hello and welcome back! childhood friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes ever !! it’s so cute and wholesome?? anyways here’s a guide to writing childhood friends to lovers, hope it’s helpful!

make the friendship a large part of the story

if you’re writing a friendship that is going to turn into something more, that’s a very obvious trope to the reader. that’s totally okay, as long as you make the trope enjoyable. the friendship is the slow burn of the story, and that’s where the tension and conflict builds. don’t ignore the friendship aspect, because it’s the part everyone hate-loves.

let it be awkward at first

the beginnings of relationships between people who have a very strong friendship will always be awkward, because no matter how much they like each other romantically, the shift from platonic to romantic is still very strange. however, the awkwardness should be somewhat entertaining, whether it be a cute awkward, an angsty awkward, or a comedic one. This depends on the characters’ own coping mechanisms with discomfort.

make the reader care

your characters have to really need each other in some way. this usually translates to “you’re my really good friend and i lean on you for most emotional support and if this doesn’t go my way, you might cut me out of your life”. this risk, in particular, should be somewhat plausible, so the reader knows there are stakes to be wary of. the reader shouldn’t be totally comfortable in saying “well it’s a love story so of course everything will work out fine” the whole time. there should be doubt.

get the reader to ship your characters

first, you have to make your readers care about the characters individually, then show the reader that the characters complement each other, and make each other better. show the reader that the characters are, at the core, supportive and kind to each other, and that they push the other to improve and try to be happy, even if that happiness doesn’t come from them. show the reader why they would be happy together, and then the reader will want that for them.

hint at the beginning of romance

there will be small, tiny things that your characters do or say that will not seem super romantic at first, but once they build up in the reader’s memory, will connect to create that tone in their mind. you have to trust your reader to pick up on the little things, especially because they picked up a romance story on purpose.

delay the romance

the romance should be plenty delayed by the development of their existing friendship and budding emotions toward each other. if you’re starting your story in the middle of them pining after each other, that takes away a lot of the development time, and it doesn’t allow the reader to understand the dynamic of their friendship before you completely change it.

avoid “lust at first sight”

these characters are friends at first, and friends don’t lust after each other. it’s perfectly alright for your characters to acknowledge the fact that their friend is attractive, but the friendship dynamic sort of means they didn’t think much of it at the beginning. if you take that away, you just have people who aren’t dating but like each other, and then they’re dating, which isn’t friendship to lovers.

don’t force it

if you’re struggling with fixing the way you’ve written the romance following the first draft being completed, my advice is to go back, read through the story, and find the scenes that suggest a romance. observe the way that they build upon each other and how they work to push the romance forward. if a scene seems very sudden and forward, change it. don’t mistake the problem to be the big scenes either. the little scenes build up, and they’re usually what are screwing everything up.

establish their friendship dynamic

whether it be through banter that slowly turns into subtle flirting, or making horribly offensive jokes that make each other laugh, or making odd inside references, you have to find a unique way that accurately portrays two things: a) the way your characters interact with each other, and each other alone, and b) how your characters enjoy each other’s company. it doesn’t have to be through conversation either. maybe they have a special place they only go to with each other, or they have a certain routine they follow when they’re together, or a specific way to interacting with each other’s families. find a way to establish their friendship that is unique to your story and your characters.

My Top 5 Gay Barbie ships

As an avid Barbie fan and a lesbian, I feel like it was only a matter of time until I made this. I think we can all agree that the Barbie movies blessed us with some of the best lesbian relationships gal pals of our childhoods, and I guess this is just my way of paying homage to my favorites. A little disclaimer, this is all just my opinion, so I'm sorry if your favorite ship isn't here.

5. Kristyn and Hailey - Barbie and the Pink Shoes

Starting out with a painfully underrated ship from a painfully underrated movie, we've got Kristyn and Hailey. In my opinion, Barbie and the Pink Shoes is the funniest Barbie movie, and these two are a big part of the reason why. They bounce off of each other really well, they have a great and believable daydreamer/down to earth dynamic, and their relationship is really sweet. I mean, it's hard to watch two people navigating an unknwon world together with no one to count on but each other and not end up shipping them. Plus, the scene where Hailey gets captured by the snow queen and Kristyn runs crying through the frozen road always breaks my heart.

4. Mariposa and Catania - Barbie Mariposa and the fairy princess

I'm gonna be honest, the way the pairings went in the Mariposa franchise actually makes me kinda bitter. And that's because they had these two characters who I think are perfect for each other, but they totally disregard their relationship for the sake of pairing Mariposa with Prince Carlos (who is honestly just a male version of her).

I mean, seriously - Mariposa and Catania have this Romeo and Juliet type of story, being from rival fairy kingdoms and all, and it would definetely have ended in romance if this was a het ship. Catania is the only one who's kind to Mariposa from the start, she bothers to learn about her culture and to make her feel welcome in her kingdom, and she trusts her blindly even when everyone around her tells her she shouldn't. In return, Mariposa listens to Catania about her struggles, and does everything in her power to help her overcome them. They have a lot in common and a lot to teach each other, their relationship development feels very natural, and their bond is what saves the day in the end. But nooo, Barbie has to end up with the prince. Smh.

3. Barbie and Sal-Lee - Barbie Starlight Adventure

These two probably have the most down to earth relationship in this list, ironically. They have no big dramatic bonding moment, no speech about believing in each other, and their love isn't what saves the universe. It's all very simple and low key, and that's kind of what I like about it.

I love how nervous Barbie is to meet Sal-Lee in the beggining, how it takes a little while for them to get used to each other, and how even in the end there's still a bit of healthy competition between them. You can tell both of them weren't what the other one was expecting, but once they get to know each other, they realize they're something even better, and I think that's really great. I also love how Sal-Lee gets all protective of Barbie, always looking out for her in the end. Overall, their relationship is just very wholesome and comforting. 10/10.

2. Merliah and Kylie - Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2

Rivals to lovers, anyone? Truly one of the best relationship tropes out there, and it was executed beautifully in this movie.

Merliah's and Kylie's flirty rivalry in the beggining is everything, and I like how it's not one sided. Like, Merliah isn't the nice "let's all be friends" girl who's being cornered by mean girl Kylie, they're both mutually competitive, which is pretty unique for a Barbie movie. And, of course, as their relationship develops, all of their scenes are just the cutest and the gayest.

Kylie saying "since when does the queen of the waves give up?" when she's pulling Merliah out of that whirpool? Amazing.

The two of them holding hands while swimming together? Beautiful.

Merliah swooning over everything Kylie says, from her plans to her bad jokes? Lovely.

And the whole ending sequence to that movie lives in my head rent free. Merliah is all upset over being a mermaid forever because, in her own words, this means she can't surf with Kylie anymore. Then she turns human again and gets to compete with her one more time, but with love instead of animosity. And finally, the two of them thank each other for everything they got to learn together and agree to share the 1st place trophy. Incredible. Lesbian excellency. Love it with my whole heart.

1. Liana and Alexa - Barbie and the Diamond Castle

Surprising no one, Alexa and Liana get the 1st place, and for a good reason. To this day, they're the biggest wlw icons from any Barbie movie ever. Everyone has seen the posts talking about how the colours of their dresses are the colours of the lesbian flag and the bi flag, or about how they're the og cottagecore lesbians, or about how there's a scene in the movie where the two of them literally float away from their "love interests" on a rainbow, and they're all 100% right.

But while the sheer amount of gayness these two have is great, I still think this isn't the best part of their relationship. The best part, I think, is just how devoted they are to each other.

