Hiii
I LOVE your work, and I was wonderful if you could write something with hurt/comfort with Matt Murdock?
Like you were coming home late and someone was following you home, and Matt hears you heart beat and comes to find you juste before the creepy person makes a move on you? And the reader is like “I’m fine, I’m okay” even tho she crying very hard and can’t breathe and Matt is like “no you’re not, but it’s okay I’ll take care of you” and then he takes care of reader and it’s fluff and comfort?
Thank youuuuu
Savior (Matt Murdock x Reader)
A/N: Hiiii! Thank you for reading! It's a short ficlet, but I ended up really liking how it turned out! Also, Charlie Cox is so, so PRETTY. A special thank you to my beta reader @wheredidiputmyfish for being so great! <3 (Word Count: 1.0k)

You didn’t fully comprehend the predicament you were in until it changed from sketchy to dangerous. Hell’s Kitchen was especially quiet that night, though the argument could be made that it never fully went to sleep. Bodegas, laundromats, and diners stayed open late into the night, and it was the light spilling from their fogged windows that lit your route home.
You knew Matt wouldn’t be happy with your decision to walk home alone. He’d warned you time and time again to wait for him, or get a taxi if he wasn’t around, but taxis were expensive, and he hadn’t answered your call earlier. Now, you cursed yourself for not waiting.
The man behind you had been following you for thirteen blocks – you'd counted in nervous breaths – and he was gaining on you. You walked at an increasingly rapid pace, heart thundering as you blindly dug through your bag for the pepper spray Foggy had gifted you when you’d moved to the city. It was big and a stark blue, with the words “I Heart NY” stamped around it, but your hands were shaking so badly that even if you could find it in the black hole that was your tote bag, you weren’t sure you’d be able to use it.
You turned the corner, nervously glancing at the stranger out of the corner of your eye, and almost yelped at the proximity he had gained. He was within ten feet of you, and you didn’t give yourself a chance to hesitate before you took off running.
“Hey!” He called.
You ignored him, pushing your legs to move faster. You could see the entrance to your building, a tiny speck in the distance, and you prayed Matt was close enough to hear your racing heart. The man’s feet pounded on the concrete behind you, and you let out a wild shriek that you hoped would alert someone nearby. If it was heard by anyone, they didn’t make it known. You were alone, and the man was so close to you now that you knew you’d be grabbed by him before you could make it to the safety of your building.
Arms wrapped around your middle, hauling you into an alley. You began shrieking at the top of your lungs, if only to make it harder for your attacker to get away with whatever he planned to do.
“Leave me alone! Stop!” You fought with all your might, swinging and kicking wildly in front of you in a last-ditch effort to get away. “Get off me, you fucking creep!”
Hands cradled your face.
“It’s me. It’s me, sweetheart.” Matt’s smooth voice coaxed your eyes open. You hadn’t even realized they were closed. “You’re safe, sweetheart. I’ve got you.”
You blinked up at him in relief. Your heart thundered in your chest, making it hard to breathe. He wasn’t in his Daredevil suit, but the way he clenched his jaw told you that the Devil was itching to come out and play.
“There was a man,” you started, voice scratchy from the screams you’d let out, “He was following me. I-I know I should’ve waited for you to come get me, but I didn’t want to bother you and then this guy showed up and I was trying to find the pepper spray but-” You were rambling now, gulping in air and waving your arms around as you explained.
“Are you okay?” Matt asked, softly caressing the curve of your cheekbone.
“Yeah.” You nodded. The lie tasted ashy on your tongue.
“You’re crying, sweetheart.”
“I-I’m fine.” You stuttered, attempting to blink the tears away. “I’m fine.” You tried again, but your voice wobbled as the words left your lips. You couldn’t tell if you were trying to convince him or yourself at that point. Matt nodded along with you, kissing your temple.
“Let’s get you home, okay? You’re safe now. No one will ever hurt you again, okay? I’ve got you.” He led you to the apartment you shared with him, only letting go when you sunk into the cushions of the couch. “I’m going to make you some tea, okay?”
“Okay.” Your voice was wispy, barely audible to anyone besides Matt, who had tuned himself to you so thoroughly that you sometimes felt like he could read your thoughts. Like right then, as the thought entered your brain, and he responded before you could even finish the thought. Some Chamomile tea would be grea-
“Is Chamomile alright?” He called, clinking the mug against the counter.
“Yeah, Matty. Thank you.” You breathed through your anxiety and wondered what happened to the man who’d been following you.
Later that evening, after he’d drawn you a bath and tucked you into bed, the Devil finally got what he wanted. Matt hadn’t mentioned it to you, but he’d been diligently tracking the stranger’s heartbeat since he’d intervened earlier that evening, and as soon as your heartbeat evened out, suggesting your deep slumber, Matt was jumping across rooftops towards the irregular heartbeat he’d been listening to all evening.
He wasn’t sure what he was going to do once he got his hands on the guy who had followed you earlier. The blood curdling scream you’d let out was indication enough of your fear, and it echoed in Matt’s ears as he got closer to his target.
He wouldn’t kill the man. That wasn’t a line Matt was willing to cross, but the thought certainly crossed his mind. If he’d put his hands on you, touched you with his filthy awfulness, Matt might’ve been angry enough to do it, though, and that terrified him. He’d never been so close to murder before, besides maybe with Fisk, but no one fucked with you and got away with it. He wouldn’t kill the guy, but he’d hurt him. Badly.
Matt took a deep breath and let the Devil creep out. May God have mercy on the stranger’s soul, because the Devil surely wouldn’t.

3 : draping a blanket over them when they’re sleeping W/ Matt Murdock
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“Baby I’m fine,” Matt groaned as you pulled him away from the bedroom, the wardrobe that held his suit - hidden away from prying eyes.
“Matthew you were stabbed two days ago, you’re obviously not,” You said with a sigh.
“I really am, I’m feeling so much better.”
“There are others who can look after the people of Hell’s kitchen for a few more nights, I’ll even call Frank,” you said, going to pick up your phone. “Don’t you dare!”
With a laugh, you put it back down. “Is spending a few days with me fretting over you really that bad?” You asked.
“Of course not.”
“So sit down and hush.” He went down onto the sofa with a plop. “You comfy?”
“Yeah, come here,” he opened his arms in your direction.
“Not yet, I’m going to make you some soup and you’re going to nap.” Matts face fell into a pout, “What you’re even gonna nap with me?” With a laugh, you leaned down to kiss the pout away.
The his cheeks, his forehead, peppering kisses everywhere. “Rest Matty. I’ll wake you when it’s done place.” He sighed, but let his eyes fall closed.
The soup didn’t take long to cook at all, you’d prepped the veggies already, letting broth become delicious with soft spices. Purely not to overwhelm Matts sense of smell.
Hearing a faint snoring sound you could only smile at the fact he’d fallen asleep so easily. He would never admit he needed rest, it was the only cause of arguments - well bickering - between the pair of you.
You’d told Foggy that you were going to keep Matt at home even if it meant tying him down. As his best friends he agreed of course.
Once the soup was done and cool, placing it in the fridge was an easy task. Yes you’d said you’d wake him up but … he needed sleep more.
Walking to the couch as quietly as you could, you took the soft blanket from the back of it. Laying besides Matt, you were careful not to bump his injuries.
The blanket covered his sleeping form, and yourself, snuggling close to him. Kissing his chin, you smiled with a sigh, letting yourself rest beside the man you loved so much.
You felt arms squeeze around you, “Thought you were gonna wake me up?” Shaking your head, you rubbed your hand on his own, “Let’s rest Matty.”
“You’ll stay with me?”
“Always.”

Blind Faith Masterlist
Pairing: Matt Murdock x Reader
Summary: One college-drunken night, you didn't expect to be saved by the man in the mask. You didn't expect him to agree to walk you home, either. You especially didn't expect to enter into an affair with the masked vigilante. That's what happens when you follow faith blindly. You let yourself fall in love, with someone who won't even tell you who he is. On top of pining for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, you have to graduate NYU, take the LSAT, keep this secret, manage your social life and an internship at a law firm named Nelson & Murdock.

“Hey, Matt!” you said, walking into his apartment, knowing he could hear and smell you. “How are you?”
“Doin’ better now that you’re here. You’re happy today,” he says, putting on a shirt and walking into the living room.
“Yes sir,” you say, smiling and grabbing drinks from his fridge. “A really nice guy just asked me on a date. His name is-”
Matt’s face stiffened.
“Don’t go on that date.”
“Why not?”
“Because I said so.”
You were confused, yet hopeful. You'd always found Matt attractive, you wanted him to say the least. You knew that he picked up on it. But you never quite grabbed hints that he was feeling the same.
“Matthew,” you said sternly, “What's the problem? Is someone jealous?”
He smiled slightly, knowing you were playing with him, but quickly straightened out again.
“I’d fuck you against the windows of our firm before I let you go on that date.”
Woah.
Your heart rate picked up, and heat pooled between your thighs. He knew it, and he smiled.
“Can I kiss you, y/n?”
Instead of answering, you kissed him yourself. Everything you’d wanted all these years was coming together.
Soon enough that one kiss turned into much, much more. Your tongues explored each others mouths like you were starved. Matt’s fresh shirt was wrinkled and thrown elsewhere, along with your shoes and top somewhere.
Matt brought you to his room that you knew oh so well and onto the bed you'd slept in after so many late work nights.
He lifted your skirt, tilting his head up to you and opening his mouth to ask. But before he could, you spat, “Please, Matty. Please.”
Before you formed another coherent thought, his tongue was between your folds, groaning at your heat. His eyes rolled into the back of his head as he wrapped his lips around your mound and bringing his arms around your thighs.
As your legs tightened and twitched, he brought them closer to him, like he was diving for every last drop. He knew, with everything he had, that both of you were soaking in the growing scent of sex and hot air around you.
“Matty,” you mewled, and he knew you were close. he knew what you wanted. and he was going to bring you there.
And oh, did he.
He brought his middle and ring finger to your entrance, keeping his tongues attention on your nerves. Both sensations were almost too much for you, but it just felt so good.
And before you knew it, the band in your belly was coming close to snapping, and Matt’s arm was right around your thighs.
“So sweet,” he said, coming up for air and unbuckling his pants. “I’ve waited so long to hear those sounds you make, sweetheart.”
You got shy, closing your legs and bringing them up to your chest. He knew how to give you butterflies. He was quick to bring your legs back down and open, running his hands up and all over them.
“Don’t get shy now, baby,” he added, pulling his boxers off. He was bigger than you had expected. You’d seen him in boxers before, but never like this. If anything would make you shy, it was that.
It was agonizingly slow for him to put on a condom and bottom out within you. Soon enough you were wrapping your legs around him and making him fill you up. You winced lightly, but he groaned at the sensation of you around him.
Once you adjusted, he pulled himself almost all of the way out of you before slamming back in. He could have your heartbeat picking up and he starts moving with a similar rhythm.
Matt listened and paid attention to every way your body moved, snickered at the way your hands squeezed his arms above you, and groaned more and more with every plunge.
“You feel so good around me, sweetheart. I bet you can't even remember that guy’s name anymore, can you?”
You ignored him, eyes tightly shut and mouth open. You were close and he could tell.
“Matt I-”
“I know, angel. Just a little more, okay?” he said, bringing rough fingers to your clit again and rubbing tight circles. He had you clenching around him and your hands searching around his body.
“You're doing so good. And you're so fucking perfect.”
With that, you were cumming around him and screaming like a prayer. He followed soon after, soaking in the sounds and scent of sex surrounding you.
After cooling down, Matt pulled out and rolled over beside you, letting you fall under his arm.
“So no date then?” you asked, still drinking in the sensations.
“Only if it's with me.”

