Khi có vài ba tỷ đô rồi thì đa ngành, mở thêm mảng khác. Buổi trưa, ở các khách sạn ven vịnh biển khu Harbour, thương nhân hay ngồi trầm ngâm, vừa ăn vừa nhìn xuống vịnh cảng, nơi các con thuyền đi qua đi lại, nghĩ cách giao thương với thế giới. Tui làm QC (quality control), kiểm tra nguyên liệu, thành phẩm, mẫu mã bao bì, nhưng chỉ là tập sự, đi theo mấy anh chị cứng nghề. Rảnh rỗi là tụi tui đi khảo sát các nhà máy nhỏ trong mấy xã xa xôi để đánh giá xem có hợp tác được hay không. Thường các nhà máy này giá rẻ hơn, do công nhân rẻ, nhà nước ưu đãi vốn. Ở Trung Quốc, cứ mở nhà máy ở huyện ở xã nghèo là được cấp vốn lãi vay bằng 0.
Bữa về lại Hongkong để đánh giá thì tui thấy trong 1 loạt tiêu chí, có tiêu chí "quản lý nhà máy có đẹp trai không" trong báo cáo, làm tui cười sặc sụa. Bản thân chẳng biết thế nào là đẹp thì hàng hoá làm ra chẳng thể nào đẹp, óc thẩm mỹ họ không có hoặc không quan tâm đến. Tui hỏi, hàng hoá cũng như con người, cứ tốt là được rồi mà, phải không. Ổng không chịu, nói tốt chưa đủ, phải kèm với đẹp thì mới thành TỐT ĐẸP.
