It was the twin’s 14th birthday and the rest of the Armstrong family tried to have lively spirits for the occasion. Most of them have lost hope that Elisabeth would ever return. Almost four months have passed since then.

EMMA RUTH RUNDLE RELEASES STUNNING NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “YOU DON’T HAVE TO CRY”
The closing track from On Dark Horses receives a video treatment from Thou’s Mitch Wells and stars the song’s inspiration, Blake Armstrong.
Tumblr media
Closing out a long year spent on the road, singer/songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle has revealed a final music video to accompany her 2018 album On Dark Horses. Directed by Mitch Wells (Thou) and starring the song’s muse and inspiration, Blake Armstrong, the video is poignant and affecting and further solidifies Rundle’s place as one of music’s most dextrous minds.
Watch + share the music video for “You Don’t Have To Cry” here.
Lyrical inspiration came from real-life events and earnest conversations with a close friend. Detailing a journey of self-acceptance and inner-peace, “You Don’t Have To Cry” feels anthemic and delivers a powerful, universal message. Rundle comments:
“I wrote this song for my dear friend, artist Blake Armstrong, out of love and in the hope it would console and encourage strength after he expressed to me his fears about living as an openly gay male in a country that’s led by an unabashedly hateful figure - and the effects said figure might have on the the country, its laws and its citizens. I hope that the message of the song and video can comfort and empower those who feels marginalized or mistreated or unsafe. I’m happy we finally had a chance to realize our idea for this video. It means so much to us both.”
Blake Armstrong continues: “The main feeling I’ve felt has been the level of uncertainty that has made its ugly head known as of recent. Fear is how I feel. Growing up in Texas, I was used to closing myself off or being aware of how I expressed myself for fear of violence. Leaving the south and moving to other parts of the country and even to Canada, I finally felt safe to share myself and personality because I was around like-minded individuals. It felt free. But as of late in this country, that fear has returned wearing a red hat that has made me want to quiet myself and the freedom of who I am. What’s worse is not only feeling this not just personally but also nationally. I feel hated. I think with ‘You Don’t Have To Cry’ and this video, it’s a reassurance to be who you are now more than ever. That there are people who will embrace you but that regardless, nothing is more important than embracing yourself. You were always meant to be the person you are and that there isn’t any amount of hate or bigotry holding you back from living your truest life.”
Delving into Armstrong’s struggles one lyric and frame at a time, this music video exemplifies emotional literacy and musical prowess in equal measure. The "You Don't Have To Cry" video arrives just as the world needs it most.
Emma Ruth Rundle has spent the last year rehearsing and touring behind On Dark Horses. Alongside her relentlessly busy schedule, Rundle was recently revealed as the first-ever female curator of next year's Roadburn Festival; the festival comments "her expansive creativity and curious explorations have already led her towards collaborations – both live and on record. Her musical taste is broad and in keeping with Roadburn’s desire to explore the many facets of heavy music.”
Emma Ruth Rundle is on tour now in Europe, and will be capping off the year with a performance at Levitation Festival in Austin, TX on November 8. It will be her final full-band show of 2019 and in support of On Dark Horses.

“Oh look it’s Lucas and isn’t that your brother, Julian?” Juliet asked in annoyance.
“If we pretend that they don’t-”
Lucas’s loud voice interrupted Lydia, ”Ruth! Long time no see.”
Ruth shifted uncomfortably remembering the last time they saw each other. She was a crying baby and he always liked to tease her. It wasn’t something to be embarrassed about considering she was 3 years old.
“Hello,” Ruth said politely.
Juliet noticed the uncomfortable look on her older sister, “What do you want Munch?”
She hardly acknowledged his companion considering he was staring at the ground every time he looked over at Ruth. Ew could Luisa’s brother...?
“Your ma asked us to keep an eye on you girls. My name is Julian, don’t know if Lydia has mentioned it,” Julian finally spoke up.
“We’re doing just fine,” Juliet said with a huff.
“We were about to start our homework. If you’re interested in joining us,” Ruth said with a kind smile.
She knew Lucas was failing terribly and could get all the help he could get. Her smile faltered when she realized she was only smiling at Lucas and she quickly gave Julian a small smile as well.
“Ruth!” Juliet protested but her older sister gave her a stern look. She rolled her eyes and mumbled a fine.
“You better be on your best behavior Julian or I’ll tell ma,” Lydia warned him.
Both boys smiled and agreed. They would be foolish not to accept.

Lucas was awestruck when he saw Ruth. They hadn’t been in contact from some time now and they’ve matured since then. He wasn’t the only one that took notice of this. Julian wasn’t hiding his attraction towards her.
“Ruth” both boys said at the same time.
Ruth smiled politely at both boys and greeted them, “I’m surprised to see you at the market Lucas.”
Ruth and Julian chuckled together and Lucas felt out of place. Have they formed a friendship without him knowing. Julian had taken charge of the conversation and Lucas had stepped aside by then.

