seams are inevitable, like when you wrap surfaces such as huge trucks or Viper hoods that are wider than 60 inches. Some installers will overlap sheets of vinyl and cut a joint with a knife. Others will overlap a joint with the edge facing away from the line of sight of the car. An item called knifeless tape uses a filament thread made from thin Kevlar to the automobile body under the vinyl. After the vinyl sheet has followed the cars and truck body over the thread, the thread is sharp enough that it can be pulled through the vinyl, cutting it exactly. Other installers use pinstriping to conceal joints. Waters states that when the task's done right, the joint disappears: "I have needed to go up and touch an automobile to discover a joint."

10 Elimination

Modern cast-vinyl wraps are long-lasting detachable, which implies the adhesive is not created to be irreversible. The color and laminate finishes are also designed to last for 10 years, which suggests at some time they require to be gotten rid of. "It's still not fun to eliminate any vinyl wrap," Waters says. Since I revamped my blog this month, I thought I’d do a little survey on Twitter to ask how y’all would like these books rated—should I use my rainbow system from #diverseladybookproject, or should I continue with my wacky number of dogs petted system. Well. The people have spoken. And the dogs have been petted.

A reminder of how the rating system works:

0 dogs petted: DNF. I couldn't get through the book. It's not a good day.

1 dog petted: It was an okay day. I mean, I got to pet a dog. But it could have been better.

2 dogs petted: A solid effort. May recommend.

3 dogs petted: A really good day, tbh. Would recommend willingly to friends and family.

4 or more dogs petted: Best day. Will be recommending to all the people. Pet all the dogs.

March was both a good and a bad month for books. I DNFed two books this month. YES, TWO. It’s a first, both for me and for my time on this blog. Would you believe that I haven’t DNFed a book since I started writing about what I’ve been reading on this blog? That’s almost a year’s worth of books! And these are my first DNFs. I’ll explain why on both accounts, don’t worry.

Well. Let’s get started. You might be here a while.

Everything Belongs to Us by Yoojin Grace Wuertz

After being up late into the night finishing The Last of August at the end of February, I was in a major book hangover. MAJOR BOOK HANGOVER. I was sort of trying to read this book, and I thought I couldn’t get into it because of said book hangover. But then I had the privilege of meeting Brittany Cavallaro and realized, nah. I just wasn’t into this book.

The premise sounds awesome. Two young women tell the stories of their lives in South Korea in the late 1970s. I wanted to like it. And really, maybe I will like it at some other point in my life, when I have more time to devote to a sprawling story that is more character-based than action-based. I haven’t ruled out that possibility. But here’s the thing—I was 15% in, and I still hadn’t met the second young woman that this book was supposedly about. In fact, the first chapter was from the point of view of a guy who seemingly has nothing to do with the story? I was confused and frustrated and bored. So I scrapped it. But like I said, I’m not ruling out trying again when I’m in a different mindset.

Rating: 0 dogs petted—DNF at 15%.

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

I got back into fairly regular running and hiking with the dogs after a goofy start to the year and brought Lauren Oliver along with me. (She’s a runner, so I think she’d approve.) This is the second book in the Delirium trilogy, and I was terrified that it was going to suffer from middle book syndrome. And it did, in some regards—Alex was gone, the setting was completely different, and it was sort of like a whole other story, unrelated to the first book. But the threads tied back to Delirium, and I enjoyed the new characters and plot. I won’t say I liked this book better than Delirium, because it was so different. But I did enjoy listening to it a lot. I’m not going to say any more about the plot so that I don’t spoil the first book, but yeah, it was good. I’d recommend that people complete the trilogy.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

OH MY GOD.