Guardian angel; Matt Murdock x teen daughter reader
*Author’s note*
Okay this little idea randomly popped into my head over the weekend so I decided to post it up here and see what you all think. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we NEED MORE DAREDAD FICS!!! Seriously this man DESERVES happiness *ted talk over*
Now the way I picture this fic is like PRE S.1 like just before the events of the first episode of the series. The early days of Matt being daredevil or in this case the Man in the Mask aka the Devil of Hell’s kitchen.
Warnings: fluff, some angst, teen pregnancy (protection was used but remember kids wrap it before you tap it), some chaotic religious aspects shown but not acted upon,

I knew I couldn’t hide this forever.  It was only a matter of time before he got too suspicious or worse found out about me and Austin’s…..I took a heavy breath as I bounced my leg anxiously and rubbed my hands over my face.
I heard my phone rang and across the screen was my favorite picture of Austin playing his acoustic guitar and my name for him flashed across the screen, “The King” with three heart emojis and a king emoji.  He was asking for a Facetime which I accepted.
“Hi baby.”
Tumblr media
“There’s my best girl.” I blushed as I ducked down.
“You know what that nickname does to me.”
“And I’ll still say it an infinite amount of times just to see you get flustered every time.”
Austin Callahan, probably one of the cutest boys at St. Maria’s Catholic School.  Captain of the swim team and the basketball team, honor student, and the nicest guy in the world who loves listening to Elvis music as well as all the oldies rock and roll? Could there be any other dream guy?
Not only that but we had been friends since we started our High school year until just last year at homecoming, he admitted to having feelings for me as he gave me a handmade rose he made from one of the napkins (I still have it to this day in my pencil cup on my desk at home).  From there our romance began to shine.
Of course being in a relationship, there was no hiding it from my dad.  Well when your dad is a lawyer like Matthew Murdock of “Nelson & Murdock” obviously you can’t hide anything from him.  Believe me I’ve tried in the past and he finds out every time.
Which is why I’ve taken up residence at my all-time bff Maddie’s place.  It’s not much (Hell’s kitchen never is) but it’s home, nevertheless.  The reason why I’m sleeping over at my friend’s house almost indefinitely is because—I’m pregnant.  Yep, 17 years old and I’m pregnant just short of a month and a half.
Past couple of weeks I’ve been getting really sick, like even just the smell of Hell’s kitchen’s smog is enough to make me puke my guts out.  I also began to realize that I hadn’t gotten my period yet.  So one day after school with Maddie at my side, we went to the local doctor’s office, told them about my symptoms and my late period and after some blood work and a pregnancy test, I came back positive.
Austin was the first person to tell and he was shocked at first but he took me by the hands, looked me in the eye and swore to me that he wasn’t gonna leave me like his daddy did him and his mama.  I was at least thankful to God above that I had the support of my friends and Austin, but the biggest hurdle was yet to come. My dad.
My dad is not just a Man of the Law, he’s also a Man of God. Not like holy religious that he beat the script of every verse of the Bible into me, or told me everyone is a sinner and everyone is going to Hell should they not repent (thank God).  But he did raise me to be a good Catholic girl ever since my mom died of cancer when I was only 2 years old.
He told me to always be aware of my surroundings, know the temptations, and don’t let anyone take advantage of you.  And just like that I gave into temptation and now I paid the price (before you say it YES we did use protection).
“How you feeling sweetheart? You ducked out of Chemistry class pretty quick.”
“I’d rather not relive that. I tried so hard to keep it in but that crap that Hilary was wearing as perfume became too much. I mean really there’s a reason why you don’t put on perfume in a classroom especially in a chemistry class. Can’t perfume catch fire or something?”
“Some can. But that scent she claimed she bought from Paris, she’d be a human candle if she got one knick of a Bunsen burner.” I laughed and said.
“Maddie gave me the homework for that class, god I still don’t get how you can understand all that stuff.”
“It’s not that hard really. I mean, we found good chemistry right?” I rolled my eyes and told him.
“That has literally got to be the worst cheesy pickup line I’ve ever heard.”
“Can’t blame me if I’m crazy positive about you.”
“Stop!” I whined as he laughed.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry I swear I’m done now.” He said through his adorable laughter.  “So you at Maddie’s again?”
“Yep. Thankfully my dad seems to buy into the fact that we’re doing a project together for history class and I just keep falling asleep here.”
“Wait but didn’t you guys finish that project last week?”
“Yeah but my dad don’t need to know that.”
“Babe. How long are you gonna hide your pregnancy from him?”
“I was thinking….maybe by the time our kid’s out of high school?” he raised his brow at me. “Okay, okay fine! I’ll…..I’ll tell him tomorrow after school. Will—will you be there with me?”
“Anything to take the tension off. It took two to tango after all. Plus I met your dad before, I know he’ll be okay with this.”
“I just….” I trailed off looking down at the ground sadly.
“What? What is it (Y/n)?”
“What if he doesn’t?”
“Babe…..”
“No, no Austin just—just listen for a second. Sure my dad’s cool, he’s a kickass upcoming lawyer. He’s not embarrassing, he’s not overbearing when it comes to us being Catholic, but what if he doesn’t want me anymore? Teenage pregnancies are frowned upon and as soon as I start really showing the signs, those hens are gonna cluck.”
“Then let them cluck. It’s not any of their business. This is about us, about you. Our child. Yes we’re still kids and yeah we’re still in school just about to get into adulthood, this is our life. If you still want to have this baby, I’m in. But if you change your mind down the line, I’ll support that too. Because we’re in this together baby girl.”
“How did I ever get so lucky to get you as my boyfriend?”
“Believe me, if anyone’s lucky it’s me. How I ever managed to convince you to be my girlfriend is a miracle that only the good Lord knows.” I smiled and said to him.
“Goodnight king.”
“G’night pretty mama.” He couldn’t help but say in his best Elvis impression.  I smiled and kissed my hand before blowing him a kiss and he did the same for me before winking at me and we ended the facetime call.
“I swear the way you two talk to each other makes me want to puke out butterflies and rainbows.” Maddie’s voice said.  I turned and she came in with some tomato soup, saltine crackers and pickles.
Another strange thing during my pregnancy is that every now and then I’m getting these cravings for the weirdest shit.  Like just the other day, I had sliced orange slices as a side dish for my mashed potatoes and everyone knows how much I loathe oranges (even the smell of them has made me gagged for years).  And yet I needed them, or I guess the baby needed them.
“Well that is if your strange food combos don’t make me first. You know how I’ve hated even looking at pickles.”
“I know I’m sorry. But you’re the best for getting some for me.” I said as I took a sliced pickle and put it between two crackers and ate it like a sandwich.  Maddie gagged and turned away as she turned on her tv and switched it to MTV to see our favorite show Ridiculousness was on.
“Ohhh I love this one with Sage. The Jeremy category makes me die everytime!” I exclaimed.
“I know right! But you also can’t beat when Ryan Sheckler came on the show and the animal stalkers category. That cat one still makes me think it was a weeping angel.”
“Right!? I swear all cats are the weeping angels familiars. I don’t care what any whovian says prove me wrong.” I said after slurping up my soup.
“So were you like for real about not telling your dad about the baby?” I dropped my spoon back into the bowl and set the tray aside.
“I thought you said you’d work on your snooping in on other people’s phone calls?”
“I did but when it’s a call this serious about my future godchild, I should have some say in it. And Austin’s right, you gotta tell your dad.”
“I know I should but…..do you remember what happened when Katelyn first came out as bisexual. Her parents completely disowned her and now she’s living with her cousin MJ in Queens. I got no other family to go to, what if my dad isn’t cool with…..I mean yeah I’ll have Austin and you but—”
“I get it. Really I do. I’ve seen how close you and your dad are, hell I’d trade my dad for yours any day.” I playfully shoved her.
“Your dad’s sweet.”
“Yeah sweet like a fly buzzing around me every second. Constantly in my business, wanting to look through my phone, I swear he’s the definition of a helicopter parent.” I looked down as I placed my hands over my lower abdomen where the baby was slowly growing.  “Hey,” Maddie wrapped an arm around me and I looked up at her, “Your dad loves you. He’s not like those crazy parents we’ve seen that come to preach about the Lord’s will or the End of the world. He won’t give up on you, I can just feel it.”
“I hope your right Maddie. I really hope so.” I looked at the clock and saw that it was just after 10:30pm.  “I’m getting kinda sleepy, think I’ll turn in for the night.”
“Yeah I’m gonna head to bed myself. Night (n/n).”
“Night Mads.” We hugged each other and she went across the hall into her room while I snuggled into my bed in her sister’s room (she had left for college in LA so it’s been used as a guestroom) and tried to get some sleep.
Time ticked by and while I was asleep and my eyes were shut, my brain was just buzzing with so many thoughts, fear and anxiety.  I got up from the bed and opened up the window that was near the fire escape and decided I needed some fresh air.
The cold autumn night wind blew over my thin pajama bottoms.  I almost wish I had grabbed a hoodie or her sister’s old fleece blanket before scaling up onto the roof.  I sat along the edge and just stared out into the city as I listened to the sounds of the sirens that passed by, the occasional stray dog barking or people shouting at each other.
“A bit cold to be up here by yourself.” A voice said behind me. I jumped out of my skin and was surprised to see the latest vigilante that had been rumored to be running around Hell’s kitchen.
Tumblr media
Unlike the Avengers, this man is said to be brutal against his enemies.  Unleashing his untamable wrath on the scum of Hell’s Kitchen but he never kills them (if you ask me from some of stories I hear, I’m surprised they aren’t dead).
The upper half of his face was covered with a black mask with no holes for his eyes.  Seriously how is he able to see through that material? His whole attire was black with a skin-tight black shirt showing off every bit of muscle on his upperbody, thick black pants and black combat boots.
“Coming from the guy wearing a skin-tight t-shirt.”
“You’ve got a quick wit.”
“Smart-mouth Murdock some of the kids call me at school. That’s why I’m co-Captain of the debate team.”
“Co-captain? I would assume you’d be captain.”
“Well there’s always someone clever than you, not to say he isn’t a good captain but he can be an asshole at times.” He turned to me. If I could see under the mask, I’d assume he’d be judging me for my foul language.  “Pardon my French.”
“I’ve heard worse. Mind if I sit?”
“I’d assume you’d be out there knocking out bad guys. You know kicking ass and taking names.” He let out a scoffed chuckle.
“I prefer not to take names. That’s one difference between the Avengers and me. I would prefer my name to not be publicly known. Not for my sake but for the people around me.”
“I get that.” I replied softly.  “I mean look at Captain America. He shouldn’t even bother with a mask cause everyone knows his name. And don’t get me started on Stark’s public announcement, “I am Iron-man”. No wonder why those aliens came for us if the heroes are publicly announcing to the world ‘hey we’re the big and strong Avengers and you can’t do anything about it’. And next thing you know BAM! Aliens are flying in kamikaze style and nearly blowing us all to hell.”
“A bit cynical for one so young.”
“Sorry. I get snippy and cynical when I’m anxious or stressed.”
“And why’s that?”
“I—” I trailed off.  He slowly scooted closer to me and said to me in a soft assuring manner.
“If you don’t want to tell me, that’s fine. But I’ve been told I’m a pretty good listener. Plus with the mask you won’t get any judgmental looks from me.” I picked at my nails as well as stroking my lower abdomen with my pinkie and ring fingers.
“The whole aspect of catholic guilt it—it’s eating me alive.”
“Catholic guilt?”
“You don’t want to hear this. This is just dumb teenage drama that all adults try to pin us with even when we’re going through some really hard and tough shit. It’s not always just teenage drama we have our own problems that you folks don’t seem to get and—” I went on a ramble until I felt him ground me by placed a hand on top of my shoulder.
“Hold on now, take a deep breath.” I turned to him and even through his black mask, I could almost feel the gentleness of his eyes as he had his body fully turned to me, giving me his full attention.  I slowly but sharply breathed in through my nose before exhaling shakily.
I did this a couple more times until they became deep, steady breaths.
“There we go. I could hear your heart racing erratically and you were on the verge of a panic attack.”
“You—can you really hear a person’s heartbeat? Or are you just messing with me?”
“It’s a long story but I have enhanced senses that allows me to hear better than most.”
“Wow. That is both dope and freaky at the same time.”
“I apologize if it’s invasive. I don’t mean to do it on purpose.”
“Call me crazy but I believe you.” A slight smile came at the corner of his lips.
“So shall we get back to that spill on catholic guilt?” I bowed my head.
“I was kinda hoping you’d forget about that.”
“I don’t mean to push. But I just feel like you want to talk to someone about this. Someone who isn’t a friend.”
“It’s……my dad.”
“Your dad? Wait he—he doesn’t hurt you, does he?”
“No nothing like that. He’s the best. I swear he’s like my best friend, well after Maddie but still he’s sweet, he’s caring, he’s compassionate. He raised me all by himself for so long that I—I’m afraid he won’t be with me anymore.”
“I’m sorry. I mean eventually we all have to die at some point in our lives. But I’m sure that won’t be for a long, long time for your dad. Unless he’s—”
“I’m not talking about losing him to old age or cancer. I’m talking about that he’ll never speak to me again!” I snapped.
God this pregnancy already has got me so antsy that even the slightest thing in my already stressed out mind, can make me explode. He froze in his spot and it looked like his body was tense at my sudden outburst.
“Jesus Christ,” I muttered burying my face into my hands.  “The truth is I—I found out just a week ago, that I’m…..I’m a month and a half pregnant with my boyfriend’s baby.”
If I could see under his mask, I’d bet his eyes are bulging out from underneath the satin material.
“Yeah. Pregnant at 17. Go ahead and make assumptions, call me names.”
“You’re sitting next to a guy who goes around wearing a skin-tight shirt and a mask that beats up bad guys late at night. As far as I’m concerned, I am the last person who should be judging you.” He adjusted in his spot as he asked me, “Does the father know?” I nodded.
“Yeah. He was the first person to find out after my best friend. And he’s been nothing but supportive. Even though we’re just about to graduate high school, he’s willing to help out with anything.”
“It’s just you’re afraid to tell your own father about your pregnancy.”
“Don’t get me wrong he’s a great guy. Like I said never once raised a hand to me, was fair in his punishments when I needed them. And he’s not like those so called ‘preachers of God’ that you see out in the streets proclaiming the Lord’s Will and the End of the world. But—he always told me to be careful especially around boys.”
“Were you careful?”
“Yes! Austin had the condoms and everything! But it still happens you know.”
“No I know. I remember my days in health class.” I shook my head shamefully.
“I just…..it’s always just been me and my dad. My whole life he’s always been there for me. Whenever life got tough, no matter how busy he was, he always took the time to check up on me. Even if it’s just a quick hug or a peck on the nose before calling me his ‘guardian angel’. What if—what if he hates me? Or decides I’m not his sweet guardian angel anymore but a shameful harlot of Lucifer?”
Tears stung behind my lashes and I harshly tried to wipe them away but that caused them to start falling down my face.  I curled myself inward before choking out.
“I need him now more than ever but I—I feel like he won’t be there for me this time. That when I reach my hand out for him, he’ll turn me aside and I’ll be drowning in the unknown world of parenthood. The guilt, the anxiety, forcing us to drift further and further apart from one another until I…..” I sniffled and wiped more tears as well as my nose with my sleeve. “I feel so alone.”
I felt his hand gently stroke down my hair before it moved down to my back, his gloved hand rubbing soothing circles on my back.
“He won’t abandon you. I promise.”
“You can’t promise that.”
“Yes I can.”
“How?” I choked out as I looked up to him.  I saw as his jaw tensed up before he said.
“Because…because I have a daughter.” I looked at him surprised. Of course, superheroes and vigilantes can have their own lives they don’t have to be full-time superheroes 24/7.
But who would’ve thought that the Man in the Mask aka the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen was a parent.
“You’re a……”
“She’s just around your age. And she means—the world to me. I would want her to be able to come to me for anything, to not be afraid to speak to me. But if she ever did feel the same fear you are now, then I’ve failed as a father.”
“No I—I’m sure you didn’t. It would have nothing to do with your parenting skills, it’s just…..I’ve had friends who had parents just as loving as my dad is. But when they admit to something that goes against their religious code, they disown them or try to repent their sins.”
“But you said your father isn’t like those types of people, right?” I nodded.  “I won’t lie. He will be shocked at the news, but give him time to process things and he might just surprise you for what he has to say.”
“I know I should tell him. I can’t hide at Maddie’s forever. But there’s still a lingering voice in my head telling me that when I do tell him, it’ll be the last time I ever see him. I’d give anything to shut that voice up.”
“If you’d like, I could have a word or two with that nagging voice in your head.” That brought probably the first real laugh out of me ever since finding out about my pregnancy.
“I hope those words aren’t with your fists.” He softly laughed.
“No, I mean a real talk. I’d tell it, ‘Alright you negative worm. Stop filling this poor girl’s head with scenarios that aren’t true. Go make like a tree and get out of here!’”
“It’s leaf. It’s make like a tree and leaf.”
“Right that’s it.” I shook my head as I kept laughing.
“You know, you’re not what I’d thought you’d be like.”
“Mean and scary?” I nodded. “Oh to most I’m terrifying but—I have a soft spot for those that are lost. Don’t tell anybody though. Can’t have the scum of Hell’s kitchen thinking I’m too much of a softie.”
“Your secret’s safe with me.”
“As is yours. Now you promise me you’ll tell your father in the morning?”
“Yes. First thing after school.”
“Good.” He said patting my knee.  “It’s late, you should get some sleep. You’re not just sleeping for yourself anymore now.” I rubbed my lower abdomen.  As he walked away and stood along the edge of the roof I told him.
“Thank you.” He turned to face me and gave me a soft nod before leaping off the roof and he disappeared into the night.  I scaled back down the fire escape and re-entered Maddie’s sister’s room and got back into bed.
As promised after school I stood by mine and dad’s apartment and took a deep breath in before exhaling.
“You sure you don’t need me to go in with you anymore baby? You know I don’t mind.” Austin told me.
“No sweetie, I—I need to talk to my dad about this alone.”
“Okay. If he shows leniency, give me a call later?” I nodded. He leaned forward and we kissed each other before he continued on his way home.  I took another deep breath and entered the apartment and headed for the elevator.
Once the elevator dinged on our floor, I walked down the hallway until I reached the apartment room.  Taking out my key I took another deep breath in and muttered.
“Okay, he won’t get mad. He won’t get mad. Just—tell him the truth. He’ll understand. He’s cool, he’s my dad and he loves me.” I placed the key into the lock, turned it to the left and heard the click and opened it up.
“Uh-huh, yeah. Alright yeah we can make it. Yes of course, thank you. Yes and have a good afternoon to you too, bye.” I heard my dad’s voice say as I walked through the front hallway until I got to the spacious (as spacious as a New York apartment in Hell’s kitchen can be).  “Well look whose returned. Finish your project already?”
“Dad I—I gotta tell you something.” I came right out with it.
“Okay, and what would that be?”
“Can we sit down on the couch?” he nodded before walking from the kitchen to the living room as we both sat on the couch.
“Is everything okay? Are you okay? Did someone hurt you?” he asked as he reached his hands out to cup my face.  I took his hands and held them between us.
“I’m fine dad. Physically I am.”
“And what about emotionally?” he asked concerningly.
“Dad, I…..I lied to you. I wasn’t at Maddie’s for a project.”
“You-you—you lied to me? Then where were y—you weren’t at Austin’s were you? (Y/n) we’ve talked about this you’re not old enough to sleepover at a boy’s……”
“Dad I wasn’t at Austin’s either. I was at Maddie’s just not for a project.”
“Okay then I’m lost. (Y/n) sweetheart you’re starting to scare me. Whatever it is you can tell me, you know that right?” he asked as he scooted himself as close as he could get to me and wrapped his arm around me.
“Dad I—the reason why I was at Maddie’s was because I……I’m—” come on just say it.  I swallowed a large lump in my throat and felt my leg beginning to bounce anxiously. “Promise you won’t get mad.”
“Go on.”
“You didn’t promise.”
“That’ll depend on what news I’ll be hearing. If it’s something illegal you know I won’t be happy.”
“Not really illegal. God I don’t know why I can’t just say it! Why can’t I tell you that I’m a month and a half pregnant!? I—” my mouth stopped as I realized how I had said it.  I looked at my dad anxiously and saw how he just sat there flabbergasted.
“Y-you-you’re…..” he leaned back against the couch and just sat there limp like a ragdoll.
“Daddy? Are you—okay?”
“Just….need to process this.”
“Okay.” I muttered as I fiddled with my uniform skirt.  We sat there in silence for a few minutes before he finally spoke out.
“Is it Austin’s?”
“Yeah. I swear dad we used protection but it—” he held out his hand telling me he didn’t need to hear anything else.  Oh shit this is it. He’s gonna flip his lid, he’s pissed now. Way beyond pissed!
“And you’re sure you’re really pregnant? How did you even get an appointment and why wasn’t I notified?”
“Maddie has an aunt. Her aunt Claire performed the test and she was sworn to secrecy to not notify you.” He rubbed his hands against his face as he let out a deep sigh, his leg bouncing rapidly.  Whether in anger or anxiety I couldn’t tell.
“Baby girl, why-why wouldn’t you tell me when you first found out? Why did you go through all of this trouble to lie to me about it?” my heart ached with guilt as tears began forming in my eyes.
“I’m sorry daddy. I—I was scared. Scared that you’d disown me or kick me out with no remorse or hesitation. Everytime I wanted to tell you, my brain kept showing me all the possibilities of you never wanting me to be in your life ever again. That you’d hate me or never say you had a daughter.”
I couldn’t look at him anymore so I closed myself into the edge of the couch and sniffled as I wiped my tears away.  I felt dad’s hand gingerly stroke down my hair before coming down to lift my chin up.
I noticed how he had taken his red shades off and placed them on the table.  Very rarely does he ever take them off, even around me but when he does, it’s always because he wants to connect with me (even though he’s blind).  His unfocused gaze was staring in my general direction as he said to me.
“I’m not mad at you.”
“Y-you’re not?”
“No. I’m—taken by surprise don’t get me wrong. But it takes more than you getting pregnant at 17 for me to ever, ever, ever, think about disowning you or telling you you’re no longer my child.”
“Really?” I whispered.
“Yes.” He said giving me a nod.  “So don’t ever go thinking like that again, okay?” my lip trembled as I nodded. “Okay?”
“Yeah.” I choked out.
“Okay.” I immediately hugged him as tightly as I could as I buried my face into his shoulder.  His arms immediately wrapped around me as he chuckled softly.
“Oh daddy I’m so sorry I hid this from you!” I wept.
“I know you are angel. It’s okay now, it’s okay.”
“It’s just….I love you so much and I thought you’d—”
“Hey none of that now. There will be no more talk about the paranoid ‘what if’s’ in this apartment. There will never come a time when I tell you to get out of my life or that you aren’t my daughter anymore.” He said as he had me look up at him and he wiped away my tears.  “You’re the most important person to me angel, and nothing will ever change that.”
I buried my face into my dad’s shoulder again and hugged him once again.
“I love you daddy.”
“And I love you my little guardian angel. I love you so, so much. And nothing will ever change that.” He said giving me a reassuring squeeze before kissing my forehead as many times as he possibly could.

