A gift from a humble Brit to anyone (not from the UK) wanting to write Velv convincingly ~

Hello you wayward sinner!

Are you looking to write Velvette into a fan fiction, comic, roleplay or something else? Would you like to make her sound legit but you have no idea about British (or indeed, South London) slang? FEAR NOT! I, Bapple, am here to hold your hand and guide you through the wonderful world of British slang so you can have fun making Velv sound legit. Let's proceed!

Not all of this will be limited to the UK, of course, and it's not an exhaustive list of ALL British slang either - it's just the kind of things Velv WOULD say as someone from South London.

Insults

For men: bastard, prick, wanker, knob, dickhead, wankstain, bellend, git, tosser, sod, cock, pillock, numpty, codger (means old man)

For women: bint, bitch, slag, wench, slut, tart, trollop, scrub

For anyone: arsehole, arse, twat, sket, muppet, minger (means ugly), bugger, gobshite, cretin

The absolute worst thing you can call someone else is cunt - this is very strong and isn't used in casual conversation, unless you are in VERY informal company, in which case it's thrown around like it's nothing at all. (Come here you cheeky cunt - playful)

Terms of Endearment

Babes, hun, luv, darlin', sweetheart, mate, sweetie, mucker, pal, blud, fam, dear, dearie, honey

Eg: "Alright babes? How's it going darlin?'"

British people often use insults affectionately, too, especially with close friends as a way to tease / banter. (You silly sod, you useless prick, you cheeky git, you daft muppet, etc)

Slang Words

Drunk: trollied, smashed, pissed, wasted, legless, hammered, sloshed, battered, bladdered, merry, shitfaced, arseholed, plastered, lashed

Good: banging, well good, mint, the dogs bollocks, ace, blinding, cracking, brill, fab, neat, beast, fresh, hench, jokes (that's jokes innit), lush, peng (good looking), sick, wicked, peak, wavy

Bad: grim, naff, shite, shit, crap, tat (useless old tat), minging, rank, dry, nasty, humming (means gross)

Pleased: chuffed, buzzing, tickled pink, sorted (I'm sorted mate)

Annoyed: gutted, miffed, pissed off, fucked off, fuming, raging, ticked off, well annoyed, bovvered (used more sarcastically eg: I aint bovvered), vexed

Curses

Bollocks, fucking hell, bloody hell, bugger, piss off, any of the insults used above

Other random words

Bare = a lot of (eg bare money)

Chirpsing, grafting = flirting

Garms = clothes

Lips = kiss (are you tryna lips me?)

Peng ting = good looking person / high quality thing

Standard = of course, yeah no duh (Yeah that's standard mate.)

Tight = cheapskate (Don't be so bloody tight!)

Yard = your house (Come over to my yard)

Banter = conversation that's funny, casual, playful (S'just banter innit)

Convo, chinwag, chat = conversation

Defo = short for definite (Oh he's defo up to something)

Other random phrases

Are you taking the mick? = are you mocking me?

Stop faffing around = be serious and stop messing about

That's mad = wow, I can't believe what you just said or that's amazing

Allow it = just leave it, it's no big deal (Whatever mate, allow it)

Other helpful pointers

When British people (who talk like Velv) swear angrily we do so many times in a whole sentence and add a lot of qualifiers, eg:

"Fuck off you fucking prick, you absolute fucking useless arsehole!"

"Don't piss me off babes or I'll fucking end your shitty little life!"

Making a crude observation about something nearly always a curse in-front of it, eg:

"That's fucking rank."

"It was fucking buzzing mate!"

The Magical Use of Innit:

Innit is a wonderful word that can be used everywhere, especially for someone from South London. It basically means "isn't it?" but it has MANY uses. It can be used to mean an agreement, like "I know right?"

"That was well good innit"

"He's a right twat" - response: "INNIT!"

"It's fuckin grim in here" - "Innit mate"

Adding "well" to words

That was well good - that was well bad - that was well grim

(You get the idea)

so ive been enamoured with cosmo kuiper lately and wanted to draw my take on him and the people surrounding him like the investors! couple minor design tweaks to fit stuff into my style and to distinguish the investors more from each other mostly.

but also these guys at the bottom of the post! those are cosmos dads- solaris astrolini and luna cogleone. hes the son of two criminal bosses who decided to build a ton of planetary kids to build their empire. mostly I just thought the idea of a sun and moon cog to be pretty fun, and makes sense why they'd then have a bunch of planets lol...

The day of the Full Moon has arrived, yet the night didn’t settle, as Aries quickly gathered enough of everything she needed just in case Cipher has gotten suspicious over Lamont’s disappearance on every Full Moon days. Yet the organization see him returning with his own bag of supplies for some science related, or things he needed to eat or have to calm him down while working.

“Today is the day…I hope he is okay, and I think he’ll be hyped to know that I’m improving more and more…although…I feel like something is wrong…I wonder why….” Aries sighs softly as she looked over to the window of the Plasma Frigate to see the Sunset glow slowly turning dim. Until a memory bashed her as she sighs out sadly. “Right…Boss’s orders sadly…I need someone to babysit me while I’m out there… Cuz’ Cipher wants me dead…now…who do I find to help me out?…” She questioned herself as she gets out of the room to find anyone she recognizes.

not to be an asshole and say i told you so.... but with the qsmp's increasing popularity with its lore + philza saying that literally all they're told is to "show up at a specific time for an event" without any further context due to the overarching lore/plot being controlled by the admins/non-player characters.... i think i was at least a little right when i said that the best way to run and maintain a large mcrp server would be to follow mianite's footsteps and have it be run behind the scenes and include actors.....

#icarus speaks #like. i'm in no way discrediting all the work the players put into it #obv their efforts are a LARGE help as to the server's popularity #but like!!! i need to find my old origins posts #because SO much of what i spoke about in it is exactly what the qsmp has implemented #like the implementation of actors #so streamers don't feel uncomfortable/weird just roleplaying with themselves and chat #and a large team putting large events together behind the scenes #so they have a group of writers disconnected from the play #allowing for genuine streamer reactions in a different way than usual!!!!#like. i'm just saying. it works.

hello marauders fandom!!

! me and my best boy jesper @mystcius have started a 20+ DISCORD SERVER for marauders roleplay where we develop and roleplay Hogwarts in the 70s. It’s a really fun server to develop and interact within the marauders community with in character chats, in depth canon roleplays and developments of canon relationship and so on. it’s an all inclusive group where we promote minor and major characters (particularly promoting intergrating minor characters into major plot points too!! no one is excluded here.)
