the costume design in the 1957 adaptation of Oedipus Rex has to be some of the most beautiful I've ever seen in a theatrical production. loving this already.

just watched Vampires Suck (2010) for the first time
and wow.
Firstly, for whatever reason didn't expect it to be such high quality. I should stop underestimating parodies, I guess. (And the plot made so much sense, given how chaotic the whole thing was)
Also, the music was on point, I need to find the soundtrack now!
And honestly, comedy is the genre. The movie was hilarious and exactly what I needed right now. (Bonus points for showing me everything I could possibly like about Twilight without actually being/making me watch Twilight)
new comfort movie ??? lol

i really love when something is for adults but it isnt all sex drugs violence racism xenophobia homophobia sexism etc. its so easy to just make something dark and offensive, and honestly really boring and unfunny, but its so creative to make jokes or even a whole cartoon or movie thats for adults in a way that kids just wouldnt see it in the same way and it makes it for a unique perspective.
like snow white is an adults movie. when kids see it they see a beautiful princess and lots of propaganda for being a traditional housewife, but thats not what it was for. it was for adults post war that wanted to go back to being young and having a simple life where men just went to work and came back with money and women could just stay at home cleaning and baking and everything. its dreamy escapism with the purpose of reminding adults of untraumatized easier times that they craved for so badly
and adult jokes that are simply things that kids dont find funny but adults find hilarious, first thing that comes to mind is shrek's "we're from the union buddy" because i absolutely love that joke and it only gets funnier as the years pass by
when watching betty boop i always loved how fun and silly and insane it was because modern adult shows are so grounded in reality, but the first adult shows were like this flapper woman goes to see her step mother and runs from the knights but then they realize how lonely and dad she was and they feel sad for her and let her go and she runs away in the mountains and rolls down the ice and goes down the icey water but goes back up in now an ice coffin as her witch step mother chases her and turns her friend into a ghost and her step mother turns into a dragon- like its insane and so amazing to watch. that was what got looney tunes famous in the first place, it was for adults but it was simply fun and there were so many jokes adults would be the only ones able to appreciate it.
i just love it. i write it in e&j from time to time because im so in love with this kind of creative writing and i think it fits perfectly in a show where the whole cast is full of young adults. i want to let them be adults, and i want that to be something that gets to be funny and free and positive because being an adult isnt bad and you dont stop having the qualities associated with young people like being chaotic and funny the second you turn 20
god i love writing characters that behave accurately to their age and even spinning it a little bit in a way thats still accurate but not often portrayed- like bell being a very mature child but still being a child and therefore having so much to learn and being so impulsive and having such intense emotions, fathom being responsible and mature but choosing to be a damn clown and being super silly and funny and 'imature' exactly because they're the oldest and mature and therefore know the value and necessity of pleasing your inner child, and the others all being on their early twenties so they can all be pretty imature because they're still grasping the concept of responsability and maturity, and they simply let themselves enjoy adulthood and enjoy being chaotic and fun and flirty and even childish but not in the way a kid is childish but in a "i was never allowed to be childish when younger so im doing it now that im an adult" way and still figuring out life and their place in their community and society
its just so!!!! ahhh!!!! i fucking LOVE IT

people like to joke that batman is a furry but my hottest batman take is that batman is actually a metaphor for gender expression and drag (he is performing hyper masculinity)

when talking about fleabag, we all talk about "I love you"/" it'll pass" but what we don't talk about maybe cause it's implied, maybe cause just quoting this encapsulates the feeling but listen,
the lines go fleabag saying "I love you" and the hot priest says "it'll pass" and THEN HE SAYS "i love you too"
idk if you have to name it to know it, but the fact that he confesses his love for her, the fact that he chose God, the fact that despite right person-wrong time or maybe wrong person-right time, despite all that, it'll pass. The love wasn't unrequited but the choice was. the subsequent grief, heartbreak, it'll pass
this is just earth-shattering, cause the only person that truly saw her, loved her for what she was, didn't choose her, and no matter what it'll pass. as if the greatest heartbreak of life is that it keeps moving on and you have to move on with it POETIC CINEMA

“There's nothing new in human experience, Mr. Tully. Each generation thinks it invented debauchery or suffering or rebellion, but man's every impulse and appetite from the disgusting to the sublime is on display right here all around you. So, before you dismiss something as boring or irrelevant, remember, if you truly want to understand the present or yourself, you must begin in the past. You see, history is not simply the study of the past. It is an explanation of the present.” - Paul Hunham to Angus Tully