Like, we know they regularly write songs about how happy they are together, and both of them consider their relationship to be the best part of their lives. They take care of each other in a way that is so casual but still so meaningful, and you can tell it comes from a place of real love. When they get the chance to make a wish, they don't even have to think before wishing to be together forever. And throughout the movie, we see them risk their lives and rethink their values for the sake of keeping the other one happy and safe.

They're not just my favorite barbie ship, they're one of my favorite ships of all time, and they totally deserve all of the praise they get.

Hi again!!! This is probably obvious from my blog, but 90% of the fictional media that I consume belongs to the romance genre, so I kind of have a lot of fave ships. But the ones I'm most obsessed with keep changing depending on the stuff I last read/watched, except for a few that I'm stuck with forever. Btw, other than the first one (which will forever remain my top ship), this is in no particular order. I actually tried to put them in order, but every time I reached the end, I would feel like the ones at the bottom are way too low, so ultimately, I just removed all the numbers😅.

Misaki x Usui (Kaichou wa Maid-sama - manga)

This was the first ship that I really obsessed over. The tough, independent and reliable girl, who despises men and the smooth, flirtatious guy who breaks down her walls, and by God, their relationship is just overflowing with chemistry.

Shinichi x Ran (Detective Conan - anime)

I'm a sucker for the childhood friends to lovers trope. The combination of their natural intimacy and mutual pining totally holds my heart captive.

Hak x Yona (Akatsuki no Yona - manga)

Childhood friends to lovers + Princess and bodyguard + The slowest of slow burns = One of the most heart-throbbing combinations ever.

Zen x Shirayuki (Akagami no Shirayuki-hime - manga)

The thing I love the most about this couple is that there was no drama, conflicts or misunderstandings between them. They met, they became friends and eventually fell in love with each other. They didn't have to overcome tons of obstacles to get together. They are one of the simplest and most realistic relationships I've seen portrayed in fiction.

Mikoto Ochiai x Haiba Jin (Tsuiraku JK to Haijin Kyoushi - manga)

An obsessive, possessive, super co-dependent relationship, involving stalking, spying, and a 10-yr age gap with one of them still being a minor, between two depressed, suicidal people, is probably not something I had ever thought would land in my favourites lists. But I guess, life's full of surprises, right? Btw, despite the above statement, this is one of the most wholesome mangas I've ever read.

Mion x Wataru (Pretty Rhythm - anime)

They are the first couple that I ever shipped. The series has a really small fandom, so I remember reading the same fanfics again and again and again.

Naruse x Yuki (Namaikizakari - manga)

These two are absolutely adorable. Until I read this, I was never too into the younger guy x older girl trope. But now I find it super cute.

Nana x Hachi (NANA - manga)

The only non-canon pairing in this list, but they are so close to each other and have such strong bonds that they are practically soulmates and I can't help but ship them.

Christian x Gianna (The Maddest Obsession - books)

Romance novels are the category of fiction that takes me the least time to finish (like 1 per day), so the couples don't usually stick around in my head too long. These two are one of the few that actually did and they're totally not getting out of it any time soon. Christian might have been a stalkerish jerk irl, but his love for Gianna makes him like the hottest thing in fiction.

Yuan Shuai x Jiang Jun (Love Is Sweet - cdrama)

I think this is the only asian drama that I regularly come back to every few months. The guy is super doting towards her and their chemistry is just off the charts. The two make up for one of the most adorable couples ever.

Yayoi x Ura (Mugen Spiral - manga)

I'll forever be upset with the fact that this manga got cancelled after the second volume. Human x Demon (or any other supernatural creature) has always been a weakness for me, and then you add in the enemies to lovers and the cohabitation aspect, that's got to be one of my dream ships.

I was tagged by the brilliant @btsmosphere who created this fun tag game and I am in love!!!

so! the rules are: say what trope you associate each of the boys with the most, and why (not limited to the ones I’ve picked here)

Jin: established relationship

I always put jin in an established relationship because he husband material. Emotionally mature, o comforting, and sweet. Everything about him feels certain. When I think of Jin I think of stability and being content.

Yoongi: bad boy x good girl

Okay I always think of corruption with Yoongi. Weather it be the corruption of his own ambition for success, a slightly toxic relationship, or just a very sexy one with lots of tension. So bad boy x good girl, CEO x intern, ect. I put him there.

Hoseok: underdog x mentor?

This is not a trope but it certainly should be it’s like a wholesome cousin of ceo x intern in a way. Think the student becomes a master type of situation. Hoseok trenches you the reigns and you become a formidable rival in what ever feild of work it is be it dancing, assassinations, an office job. A romance blossoming from a training type setting.

Namjoon: academic rivals to lovers

Okay I want angst but I want smart university, competing for the same funding grant and hate fucking in a supply closet kind of angst. I also feel like this dynamic is present outside of romance in my writing like in No Harm List the face off between RM and the reader is often a battle of wits and scheming. Namjoon just has a big sexy brain and I cannot ignore it.

Jimin: childhood friends to lover or partners in crime to lovers:

It’s so wholesome it’s so sweet but somehow it feels forbidden. Lots of pining lots of yerning lots of hand holding. Knowing each other so well you don't have to speak. Soft moments that could almost lead to a kiss. Jimin would respect your boundaries. You wouldn’t know you were setting them.

Taehyung: strangers to lovers

Ugh I love falling in love with Tae. He’s one of the easiest for me to write and fall and love with so I love starting from the beginning some kind of meet cute maybe. He has so many quirks and neat interests it’s easy to write him in multiple settings without it being competitive (like it would be if I wrote Jungkook) that being said I love to write some pretty intense angst or enemies to lovers with tae from time to time.

Jungkook: idiots to lovers

Chaos. When I write Jungkook it’s chaotic it is never meet cute it’s more like almost die but somehow made it out alive and now we’re at Waffle House with an adrenaline rush kinda situation. It’s normally strangers to lovers. Bc I think getting to know Jungkook and dealing with his awkward panic and then unwrapping more and more of him is the best part. There may be some rivalries with him something about jk triggers my fight or flight so I have a hard time writing casually with him.

hii! do you have any chinese drama recommendations? i'm desperately in need of some good cdramas, and you seem to have great taste! :-)

Of course :) here’s a somewhat lengthy list of my favorite cdramas that I would recommend you watch! Almost all of these are available on either Netflix, Youtube, Viki, or the IQIYI app. If you have trouble finding links let me know!

Go Ahead (40 episodes): Hands down my favorite modern cdrama of all time. It follows these three children to adulthood who all come from dysfunctional families. They end up becoming this big found family with a widowed father who runs a noodle shop + a police officer. It’s adorable, hilarious, and absolutely heartbreaking. I still can’t listen to the OST without bawling my eyes out. If you like the found family trope and slice-of-life dramas go ahead and check this out. (spoiler alert: it DOES have a happy ending!!)

The Untamed (50 episodes): I feel like I don’t need to explain this but in case you haven’t watched this I really recommend you do! The length is daunting (I’m still watching it right now) and it’s confusing but it’s worth it.

Lovely Us (16 episodes): This is a hidden little gem that I wish more people would talk about. It takes place in 2007 and it’s about this group of friends who navigate high school, first love, family problems, and life together. It reminds me so much of the Korean drama series Reply because of the bond between the friends, family, and the neighborhood. This drama gives me the feeling of being wrapped up in a big blanket while drinking hot chocolate. You will find it hard to dislike ANY of the characters.

