It feels like the entirety of the morning sky pours in through the great glass windows, striking dazzling beams off the mosaic tiles of the floor and into Jinana's face as s/he blinks half-awake, squinting in the brilliance.

A mumbled word and a vague gesture release the heavy curtains of the bed, bringing a blessed shade. This seems to rouse Nadia where the sunlight could not, thick lashes parting and crimson eyes fixing on her bed partner. She smiles, reaching out to push Jinana's loose hair back from hir face with gentle fingers.

"How can you sleep through that?" Jinana asks, hir voice husky from sleep and from a long night of talking over wine and cordials... and all of that before the pleasures of the bed.

"One becomes accustomed, I suppose." Nadia's own voice is low and smoky. She stretches her long, elegant limbs, the motion causing the plaited rope of her hair to snake its way over the edge of the bed and the sheet to slip from her shapely breasts. "Would you like me to call for breakfast in bed?"

Jinana sits up for a stretch of hir own, smiling as Nadia's eyes wander over hir nude body with a refreshingly frank interest. "Hmmm. Define breakfast? We might have everything we need right here."

Nadia laughs and reaches for hir, pulling Jinana down on top of her. "I am never averse to starting the day with a bit of a treat." Her hands begin to glide over Jinana's body, and Jinana's lips to travel over Nadia's soft, pampered skin.

There's a bakery on the way to the far grocery store that has a vending machine outside. Inside the vending machine are macrons.

The macrons are not labeled. They're just different colors.

So I like to stop and get one because it's a fun game of what flavor an I going to try today. Except for green, I never get green. Green is always either matcha or pistachio, and I dislike both.

It should be of note I have no food allergies, so this is not a dangerous game.

Today was Earl grey, and strawberry.

Earl grey was decent, but not really my favorite. I was disappointed because it was white with speckles so I thought it would be cookies and cream. Strawberry was terrible, very clearly artificially flavored and bleh.

Next week I hope for better.

And better baking, no crisp outer shell and very little foot on the cookies. I live making macron cookies, it's the filing that I suck at.

Hey, don't cry. Mix 40-ish grams softened butter with 20-ish grams of powdered sugar until cohesive. Add 40-ish grams of flour and mix until a very soft dough forms. Shape into a log inside of some parchment paper and place in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Heat the oven to 170°C. Cut the log into 1/2 cm-ish thick pieces and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Put in oven for 15–20 minutes. They shouldn't brown too much. Take out, let cool, eat your shortbread.

#this amount is great for 2-3 people #you can use salted butter or add salt if you want #you can soften your butter with very short bursts in the microwave #you can technically use non-powdered sugar #the texture just ends up different #you can make powdered sugar with any knife spinning device #blender or food processor or whatever #hey don't cry #let them cool down dammit #you can add things for extra flavors #like spices and citrus peels and stuff #but they're good as is #shortbread #biscuits #cookies #recipe #biscuit recipe #easy recipe

I forgot how much fun it was to actually cut out cookies in cute shapes and now I'm itching to do more even though I've got a whole plate of shortbreads to myself. If I do the rosemary again, I'm either leaving the amount of rosemary I added the same and upping the lemon content or decreasing the amount of rosemary. Possibly both since I want the cookies to be pretty lemon heavy.

Okay, let's get something straight here: cilantro does not taste like soap. Yes, I have the cilantro-tastes-bad gene, and yes, it is disgusting and overpowering and has a bitterness and aftertaste to it that's about as pleasant as tasting the soapy residue in your drink from a hand-washed cup that wasn't rinsed properly. But the flavor itself is NOTHING like soap.

Now, that being said, I have a new shampoo that smells just like cilantro when I'm towel-drying my hair.

#my sister describes cilantro as citrussy and likened it to lemongrass #which is wild because I LOVE citrus in all forms AND lemongrass #and that is nowhere close to what I taste when I taste cilantro #it just tastes like a plant that died and came back wrong #though funnily enough I'm just fine with coriander #(NOT the same thing—same plant yes but different parts and therefore different flavors)
