How would the RO's react to an MC who usually puts minimal effort into their appearance pulling out all the stops and showing up absolutely gorgeous for some formal event that they were required to go to?
I think it'd kind of depend on where they were in the relationship.
For R, if they weren't together yet, I can see this being the sort of thing that changes how they see the MC and then creates a snowball effect. Not that they wouldn't get there otherwise, it's just the sort of thing that would cause an abrupt shift in perspective.
Z isn't very focused on appearances, but if they already sort of had a crush that they were trying to fight off, this would make it harder. They might even be a little jealous, depending on whether they thought MC was dressing up 'for' someone in particular.
Kestrel starts off as seeing the MC more as an interesting doodad rather than a person, which evolves into them finding MC fascinating as a person too. Any kind of "Oh no they're hot" realization intersecting with "I like this person as a person" is def going to complicate matters.

🗡️ “That time of the month again?”
because we all know that periods suck and characters are not immune to the horrors 🗡️ prompt list of comforting actions
Character A is bedridden from the cramps and Character B becomes their living heating pad (cuddles with arms wrapped around the waist >>>>)
B buys A their favorite chocolates a couple days before their period starts and keeps beverages with electrolytes on hand
A takes a day off to rest, bingewatch some episodes of a good show, and care for themselves (maybe do some yoga, and by yoga I mean curl up in the fetal position for a couple hours)
B thinks that making a nice bath for A will help and prepares everything for when A gets home (A laughs and explains why that’s not a great idea)
Searching for Shark Week’s episodes online to deal with shark week in person, but getting distracted by cute animal shows
B can’t be there for A in person so they send A $30 to cover extra snacks and/or medicine
Instead of getting emotional over posts online, A digs out an old book series and gets emotional over that (they are reliving their childhood, they swear it’s cathartic THEY SWEAR)
A can’t sleep with the back pain so B gives them a light back massage with several check-ins to make sure the noises are in relief and not pain
B keeps the lights dim and and TV volume low as A battles a headache
All meals are made with ahead of time and cravings humored (“You can’t just eat straight salt.” “I know that, which is why I’m putting all of it on this.”)
A asks for B to get more pads/tampons at the store, B calls and sends many pictures as they try to figure out what will work best for A
B quietly scrubs out any bloodstains from A’s clothes as they do laundry (and they’re really efficient at it, why are they so good at getting blood out of clothing—)
A snuggling up with their pet who knows the exact spot to be in for maximum comfy (B thinks it’s adorable and takes a picture to show A later)
“I’m sorry if I’m not really conversational right now…” “Dude you’re on your period and barely slept last night, you’re good. We don’t have to talk, we can just chill.”
B brings home a machine for homemade ice-cream and all the ingredients needed for A’s favorite flavor (they spend the evening making it and declare a “dessert before dinner” day for when periods strike)

Cuddling scenarios
[Not strictly romantic!]
- Helping the other character get comfortable/safe enough to fall asleep by cuddling up with them in a way they enjoy. Holding them (or perhaps letting them hold you) until you feel them drift off finally.
- Silly casual cuddling. Where they're draped over each other kinda whatever, like cats, and maybe one or both are simultaneously doing something else but they're just. Casually snuggled together while at it
- Solitary character cuddling objects like plushies or blankets or pillows bc they can't stand to touch or be touched by other people (due to sensory problems or simple boundaries)
- characters who usually wouldn't act close with each other (maybe they don't get along or just don't know each other that well yet), ending up cuddling together. Maybe it has a reason, such as the other feeling a sense of duty to comfort or protect the other, maybe they just had a heart to heart, maybe they both just happened to need it. Or maybe it just happened somehow. They don't know either. But they're cuddling now.
- Asking permission to skootch a little closer. Can I just. Yep, no, hold on. There. Just gonna.. Yeah. There we go. Sorry. You good? Is it fine if I? Yeah? Okay. Thanks. Carry on.
- Not asking permission to get closer. Silently sitting on their lap like it's none of your business. Cramming under the same blanket. Taking the same seat. Putting my head over your shoulder. Snatching them up for a hug while we're just chilling bc I need to do something with my hands. Playing with their hair while we sit, for the same reason. I'm gonna braid your hair now. I'm gonna play with your ear/hand/leg. Taking up space with the other character, like it's not even an option not to.
- The "Submissive like a guard dog is" dynamic. With cuddling. I sit on the floor next to you while you're at the table, and lay my head on your leg. I will not accept any other seating option. I will always find a way to look up to you when we hang out. Use me as an armrest. Use me as a legrest. I will accept any position that puts you as the comfortable one. No, my back doesn't hurt from this. No, I'm not cramping, go ahead. You ask me to change position bc you prefer it and I oblige wordlessly. I will find a way to place myself between you and other people physically. My body is your shield when we sleep.

These concepts also apply to regular male romantic leads
I watched ContraPoint’s video essay on Twilight and she brings up some really great points on female power fantasy via male leads.
Inspired by this, here are some character questions I often ask myself when building personalities and plot tension.
…
People typically become the person they needed when they were a child. What kind of person is your character?
eg. A character from a dysfunctional family has rigid boundaries and a peaceful household.
When following the male POV, what power fantasies does it provide the reader?
eg. Strength, sadism, social power, etc
Outside of romantic tension, what personality traits would create friction between the MMC and FMC?
eg. Rigid boundaries and well-protected peace creates a highly structured life. This might seem constricting and unfair to a love interest.

I always enjoy these little ask games to help build up lore about my characters, but so many of them are too human in scope for my Gem OCs- thus, I decided to throw together a set of Steven Universe specific questions for all of your OC and gemsona desires.
Questions are sorted into "eras" thematically. Enjoy!
Era 1:

R: Will try gamely to catch MC and probably end up on the ground for their efforts. Where they are in their relationship will just determine how annoyed they are.
Z: Could catch MC. Probably won't if they're just friends. Probably will if they're dating.
Kestrel: Would humor an MC they were just friends with and think they're being endearingly obnoxious. Would take full advantage of catching an MC they're dating and probably not put them down again

Random Character Quirks my 3am brain thought of
Will make small origami hearts out of stray tissue or paper when bored
Changes the wallpaper of their phone every week
Puts a second hair tie over the one they tied in their hair "in case they need it" and refuses to wear extra ones on their wrist
You've heard of wearing odd/mismatched socks, let me introduce you to: wearing odd/mismatched shoelaces
Every gift they give to others is hand-made by them with a heartfelt letter
Collects boardgames
Collects mugs with funny phrases on them
Can't sleep with the window open
Always wears a head accessory
Only dresses in a specific style/vibe no matter the occasion
Never grew up with toys and now adores tiny dolls/trinkets like Shopkins (not me exposing myself)
Always moving legs/feet when sitting (bouncing leg up and down, swinging legs, shuffling feet, etc.)
Has keychains and pins everywhere
Literally has UNO reverse cards hidden all over their body. In their pockets, up their sleeve, tucked in the cuff of their jeans, everywhere
+ Bonus points if the ppl they're close to is familiar with that so they too have UNO reverse cards on them, but in the end man somehow has 10 more than them.