You’ve already heard me talk about this book some, and it’s worth all the hype. Here’s the premise: Starr Carter lives two lives. She’s the daughter of a former gangbanger and lives in the rough part of town, but she also attends a wealthy, mostly-white private high school. She has a white boyfriend, but is terrified of bringing him home to meet her father. You get the idea. One night, she’s at a spring break party in her neighborhood when shots are fired, so she leaves with her childhood best friend Khalil. On the way home, they’re pulled over for no apparent reason. Khalil is frisked. When he’s checking to make sure Starr is okay, he’s shot by the white police officer, even though he is unarmed and is not resisting. Starr is the only witness, and it’s her word against the white cop’s. Her worlds are colliding, and she has to learn how to live in both of them while being true to herself.

I think I’ve stated that this book was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, and it shows on every single page. It bleeds relevancy and politics and everything that we’re not supposed to talk about in books for young adults. But young adults are the ones who are going to change the world. Remember that.

I’m never going to shut up about this book. And Angie Thomas, the author, is lovely and wonderful and deserves all of the praise that she’s received.

Rating: 4+ dogs petted. If you want to read this book and either can’t afford it or don’t want to buy it, I’ll buy it for you. I’m serious. Everyone needs to read this book. I’m all over social media. Find me and I’ll make it happen.

The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

This was my other DNF this month. I’m wondering if the pattern has more to do with when I’m reading these books than the content of the books themselves, but that’s a contemplation for another time. This is another one that I really wanted to like. Tea is a necromancer, so she has to leave home with the brother she brought back from the dead to train and hone her skills. Also there’s a war brewing, but I didn’t get that far. I found it to be slow and boring. The concept is completely awesome, but I think it just wasn’t for me. Or maybe it wasn’t for me at that time. In any case, I DNFed. Although I promised some Twitter people (hi, Twitter people!) that I’d give it another try down the road, and I will.

Rating: 0 dogs petted—DNF at 20%.

Requiem by Lauren Oliver

As with Pandemonium, I’m not going to say a lot about the plot to this one here. It’s the third book in the Delirium trilogy and the best of the bunch, in my opinion. Lena picks the story up right where Pandemonium left off (that ending, omg), and surprise! We get Hana’s perspective too! That was one of my favorite things about this book—Hana has been cured, so her perspective is different and interesting. Sarah Drew does a fantastic job, once again, of helping me get inside the character’s heads to feel what they’re feeling (because I listened on audio while I was running and hiking and driving in the car). And Alex was back. I repeat. We got more Alex. Hallelujah, because he’s the best and even though I hate myself a little for it, he and Lena are one of my OTPs. Fight me.

Rating: 3 dogs petted, only because the dystopian genre is a little old now and I’m not sure who I’d recommend this one to.

Since You Asked… by Maureen Goo

The way this list is organized is a little confusing, but I started reading Since You Asked… right after I DNFed The Bone Witch. I wanted something light and contemporary, and I had picked this up at the North Texas Teen Book Festival, where Maureen Goo was promoting her upcoming release I Believe in a Thing Called Love. I chose this particular book after The Bone Witch because YA contemporary often helps me get out of reading slumps and I wanted a cute high school romance. That uh… that wasn’t what I got.

Since You Asked… is what I would consider a slice-of-life book. Nothing huge happens in the plot, really, and there isn’t a big arc that takes us to the end. It just sort of exists. It was fine—not knowing whether Holly would ever get with her friend David was part of what kept me reading. (Yeah, I shipped Holly and David HARD, and I don’t regret it.) I finished it in 24 hours and was left feeling a little let down, but I still enjoyed the read. And the cover! It’s got a great cover. I don’t know, I rated it 4 stars on Goodreads right after finishing it, but I think I’m going to downgrade it to 3. The lack of plot arc has been niggling at me. But it was cool to see an entire book told from the perspective of a Korean-American high school student. That aspect reminded me a lot of Lane from Gilmore Girls.

Was that review wishy-washy enough? Ha.

Rating: 2 dogs petted. I loved Goo’s writing style and am really excited for her upcoming release, so I’ll be reading her again!

Done Dirt Cheap by Sarah Nicole Lemon

THIS BOOK. I’m not sure how I’m going to write about this. I have no cans to even right now. I looked at my review on Goodreads and it’s mostly me repeating “THIS BOOK” in all caps with hearts at the end. Hahaha.