The Bad Kids (12 episodes): Okay @ EVERYONE please go watch this masterpiece of a drama I’m begging you. This is a crime/thriller/mystery about these three kids who witness a murder and essentially blackmails the murderer. It’s one of the best dramas I have ever watched. The acting, especially from the children, is phenomenal. I don’t think many people have watched this and it sucks because it’s so so good. I don’t want to give a ton of info about this because of spoilers but if you like crime/thrillers or dramas that generally explore the human psyche check this out! It’s pretty dark though so be aware of that!

The Romance of the Tiger and Rose (24 episodes): This is about this modern day script writer who gets transported into her own story! Except plot twist: instead of being the FL she ends up playing the role of an insignificant character who dies early in the story. Obviously she ends up defying this early death and changes the storyline completely. Along the way she gains enemies, falls in love, and well...creates chaos. It’s incredibly adorable, hilarious, and refreshing! The main romance between the script writer + the prince is swoon worthy (and kind of ridiculous in the best of ways).

Put Your Head on My Shoulder (24 episodes): The best way to describe this drama is that it’s just pure fluff. There is zero angst which some would find boring because there isn’t that many conflicts but honestly? I loved every second of it. It’s about these two college students on the cusp of graduating who ends up moving in with each other. It follows the basic “bubbly FL and cold ML” formula but in reality the ML is never mean to her at all. Rather he’s just socially awkward and clueless about love. It’s my go to comfort show to watch and it always brings a smile on my face.

The Best of You In My Mind (24 episodes): Childhood friends to lovers gets me every time and this drama really delivers on that front. It’s about this veterinary student and this archery player who attempt to navigate the woes of young adulthood. The romance is super cute and so are the side characters! It does focus a lot on archery + the team the ML is on but I thought it was interesting.

A Little Thing Called First Love (36 episodes): This is one of the most wholesome and sweetest dramas I have every watched. It’s about this shy/awkward girl who falls in love with one of the most popular guys in schools. They end up at the same college and slowly shift from friends to lovers. But this is a slow burn so if that is not your style you might want to stay away. Still, the wait was worth it because the ML and FL are honestly just awkward little puppies :)

Winter Begonia (49 episodes): I’m still watching this so I have no clue how this ends but EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP SLEEPING ON THIS!!! This is in the same boat as the Untamed and The Guardian in which it’s based on a BL novel but is censored. It’s about this Peking opera performer and a wealthy businessman in the 1930′s-1940′s. It explores the Japanese invasion in Beiping and how the ML’s + characters around them struggle with it. Even if it’s censored it’s pretty clear to tell that the ML’s are in love with the way they look at each other and their actions. Plus they call each other soulmates so like...yeah. But it is a quite heavy historical drama full of angst so it’s understandable why this would not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Take My Brother Away (30 episodes): Yet another gem that is not talked about that much. This is about a pair of siblings who become codependent on each other because their mother left + father is absent. It’s very comical and wacky but it’s also really heartwarming.

Novels: I am gonna be lazy and literally copy/paste the entire danmei section of my top 10 web novels post (except MXTX’s stuff since you are already reading it.) Let me know if you need help finding any of these.

Lord Seventh - I am only partway through this so far, but it’s already on the list because it’s smart and somehow intense AND laid-back (not sure how this works, but it does) and is honestly just a really really solid and smart period novel, with the OTP a cherry on top of a narrative sundae. Plus, I love the concept of MC deciding he is not going for his supposedly fated love - he’s tried for six lifetimes, always with disaster, and he’s just plain done and tired. When he opens his life in his seventh reincarnation and sees the person he would have given up the world for, he genuinely feels nothing at all. (Spoiler - his OTP is actually a barbarian shaman this time around, thank you Lord!)

Golden Stage - my perfect comfort novel. Probably the least angsty of any danmei novel on this list (which still means plenty angsty :P) It also has a dedicated, smart OTP that is an OTP for the bulk of the book - I think you will notice that in most of the novels in this list, I go for “OTP against the world” trope - I can’t stand love triangles and the same. Anyway, Fu Shen, is a famous general whose fame is making the emperor antsy. When he gets injured and can’t walk any more, the emperor gladly recalls him and marries him off to his most faithful court lackey, the head of sort of secret police, Yan Xiaohan. The emperor intends it both as a check on the general and a general spite move since the two men always clash in court whenever they meet. But not all is at is seems. They used to be friends a long time ago, had a falling out, and one of the loveliest parts of the novel is them finding their way to each other, but there is also finding the middle path between their two very different philosophies and ways of being, not to mention solving a conspiracy or dozen, and putting a new dynasty on the throne, among other things. It always makes me think, a little, of “if Mei Changsu x Jingyan were canon.”

Sha Po Lang - if you like a lot of fantasy politics and world-building and steampunk with your novels, this one is for you. This one is VERY plot-heavy with smart, dedicated characters and a deconstruction of many traditional virtues - our protagonist Chang Geng, a long-lost son of the Emperor, is someone who wants to modernize the country but also take down the current emperor his brother for progress’ sake and the person he’s in love with is the general who saved him when he was a kid who is nominally his foster father. Anyway, the romance is mainly a garnish in this one, not even a big side dish, but the relationship between two smart, dedicated, deadly individuals with very different concepts of duty is fascinating long before it turns romantic. And if you like angst, while overall it’s not as angsty as e.g., Meatbun stuff, Chang Geng’s childhood is the stuff of nightmares and probably freaks me out more than anything else in any novel on this list, 2ha included.

To Rule In a Turbulent World (LSWW) - gay Minglan. No seriously. This is how I think of it. it’s a slice of life period novel with fascinating characters and setting that happens to have a gay OTP, not a romance in a period setting per se and I always prefer stories where the romance is not the only thing that is going on. It’s meticulously written and smart and deals with character development and somehow makes daily minutia fascinating. Our protagonist, You Miao, is the son of a fabulously wealthy merchant, sent to the capital to make connections and study. As the story starts, he sees his friend’s servants beating someone to death, feels bad, and buys him because, as we discover gradually and organically, You Miao may be wealthy and occasionally immature but he is a genuinely good person. The person he buys is a barbarian from beyond the wall, named Li Zhifeng. It’s touch and go if the man will survive but eventually he does and You Miao, who by then has to return home, gives him his papers and lets him go. However, LZF decides to stick with You Miao instead, both out of sense of debt for YM saving his life and because he genuinely likes him (and yet, there is no instalove on either of their parts, their bodies have fun a lot quicker than their souls.) Anyway, the two take up farming, get involved in the imperial exams and it’s the life of prosperity and peace, until an invasion happens and things go rapidly to hell. This is so nuanced, so smart (smart people in this actually ARE!) and has secondary characters who are just as complex as the mains (for example, I ended up adoring YM’s friend, the one who starts the plot by almost beating LZF to death for no reason) because the novel never forgets that few people are all villain. There is a lovely character arc or two - watching YM grow up and LZF thaw - there is the fact that You Miao is a unicorn in web novels being laid back and calm. This whole thing is a masterpiece.

Stains of Filth (Yuwu) - want the emotional hit of 2ha but want to read something half its length? Well, the author of 2ha is here to eviscerate you in a shorter amount of time. This has the beautiful world-building, plot twists that all make sense and, at the center of it all, an intense and all-consuming and gloriously painful relationship between two generals - one aristocratic loner Mo Xi, and the other gregarious former slave general Gu Mang. Once they were best friends and lovers, but when the novel starts, Gu Mang has long turned traitor and went to serve the enemy kingdom and has now been returned and Mo Xi, who now commands the remnants of his slave army, has to cope with the fact that he has never been able to get over the man who stabbed him through the heart. Literally. This novel has a gorgeously looping structure, with flashbacks interwoven into present storyline. There is so much love and longing and sacrifice in this that I am tearing up a bit just thinking of it. If you don’t love Mo Xi and Gu Mang, separately and together, by the end of it, you have no soul.

