So I created a new Tumblr account and here's what I saw. Just like Twitter before I left it to come here, the "For you" tab is now the default. If you click the home icon, that's what it goes to, even if you switch to the "Following" tab first. It will always default to "For you".
For comparison, I included a second screenshot of what my dash controls look like when I'm logged in as @striderstable. The "Following" tab is the default, and "For you" is just there for you to switch to if you so choose.
So what is "For you"? Well, you can bet that it ISN'T "For you." Even if it seems so now, it is definitely not "For you". It's for THEM. For their advertisers and promoted sites and so on. And you can also bet that if they're doing this with new users now, it's only a matter of time before they implement it across the board.
It also confirms some users suspicions that getting rid of avatars was in order to sneak paid-for content onto your dash without you noticing. Sure, longtime users won't be fooled by this, but unfortunately they're not the target audience anymore.
The perpetrators of this great villainy still think they can grab a sizeable share of users from the site formerly known as Twitter, and perhaps they're right.
Regardless, this heralds the end of those halcyon days when small sites could hope to have a chance to be seen on this platform.

Tumblr just changed the "snooze Live for seven days" switch into a "snooze Live on your dashboard for 30 days" switch.
Meaning that, while your dash will be free from Live for a longer period of time, at least, the sidebar tab for Live is now permanently stuck there and can no longer be turned off.
My guess is either they're trying to increase the number of people "using" Live via accidental clicks, or they think that forcing it on us more will make us want to use it for some reason.

How to Give Tumblr Feedback on Recent Changes (mobile edition)

Step 1. Go to your settings - these can be accessed from your account tab [top right of screen on mobile, not pictured] and then selecting the cog [also top right of screen on mobile, not pictured]
Step 2. Go to the General settings tab and scroll down - select the Help tab at the bottom of the page.
Step 3. Scroll past all of the colorful buttons and options of the new Help page and select the Contact Support button.
Step 4. This page is often used to report bugs or other problems, but it also has a category for Feedback! Select that category.
Step 5. Give your feedback on recent changes (mobile or desktop or both) in detail. Be polite - the person who reads this report isn’t the one responsible for these changes - but be honest.
Step 6. Recommend others give Feedback if they have some to give! Tumblr Corporate isn’t looking at ‘have you ever even opened TumblrLive?’ or ‘reblog if you hate the new Account tab’ posts. They will look at user complaints, at least numerically, and that might be enough to roll back some of these changes that are making Tumblr…not-Tumblr.

Dear @staff
Respectfully, we're done. We have had enough. We are very disappointed in you.
How, how, how could you forget that we, the users of tumblr, are the customers you're serving? That this means, when we have a complaint, you as the providers of the service are supposed to listen to us? We don't want to leave tumblr. But you flew too close to the sun and in your hubris you have made some mistakes egregious enough they are putting users off the site.
We are not your besties. We did not consent to you pranking us with quirky, useless new jokes you think are funny but that we did not request, we had no choice in, and are even triggering to some of us (the 'click for frogs' feature and the new Y2K campaign). And when we say we want to be able to hide something instead of just snooze it, we mean it.
No means no.
We want:
To be able to hide tumblr live for as long as we like instead of snooze it temporarily. There is a difference between the two.
For you to remove your Y2K campaign
For you to remove the "click for frogs" feature
For you to give us our Pride Month tab back.
Clearly, raising these issues indirectly has not been enough. You listened to us about the switch of the position of the store button on mobile. So we're bringing these issues directly to your doorstep and begging you to listen to us again.
No modification without representation.

i'm a proud member of tumblr's volunteer militia. we keep the site cringe to fend off the annoying expats from even worse sites. whenever there's rumors about people from twitter/tiktok flocking to tumblr it's my duty to post hetalia on main. i don't even get a veteran's discount on ad-free for my brave service but i do have ptsd from it