Is It Over Now? | Matt Murdock x Reader
Masterlist
Pairing: Matt Murdock x Reader ; (hinted) Frank Castle x Reader ; Elektra Natchios x Matt Murdock
Summary: Matt cheated on you, and you are trying to navigate through it.
Warnings: Angst, no happy ending, break-up, mention of cheating, song references (Taylor Swift), inspired by 'Is It Over Now?', (some) Matt "slander", (somewhat) suicidal thoughts, alcohol consumptions, hint at smut
Word Count: 1.7k
A/n: 1989 TV came out and I am losing my shit. Is It Over Now? Is my new favorite song and I just had a brain fart that made this. You can read this if you're a Swiftie and catch the references or just read it without listening to the song. It works either way.

It wasn’t supposed to end like this.
To be fair, there was a time when you thought it would never end. The thought of ever having a last kiss with him would have killed you back then.
He told you that you were the love of his life. You believed him. He was yours, certainly. You can’t deny that.
You were happy, you laughed and cried together, and part of you figured that if you ever broke up, you would find a way to work through it somehow.
Maybe in another universe, you are still together. Maybe in another universe, you two are still friends. Maybe in another universe, you never had to lose each other.
In this reality though—in this brutal, unforgivable reality—everything changed in a matter of a day. And there is nothing you can do about it now.
Your flower was withering in secret, and you didn’t realize what it was doing to you. Every time you woke up alone, every canceled date, every time he called you and told you he wouldn’t make it home tonight, it was sure to build up to this.
But this, whatever the hell this is, it hurts beyond compare.
He said you were a rose, but now that you look in the mirror, you only see a rotten mess.
The past few months have done this to you. He has done this to you. The paper airplanes crashed and burned. There is nothing left but pure bitterness and this hatred you have toward yourself and him; you just want to land your fist in his face, and then maybe your own because how could he hurt you like that after making you love him so very much?
You loved him so much, but now you doubt he ever loved you back.
Date after date, coffee after coffee, nights spent together on his couch and in his bed, sharing laughter, sharing tears, it all feels like a hoax now.
You held him when he was unconscious, stitched him up and told him he was going to be okay. Where was he when you were bleeding out from your own battles? You wonder.
His smile used to be your safe haven, the epitome of innocence and strength, but now it only makes you angry. It makes you resent him. You shouldn’t, you really shouldn’t, but you still do.
So much has changed, and all it took was one day.
One day.
Three hundred days, all wasted in one.
If you think about it, you spent almost an entire year attached to each other’s side. You moved in together. You kissed, you had sex, you shared secrets you wouldn’t have told anyone else. You helped him hide away from the world, from his enemies, made the world go quiet, and comforted him while he cried. You waited up, you worried, and you almost lost him more times than you can count, and you still stayed.
When no one else would take a chance on him, when he felt everyone was against him and going to leave him, you acted as his rock. You stayed.
You thought he was the one.
And then it just… ended.
You gave him the benefit of the doubt when you found her in his dress shirt on his leather couch. The very same couch you two often shared passionate nights on, but at the same time it used to be a symbol of so much more than that.
You let him explain. He explained that she got seriously hurt after showing up out of nowhere, and he just wanted to help without putting you at risk. You believed him because that is the kind of man he was in your head. He was going through some things, things you couldn’t possibly understand, and she was the connection. You tried to understand. In the process of understanding him though, you lost yourself.
That is something you will never forgive him for. Making you care, making you love him, and unintentionally making you give up on yourself while he continued to break your heart.
You never wanted this to end, never wanted him to go, but in the end, it was the only way. Sticking around wasn’t an option anymore, you have to remind yourself.
He did the one thing he promised he would never do. He broke your heart and your trust into a million pieces that you are now left to pick up on your own.
You didn’t want to see it before. You were too in love to open your eyes.
He wouldn’t do such a thing, right? You remember repeating that to yourself, to your friends, to Foggy and Karen, but Karen saw him with her, too, and she gave you little hope.
Still, you believed in him. You believed in his morale and his faith. You had faith in him, not even in God but in him and the man he pretended to be—and somehow, he still picked up the knife when you weren’t looking and buried it in your back.
There were so many signs, but you were blind. So many flashing lights. Red flags. Screaming voices in the back of your head begging you to think. You were in a forest full of trees, yet you saw nothing.
When you came home to find his lips on hers, that’s when you knew. Too little, too late.
He called your name. He told you, “This isn’t what it looks like!” But you lost count of the times he used the same line in relation to her.
To anything, really. He always knew how to talk his way out of something when you were together, although back then, it was mostly harmless.
“I trusted you,” you remember saying. You couldn’t even cry. “And you turned right back around and fucked her!”
“It was just a kiss,” he argued.
“Are you sure about that? ‘Cause if I ask Elektra, I’m sure she will tell me the truth.”
“No,” Matt was adamant because he could hear your heart breaking.
The way you spoke to him was so eerily quiet. That was how he knew he lost you, and he tried to fix it with nothing but his hands.
But that is not how you fix a broken vase. That’s how you make it worse and hurt yourself in the process.
You remember him opening his mouth, having the audacity to apologize. “I’m sorry,” he said.
“No. Fuck you, Matt!”
You tore the necklace with his initial off your neck and tossed it at his feet. You couldn’t even look at it. You wonder what happened to it after he picked it up.
“I trusted you. I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I was there when no one else was, and this is how you repay me?” you said.
You should have never let him fool you.
At least you had the decency to keep your lonely nights to yourself.
“Sweetheart, please,” Matt tried to beg again.
You wouldn’t let him. Thank God you were strong enough to withstand the tears in his eyes.
“You’re a fucking traitor, Matthew Murdock,” was one of the last things you said to him. “I wish we’d never met.”
Three hundred days. You fell in love. You finally knew what love felt like, and then…then he turned around and fucked it all up.
“We’re done.”
Some days, you still regret it, but if it was so easy for him to toss all this time together down the drain, he probably wasn’t worth it.
But God, you were so in love.
Sweet nothings whispered in your ear are gone now. You’re all alone in your bed. No one to cuddle, no one to touch. It has been a while since you heard someone say, “I love you,” and mean it. You felt loved until you didn’t. Until the life he led ate him up.
Instead of talking, instead of fighting with you, he drove you into a tree. A car that didn’t need sight, and still he crashed. It was winter then, the snow painted red by the blood of your broken heart. Your favorite dress torn up as you tried to escape. He reached for you the same way you reached for him, but you weren’t there. And he wasn’t there when you needed him most.
Part of you feels bad. You could have worked through this if he hadn’t kissed her. Or maybe you wouldn’t have. In the end, it killed you. It killed him.
You killed each other.
Though there are still days when you think about jumping off of very high somethings just to get his attention. Just for him to see you. To come to rescue you. It is a hurtful and selfish thought. Yet, you can’t help it.
He was your first true love.
Your mind keeps repeating the same sentence: It wasn’t supposed to end like this.
“You’re the best thing that ever happened to me,” he told you once.
He searched for something greater in the bed of someone he loved before. You weren’t his first love. You should have known he would say that and not mean it.
But when exactly did you go wrong?
Was it over when he stopped coming home at night? Was it over when he forgot your anniversary? Was it over when he canceled your birthday dinner? Or was it over when he shoved his throat down his ex-girlfriend’s throat in front of you and acted as if it didn’t matter? Was it over then?
“Another one for the lady,” a voice pipes up beside you.
Your empty glass of tequila disappears, now replaced by a full one. In your drunken haze, you see a head of brown hair, and his smirk makes you wonder if there’s more to him than he lets on.
“Thank you,” you murmur, tipping your glass to the stranger.
“Nah, don’t thank me.” He sits down next to you. “You look miserable.”
“What if I am?”
“I’d tell you I know the feeling.”
You huff but offer the stranger your hand with a mention of your name.
He smiles. Your name rolls off his tongue effortlessly. “Frank,” he introduces himself in return. “Castle.”
“Nice to meet you,” you say.
Broken people make bad decisions, but whether it was over when he took her right there on his couch, or it was over when you told him it was doesn’t matter.
It is over now, and all you want to do is forget.
You need to forget Matt Murdock.
And if this stranger called Frank needs to unbutton your blouse to help you do so, you will gladly follow him home.