The Dumb Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha/erha) - if you’ve been following my tumblr for more than a hot second, you know my obsession with this novel. Honestly, even if I were to make a list of my top 10 novels of any kind, not just webnovels, this would be on the list. It has everything I want - a complicated, intricate plot with an insane amount of plot twists, all of which are both unexpected and make total sense, a rich and large cast of characters, a truly epic OTP that makes me bawl, emotional intensity that sometimes maxes even me out and so much character nuance and growth. Also, Moran is my favorite web novel character ever, hands down.

Anyway, the plot (or at least the way it first appears) is that the evil emperor of the cultivation world, Taxian Jun, kills himself at 32 and wakes up in the body of his 16 year old self, birth name Moran. Excited to get a redo, Moran wants to save his supposed true love Shimei, whose death the last go-around pushed him towards evil. He also wants to avoid entanglement with Chu Wanning, his shizun and sworn enemy in past life. And that’s all you are best off knowing, trust me. The only hint I am going to give is oooh boy the mother of all unreliable narrators has arrived!

The novel starts light and funny on boil the frog principle - if someone told me I would be full bawling multiple times with this novel, I’d have thought they were insane, but i swear my eyes hurt by the end of it. I started out being amused and/or disliking the mains and by the end I would die for either of them.

The Wife is First - OK, this one did not make my top 10 web novels but it’s a sweet, fun gay cottagecore fest. Our ML, a royal prince, and his spouse, a smart if delicate aristocrat, keep house, eat noodles, play with their pet tiger, make out and spoil each other rotten, while occasionally fighting battles and outwitting their court enemies. It’s so very mellow. That couple redefines low drama - they are both nice and functional and use their brains. It’s as if a nice jock and a nice nerd got together and then proceeded to be wholesome all over the place.

I mean, the set up could be dramatic - our ML the prince, lost his fight for the throne and is about to be killed. The only person who stayed loyal to him is his arranged husband the aristocrat guy who ML never treated nicely since he resented marrying him (marrying a man in that world is done to remove someone from the ability to inherit the throne.) And yet the husband stood by him not out of love but beliefs in loyalty blah blah. Anyway, he transmigrates back into the past right after their wedding night and is all “I got a second chance OMG! I don’t want the throne what is even the point? I want to live a good long life and treat the only person who stood by me really well!” And he proceeds to do so to the shock of the aristocrat who had a very unpleasant wedding night and generally can tell the man he just married would rather eat nails than be married to him. But soon enough (no seriously, it’s not many chapters at all) he believes the prince is sincere blah blah and then they get together and they pretty much become cottagecore goals.

In terms of dramas, I only do period dramas (or novels) so I am not the person to be able to recommend any modern BLs. There is a flood of upcoming (hopefully) period BL dramas but it’s relatively thin on the ground now. The two I will recommend is Word of Honor (which is AMAZING) and Winter Begonia (which I just started watching but which owns me already.) I have a tag for both - the one for the former is huge and I cannot recommend either strongly enough. I’ve heard good things about The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, but I am not big on mysteries so haven’t watched it for myself.

In terms of the upcoming BLs, the ones I am most looking forward to are Immortality and Winner Is King, but The Society of the Four Leaves also looks promising.

the bakarina anime is done! it’s just a drop in the ocean that is the otome isekai genre so these are some recs + what you need to know about them. i just listed most of my favs otherwise it’d be too long :p

also the way the mangaka draws hair is addicting to look at

the villainess cecilia silvie doesn’t want to die so she decided to crossdress

the title speaks for itself~ after remembering an otome game she played in her past life, cecil (previously cecilia) is now the one capturing the hearts of the academy ladies instead

it’s fairly new so there’s not much of it yet :c but it’s pretty interesting

the original otome game had a whole rpg combat system going on and i’m hyped to see how it’s gonna lead the story

the Angelique vibes are strong in this one

the villainess wants to marry a commoner

isabella used to play an otome game in a past life, but she was really only interested in a side character named ursch. and then one day she finds him in her mansion garden

her past life self is such a mood - i too have 100% otome games in hopes of side characters getting hidden routes but alas

definitely deserves the ‘video game’ tag. isabella can see status screens and character stats/skills etc, and all the gacha rewards and grinding transferred over after her reincarnation. she’s the isekai female protag we’ve always wanted

seriously the main ship is too op for their own good aha

deathbound duke’s daughter

in a past life, erika only managed to finish 2.5/7 scenarios of an otome game thanks to an unlucky encounter with knife-kun. with the different flags of her impending doom approaching, she takes things into her own hands years before the game events start

very fantasy-oriented (the most on this list) and pretty action-packed, once you get past the game exposition in the first 3? chapters

the world building is brilliant, from the hafan mages to the aurelian alchemists, and there’s beasts and wands and spells and dnd stuff sprinkled in

the cast has quite interesting dynamics and interwoven plotlines, and they’re all dorky in their way :>

beware of the villainess

melissa remembers a novel from her past life and desperately tries to cut off contact with the male leads, but they still make her life hell & she rages

she’s just so done with everyone and you can’t help but relate to her

definitely the funniest on this list XD melissa and her reactions takes the cake but even the shit characters are hilarious in their own way

there’s also a lot of parodies to memes etc & best of all, there’s cussing. all the shits and fucks. a whole lot of it

it’s great

death is the only ending for the villainess

penelope wakes up as the villainess from a game she’d been playing in her past life, only right now it's on the hardest difficulty where death is literally everywhere. thus she tries, well, not dying

what’s cool about this is that penelope has access to the original game system. she can see menus, choice options etc. the male leads even have affection percentages floating above their heads :> which is always cool to see (and what i’m a sucker for)

but it’s definitely one of the darker ones on this list. iirc there’s depictions of violence, abuse, drugs and then some. just a fair warning

the daughter of albert house wishes for ruin

upon realizing that she’s the villainess from a past-life otome game, mary decides to stay as one. chaos ensues

i love this manga so much, everyone is so quirky and there’s something to laugh about on almost every page. the story almost feels self-aware of itself and just lets the characters do whatever. like ride bikes

addie is so cute ;o;

it’s definitely something everyone should experience

post-annulment, aileen pulls a Lisa Tepes and asks the demon king claude to marry her. he refuses. hijinks ensues

milady just wants to relax

post-annulment, ronia decides to open a cafe in the countryside. it later becomes the frequent hangout of a beastmen mercenary group, who are intensely feared by the townsfolk

well... beastmen. that’s all you need to know /wink

okay, that aside, it’s just as chill as the title suggests. ronia slowly makes friends she can trust, and the beastmen find a second home in the only cafe that’s willing to accept them. it’s pretty wholesome

the banished villainess! living the leisurely life of a nun making revolutionary food

despite actively trying to change her ‘villainess from a past-life otome game’ fate since childhood, elizabeth gets annulled, her noble title stripped, and is sent to a church in a neighboring kingdom. she enjoys it more than expected, despite the appearance of the ever watchful leonid

there’s plenty of 21st-century food like sandwiches, cotton candy leonid’s muscles <3

the entire cast is lovable, and can chris get an f for all the heart attacks leonid keep giving him

