Tui: "So, here's a character who was exiled from the RainWing village. Why? Well, he has a physical deformity in his snout that prevents him for sleeping for too long. Yeah, this interferes with him getting his needed amount of sunlight to change his scale colour. This makes it so that everyone hates him. Mh-hm, yeah, that's why they exiled him. They thought he was a freak and a horrible monster because they couldn't understand him. Yeah, he couldn't show emotions like the rest of them, so they kicked him out. Forever."
Also Tui: "Anyways yeah he was an asshole and deserved it. Yeah. He deserved it. Why? Because he's mean and grumpy."
Making up for the assault on the eyes that my only other posted artwork of these two was, featuring both of their snout nuances and a background (ish). Considering that they've never even met in canon, I feel the need to explain myself for why I really like this pairing.
It's a redemption arc in a can, basically. Chameleon can learn how to have a meaningful relationship after losing his shapes and not having any ulterior motives anymore. Mastermind can learn how to not be racist or whatever, helped by the fact that he seems to be somewhat aware of the borderline brainwashing that happened on the NightWing island and has been sitting alone in a sandpit for like a year or more now. They could feasibly meet without too much of a stretch-- build a prison in the rainforest, toss them in the same cell or within talking distance and there you have it.
Also they're nice together and they bring out the best in eachother and all that. Also they deserve to have nice things happen to them, considering how everybody hates Chameleon and Mastermind literally has no friends or family because Farsight was killed off for literally no reason and Starflight wants nothing to do with him.
Vulture had a way of speaking, as if his words wormed their way into his ears to pull at his thoughts. "You know what you remind me of?" Vulture said, "Babirusas, that'll be your name from now on. Babirusa. It got a nice ring to it, don't it?" Chameleon, now Babirusa, had not the slighest clue what that was, nor if it was a good thing. "I forgive you for lying to me, that only means you're now in debt. Work to pay that off and its all smooth from there, sweat down a camels back." Babirusa wrinkled his snout, he was already exhausted of these Sandwing riddles and phrases. But he couldn't leave, no, not for a while. His actions bound him to the sand, and he was due to pay it forth.