Light My Love (Matt Murdock x Reader)
MASTERLIST // TAG LIST REQUEST
A/N: I tweaked the request just a bit, but I think I like how it came out! Thanks for requesting, nonnie! Also, I'm realizing that I need to write more happy Matt lmfao all i write for him is angst and this poor man just needs to be HAPPY!
Request: could you do a fic where reader gets hurt from matt’s work and he keeps blaming himself and reader comforts him?
Tumblr media
Summary: Matt is in serious need of comfort when he blames himself for your injuries. (Someone pls hug this man he NEEEEEDS it)
(Warnings: angst (what’s new lmfao), some mentions of violence, matt leans heavy into self-hatred in this one, fluffy matt, matt makes pancakes at the end lol)
The drip from the leaky faucet in the corner of your cell was beginning to grate on your nerves. You’d already tried everything to get it to stop – slamming your shoe on it repeatedly, twisting the handles all the way around, trying to pull the entire thing from the wall. It was no use. The water kept coming, and you kept waiting for it to stop.
It had been two days since you’d last seen Matt – two days since you’d interfered with his mission and gotten yourself kidnapped by some low-level cartel members. Your stomach hadn’t stopped rumbling, and the little sleep you had been able to get was restless.
The guys who kidnapped you weren’t particularly interested in you. They had thrown you in the windowless cell and mostly ignored you since then, but you could hear them moving around on the floor above you at all hours of the day. You had to give them credit – they might be idiots, but they were observant enough to recognize that Daredevil cared about you. That’s why they grabbed you, and that’s why you were kicking yourself for getting involved in Matt’s business.
You hadn’t really been trying to get involved. Truly. Matt may be a hot mess, but he was always on time, and when he never showed up for your dinner date, you got worried. A gnawing concern ate at your stomach as you walked around Hell’s Kitchen searching for any sign of him. The next thing you knew, a knife was being held to your throat and Matt was being beaten into the concrete in front of you.
You had distracted him, and it had gotten both of you hurt. Or killed. You didn’t know where Matt was. You tried not to think about it – the idea that your life partner could be dead because of your mistake. Instead, you focused on the pattern the goons in the room upstairs were making on the ceiling.
Three steps to the left, two forward, three to the right. Maybe they were dancing? You hadn’t been able to figure it out, but the pattern had grown to be a soothing white noise in the background of this living hell.
A thud on the ceiling startled you out of your lightheaded haze, followed shortly by the unmistakable scream of one of the men upstairs. The sounds that followed were as terrifying as they were relieving. He was here. You crawled to your feet, leaning on the wall for support and listening to the screams as they got closer and closer to you.
Your knees buckled as Matt’s broad frame kicked through the door. He was a sight to behold in his full Daredevil gear, crimson colored and scary as hell. You whimpered as he fell to his knees in front of you, one hand resting on your cheek while the other held your body weight up.
“Tell me you’re okay. Tell me they didn’t hurt you, sweetheart.” Matt’s voice cracked as he looked you over for injuries.
The lower half of Matt’s face, the part that was visible with the mask on, was covered in scruff. You could tell he hadn’t shaved since the last time he saw you. Probably hadn’t eaten or slept either. Tears finally began to stream down your cheeks. He was here, and he was breathing, and he was okay.
“Matty.” Your throat was dry and scratchy from the hours you had spent screaming at your captors, begging them to free you.
Matt lifted you in his arms, cradling you against his chest and walking out of the cell and towards the back of the building. The unconscious bodies in the hallway were enough to remind you how dangerous Matt could be when he let the devil out, but you weren’t afraid. You would never be afraid of Matt.
When Matt exited the building, you were expecting the sunlight to temporarily blind you, but it was almost as dark outside as it was in your dingy cell. You were about to ask Matt how far away from home you were when you realized he was headed directly towards a parked car around the corner.
Foggy jumped out of the driver’s seat, hurrying to open the back door so Matt could climb in with you.
“Is she okay?” he asked, swallowing thickly.
“She’s-” Matt’s voice was gruff, “She’s alive,” he finally said, leaning forward to climb into the car. He didn’t let go of you, even when he sat down and Foggy had pulled away from the curb. He just tightened his grip on you, pulling you even closer to his body. The ache to touch him grew in you tenfold when you realized how exhausted you both were. You lightly began tracing the bottom of the mask, tugging the material over Matt’s head.
He was always beautiful, but you could see the strain of the last few days in the way he hung his head low. His eyes, usually so pretty and full, were muted in color and half-lidded.
“Did you sleep at all while I was gone, my love?” You mumbled, scratching the scruff on his cheeks and chin.
“I had to find you. It wasn’t an option.” He bit out, trying to hide the groan crawling up his throat at your touch.
“I’m sorry I-” You started, tears welling up in your eyes.
“Don’t apologize,” Matt sounded distraught, “Why are you apologizing? It’s me who should be begging on my knees for your forgiveness.” A tear made its way down his cheek, falling onto your shoulder.
You furrowed your brow, glancing at Foggy, who was doing his very best to look like he wasn’t overhearing a very intimate conversation between his best friends.
“I don’t understand, Matty,” You finally responded, wiping under his eyes with your thumbs.
“I’m meant to protect you. That’s my job, and I failed. You got hurt, and it’s my fault, and I wouldn’t blame you if you left me the minute we get home. I am undeserving of anyone’s love, but most of all yours.”
Stunned silence filled the car. Matt’s eyes were squeezed shut, trying and failing to stop the overflow of tears falling down his face. Foggy’s expression was one of pure concentration as he navigated New York City traffic, but his frequent glances in the mirror read as a deep concern for his friend.
“Matty, hey, don’t do that. I’m the one that messed up. I followed you when I should’ve trusted that you would be okay. It was my fault, not yours.”
“Stop.” He gritted out, resting his head on the headrest behind him.
You fell silent, resting your head on his chest. He couldn’t be rational when he was this worked up, and you were so exhausted that you didn’t want to argue with him.
Foggy pulled around the back of Matt’s apartment building and you reached for Matt’s mask. Even though the clock on the dashboard said it was 3:42 in the morning, you couldn’t risk Matt being seen by anyone without his mask on. You pulled it onto his face, planting a soft kiss on his cheek when you were finished.
When Foggy opened the door, you moved to climb out yourself, but Matt wouldn’t let you budge. He climbed out, still holding you against his body.
“I’m not made of glass, ya know,” you said, scoffing at Matt’s unwillingness to let you go and then turning to Foggy, “Thank you, Foggy. We can talk...later?”
“Yeah, yep. Mhmm.” Foggy was looking between you and Matt, scrunching his eyebrows together in what you could only describe as a mix of confusion and concern. You smiled, nodding at him reassuringly even though dread was beginning to build in your gut.
Matt swiftly carried you through the apartment building, refusing to set you down until he had locked the door behind him with the deadbolt, and even then, he would only set you down on the couch.
As soon as he let you go, you jumped to your feet, immediately swaying with exhaustion. Matt sighed, pulling his mask off and shaking his head.
“How long has it been since you slept, sweetheart?” He asked, unbuttoning his suit and pulling the different pieces of it off one at a time.
“I don’t...” you started, trying to blink the exhaustion from your eyes, “I don’t know.”
He tugged on your hand, leading you to the bedroom, where you collapsed onto the bed with a sigh.
“Matty, the sheets.” You tried to push yourself off, not wanting to stain his sheets with the scent of that awful place, but he lightly pushed you back down.
“Don’t worry about them. Sleep, sweetheart.” He pressed a kiss onto your forehead, resting his lips there for a few seconds longer than normal. You realized when he stood and didn’t move towards the door that he would continue standing there until you fell asleep.
Luckily for him, your eyes were on their way to closing whether you liked it or not, so you let the exhaustion wash over your body and drifted off to sleep almost immediately.
//
When you woke, you couldn’t figure out what day it was, or how much time had passed since you’d fallen asleep. The sheets had been changed, and you were wearing one of Matt’s big T-shirts. Matt was sitting on the other side of the bed, back pressed against the headboard. He was clean shaven and wearing new clothes, but he still looked exhausted.
“Did you sleep at all?” You asked, pushing your body into a sitting position. The soreness in your muscles startled you. You hadn’t noticed the stiffness earlier, but the adrenaline pumping through your veins was probably the only thing that kept you going for as long as you did. That, or you had been asleep for much longer than you realized.
“Some.” He responded, finally looking in your direction.
You crawled forward, swinging your leg over his hips so you could straddle him. It wasn’t a sexual movement, and Matt knew that. You had spent many mornings in this exact position, holding each other and talking about everything and nothing all at the same time. Matt’s hands brushed over your exposed thighs, settling on your waist.
“You shaved.” You pointed out, eyeing his expression. You hadn’t forgotten the conversation from the car, and you weren’t planning on moving until you and Matt had finished talking.
“You don’t remember?” he asked, tilting his head.
“I guess not.”
“A few hours after you fell asleep, you got up begging to take a shower. I changed the sheets and shaved while you did that.”
“Oh.” You mumbled. Your hands toyed with the hair at the nape of Matt’s neck.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart.” Matt’s face had fallen so quickly that it broke your heart. He buried his head in your shoulder, wrapping you in a hug in the same motion. “I’m so, so sorry. Could you ever forgive me?”
“Matty,” you sighed, hugging him tightly, “There’s nothing to forgive. You saved me before anything really bad could happen.”
“What if I couldn’t find you? What if you died in that cell because I couldn’t make it in time?” He pressed his forehead against yours and let out a shuttering breath. He was seconds away from breaking completely.
“Baby, you did find me, and I’m okay. I only have a few bumps and bruises. You saved me, Matt.”
Matt’s face contorted into a mask of rage – not at you, but at himself.
“I promised I would protect you. That’s the most important promise I’ve ever made, even more than any promises I’ve ever made to God, and I broke it.” His voice cracked and he tightened his hold around you.
“Matty, you saved me. And you wouldn’t have had to protect me if I hadn’t gone looking for you. I knew you were working a dangerous case and I went anyways. This isn’t your fault, baby.”
Matt’s body shook as he cried into your shoulder. He was hugging you so tightly that not even God himself could’ve pried his fingers away from you. You couldn’t tell how much time was passing, but you didn’t mind. You kissed Matt’s hair, ran your hands up and down his back, and hugged him back just as tightly. You would do this forever if you had to.
When Matt finally righted himself and sat back, his eyes were swollen and red. You couldn’t help the kisses you placed on his eyelids. He just looked so pretty, and he always relaxed under your touch, so you leaned in, planting a kiss on his lips.
“I love you.” Matt whispered, squeezing your waist for emphasis.
“I love you, Matty.” You smiled, kissing him again. Your stomach loudly growled, and Matt gave you a small smile.
“You’re hungry, sweetheart.”
“I guess I am.” You giggled.
“Want some pancakes?” he asked, bringing his lips to yours again.
You suddenly looked around, trying to figure out what time of day it was.
“How long did I sleep for?” You finally asked after not being able to figure out if it was dawn or dusk.
“You slept most of the day away. It’s probably around 6 or 7 now.” Your stomach growled again.
“Then hell yes, I want some pancakes.” You jumped off Matt, tugging him out of bed with you. You pulled him in for another kiss. “But only if I get to see your pretty smile first.”
Matt’s grin melted your heart. It always did, but after what you both went through over the last few days, seeing him smile again was like rain after a drought.
“There it is.” You mumbled, matching his grin.
You could’ve sworn a blush crept up Matt’s neck, but you didn’t want to make him so embarrassed that he couldn’t make your pancakes, so instead of mentioning it, you pulled him towards the kitchen, squeezing his hand the entire way. He didn’t let go, even when you sat down to eat. Later, when his exhaustion finally caught up to him, you snuggled next to him in bed, refusing to let go of him for the rest of the night.