seduce the villain’s father

yereninovica (or just yerenica) realizes that she’s in the world of a novel she read in her past life, but as the aunt of said novel’s mc. after thwarting a kidnapping that’s basically the mc’s origin story, she takes it upon herself to also prevent the tragic death of emperor belgoat

a bit different since it switches the roles around (side character x side character) and goes into the “parent generation” of the original work

there’s also an interesting bit where the world seems to recognize her as a hijacker, and where that takes her, we’ll see in due time :o:

plus the way yeni habitually calls him ‘father’ cracks me up every time

transferred to another world but i’m the savior of an otome game

after a ritual gone wrong, “yamada tarou” (fake name) is stuck in the world of an otome game. the only way back is with a magical ring, normally obtained after becoming the lover of one of the male leads. he of course says no i’m going adventuring but the game doesn’t like that

it’s absolutely hilarious - the leads treat our mc like a heroine, and there’s a lot of otome tropes that are called out on/parodied. like the seiyuus’ names oh my god

tarou’s reactions are great and his appraisal skill is the funniest thing alive

endo and kobayashi’s live commentary on the villainess

in modern japan, endo and kobayashi start their playthrough of an otome game, which becomes a bit glitchy and odd. they discover that siegward, a male lead in the game, can hear what they’re saying. they use this chance to finally give lisolette a happier ending

much of the story’s focus is on the characters slowly warming up to lisolette, and a bit on endo/kobayashi’s irl relationship. despite being the primary drive of the story, lisolette herself hardly moves the plot - if you know what i mean

regardless it’s undeniably adorable

tearmoon empire

no isekai, more of time travel? chronoskimming?

mia wakes up 10 years in the past after being sentenced to death. now afraid of guillotine-kun, she strives to solve the issues in her kingdom that had previously led to her doom

a bit similar to bakarina in terms of concept: avoid death flags, unknowingly recruits the people she meets into her little saintess cult. the misinterpretation is very strong, and in brilliantly funny ways

it has really fun narration ngl especially in the light novel

of course, i’ll claim palimony!

to prepare for her annulment, yulia starts scheming recording her fiance’s meetups with the heroine to use as evidence. if you’re gonna lose a suitor, might as well get some money out of it, right? along the way she gets involved with rudonik, one of the male leads

no reincarnation. rather than an otome game, the villainess story comes from a book written by a side character, and the “heroine” just decided to play it out in real life

the cast together is a riot, and it’s entertaining to watch yulia only think in profits and every connection she can make to achieve it

the villainess’ slow prison life began with her broken engagement

no isekai, just a plain old villainess

post-annulment, rachel is sentenced to imprisonment. which she enjoys and is thoroughly, hilariously prepared for

everyone’s a little afraid of rachel and for good reason. it’s better to find out yourself through the LN or manga, but let’s just say that even the king doesn’t want to deal with her XD

the holy grail of eris

now this one is interesting, putting the villainess trope into a mystery ghost story. that said, no isekai either

our innocent heroine constance attends a party and encounters scarlet, an executed villainess from ten years ago. a body possession and some public embarrassment later, they decide to team up to solve the mystery that might be behind scarlet’s death

i mean, ghost villainess? sign me up

i favor the villainess (the heroine goes for the villainess- girls? girls? yes)

a bellicose lady got reincarnated (a delinquent reincarnates as a heroine; what a concept :o unfortunately there’s not a lot of english content for it yet)

it seems i got reincarnated into a yandere otome game (i like that the mc actively makes it so that game can’t ever happen the way it should; plus, yanderes are always interesting to study)

inso’s law (modern isekai, and quite cute!)

the reincarnated young lady aims to be an adventurer / holy guardian tiger (similar to deathbound duke’s daughter in that there’s more of a focus on the fantasy aspect)

expecting to fall into ruin, i aim to become a blacksmith (so far the only one with a shounen tag that i like; its main charm is probably the cast and their interactions with each other eliza best girl)

since i’ve reincarnated as the villainess’ father i’ll shower my wife and daughter with love (big big wholesome vibes)

level 99 villainous daughter (severely op lady who takes no shit from the people looking down at her, and regularly thinks about blowing up the academy within the first 4 chapters? hell yeah)

may i please just ask one last thing? (post-annulment, the mc literally punches everyone in the room; it’s great)

Harry Potter Fanfic Recommendations continued...

I did one of these lists back in June, and y’all KNOW! that I have even more to share with the world.

This list is a mix between crossovers and single-fandom fics, and are drarry or rarepair-centric, but either way I’ll mark which are which when I get to it.

Harry Potter and MCU, no slash, 107k word count, 32 chapters, completed, teen

In the aftermath of the Chitauri invasion, Tony Stark sorts out his priorities - including one he didn't think he had.

Okay I followed this one from the beginning as a WIP because this is exactly the fic that I was looking for. Tony being Irondad for Harry is the most wholesome thing ever, and Uncle Steve is also 20/10. I will say, this fic is not as dark as a lot of this hp/mcu fics of this trope because it happens in Harry’s younger Hogwarts years and his childhood isn’t too ruined just yet. It focuses a lot on Tony’s growth as a father rather than working through Harry’s trauma (which, don’t get me wrong, that happens as well). Harry still has the naive outlook on life that a child should have and it just makes my heart swell.

Although this fic is done, the sequel has not been uploaded yet, as this fic was just completed late August, but don’t let that deter you. The author is a sweetheart to interact with on new updates (which were quite frequent).

Golden Boy’s Dance by Madriddler

Two years after the defeat of Voldemort and Harry is feeling useless. Jobless and suffering from PTSD, Harry spent his days going from horrible interview to horrible interview hopelessly looking for a job. Feeling completely useless, Harry, with the help of George, turns to a new profession that Harry never even thought of : being a camboy. Pleasuring himself for money and people's entertainment, Harry hopes to find a use for the Savior of the Wizarding World in this Peaceful Era.

Yeah so uh,,, this is a total guilty pleasure kink fic and I’m not at all ashamed for putting this fic on here. I won’t even lie, sometimes it felt a bit cheesey, but the porn was so well written it didn’t even matter. I swear to you this is porn with plot and lots of it. Harry works through his post traumatic stress disorder in ways that may or may not be slightly unhealthy, but beyond the porn, it’s really about Harry being okay in his own skin, as someone with mental health issues and as a sex worker. It was a hell of a good time to read and I definitely cried for Harry a time or two.

Draco knows they aren't the only students who will be completing their NEWTs this year, but they are the only ones whose home fireplaces were disconnected from the floo network by the ministry.

At least, Draco assumes as much until he sees the light falling out from the front door of one of the other rickety old houses in front of them and the three figures cast in its warm glow. For a moment they look like some sort of strange, many legged creature. An acromantula, or a particularly massive Blast-Ended Skrewt. Then Draco hears Pansy make a disgusted sound beside him and the light falls in a less blinding way, and Draco can see that it is actually Potter and the Weasel carrying a large couch between them, and Granger fluttering around them with her wand out, seeming concerned.

I don’t think I’ve laughed this much reading a fic in a long time. The golden trio and the Slytherin gang live in the same neighborhood while attending their 8th year at Hogwarts and i swear to fucking god, the amount of mutual pining and angst between Harry and Draco is fucking ridiculous, but you can’t help but love them anyway. Sometimes I wanted to throttle them and then shove them into a closet together so they would just t a l k but like in a good way. also the Christmastime atmosphere is something I just live for.

Words Unread, Things Unsaid by PinkCrupps

Harry Potter, no slash Harry & Snape, 18k word count, 7 chapters, completed, teen

What if the Dursley’s were a little crueler, and a little smarter? What if they didn’t want Harry going to school because they didn’t want anyone to see the bruises?