Julian was sure he was going to die of a heart attack before he could even get a word out. He waited for the appropriate time to confess his feelings for Ruth. Consuelo didn’t mind that they were going on a walk alone. Honestly she adored Julian and she couldn’t ask for a better future son-in-law.
“I’m sure this doesn’t come as a surprise to you,” Julian finally spoke.
Ruth smiled, “Not necessarily. Would it be too forward to say I was hoping to speak to you again?”
He blushed and couldn’t find any words in him.
Ruth took in his expression and laughed awkwardly, “I suppose it is. Please forget I even said anything.”
“Actually I’m more than happy to hear that. If I had known,” he trailed off and stopped by the lake, “I would’ve come to you sooner.”
He took a deep breath and she waited patiently but she was more than nervous about answering him too quickly. “I have grown quite fond of you during our brief encounters. If I may ask do you feel the same way as I do?”
Ruth’s heart fluttered and she smiled widely at him, “I have the same affection towards you and if marriage is on your mind you will have to speak to father.”
“Would you have someone like me as your husband?” he asked. If she were to say yes he’d wait for Mr. Armstrong right there very moment.
“Someone dependable? Kind, sweet and understanding? I would be foolish not to,” she said with a certainty.
He held her gentle hands, “For a lady like yourself only the most perfect of diamond should be placed on your hand my dear.” How could he be so lucky to be able to hold them for a lifetime?
She scoffed, “I wouldn’t care if the ring you present to me was made of twine. It’s the thought that matters.”
“I’ll speak to your father once I have a suitable ring. I should take you back to your mama,” he said not quite letting go of her.
She took the opportunity to intertwine their fingers and she smiled a bit at herself as she saw the blush appear once again on Julian’s face.
“I’ll come visit you often with my mama. She adored you ever since you were little,” he smiled softly at her.
They paused in front of Ruth’s home neither one wanted to leave. With a sigh Julian bent down to kiss the top of Ruth’s forehead. How she wished he would’ve kissed her lips instead. Soon her dreams of having a family of her own would come true.

Ruth turned 14 and Juliet turned 13!! Ruth may have been my favorite but now I think Juliet is quickly stealing that spot now. She doesn’t even have any “bad” traits but she still gets into arguments with her dad any chance she gets.

Elisabeth was the kindest one of the younger siblings. Sadly she was always overlooked most of the time. She usually kept to herself but Ruth always made sure to make time for her.

The girls were getting some homework done when little Osvaldo decided to grace them with his presence.
“Roof roof dog,” he said while staring down at Ruth.
Juliet couldn’t contain her laughter and Ruth closed her homework slowly, “Osvaldo! That isn’t a nice thing to say.”
Osvaldo didn’t pay any mind to his older sister and walked away. Ruth gave Juliet a stern look, ”You shouldn’t encourage him like that.”
“Oh come on you wanted to laugh to,” Juliet said with a smile.

Dearest Mama,
Giving birth to my sweet Juliet was the easiest compared to Ruth. I was no longer alone even if Edward had to step out. He nearly fainted and almost hit his head on the door!
You should see Ruth’s face when Juliet was born. I have never seen a child glow the way she did! Oh how I miss you and papa terribly. Not I day goes by when I don’t miss you.
Love,
Consuelo (stamped 1891)

Dear Mum,
How I wish you could come to Windenburg to meet your grandbaby. Ruth is quite the character. She is always looking to make people smile and she’s quite intelligent. Me and her always converse when I get home from work.
Consuelo is with child once again. Hoping for a boy this time around but I wouldn’t mind another girl.
Is there a way you could leave for a couple of weeks? I miss you... Pops as well despite our differences.

Consuelo decided to pay Mila a visit. It has been a while since they sat down for cup of coffee.
“I do hope it’s no trouble that brought Ruth along,” Consuelo said timidly.
She was still in awe by Mila’s house which she inherited from her late husband who died of an unknown illness. She wondered if her house would ever look like this one day.
“Nonsense! That is why I have nannies dear especially with two boys wrecking the house. Maybe they’ll tire each other out before we finish our coffee,” she said nonchalantly.
They chatted quite a bit as they finished their coffee. Sure enough all three children were sound asleep in the bench nearby.
“By the way how is your husband’s business going?” she asked.
“He makes enough to put food on our table. He does come home terribly late and hardly spends time with poor Ruth,” Consuelo said a bit saddened.
Mila drummed her fingers for a moment before she smiled, “I know just the thing I’ll put a good word in with my husband’s friend. Pablo I believe his name was.”
“Mila how could I ever repay you for your kindness?” Consuelo asked. She has never met someone with such a kind heart.
“I can’t be certain how well the pay will be but it will be a stable salary and he’ll be home by dinner that’s for certain. I found it rather odd Gunther sees him leave the town square before 5 which should leave plenty of time to come home early,” she said a bit skeptical.
Consuelo didn’t know this at all. She always assumed he stayed out past 6 which would explain why he comes home late. “He does go to a small pub from time to time. I believe he takes the long way home so the smell doesn’t latch onto his clothes so often,” Consuelo said with a small smile.