“Come back to bed, Matty.”
You were wrapped up in his blankets looking over at Matt who was pulling clothes out of his dresser. He had only gotten you to let him out of your arms when he threatened to pee on you. But now he was defying his orders to immediately return to bed.
“Foggy called,” he said. “We’ve got a problem with the Asimov case.” He picked up a shirt and then went to sit on the edge of the bed.
“Let Foggy handle it,” you said. Matt rested his hand on your hip over the blanket as he smiled down at you.
“We’re partners, sweetheart,” he said.
“No, you’re a control freak,” you said flatly.
“I am not a control freak,” Matt said with a laugh.
“Aren’t you, daddy?” You teased him.
“Don’t start,” Matt warned. You sighed.
“Matty, you told me that we’d have the whole weekend together,” you complained.
“And we will, sweetheart. I’ll only be gone a few hours. It’s just a quick meeting,” he said. Matt started to rise. You reached forward and grabbed the hand that Matt had resting on your hip.
“You promised, Matt.” Matt could feel the way you were staring at him. He could sense the disappointment in your expression and taste the salt in the air as tears welled in your eyes. It was the use of his name that changed his mind. You didn’t call him ‘Matt.’ Ever. You called him ‘Matty,’ or ‘Murdock,’ and even the occasional ‘Matthew,’ but never Matt. Not since your second date. He had to stay.
“I did, didn’t I?” He asked rhetorically.
“Yes. You did,” you said firmly. He nodded.
“I’ll call Foggy and tell him I can’t go,” he said. He heard your face move as you smiled.
“Thank you, Matty,” you said.
“You don’t need to thank me,” Matt said. “I promised you. Wouldn’t be a very good boyfriend if I didn’t keep my promises.”
“You’re a good boyfriend, Matthew,” you said softly. You tugged on his hand, pulling it up to your lips to kiss his knuckles.
“Am I? Really?” His voice was raw and you could hear the fear in his tone.
“Matty,” you murmured. You sat up from the bed and swung your legs over the edge so you could face Matt properly. You took his other hand in yours, your fingers tangling between his. “Are you serious?”
“Yeah, I mean…I’ve never been with someone this long. I don’t know how I’m doing. And it’s not like I’m…normal,” he said. You chuckled.
“You think I want someone normal?” You teased him.
“You know what I mean, sweetheart. You got a lot more than you bargained for with me,” Matt said. There was worry on his face. You hated to see him like that, especially on his day off. You looked up at him. You still had his hands in yours but he felt miles away.
“Sit down with me, Matty,” you called to him as you tugged on his arms. Matt smiled softly, the expression on his face lightening. He sat on the edge of the mattress, but you pulled him back further onto the bed so you could seat yourself in his lap, straddling his hips. He chuckled as you shoved him around.
“Was pushing me necessary to the conversation?” Matt asked as his hands settled on your ass. You pushed your hands against his chest gently.
“Sorry, do you want me to get off?” You taunted him. His grip on your body tightened.
“Don’t you dare,” he said. You giggled as you slid your hands over his chest up to his shoulders, one of them reaching behind his neck to play with the hair at the nape of his neck. There was a moment of quiet as you looked over every inch of Matt. He smiled softly as he felt the way you were looking at him, knowing that just as he did with you, you paid attention to every detail of him that you could sense.
“You’re a good boyfriend, Matthew,” you said after a moment.
“You swear?” He asked.
“Matty, the vase in my kitchen hasn’t been empty since we started dating,” you said.
“Anyone could buy you flowers,” he said. He was a true Catholic, never taking credit for any of the good things he did.
“But no one else ever has,” you told him. A frown remained on Matt’s face. You were searching for what to say to him to make him understand just how good he really was. “You are the best boyfriend I’ve ever had, Matty,” you said frankly.
“You’re just trying to make me feel better,” he said dismissively. He looked so forlorn and it was breaking your heart. You took a deep breath, gearing up to tell him something you had known for a while, but had been too afraid to say.
“I love you,” you said. Matt’s head snapped up to face you.
“Really?” He asked in disbelief. You smiled softly at him.
“Yeah, Matty. I love you. A lot, actually,” you told him. Matt grinned.
“I love you too,” he said. “Also a lot,” he added. You chuckled lightly. You leaned forward and kissed Matt gently, but he pulled you in closer, sliding his tongue into your mouth and moving it against yours. His hands explored the curves of your body beneath the old Columbia shirt of his you were wearing.
“Let me show you, sweetheart. Let me make you feel my love,” Matt murmured against your lips. “Please, baby,” he pleaded when you didn’t respond immediately.
“Show me, Matty,” you drawled. “I want to feel you.” Matt let out a low groan. He pushed you down onto your back sliding down between your legs. His fingers were drawing lines down your sides as he settled on his stomach. He found the waistband of your underwear. His head turned in your direction.
“May I?” Matt asked. You nodded.
“Please,” you whispered. He smirked as he tugged down your underwear. He pushed your legs apart and reached out his hand running his thumb along your opening. You were wet already. You were wet pretty much any time you were around Matt. He knew and he relished in the smell of you any time he was around you. It cut above the perfume you wore and the scented shampoo. It haunted his senses and made him desperate for you anytime you were near.
“Hmm,” he hummed contentedly. “So wet. Is it for me?” His voice sounded innocent somehow. Sweet and unassuming. Like he didn’t already know the answer.
“Of course it’s for you, Matty. Always you. Only you.” Matt moaned.
“I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you t—ahh!” Matt dove his tongue into your pussy, slurping at your hole before moving to lick circles around your clit.
“You taste so fucking good, sweetheart,” he muttered against you. “Absolutely divine.”
“Feels so good, Matty,” you murmured. Matt alternated between fucking you with his tongue, suckling on your clit, and licking circles around it. He listened closely to your heart and your breathing, focusing on the same spot whenever your heart picked up a bit or your breath caught in your throat. “Matty?”
“Hmm?” He hummed against you. You moaned wildly at the vibrations
“Your fingers,” you panted out. Two of his fingers found your entrance plunging into you at once. You moaned loudly as Matt began thrusting his ring and middle fingers in a solid rhythm against your walls.
“C’mon, sweetheart,” he murmured against your body. “Give me what I want.” You let out a strangled moan as Matt wrapped his lips around your clit once more and sucked harshly, making your orgasm crash into you like a tidal wave. Matt kept his movements against your body until he felt your hand pulling at his hair tugging his head away from your body. “Feel good?” He teased you. He listened as you caught your breath, relishing in every moment that you were unable to speak. You smiled at Matt when you had recovered. You pulled him up your body and pushed him onto his back.
“Your turn, Murdock,” you sang sweetly. Matt listened as you grabbed his underwear and pulled them down his legs. His hard cock sprang up, finally free of its constraints. You let out a small hum of pleasure at the sight and Matt smirked.
“You like what you see, sweet girl?” He taunted.
“You know I do,” you said as you settled between his legs. You reached forward and wrapped your fingers around the base of Matt’s cock. His breath hitched. You gave him a gentle squeeze. “Mmm. Can’t wait to have you inside me.”
“We can skip to that part,” Matt called down. You chuckled.
“No, Murdock. You’ve gotta feel how much I love you too,” you said. Before he could reply you leaned down and took the tip of his dick in your mouth. Matt moaned roughly. You sucked at the tip, sliding your tongue through the slit at the top of his cock. His breathing was growing more and more ragged, but you were still focusing only on the tip.
“Take the whole thing, baby. Please,” Matt whined. You hummed a ‘no’ around him and he let out a whimper. “Please, baby. Please. Just a little bit more, baby. Just a little deeper.” You kept your focus on his tip and Matt gave a pained whine. He threw his head back against the mattress in frustration. You smiled around him before pushing yourself down his whole cock, letting him hit the back of your throat.
“Fuck, baby!” Matt shouted. He jerked his hips against you and moaned loudly. You bobbed your head up and down a few times, moving your hand in unison with your mouth. Matt was gasping and whimpering when you took his balls in your free hand, squeezing them gently.
“Fuck, baby, I’m gonna come,” Matt cried. “Don’t stop, feels so good!” His hand went to your hair, winding into it so he could control your movements slightly. You only made a few more strokes before you felt him spilling into your mouth. Matt was moaning and his hips were shaking against the mattress. You hummed happily at the taste of his cum, swallowing every drop. You leaned back onto your knees and smiled down at him as he came down from his high, gasping and twitching as he settled.
“Can you go again?” You asked when he had calmed. Matt chuckled.
“For you? Always.” He said. He sat up from the mattress and smashed his mouth against yours. He wrapped his arms around you and flipped you over, throwing you onto your back. You giggled. Matt was kissing all down your body, every inch of you covered by him in some way or another.
“Do you need a minute?” You asked. Matt’s lips popped off your nipple, licking over the nub before moving his lips up to your neck.
“Tell me you love me again,” Matt murmured against your neck. You smiled.
“I love you, Matthew Murdock. More than I’ve ever loved anyone,” you sang. Matt moaned deeply.
“I don’t need a minute,” he said. You looked down and saw that he was hard again. You felt your heart throb as you realized that your love was what turned Matt on. You let out a small moan of your own.
“Please, Matty,” you whined. Matt lined his tip up with your soaked entrance. He slowly began pushing into you, both of you moaning in unison as his cock stretched you out. You could feel every inch of him filling the emptiness that you felt when he wasn’t around. He was deep inside you, reaching places in your body that no other man had touched. He started to pull out again once he was all the way inside you, but you grabbed his hips and pulled his body into yours.
“Wait!” You called. “I need to feel you this way,” you said. Matt nodded. He pushed deeper into you, so that there wasn’t any space between the two of you. “God, you’re so deep, Matty.” Your cunt flexed around Matt and he groaned.
“Fuck, baby,” he muttered. “Your pussy’s so fucking tight.”
“It’s your pussy, Matty. Belongs to you,” you moaned. Your hands moved to Matt’s shoulders, holding him firmly. “Fuck me, Matty.” Matt shifted onto his forearms and began slowly moving his hips against you. You lifted your legs and wrapped them around his hips. He began to hit you at a deeper angle as he sped up, creating a steady rhythm against your body. You started moaning roughly as Matt began rolling his hips. You dug your nails into his back.
“Does that feel good, sweetheart?” He taunted. You nodded and let out a strangled moan in agreement.
“Love your cock, Matty!” You cried roughly. He grabbed your legs, unhooking them from his body.
“Turn over and get on your knees,” Matt instructed you as he pulled out. You whined when you felt empty again, but quickly followed his instructions. Matt took your hip in one hand and his cock in the other. He lined himself up and pushed his tip into you. He stilled his hips once he’d gotten his head in. You looked over your shoulder at him, wondering what the hold up was and saw him grinning at you. You were about to question him when he opened his mouth. “Work for it.”
“Yes, daddy,” you said. You turned back to face forward as you pushed your hips back against Matt. He moaned roughly as he felt you wrapped all the way around him once more. You began pushing your hips back against him in a steady rhythm, pulling moans from yourself as you worked against his cock.
“I need you deeper,” you cried. Matt leaned forward and grabbed your shoulder, pulling you away from the mattress and against his chest. He grabbed your arms, holding them behind your back. He began thrusting into you quickly, slamming his hips against yours.
“Is this deep enough for you, baby?” Matt whispered in your ear. You felt his cock pushing into the wall of your stomach as his relentless movements continued.
“Yes, daddy! Feels so good!” You screamed. Matt reached around your body with his free hand and began rubbing quick circles on your clit. The noise you made was almost inhuman in the amount of pleasure it proved.
“Come on my cock and I’ll fill you up, sweetheart,” Matt growled into your ear.
“Ohh! Fu–u–uck, Matty!” You cried. His words were enough to push you into your orgasm and you let out a high pitched whine as pleasure overtook your body. You shook uncontrollably in Matt’s arms and your eyes rolled back in your head. Your walls were pulsing relentlessly against his cock and he let out a deafening groan as he came into you. He fell forward onto the mattress, trapping your body beneath him as you milked him of everything he had to give you.
You were both catching your breaths, your minds reconnecting with your bodies after the overwhelming pleasure of the orgasms you’d given each other.
“You’re squishing me,” you murmured against the pillow when you had calmed. Matt pushed off you immediately, rolling to your side.
“Sorry, sweetheart,” he murmured. You shifted onto your side so you could face him and reached out to push some of the sweaty hairs off his forehead.
“It’s okay, Matty. I still love you,” you said with a grin. Matt grinned right back.
“I love hearing that from you,” he said sweetly.
“I love being able to say it,” you said. Matt leaned forward and kissed you chastely. He was smiling in your direction, clearly dazed by how much he was hopelessly in love with you when panic spread over his face.
“Shit!” He shouted and shot up from the bed, hands digging through his bedside table.
“What?” You questioned as you sat up from the mattress.
“I didn’t call Foggy!”