What if Harry had to leave for Hogwarts, carrying a shameful secret? One that Severus Snape is determined to discover.

When I say this one hurt, I mean it h u r t. I feel so bad because when I first read the tags I laughed when I saw the illiterate tag because I make the “I can’t read” jokes often but then I read the fic and i felt SO BAD OMG.

I am no fan of Snape, let it be known, but this fic, I think made me feel like he actually deserved a bit of a redemption arc (even if it’s fanon). This whole time, all I could think of is giving harry a big hug and never letting him go.

I said this in the notes of my bookmark, and I stand by it: “

I feel like the hurt/comfort tag on this one is also meant for the reader”

What Happens to the Heart by Mossycoat

With no girlfriend, no job, and no idea what he wants, Harry has decided to let life go on without him. If only prophetic dreams, demanding ghosts, and Draco Malfoy would let him.

If you need a pick-me-up after the sadness for the prior fic, may i recommend this one. Seer!Harry is a headcanon that I had never seen before this fic, and I was not let down whatsoever. We love a fic where the OCs are wonderful and the writing style is immaculate. The incorporation of tarot and divination into the chapter names and plot also makes my babywitch heart s i n g!!

Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Relevant_Peach

Draco Malfoy would do anything to find a cure for his son's life-threatening disease. When he crosses paths with an old acquaintance, it unleashes a string of events that will uncover secrets and deceptions. Will Draco be able to look past the misdeeds of his old lover's past? Will Harry ever find the family he longs for?

Ah yes, who knew that pain could feel so good. Everything seems to be fine until it isn’t with this one.

oh my goD yes a classic we love to see it. This is one of those fics that is long but doesn’t reallly feel like it is? This is definitely another feel-good fic, even if it doesn’t seem that way in the beginning. Not only does it focus on Harry and Draco’s relationship, but also their relationships with their family, specifically their children. It’s just really heartwarming whenever Harry get’s all fatherly with his kids. ugh I swear I don’t want any but this is just SO ADORABLE! Plus Blaise Zabini rights thank you very much.

Also Boris can suck my left toe.

I’m so sorry to give you a WIP that hasn’t been updated in 10 months, but I couldn’t let this one slide. I’m so attached to these characters it’s unhealthy. I’m not gonna lie, this fic was the product of a very hyperspecific filtered search on AO3 but I’m not even mad at it. Tony is Harry’s father but unlike the other fic on this rec list, Harry is a bit more grown up and bears a lot of the scars of 5th year (y’all don’t need me to specify with that one). It’s a lovely family dynamic and super fluffy Peter and Harry wow we love to see it. Harry is also super fucking smart AS HE IS! I will never get over people calling him stupid ugh Harry rights. But yes, author friend, if you see this, update when you can I’m so in love with this.

Personal favorite is often shown in the one I draw the most lol, which for a long time was Danielle LWW, but just because she was also my wolfsona at the time. After I made my own personal one I think I went onto Sam for a good while, also eventually going to Dany from Bsd!

So a tie between two beautiful girls, Sam is definitely my favorite LWW Oc, she is just precious and the one I hold the most and most always feel terrible and bad when I put her through it TM.

Also Dany is my self insert, U//w//U, she has definitely allowed me to slowly self love and allow me to appreciate myself, especially the parts of me I didn’t think to much about or consider so appealing, I think? She has definitely been changing gradually into more of myself since I first came up with her almost 2 years ago! Watch me slowly knock her down to my height of 4′9″, let her have her 3 inches for another year maybe lol.

19. Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)

Definitely Darkwolfmon! I am sure I explained in the first question why, but again I consider her to be that other half of me, the part of me I never discovered or the parts that essentially fill in the gaps within me. She is my precious partner Digimon and has honestly come a long, long way since I first created her. I believe sometime in 2009-2010, so almost 11-12 years since. She was the first ever OC of mine and is one I hold closest too in my heart.

For the longest time, even too now, I have always wanted her to just manifest at my side. Go on this journey of life together. While she might not be physically here like my child-self would want, she is still in my stories, my imagination, my inspirational drive. I think that is definitely more than enough, I don't know where or who I would be without having created her. I probably wouldn’t have a whole tale of OC’s and stories to tell if it wasn't for her.

I am more than grateful and thankful that I am who I am because of this lovely Oc of mine. I can only hope to have her at my side for the rest of my days!

20. Do any of your OCs sing? If they sing, care to share more details (headcanon voice, what kind of songs they like etc)?

Most, if not all, my OC’s can sing! Their voices and tones vary, to which I cannot give a straight answer on how I headcanon most of their voices right now ^^; I will say that Danielle has a British accent to her voice as well as Spanish speak, and Sora has a Russian accent to her voice, so may be just lightly deep, but not to much.

I will definitely go with my Bsd Oc/Self Insert Danielle Mika Mason, however! Because I have gone and done a thing on how she would speak in her Japanese and English Dub! Other than me also being her voice, her Japanese VA would be Yui Ishikawa, same VA of the queen herself, Mikasa 💕 English VA would be Barrett Wilbert Weed, with an English accent, good Veronica from the Heathers! You can have a listen to her here in this post!

Dany is meek when it comes to her singing, she will often be caught humming and softly singing something, but quickly tends to stop around others. She is often back and forth with how she sounds and often shuts down when she hears someone she considers better than her. She just needs some encouragement and a gentle push from someone she really cares about. When she does feel the push and genuineness from someone she will sing her heart out. But of course prefers to sing for only that one special person~ can ya guess~ 🐯

31. Pick one OC of yours and explain what their tumblr blog would be like (what they reblog, layout, anything really).

Oh boi! I literally have moodboards to add to this! I pick Samantha, or Sam!

She would totes have a Tumblr blog, and Instagram! You always look forward to see what she post and just feel an instant calmness and warmth when you see it! She is always tagging her things appropriately, a soft and warm spring like layout that is shades of yellows, golds, orange, white; an occasional blue and teal as well! She would reblog anything of her aesthetic, golds, yellows, dance and ballet related things (may even post videos or poses of herself in practice and dance related things), cafe shops, sweets and desserts, warm night lights, cats, lots and lots of cats and felines of all shapes and sizes! Her best friend/boyfriend, Takaru always cameos in her stories and posts 💖

She would also reblog or spread awareness of any issues happening in the world, marking them and making her own voice heard as well. In spur moments, you may see her not tag things, but will likely go back to name things accordingly. She would also reblog anything of Bi Pride too!

28. Your most dangerous OC?

Hmmm,,, my most dangerous Oc, I am taking the notion that they are just plain dangerous and likely of evil intent in their actions. Because plenty of my Oc’s on their own are dangerous in their own right, such as the Legendary Wolf Warriors, who have a great power at their paws. They can be destructive in their actions if they lose control or use it for the wrong intentions, which they wouldn't do of their free will.

I will say Danielle and Sam are the strongest of the seven, because of their powers of Darkness and Light, respectively. Their souls created the others, so the other Warrior’s power does not match theirs. They can definitely be lethal together if used for the wrong reasons or if they are under the control of a Human or Deadly Sin.

Which leads me to say that the most dangerous of my OC’s with the worst intentions and evil thought processes that makes them dangerous is likely the Deadly Soul Sin Pride, or Mikka Penelope King/Pride as her solid name goes.