The synopsis is simple enough: Tourmaline Harris thinks she put her mother in prison by calling the cops when she was ODing, and now her mother’s former boyfriend and dealer are after her. This is on top of already living in the dark world of a motorcycle “club,” which her father is the president of. (Yes, there are lots of motorcycles in this book and I WAS THERE FOR IT.) At the same time, Virginia Campbell is given the assignment by her boss to weasel her way into the good graces of said motorcycle club, but won’t tell her why. Virginia’s life is equally dark—she was essentially sold to a drug dealer who moonlights as a lawyer by her mother when she couldn’t pay her legal fees. Said drug dealer (fittingly named Hazard) turned Virginia into a pageant queen and a lower-level drug dealer to pay off the debt. As Virginia attempts her mission, Tourmaline is in need of a friend. Oh, and they both have swoony love stories and I was a puddle on the floor at the end because of the feels.

Bonus points for kickass ladies (Tourmaline and Virginia, plus some), a wonderfully complicated female friendship, complex family dynamics, a POC love interest who actually VERBALLY DISCUSSES WITHIN THE STORY what it’s like to be black in the South and what that might mean for them, and a veteran who has seen stuff and is afraid to be vulnerable but finds his equal and OH MY GOD I’m puddling again.

THIS BOOK. <3 <3 <3

Rating: 4+ dogs petted. I love this book so much. Words are hard. Swoon.

Alice: The Wanderland Chronicles by J.M. Sullivan

Where do I even begin! I’ve been waiting and WAITING for the opportunity to read this book by my lovely friend J.M. ever since I first heard about it. Who can resist an Alice retelling with zombies? Okay, hi, I actually don’t think I would have picked this up at all if it weren’t for my friendship with J.M.—I’ve never been a fan of retellings, for some reason! And zombies freak me out! After I stressfully asked her if I would be scared reading this before bed and she laughed at me (LOL), I dove right in. And oh my gosh, y’all. It’s so good! I don’t feel like I need to dive into the plot too much, since you should all know the story of Alice in Wonderland, and it’s just that with a twist. There’s Alice. There’s adventure as she fights the zombies while trying to save her sister from becoming one. There’s a hint of love, there��s the characters you love (again, with a twist), and there’s a kickass teenage main character. What more could you possibly ask for in fantasy literature! Go read it go read it go read it!! (Alice releases on May 16, 2017—full review to come the week before the release!)

Rating: 4 dogs petted! This was so fun (and not scary, I promise)!

On The Fence by Kasie West

On March 31st, I decided that I should read this YA contemporary novel that was billed as a possible comp title to Something Beautiful because it had a friends-to-more plotline. I figured it would be my first book of Backlist April. I even billed it as such in last week’s Friday Reads! But guess what I did?

… I stayed up until 2 am finishing it in a single sitting. Oops?

Here’s the rundown:

Charlie just finished her sophomore year of high school and has the whole summer ahead of her. She’s looking forward to running, basketball camp, and lounging around, like a typical teenager. But on her first day of summer vacation, she gets a speeding ticket, which prompts her police officer dad to force her to get a job to cover the cost. Working part time leads to less time for running, which causes her to not be able to sleep some nights. So she starts spending some of the hours in the middle of the night chatting with her neighbor Braden through the fence that separates their yards about all the things she can’t seem to say to him during the day. Braden is practically her brother… right? OR IS HE MORE???

(Capital letters added for emphasis are my own doing, not the publisher’s. Ha.)

This was the cutest. I was on board with Charlie and Braden from the very first page, and I loved that he (obviously) saw more in her than she ever saw in herself. I don’t know why I waited so long to read a Kasie West book, because her writing reminded me a lot of Sarah Dessen (one of my faves). And, for those who want to know, On The Fence is a great comp title for the first half of Something Beautiful. If you’re into that sort of thing.

Rating: 3 dogs petted. Light. Fluffy. Cute boys and a girl’s journey to self-discovery. Just not, like, a deep book. You know?