Office of Nelson & Murdock
10 AM
Matt’s office felt stuffy today, much like his mind. Only a few nights ago, you had shown Matt your heart on the rooftop, confessing your deeper feelings for him—well, Mike. Matt had been struggling with it ever since; the reality that you could have deeper feelings. Of course. This was bound to happen. But what scared Matt the most, and what seemed to be a trigger for him to stop getting closer to someone, was that he was certain he felt the same way toward you.
There was a reason why he never stopped visiting you, there was a reason why he continued to come to you with his mask. The reasons were quite simple: he loved the way you spoke, the way you commanded his attention with just a single touch, and how you were completely yourself with him when it was just the two of you on your roof. But something was slowly killing him inside: the very fact that he was still pretending around you—lying to you. What was he to do now? If he confessed his feelings to you on the roof tonight, you'd be sure to ask why you still didn’t know his true identity. What would he say? In the past, he’s told you it’s because of his enemies, but he hardly had any of them anymore, save for the average criminals in the city… it was a tired excuse, he knew that. He could reveal himself to you, but then there’s the question of how you’d react. Would you be mad? Or worse, would you leave?
Matt rubbed his temples and closed his eyes behind his dark red glasses. There was a lot going on at the office recently, but nothing the four of you couldn’t handle. The firm was going strong, and Matt hardly came home with a scratch anymore, but somehow things still felt like a clusterfuck by his doing.
He tried to focus on the case he had in front of him. Running his fingers over the braille, Matt began to concentrate, but his concentration was soon broken by the sound of your voice through his office walls.
“Thank you for calling Nelson and Murdock, how may I help you?” he heard you say into the phone. God, it was difficult to work knowing you were just a few feet away. He could almost feel your body pressed against his, sharing a kiss. Matt paused on the braille he was reading to control his own breathing. Each breath took the memory from his mind.
“You look like you need a drink,” Matt was so deep in his thoughts of you that he hadn’t heard Foggy walk into his office. Foggy chuckled as he walked over to Matt’s desk and closed his laptop for him. “What’s goin’ on, man?”
“Hmm?” Matt questioned with a hum. “Oh, nothing. Just a lot of work.”
“Didn’t really look like you were getting much done,” Foggy teased. “Seriously dude,” he continued in a lower voice, “is everything all right with… you know…”
“What?” Matt asked in a panic, thinking he meant you, somehow. When realization dawned on him, Matt apologized. “Oh. No, everything’s fine. Not much out there without Fisk,” Matt shifted in his seat uncomfortably.
“Well, I wasn’t kidding about the drink. Josie’s tonight? I’ll gather the troops. And by troops, I mean Karen, Marci, and __,” Foggy said. Matt inhaled as he leaned on his desk.
“Why not?” Matt shrugged, “I could use a drink.”
“Ha! Yes!” Foggy cheered, “T-minus two hours until closing time.”
Suddenly, Matt sensed another person enter his office. By the sweet smell of marshmallows and the delicate hold on the door, Matt knew it was you.
“Hey!” Foggy greeted you before you could speak. “Josie’s tonight?”
“I thought you’d never ask,” you said in a light voice. “It’s been a few weeks since we’ve gone, hasn’t it?”
“Exactly why I’m suggesting it,” Foggy got up from his seat. “__. Doesn’t Matt look like he needs a drink?”
You laughed; Matt detected a hint of nervousness in your voice. “I think he does,” you agreed. “I do too, honestly.”
“Well, that’s one out of three ladies joining us!”
“Three?” You questioned.
“Oh, I forgot. You haven’t met Marci yet!” Foggy exclaimed, “she’s my girlfriend. She’s also an attorney. You’ll love her.”
“I can’t wait to meet her then,” you told Foggy.
“Well, until we go, I’ve got to finish this brief for the hearing I’ve got on Monday. Adios!” Foggy saluted as he left Matt’s office. Matt noticed you were still in his office.
“__,” he said your name carefully, “was there something you needed?”
“Oh, yes,” you stuttered, “I was wondering if you wanted me to get a head start on the cases we got today, you know, translate hem to braille for you?”
Matt’s heart always felt overwhelmingly warm whenever you inquired about helping him with translating documents to braille. You really didn’t need to, he had his Orbit reader, but he appreciated the extra effort in wanting to help him. But just because you didn’t need to didn’t mean he didn’t want you to. And his next words may be selfish, but it didn't stop him from saying them.
“Actually, if you weren’t busy, would you mind reading to me what we got in?” Matt asked.
He couldn’t see it, but he knew you smiled, by the way your heart skipped a beat. It happened whenever he said something along the lines of keeping you safe, during your nightly rooftop sessions. It made him feel good he had that same effect on you at work, despite the circumstances. Except, it was more innocent here than it was there.
“Of course,” you replied.
Matt listened as you gathered your notebook, the one he gifted you, and a pen. You softly shut the door behind you, a gesture you didn’t know meant so much to Matt.
As you began to read off the list of cases you received today, Matt closed his eyes behind his dark red glasses, and let your voice make the two hours the both of you had left pass quickly.

You waited outside the building of the firm with Karen. She looked beautiful, in a black dress, and her blonde hair was pushed to one side. Her bright eyes beamed when she shared a smile with you.
“I’m sure tonight will be a late night,” Karen predicted, “if anything, we’ll call a taxi home for you again.”
“I appreciate that,” you smiled. “I’m looking forward to meeting Foggy’s girlfriend. I didn’t know he had one!”
Karen laughed, “When I first met her, I did not like her. And at the time, Foggy didn’t either. But over time, we found that she was good people. She’s one of my closest friends now,” Karen explained. “I’m sure she’ll tell you their full history tonight.”
“You guys all seem to have a lot of history,” you nodded. A fleeting thought crossed your mind—did Matt have a girlfriend? Not that it mattered, or you cared… you were just curious. “Does… Matt have a girlfriend?”
It was the way Karen laughed that made you think something happened between the two of them, but you didn’t ponder on it any longer. She shrugged.
“I don’t think he does. I’m not sure he ever really has,” Karen answered.
You hummed in response. Suddenly, Foggy and Matt came outside the door. Matt had his cane out in front of him, feeling for the bottom step.
“Onward and out!” Foggy shouted.
On the way to Josie’s, it started with the four of your walking in tandem, but after a little bit, Foggy and Karen walked ahead, deep in conversation about Foggy’s brother’s deli shop, leaving you and Matt walking behind. You casually offered Matt your elbow for him to hold onto as his cane guided him forward. He grinned and lightly held on.
“Are you originally from New York?” You asked him.
Matt raised his eyebrows like he was surprised you’d start a conversation.
“Born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen. You?”
“Brooklyn," you answered, “but I’ve always wanted to live in Manhattan.”
“Hmm,” Matt replied. “And you’ve only lived in the city as long as you’ve been at NYU?”
“Basically,” you nodded. “I love it here.”
“Can’t take New York out of the girl, I suppose?”
“Something like that,” you smiled. “I’m sure the same goes for you, since you were born here. Where did you grow up, go to school?”
Matt made a face like it wasn’t an easy question to answer.
“After my dad died, I grew up at St. Agnes Orphanage. I did all my schooling there as well.”
“Isn’t that… a Catholic Church? Yeah, I think I’ve passed by it before. Are you Catholic?” You asked. You couldn’t help but think of Mike.
“Yes,” Matt answered quietly. “I am. My grandmother is the reason for that.”
“Aren’t all grandmas?” You laughed a little.
“Right,” Matt smiled in return.
“Is it strange to still live in the city you grew up in? I mean Hell’s Kitchen. For me, I wanted to get the hell out of my town.”
Matt was quiet for a moment. When you looked at him, you could see just behind his glasses. His gaze fell somewhere in front of him. You were so close you could see his eyelashes behind his dark red glasses. You’d forgotten you asked a question when he suddenly spoke again.
“It’s strange,” Matt replied, “especially when you’ve seen this city at its best, and at its worst,” he finished. “Well, not see in my case, but you get what I mean,” Matt added with a sheepish smile.
“I get it,” you stated, “you must really care about it to still be here after all this time.”
“You could say that,” Matt said, “that’s why I wanted to practice law here.”
“I love that,” you found yourself saying, not thinking twice about your word choice. But Matt didn’t seem uncomfortable at all.
In the distance, you could see the red neon lights that read JOSIE’S in the dingy window. Part of you was excited, but the other part felt disappointed you and Matt wouldn’t have a one-on-one conversation for the rest of the night. You enjoyed speaking with him alone. You felt like you could ask him anything without hesitation, unlike if anyone else was around. It was hard to deny the bond you felt with Matt versus with the others.
“Looks like we’re here,” and you wished you didn’t sound as disappointed as you felt.
“Why don’t you save me a seat while I grab drinks with Foggy?” Matt offered. He started to undo his cane. You took it gladly.
“Okay,” you smiled as you walked away with Karen. Karen found a table that was closer to the bar, but away from the wall. There were five seats around it. You placed Matt’s cane in the seat next to yours. After taking your blazer off, you scrolled through your phone and responded to one of Emily’s texts.
EMILY: Wya? Free night tonight, or studying?
YOU: Actually, grabbing drinks with the bosses. Can’t hang.
EMILY: Wow. Really want that raise, huh?
With a laugh, you click your phone to lock it. In your purse, you feel the emergency phone Mike had given you. You thought it was a blessing you haven’t needed to use it yet. Mike. You hoped to see him tonight.
“Hello, hello!” A bubbly voice came from behind you. Karen raised her hand in a greeting motion and stood from her chair. Around the table came another blonde, this time bleached, with a bright white smile and sharp eyes.
“Marci! How are you?” Karen asked, giving her a hug. Marci squeezed her in return, and then her gaze fell on you. You suddenly felt conscious of everything on your body, from your top to your shoes. You fought an urge to fix your hair.
“And who might this young warrior be?” Marci asked with a warm smile.
“I’m __. The new legal assistant at the firm,” you introduced yourself and held out your hand. Marci shook it graciously and smiled.
“I've heard a lot about you from Foggy-bear,” Marci said, and you suppressed a giggle at the nickname. This woman was gorgeous. “If you’re as good as he says, let me know if you ever want to switch teams and work at HC&B,” she winked.
You cocked your head at the acronym. “Hogarth, Chao & Benowitz? You work there?” You asked incredulously. When you first applied for jobs, HC&B was at the top of your list. That was the law firm to work at.
“Uh oh,” came from Foggy who carried a tray of drinks. “Marci, you can’t recruit her. She’s ours! She can’t leave us! She’s too good!” Despite HC&B being a dream, you loved how much Foggy loved you at the firm. You wouldn’t leave them in the dust like that.
“You’re leaving us?” Matt smiled, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “We’d be lost without you.” He felt for his cane on the seat and placed it in his blazer pocket, which was now draped on the back of his seat.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you laughed, “I promise. But hey, it’s good to make connections.”
“Indeed it is,” Marci agreed. “Seriously babe, I’ll give you my card. It’s always good to have something lined up in the future.”
You all took a seat as Karen started passing the shots and drinks around. A martini with no olives was placed in front of you—exactly what you wanted, and you hadn’t even told anyone.
“I thought you’d want that again,” Matt leaned in to speak lowly. You looked at him and nodded.
“Yes, I did,” you smiled.
“You're a regular at Josie’s already,” he laughed.
“Happy to be a regular,” you said.
“Alright everyone, grab your shots,” Karen announced, “to another successful work week!”
You didn’t hesitate to take your shot, and you were surprised to taste whiskey instead of tequila. You swallowed it down, not smoothly. You coughed and grimaced at the shot glass.
“Whiskey?” You frowned, “what on God’s green earth made you guys choose whiskey?”
“Well, we did say tequila,” Foggy laughed. “Next round!”
Instead of joining in any pool games, the conversation stayed at the table, to your delight. Marci was talking about stories from college—she too went to Columbia—stories of meeting Foggy and partying, studying for school, landing her first big job at Landman & Zack.
“Landman & Zack?” You questioned. “I think I also applied to work there as well.”
“Well, it's a good thing you didn’t,” Marci raised her brows as she sipped her martini. “Unfortunately, the place is run by money-hungry, corrupt people.”
“Wow," you breathed out, “I’m lucky I ended up at Nelson & Murdock.”
“You sure are,” Marci smiled, “And I hear they’re lucky to have you as well.”
“Oh,” you blushed, “you guys are being way too nice to me!”
“It’s true,” Matt added, clinking his beer bottle to your empty martini glass. “We are lucky.”
“Let me get this next round,” you offered, “as a token of my gratitude.”
“Oh, just put it on Foggy’s tab,” Marci laughed, “but I’m ready for another round. Anyone else?”
Everyone nodded and you took it as your cue to make your way to the bar. It was about time you met Josie.
The bar was crowded, but nothing you weren’t used to. You understood bar etiquette quite well. There were two gruff-looking men in leather jackets, laughing on their stools. To the right of them were two women who matched their age in the same jackets. On the other side were more people in the same age group, laughing over pints of beer and stale french fries. In the middle were two men, around your age. You squeezed past one of them to make yourself known at the bar.
“Excuse me,” you said politely.
The young man who stood next to you moved so you could squeeze in more. “No worries,” he said. He flashed you a smile and in the dim lighting of the bar, you saw that he was quite attractive. Dark brown hair, big brown eyes. Charming smile, a boyish look. You grinned quickly and waited patiently until Josie came around to you.
“Hi Josie,” you greeted the sour-looking woman, “under Foggy’s tab, the same round of drinks please.” She nodded in understanding and said it would be five minutes. You tapped the sticky wooden bar with your fingers as you waited, pretending to be interested in the baseball game on the TV, ignoring the young man’s gaze in your direction.
“I’m Logan,” he said.
You looked at him and smiled. You told him your name.
“You’re here with that crew over there?” Logan asked, gesturing to your table with his beer bottle.
You nodded. “Yup. Out with the bosses. You?’
“With my buddy, Eric. You’re beautiful, by the way.”
You blushed, “thank you.” You were used to being hit on, but for some reason, with Mike in the back of your mind, you wanted to avoid conversations like this at all costs. Your heart was taken already. You didn’t have room for anyone else.
“Do you mind if I take your number? I’d love to take you out,” Logan asked in a genuine way. You smiled at him.
“I’m actually seeing someone already,” you explained, “but I’m flattered.”
“No worries,” he raised his hands in defeat, “I hope you have a good night.”
Josie came by again with the same drinks and shots as before. You grabbed the tray and gave her a smile before returning to your group. Marci and Karen had mischievous smiles on their faces. You set the tray down and rejoined them.
“What’s so funny?” You asked.