She is definitely the most sinister of the seven sins, even worse than Wrath, who you may figure would be the worst. She has a calculating mind and is very precise in her actions and ways of manipulation. She has a poison within her veins that is just as deadly, capable of blinding others or even killing without remorse or care. While she may be a ghost like entity in my stories, a person/digimon holder in my Digimon College Au, she has enough power to influence people to fall under pride and vanity in the most dangerous level possible, heck even possess them if she wishes. That makes her stronger, as well as the other sins. Does not matter if she is dead or fades away for a while, her influence remains and if it does, than she can exist for a long as she desires.

48. OC who is a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure

Lol I saw cinnamon roll and instantly had a list of ocs ready, honestly any child OC I have is instantly a cinnamon roll and to good and put for this world, please treat them all kindly!

Current top Oc’s that come to mind are Haruko Mason-Nakajima, along with their nameless sister/pup! They are the sweetest babies ever and love them so much. Too good and pure, especially nameless pup with her love for tigers; she wants to grow up and be like her sibling and papa 🥺🥰 You can see the post on them here!

Next up is my precious flamey boi named Alik Azure Mizuhara! A next gen. LWW, son of Sora and Yamato! A little sightless boi with the softest heart and warmest empathy for others. Very much like his mother in likeness and pure curiosity of the world’s secrets and tales. His father worries for him a lot, but gradually learns to trust in his ability to guide himself. Therefore I’m taking a few liberties with things, so I’m hoping you don’t mind too much!

Yandere Eustass Kid with Reader Headcanons

+ Being in a relationship with Eustass “Captain” Kid is no easy matter. The man is as fierce as he is possessive, armed with an explosive temper as well as a natural disposition towards casual violence. Even towards his own crew, the captain of the Kid Pirates is a harsh leader without much tolerance towards fuck ups and disobedience so you’re going to have to develop nerves of steel in dealing with this hot-tempered man if you hope to get with him! - That being said, he’s not an ‘abusive’ partner. Rather, Kid feels intensely and lust often goes hand in hand with aggression, both volatile and rich emotions that can eat away at a person if left unchecked. Just as Kid relishes violence and bloodlust, so too does he crave close intimacy with his loved ones of which he has very few in this merciless world. Killer, his childhood friend and companion, is one of those few people that Kid feels such deep platonic love for as the Massacre Soldier was the only person he was able to rely on during a loveless upbringing. + That means that Killer is the only person Kid trusts to be around you. Even Heat and Wire are growled at sometimes if they start getting too friendly with you in his eyes, the red-haired man very much preferring to be the centre of attention in your little world. God forbid any of the lower crew members try anything funny; Kid will happily beat their ass senseless and toss them overboard into the sea, not caring much if they’re able get back on board or not. - People soon learn to keep their eyes away from you, let alone dare give you much attention... + While Kid is not (intentionally) abusive, he can be harsh and even seem uncaring at times. This isn’t down to any malice or disdain towards his lover, however - rather the man has no experience on how a healthy relationship is supposed to work. What Kid considers to be affectionate is often possessive and clingy at times, the man becoming desperately needy for attention and isn’t afraid to become a petty little shit when he doesn’t get what he wants. - A cold shoulder along with the silent treatment are the usual responses towards any perceived slight, which can be strangely disconcerting given the captain’s usually brash behaviour. For everybody else, the tension on board can be cut with a knife as Kid pointedly ignores his lover... but it never lasts for long. Once his petulance burns itself out, the man is back for more, playing it extra sweet in the hopes of getting you to play with him again. + Killer is the one who has to explain it to you once he realizes how serious the relationship between you and Kid has grown. Thanks to the World Government’s actions in South Blue after the end of Gol D. Roger’s era, many parents either abandoned their children or were brutally killed trying to protect them due to governmental officials wiping out as many of the ex-Pirate King’s ‘potential spawn’ as possible. Kid is one of those survivors and his childhood was as brutal as it was unforgiving, leaving the boy with no other option than to grow up as quickly as possible. - Whatever parental figures he had at the time cared little for the red-haired boy during his youth, leaving him to figure out his own path in life. Kid’s earliest life lessons were that few people were to be trusted, much less accepted into the angry youth’s heart... or at least that was the case until Killer came into his life, the tall blond remaining to this day one of the only people understanding enough to deal with Kid’s eccentricities. Nobody knows better than the Massacre Soldier that Kid is not a conventional partner and will be there to support both you and his childhood friend, knowing full well what his friend has experienced and to prevent a rift growing between the two of you. + In time, Kid learns to become a more wholesome partner but it’ll take a lot of patience, time and understanding from you, almost as much as Killer himself to be able to handle your captain at his worst. No matter what, he’ll remain as fierce and possessive as he ever was but will learn how to handle any grievances in a healthier fashion... - “What the hell, Kid? You got blood all over me again!” You yell while wiping your face clean of crimson splatters, a headless marine dropping to the floor beside you. You can only watch as the man sheepishly grins despite the battle raging all the two of you and shrugs. “What? He was checking out your ass behind your back!”

Yandere Doflamingo with Reader Headcanons

+ In all honestly, there’s not much difference in a relationship between Yandere!Doflamingo and Regular!Doflamingo. The man is a self-proclaimed God, a Celestial Dragon and Child of the Heavens despite long having since been thrown out of Mary Geoise along with his family. Even though many years have passed since that terrible day, Doflamingo has become King once again and his word in Dressrosa is law above all... - Unlike Kid, Doflamingo actually enjoyed plenty of healthy exposure to a loving relationship from the start of his troubled life. His parents were unconditionally loving towards their children and each other despite the difficulties they soon themselves after having descended to the ‘world of humans’ below and it is due to these experiences that Doflamingo has his own peculiar views on love. In his eyes, love towards him truly is unconditional - and to break that means you never truly loved him at all. + That being said, Doflamingo adores you intensely and like Kid, it is a fierce and possessive affection. Unlike Kid however, it is one that the Heavenly Demon feels he is completely and utterly entitled to and his wrath knows no bounds when he doesn’t get what he wants. He’ll move mountains if he has to and tear heaven and earth asunder if he must, but you are his and his alone and need to understand that as soon as possible. - On the surface, you look like any other of the many young admirers and lovers that frequently stop by the palace. There is never any shortage of women and even the occasional man hoping to secure a favourable position likes yours when it’s obvious you’re the man’s most favoured partner, yet despite their best efforts, Doflamingo is content to play only for a short while before returning his affections back to you. + “What’s the matter, love? Did you think anything about that was actually serious?” Doflamingo will chuckle if you seem put out at all by this behaviour, the man treating you more like a favourite toy than an actual person and partner. It’s hypocritical in a way, that Doffy can seem to play with whomever he wants but if anybody should so much as look your way... - “Young Master!” The Donquixote Family will cry out in shock as Doflamingo suddenly cuts down a few lowly recruits for the simple crime of looking at you in a way he doesn’t like. To Doflamingo, it is a crime even more unforgivable than laughing at his family, such filthy men daring to lust so openly for his partner right before his eyes! You don’t get to go out so often after that particular incident, for Doflamingo would gladly kill any number of people who so much as looks at you the wrong way. + Doflamingo’s possessiveness only grows worse over time the more he’s attached to you, the longer you’ve been together. Having lost so many of his own family members over the years, he takes no chance in risking losing you as well; only the Donquixote Family is to be around you, long term members that the man feels as though he can trust with you alone, even if he has to have somebody watching you at all times. Never are you to go anywhere by yourself, let alone speak to anybody outside of those ‘allowed’ to interact with you. - This isolation can be as stifling as his possessiveness at times, especially when Doflamingo is busy with work but he’d rather that and cage you, his precious little pet, than risk letting you fly free. When you entered this relationship, you knew full well what you were getting yourself into and of the kind of man you were getting involved with... + “Let you go? Whatever for, my darling? Do you not enjoy the finest food, the most beautiful scenery and gifts anybody could hope to enjoy? I am your God, Name. My least favorite fanfic is still great so I’d prefer that being adapted. Maybe the adaptation would make it even better.