“What’s so funny?” You asked.
Matt’s hand was gripping his beer bottle so hard, he thought it might shatter. To hide his hard expression, he took a sip from his beer and swallowed hard.
“Was that guy hitting on you?!” Marci giggled. Karen sipped her beer as she too waited for an answer. The way you shifted in your seat told Matt everything he needed to know: you were uncomfortable with this attention.
“Was it that obvious?” You asked with a sigh. “He was nice, but I’m already seeing someone.”
“You are?” Karen asked. “You should invite him out to Josie’s!”
Now, it was Matt’s turn to shift uncomfortably in his seat. Still, he managed to keep a blank expression as he listened to what you were going to say.
“He’s uh,” you stuttered, “he works a night shift?” Your statement came out sounding more like a question. Matt rubbed his temples. He knew you were a terrible liar, but at least the rest of them didn’t seem phased.
“Really? What does he do?” Foggy asked.
“He… works the night shift at a hospital. He’s security there.” Your heart was hammering in your chest, hammering in Matt’s ears. He wanted to place his hand on yours to calm you down, but it took every bit of strength in him to fight the urge. This is my fault. I’m making you lie.
“Cool!” Karen exclaimed. “Well, next time he’s off, definitely have him come out. You know, he’s got to have our seal of approval.” Marci and Foggy agreed while Matt stayed silent. Despite the torture of listening to you lie against your will, Matt couldn’t help but feel… good that you were loyal to him—Mike.
But at the same time, it felt so wrong.
“I actually think I’m going to step outside for a second,” You said. “It’s a little hot.”
Marci, Karen, and Foggy thought nothing of your statement, but Matt knew better. He listened as you stood up and walked outside, not before asking Josie for a glass of water. After a few minutes, and a side comment he offered to Foggy to not raise suspicions, Matt too walked outside to join you. He tapped his cane in front of him rather hurriedly as he pushed the front door of Josie’s open, the bells ringing in his ears.
When he stepped outside, he paused to listen for you. By your heartbeat, he heard you standing against the brick wall of Josie’s, head against the wall, eyes closed. By the faint salt in the air, Matt confirmed you were crying.
“__?” He called your name softly, “Is that you?”
“Oh, hey Matt,” you covered your sadness as best you could. Matt felt his heart rip in half. He just realized he’s never heard you cry, not even as Mike. Karen was the one who witnessed you upset a few weeks ago after he yelled at you, and now he’s really glad it wasn’t him. Because he really can’t stand it. It hurts him as much as it hurts you.
“What’s wrong?” Matt tapped his cane until he was standing right beside you. There wasn’t any use in asking if you were okay. Matt knew you weren’t. And he knew it was because of him.
“I don’t know,” you sighed, “it's hard to explain.”
Matt took a deep breath. “Try me.”
“I can talk to you like you’re not my boss right now?” You asked.
Matt forced a smile. “You can talk to me however you’d like.”
“And you won’t repeat it?”
“You’re safe with me.”
“Have you ever just felt silly for covering for someone else, without knowing if they’d do the same for you?”
Matt took a step closer. He sighed deeply. What a heavy question to ask someone like him.
He needs to do a better job, as Mike, to make sure you never doubt his feelings for you again.
“Yes,” he said, “we’ve all been there.”
“Oh, great,” you answered sarcastically, “well if you’ve all been there, then I guess there’s nothing I can do to stop me from playing this role.”
“There’s no role you need to play,” Matt’s mouth tasted bitter as he spoke. “Whoever you’re with, I don’t think he’d want you to think he wouldn’t do the same.”
“How can I know? All I get are cryptic responses, and yet he keeps coming back to me, for whatever reason. I feel like a toy he gets to play with. He can drop me whenever he wants.”
Your words hammered down on Matt hard. This was how he made you feel? He wanted you to feel the opposite like you were the only girl for him. Because you were. He wanted you to feel safe when you thought of him, not feel this pain and doubt. Tonight, he knew he’d have to make you understand that you are more to him than just a secret meeting.
But he has to do it without revealing his identity.
“I don’t believe that’s true,” Matt spoke honestly. “You’re a smart girl. You’re kind. We all… we all l—really like you. Whoever this is would be an idiot to take you for granted. Maybe he has a good reason to be cryptic. You said he works the night shift, right? He must be tired all the time. Busy protecting people at that hospital. But he makes time for you at night. That’s got to mean something, __,” Matt tried to convince you as best he can. By the sound of your heart and the lack of salt in the air, it was a sure sign that maybe something he said might’ve affected you.
You were silent for a short while. Matt knew you were taking in the sight of him.
“Who’da thought I’d be getting relationship advice from my boss?” You laughed, a genuine one, to Matt’s relief.
“I do more than just the law,” Matt smiled.
“Thank you, Matt. I’m sorry you caught me at a moment of weakness.”
“Don’t be sorry. I’ve had my fair share, too.”
You headed back inside, followed by Matt, and rejoined everyone. Although the night carried on as it should’ve, your words stuck with Matt for the remainder of the night, until he met you on your roof to make things right.

11 PM
Reluctantly, you went on your roof. Reluctantly, you slipped into your silk night dress, the one he liked. Was this all with hesitation, or were you just a little buzzed from Josie’s?
Talking to Matt about Mike did help, but you needed something to hold onto. Something that made it make more sense than it did. You understood he couldn’t reveal himself, at least not yet, but you needed something to believe it. That it would be worth it in the end.
And like a shadow in the night, he appears just as fast as he disappears. Mike, in his black outfit and face covered, stumbles onto your roof. You push yourself off the wall and walk toward him, arms crossed.
“We need to talk—“
Your sentence is cut off with a hard kiss, and strong arms wrapping around your waist to lift you up. Naturally, you wrap your legs around Mike and hold onto him, lips locked on his. He holds you even tighter against his torso, his tongue teasing your bottom lip. When he pulls back, he gently tugs you with his teeth.
“We need to talk about us,” You say breathlessly.
“I know,” Mike says in a husky voice. “I need you to know something.” Mike gently lets you down, but he doesn’t let go of you. He runs his fingers down the length of your left arm and intertwines his hand with yours. He lifts it up and spreads your fingers out.
“When I wake up, I think of you,” Mike whispers, putting his index finger around your hand. “When I’m at my day job, I think of you,” he puts his middle finger down, “After a rough night out, all I do is think of you,” ring finger down. “When I go to sleep, I think of you,” pinky down, “but it’s before I sleep when I think of you, that drives me absolutely crazy,” thumb down, his hand is entirely wrapped around yours. He swiftly brings it behind your back. You want to roll your eyes, this is not what I mean, but his next words keep you from arguing.
“__,” he said your name in a hushed tone, “you’re in everything I do. Everything I say, everything I feel, it’s all you,” Mike’s lips find yours again, and his kiss puts you in a trance. The way his lips perfectly mold to yours, how his skin feels rough against yours, how he breathes you in whenever he kisses you. “If you need to hold onto something, hold onto this, my Angel,” Mike tilts your head so your neck is exposed. The tip of his nose traces the length of your neck. He kisses you down and then finds his lips on your jaw again, back to your lips. “When I think of you before I sleep, I think of things I want to do with you when you know who I am. I want to wake up next to you and fall asleep next to you. It’s—it’s when my mind goes dark that I can’t help but think of you,” Mike speaks lowly, in your ear. “When I think of you in danger, or sick, or in harm’s way, I—I get this overwhelming sense of dread. I’d die for you, __.”
Mike takes your hand and places it over his heart. You feel his heart beating fast under your fingertips.
“Mike,” you whisper, “I…”
“I have something for you,” he whispers. With his other hand, he reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a long black thread with a cross on it. “I can’t tell you who I am yet,” Mike begins, “I will one day. But until then, I want you to have this, so you know I keep my promise.”
He places the necklace around you and centers the cross so it falls right over your heart. You’re speechless, watching his movements.
“I give you my promise,” he whispers again. When you think he’s going to kiss your lips, instead, he kisses your forehead. “I don’t want you to doubt me.”
“I…I don’t doubt you. Not after this,” you smile, running your thumb through his necklace. “You have my word as well. I’ll wait for you if it means I get to be with you.”
Mike presses his lips to yours, both his hands holding your face, delicately.
“You’re my light,” Mike whispers. “I’m… sorry if I’ve ever made you feel otherwise.”
You turn your head and kiss the palm of his hand with your eyes closed. You needed to hear this from him so badly. You had something to hold on to.
It was faith.

Matt Murdock x Reader
Words: 3539
Summary: Matt and the reader tease each other relentlessly at work. What happens when they discover that it’s more than just harmless flirting? One night of one too many drinks may prove just that.
Notes: Some of my favorite Matt edits are to the song ‘Cruel Summer’ by Taylor Swift, and while I didn’t totally want to do another song based imagine for it (I have a different one for him in the works), I really love this cute little line for him. Plus I really need to write more fluff for him because everything is so angsty. This is, as so much of my fluff, a total mess, so I hope you guys enjoy.
More Matt imagines: HERE
-
“And that’s three for me and… oh yeah, none for you,” you smirked, leaning on your pool stick.
“Isn’t there some kind of rule about making fun of the blind guy?” Matt chuckled.
“Matty, we both know you could have kicked my ass hours ago.” You shook your head and stepped towards him. “Stop toying with me and play.”
Matt leaned towards you.
For a second, you were afraid he could hear your heart racing in your chest, the butterflies in your stomach resuming their painful, wild dance. You faked a cocky laugh, letting him know you weren’t backing down.
A grin formed on his lips. “Okay.”
The next break landed three stripes. His next series of shots landed two more. You were right about one thing- he was perfectly capable of kicking your ass. The end of the game yielded only one shot for you while he swept the table. Hell, looked so bad for you, that you were half tempted to cheat and point him at the wrong ball. Somehow you felt he would know.
Matt put up his pool stick and took yours with a smile. You tried to keep your jaw from dropping.
He chuckled. “You asked for it.”
You snapped out of your awestruck state and laughed. “Remind me to keep my mouth shut next time.”
He paused and his smile shifted into a smirk. “Next time?”
“Oh, that was just round one, Murdock. One of these days, I will beat you fair and square. Without you going easy on me.”
He held out a hand.
You took it.
“Challenge accepted.”
The touch sent a pleasant shock up your arm. His finger traced along the back of your hand as he pulled away, grazing your knuckles. Your breathing hitched and another smirk spread across his face.
Bastard.
“I’m going to get another drink,” he said. “Do you want anything else?”
You cleared your throat to stop from squeaking. “Surprise me.”
He nodded and headed back to the bar. You had to lean against the pool table to stop your knees from shaking. This was stupid. You saw Matt every day.
But the way he smiled at you…
“Here.” Matt handed you a tall glass of a dark liquid.
“What the hell is that?” You laughed through your grimace, holding the drink up to the light. It was clouded and hardly allowed any of the neon to shine through.
Matt shrugged. “A surprise.”
“You’re terrible.”
“Oh, but you love me,” he teased.
“Whatever.” You took a drink and immediately regretted it. The burning liquid traveled down your throat like black tar and despite how hard you tried, you couldn’t hold back the coughs.
Matt laughed and sipped his perfectly normal beer.
“Shut… up…” you sputtered.
He kept laughing. It sent a surge of idiotic courage through your chest.
You tapped the bottom of the glass against the pool table, took a deep breath, and gulped down the rest of the foul drink without breaking. You swallowed back the disgusted coughs and touched the empty glass to his chest.
“Is that-” You winced at the taste still lingering in your mouth. “The best you’ve got, Murdock?”
Matt chuckled and shook his head, setting the glass aside. You take a step forward on wobbly legs and stumble. His arms shot out to catch you and held you up against his chest.
You both froze, dizzy from more than just the alcohol.
“Maybe that’s enough for tonight,” he breathed.
Having you this close, he didn’t need his hearing to know your heart started to race. And he knew, with your hands pressed against his chest, you could feel his too.
“That’s probably a good idea,” you agreed, finding your footing again.
The break of contact left a hollowness in his chest. His hand found your arm, both to steady you and to fill the space the lack of your touch had created.
You closed your tabs and he insisted on paying, despite your protests.
“After that toxic waste you downed, it's the least I can do,” he said.
“Celebrating anything specific?” Josie wondered. Her eyes shifted curiously between the two of you and she gave you a smirk.
Your face reddened.
“We won a pretty major case today,” Matt explained with a smile. “The big bad land developers were defeated all thanks to Y/N’s investigating skills.”
“Are you kidding?” You scoffed. “You and Foggy did all of the real work in that courtroom.”
“Work we couldn’t have done without you.” He squeezed your hand. “Give yourself some credit. Without you, we’re just a couple of guys in suits and no case.”
“Hey, don’t sell Foggy short,” you snorted. “He does all the real lawyering while you  stand there and look pretty.”
A sly smirk spread across Matt’s face. “Pretty, huh?”
“Goodnight, Josie,” you said, trying to hurry away, but Matt’s hold on your arm remained. Standing this close, his laugh vibrated through you.
You walked out together into the chilly February evening. The brisk air bit at your bare arms, having forgotten your jacket in the office. You tried not to shiver.
“Here,” Matt said. He slipped off his suit jacket and wrapped it around your shoulders.
“Thanks.”
You tried not to think about how the fabric smelled like him- like cedarwood and leather.
Matt kept his hold on your arm, less to guide himself and more to keep you from tripping on something. The heat of his fingers on your skin radiated throughout your body. You tried to keep your breathing normal, but it was like the air was getting thin. That last drink really was a bad idea.
By the time you reached the door of your apartment, you were sure your flesh was burning up. You desperately dug through your purse, feeling the dread build up more and more as you searched.
“Shit,” you muttered.
“Everything okay?” Matt asked, brows furrowed in a way that was far too adorable for you to handle at the moment.
“I, um,” you gulped. “I can’t find my keys. I must have left them at the office. Damnit.” You smacked your hand against the door, hitting it a little harder than you meant to and wincing.
Matt took your hand in both of his, holding you steady. “Hey, it’s okay.”
“No it isn’t. You walked me all the way here and now I can’t get in and it’s too late to try to call me landlord and-” Your intoxicated brain spiraled into all of the things you’d done wrong that evening that led you to this moment.
Getting drunk with the man you were in love with being numero uno.
You started to hyperventilate.
Matt put your hand against his chest so you could feel the slow and steady rhythm of his heart as he breathed. He took a deep breath, indicating for you to do the same.
“Sweetheart, it’s okay, just calm down,” he said softly. “Can you do that?”
You closed your eyes, took a few breaths, and nodded.
“Sorry,” you said, sheepishly dodging his gaze. “Sometimes drunk-brain turns into anxiety-panic-brain and I have moments like that.”
“You don’t have to apologize,” he smiled. Matt let go of your hand but kept hold of your arm. “Why don’t we just go to my place? It’s just a few blocks away. We can pick up your keys tomorrow.”
Your heart leaped into your throat.
“Like… spend the night?”
Matt gave you that famous smile. “I’m flattered, Y/N, but I’m afraid you would be taking advantage of me,” he teased.
You shoved him playfully. “Shut up.”
-
It wasn’t like you hadn’t been to Matt’s apartment before, but this felt different. Maybe it was that horrible, horrible drink still making your brain a little fuzzy, but the neon lights of the billboard outside lit everything in a beautiful, color-changing glow.
The two of you sat on Matt’s couch and talked for what felt like hours. About nothing, about everything, about you, about him.
“So I go every year now to commemorate the occasion,” you said confidently
“You have an anniversary for falling off of a swan boat in Central Park?” He snickered.
“It was a formative moment in my childhood!”
Matt held up his hands. “Okay, fair enough.”
“When’s the last time you just took a walk?” You asked, leaning a little closer. “You know, stopped and smelled the roses? In all the time I’ve known you, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you slow down.”
Matt swallowed and didn’t answer. You had a point.
“You have to let yourself live, Matt. You can’t go around trying to save everyone.” You leaned closer, eyes falling to his lips.
Matt drew in, unable to stop himself. How long had he thought about this? How long had he thought about telling you? When he thought about slowing down, he wanted to do it with you. You made him want to want to have a life.
He pulled away.
“I think you should probably get some sleep.”
You jerked back.
“Right,” you said. “Thanks.”
What the hell had you been thinking?
“I’ll sleep out here,” Matt said. He stood up and went to a cupboard in the hall.
“Matt, you are not giving up your bed because I forgot my keys.”
“Too late, I already grabbed clean sheets.”
“Matthew-”
“Y/N, really, it’s fine.” He said and from his tone, you knew there was no winning. Besides, you were embarrassed enough. Did you really just try to kiss him? You didn’t even feel drunk anymore, which you didn’t know if that made it better or worse.
You hurried into Matt’s room and tried not to think about the fact that you were sleeping in his bed, under his covers, blanketing you in his scent.
This whole night was starting to feel like a mistake.
Matt listened to your heartbeat and felt the heat rushing to your face, kicking himself for making you feel like you’d done something wrong. He’d have to talk to you in the morning, when you were both sober, so you could have no doubt that what he wanted to say was true.
You both went to sleep with butterflies in your stomach and thoughts of each other in your dreams.
-
You woke up to a killer headache and the smell of coffee. You felt the sheets around you. Silk. Definitely not yours.
The memory of the night before started to come back to you.
Oh. God.
You were at Matt’s apartment.
You slept in his bed.
You tried to kiss him.
And he was outside the sliding door, right now.
The floor was cool against your bare feet, your legs shaking as you tried to walk silently to the door. You slid it open just a crack. Just to see where he was.
Matt was walking around the kitchen, most of his frame hidden by the open fridge door.
You stepped out of his bedroom. If you could just sneak to the door…
“Morning,” he greeted cheerily, closing the fridge door and giving you a bright smile. “I made you some coffee.” Matt held up a steaming mug with a slight chuckle. “I thought you might need it.”
You winced. “Right. Thanks.”
Matt could feel your skin getting warmer, as well as the churning of nausea going through your head.
“How are you feeling?”
“Super.”
Matt grimaced. “Yeah, I felt the same when I woke up. Hence, coffee.” He took a drink from his own mug.
There was a long, unbroken, and horrifically awkward silence between you. Why couldn’t you have one of those hangovers that obliterate any memory from the night before? Why couldn’t you get the image of him pulling away from you out of your head? Why did you have to try to kiss him? Why did you have to ruin everything?
“I should go.”
Matt blew out a low sigh. “I’ll walk you home.” He moved to stand, but you put a hand on his arm to stop him.
“I think I should go by myself,” you said quickly. If you stayed any longer, you would start to cry and you couldn’t do that in front of him.
“Y/N-” Matt started.
“Thank you for letting me stay, but I have some stuff I want to get done before we have to get to the office.”
Matt heard your heart racing. He could hear the edge in your voice.
He’d hurt you and he hated himself for it. He wanted the chance to fix things, but at the moment, he knew that anything he said would just make it worse.
“I’ll see you there, then,” he said quietly.
“Yeah, uhuh, right. Bye, Matt.” You scurried out of the door, forgetting your jacket and your purse but being far too embarrassed to go back in for them. As long as you had your keys, you would be fine. A fresh change of clothes and a cold shower. That’s what you needed.
Once you forced yourself to get ready for work, you actually had to go to work. Which meant facing Karen- who knew all too well your crush on your boss. And worse, it meant facing Matt again. Maybe you could get away with avoiding him.
You could not.
When you got to the office, Matt was there, perched on the edge of your desk with your bag and jacket in hand.
“You, uh, forgot these,” he said, giving you an awkward half-smile.
Karen sat at her adjacent desk and raised a brow.
You took your things and put them on the desk, feeling that all too familiar rush of blush to your face. Thank god he couldn’t see it.
Matt nodded and walked to his office, letting his hand graze your shoulder as he went, hoping it would be a comfort, but when he heard your heartbeat rise, he realized it was probably a mistake.
How could he show you that what happened last night, the reason he pulled away, was not what you were thinking?
The day passed agonizingly slowly, but at least Foggy and Matt kept busy enough that you were able to avoid him for the most part. You couldn’t bear the pitying half-smile he gave you so you made sure to stay with Karen, looking over cases and organizing facts about clients.
Matt was going mad, flipping through papers and listening to Foggy read off statements. All he could think about was the hurt in your voice and how he was the reason for it.
“Uh, earth to Matt,” Foggy said, snapping his fingers. “You there buddy?”
Matt swallowed and nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, sorry. What were you saying?”
Foggy leaned over the desk with a slow, teasing smirk. “I think I know what’s going on.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You finally made a move on Y/N. Didn’t you?”
Now it was Matt’s turn to blush. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh come on, Matt,” Foggy exclaimed. “I saw it from the minute she wandered through our doors. You like her.” He poked Matt’s shoulder, prompting him to shrug away and stand. This, of course, was all the answer Foggy needed. “Oh my God you do like her!”
“Foggy-”
“So what happened? Did you guys go on a date?” Foggy raised a brow. “Did you do more than go on a date?”
Matt went silent.
Foggy’s jaw dropped. “Oh, did she reject you?”
Matt ran a hand down his face. “That’s not what happened.”
“Don’t tell me that you rejected her.”
“That’s not what…” Matt grimaced. “It wasn’t like that.” Because of course, he liked you and of course, under different circumstances, he would have liked to do a lot more than kiss you, but he couldn’t unless he knew that it was really what you wanted and not what the liquor was telling you to want.
“Well, whatever it was like, you better fix it,” Foggy said, walking to the door. “Because you do not want to let that one get away, my friend.”
The rest of the day passed painfully. You were avoiding him and he was trying to figure out how to make you stop avoiding him. It didn’t help that Foggy kept giving both of you painfully obvious hints, worst of all being when he asked Karen to help him run an errand, clearing his throat loudly as he passed Matt’s door.
You kept your head down, looking over client files and incident reports. Anything to take your mind off of the way his arm felt around your waist. His breath on your cheek. You came across a file that had a recorded statement. Shit. it must have gotten put with your things by mistake.
You swallowed, stood, and made your way to Matt’s office.
“I think this is probably for you,” you said softly, standing in his doorway. “I don’t usually listen to the statements.” You swallowed again, your throat feeling dry. “I just look into who you tell me to.”
“You do more than that,” Matt said, shaking his head. Why did you always downplay your importance? Could you see how much you meant to this place? To him? “Y/N, stay for a second. Shut the door please.” He took off his glasses.
You froze under his unfocused gaze, feeling him watch you in his own way.
“Is something wrong?” You gulped.
Matt gave you a small smile. “You’re the one who has been avoiding me all day.” He motioned for you to sit beside him on the edge of his desk. “I think we should probably talk about last night.”
“W-what… I don’t…” You stammered, staying where you were. “I didn’t think there was anything to talk about.”
Matt raised a brow, motioning again to the spot beside him.
You hung your head and shuffled to stand beside him.
“Now,” he said softly, “will you please talk to me? It’s been driving me insane all day not being around you.”
“What do you want me to say, Matt?” You sighed. Emotion crept its way into your tone. Embarrassment. Heartbreak. “Things took a turn. We stopped. We went to bed. What else is there?”
“What else is there?” Matt huffed, turning to fully face you. His hand reached for your arm. “Y/N, I did what I did because you were drunk. I didn’t think-”
“It’s okay, Matt.” You didn’t look at his face., at his dark eyes that managed to see you better than anyone ever had. “You don’t have to explain. You were just being kind. You let me stay because I was too drunk to open my own damn door. And I appreciate that, but please,” you grimaced at the memory of him pulling away from you. You shrugged away his hand. “Please just drop it.”
You moved to leave.
Matt stood in your way.
“I won’t just drop it,” he said, desperation in his tone. “Don’t you get that I can’t?” He grabbed you by the shoulders, not letting you go this time. “Y/N, I can’t stop thinking about last night. I can’t stop thinking about you.”
You blinked. “W-What?”
This wasn’t real. This was another trick of your mind. Surely you weren’t still drunk.
“I have wanted a night like last night since you first walked through those doors,” he admitted, listening to your heart as it started to race. He gave you a small smile, hoping to calm you down. To convince you that what he was saying was the truth. “But I had to make sure that it’s what you really wanted. Not because of some awful drink I dared you to drink or because you felt like you owed me.”
“Matt…” You trailed off. Couldn’t he tell? Couldn’t he sense that you’d wanted the same thing ever since you first saw him?
“I just,” he sighed, “I need you to know that.”
You didn’t know what to say. Any words that formed on your tongue died before they could make it out of your lips.
Matt heard your heart pounding. He heard your fingers tugging on the bottom of your shirt- a nervous tick he’d noticed your first day. He let his head fall. He’d made things worse.
“I’ll see you in the morning,” he said softly, grabbing his cane and heading for the door.
You didn’t think. Thinking had so far gotten you nowhere. Instead, you grabbed his arm, pulled him back around, and crashed your lips into his.
Matt stumbled back in surprise but only for a moment. His hands found your face, cupping your cheeks gently as he pulled you closer, deepening the kiss.
Both of you stepped, him forward and you back, his body pinning you against his desk, his arms moving around to hold you up against him. Your hands traveled up his chest and into his hair.
This was happening.
You pulled away, resting your forehead against his.
“This is happening,” you gasped, unable to stop yourself.
Matt just grinned. He gave you that ridiculous, intoxicating, devilish grin. And it melted you.
“Do you want it to keep happening?” He asked cheekily.
You didn’t answer and pulled him back to you.