I don’t care about that. What matters fic potentiality and chemistry. I ship mlm, wlw, straight and every ship in between. As long as the influx of fics are either great or plentiful.

Yo, rarepairs are practically diamonds in every fandom. Everyone wants to find new ships but they’re too busy shipping every obvious ship. When you create fics for a rarepair, it’s gonna go one of two ways:

People are either gonna go crazy for it and demand skyrockets, or it flops and you abandon your works out of shame.

Would you rather see your otp shatter years after their happily ever after or never have the happily ever after happen in the first place?

As a member of any fandom, I think it’s better to never wish for a happily ever after for your OTP, unless you wanna cry yourself to sleep every night.

But to answer the question: Harry Styles? Classic. Mafia AU? Also a classic. So I’ll go with it. I can deal with a lot of things but K-Pop is not one of them.

“Dead set”? I’m not dead set I just… ship them? Because I love the healthy and wholesome relationship between them and their dynamic appeals to me?

I will try to answer this very thoughtfully…

Young girls fall in love. Young girls do fall in love and yes of course that’s young love, but a crush is a valid thing?? “You don’t imagine yourself falling in love’?? Have you never been young? When did you have your first crush? Imagining falling in love is all young girls ever do. (I exaggerate.) This is exactly the age where people start to figure out their sexuality!! Having crushes and kissing is part of finding out what love is and what it means to you. Hell, there are adults who have never been in love. This isn’t about The One True Love Of Your Life, this is about two young girls liking each other romantically, whatever that entails. They don’t have to stay together forever, but they are happy in the moment. Isn’t that the same for… most ships? Romantic feelings come gradually, they don’t suddenly appear when you turn 18?? Especially in a world that revolves around the search for love and happiness.

Being gay is not “for adults only”. This is so important!!! I mean, look at posts like this. Being gay is not dirty or sinful or ‘not for kids’! Kids are gay! And that is excellent! I think it’s important to normalize young people of the same sex falling in love. If you think about it, there’s plenty of that with kids of the opposite gender. It begins with kindergarten playmates and parents (jokingly) ‘arranging marriages’. What is is about kids of the same sex having elementary school ‘hand-holding’ crushes? Why is that suddenly wrong? Food for thought.

Figuring out your sexuality starts exactly at this age. “They have their whole lives to figure out their sexuality.” I feel like that’s a bit of a misguided sentiment? When do you realize you are straight? When do you ‘figure that out’? Being gay is part of who a person is, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with realizing that as early on as possible. It is healthy. Everyone’s journey is valid, and yes there will be a process of figuring things out and to some people that will happen only later in life, but it does not become less valid just because you are young. You don’t have to write an Adult Essay about why you are now gay and hand it in to be approved by the Gay Council to finally be granted Official Gay Status.

Shipping does not equal sex. Obviously!!!This should go without saying, especially if the characters are minors. While it is a fact that young people do have sex, whether you like it or not, this is not something that should be described in graphic detail in fic or art!! Good grief! DO NOT explore that aspect with minors!! Having a ship is not the same as sexualizing a ship! (It often goes hand in hand because people mostly ship… well, not adults but older teens, if we’re talking about anime/manga. The protagonists are often still minors lmao. But it is not the same!!) Be aware of that distinction!

Representation is important. And if representation does not exist in canon, it is very okay and good to create it in fandom spaces. I know your point wasn’t the gay/straight ships dichotomy, BUT if it had been girl and boy sacrificing themselves for each other in the name of love in canon (which happened, whether you choose to interpret it as platonic or romantic love) would you also be saying “aw, friendship is so important!!” ?? Which brings me to my next point:

(I’m joking. I’m sorry. Couldn’t resist.)

Gals being pals. The eternal problem. You think their interactions are more sisterly? That’s fine! Shipping is subjective. But desperately forcing all w/w relationships into this ‘they’re just very very very good friends!!!’ drawer is not quite fair. Because there are romantic w/w relationships! Lesbians exist! This is a problem much more prominent in bi/lesbian ships simply because girls being physically and emotionally intimate with each other is completely normalized, whereas boys often do not have such freedom, sadly. But ignoring women in love is just willfully closing your eyes. Perhaps because you (in a general sense, not you personally) might be more uncomfortable with it than you like to admit? Great brotps are just as important as ships and it’s everyone’s free choice to decide which they prefer for a certain relationship! But do keep in mind this very real problem of overlooking romance because you personally don’t want it to exist. As for the whole concept of ‘purity’ and becoming ‘tainted’ by love… er. I don’t like that. At all. How does (gay) love/affection taint a person?! Because I do think this is about being gay. That word choice was really uncomfortable and unfortunate. I’m not even going to adress this because it will make me angry. Love does not taint a person?! (And if this was about sex then…ew? I have never and will never even think about that. That was your thought. So…)

Platonic shipping vs Romantic shipping. There is no better or worse!!! Enough said. We’ve been over this one many times in many fandoms.

It’s all about being age appropriate. It matters how you ship a ship. Especially in the matter of young love. I agree that you have to be careful with younger ships because it can be a sensitive topic. I think the problem when you say ‘I ship these two girls’ is that shipping has become so tied-in with sexual ideas that people just immediately (for some horrible, sad reason) think ‘They must want these two young girls to fuck! They must be pedophiles!” And that is just horrible. Sadly enough there are people who do want that, and those are pedophiles and should not go anywhere near fandom spaces (or real life children). Thiscan and should never be tolerated! Be aware of creeps in fandom spaces… (I think it’s also important to stress that this whole ask is dealing with love between young people. Not between a young person + a much older adult person. That is gross and never ever okay.)But that is not at all what shipping two young people should be about. Obviously!!! This should all be so obvious, I don’t know why I have to write it out in so much detail, but alas. Be age-appropriate!!! Crushes are okay, first kisses are okay, exploring who they are as people and why they fell/are falling in ‘love’ is okay, silly cute drabbles are okay… respect that they are children!!!(A little excursus: Isn’t there this shipping trope where people turn their adult ships into kids because it’s “cute“?? Whatever floats your boat, I guess, but I’ve never been a fan of that. Personally I find it even weirder when it’s just one person of the ship…? But I digress.) I mean: ‘childhood friends to lovers’! You could fill a library with fanfiction about that! But if they’re young in canon suddenly that’s forbidden?? Shipping young people has to be APPROPRIATE and has to be handled carefully and respectfully! Don’t hurt or disrespect people!Nobody has to ship any ship but it’s also not wrong to like a pairing of younger people as long as it is DONE RIGHT (e.g. no smut for god’s sake, no marriage, no adult themes, no paring of one young person with an adult(!!!) etc. it’s really not that hard). And if you don’t want to ship a young person at all, then obviously that is perfectly fine too! Personally I definitely prefer adult ships, but beautiful and age-appropriate (!!! I cannot stress this enough) relationships can be a source of joy no matter the age range.When I, once in a while, find myself really liking a dynamic between younger people, then I give special care to portray their relationship in exactly that innocent, child-like way and handle them with a lot of caution and respect.

If you ship two younger people, please be aware that they are children and deserve to be treated as such!!!
