i. you could love me ✧ cora stammos x elliot honeysett
summary: a shortie little second birthday present for my love @vasiktomis ♡ writing the atomic blondes has been on my radar for a while and since the jacob/soli piece isn’t QUITE done......this will suffice (for now). just domestic bliss where definitely everyone is on the same page, all the time. also combined it with the “morning after” prompt of “you know, if you moved in we wouldn’t have to keep saying goodbye like this”
words: 1.8K
warnings: toothpaste shenanigans, which is necessary because of the tooth-rotting fluff. someplace somewhere john seed is fuming that two pretty women are kissing without him
It’s early morning, and Cora is getting ready for work.
Or she’s trying to, anyway; it’s near impossible for her to find her toothpaste, buried in the cabinet over the sink, because every time she pulls it out Elliot sticks it back in their according to her organization system which does not register in her brain. Hunting down the toothpaste every morning has become almost as much of a ritual as getting ready itself.
It’s the same bottle. It shouldn’t be hard to find. Amidst the various hair and skin products that Scarlet keeps dropping off—“It should help with that dreadful dry winter skin, honey,”—a few scattered pill bottles, and the sensitive-teeth toothpaste that Elliot prefers, it should be old hat at this point.
And yet: it is not. She spends a good five minutes looking for it, checking the watch on her wrist to see how far it’s put her behind even though she already knows the answer.
“Cora,” comes the sleepy voice from inside the bedroom, “did you find—?”
She sticks her head into the bedroom and looks at the half-asleep blonde on the bed expectantly.
“Farthest left,” Elliot says, sitting up and rubbing her eyes, “top shelf.”
“Hm,” Cora replies, certain that she looked in that spot—and of course it is there, of course it is, once she shuffles around and opens the farthest left cabinet, on the top shelf, because there’s no way it would be in a place Elliot didn’t know where it was.
“Did you find it?”
Around a mouthful of toothpaste, Cora says, “Yes.”
“Okay. Good morning.”
“Hm,” she replies, as much of a good morning as she’ll muster while her mouth froths with Colgate. She hears the sound of Elliot rustling around in the bedroom and then going out into the kitchen; she’ll start the coffee, and maybe some toast, and then Cora will be off for work while Elliot settles in for the rest of her day off.
Mid-teeth-brushing, Cora absently tidies the bathroom; Elliot’s brush goes back on the shelf, the shampoo and conditioner back in the shower, the bubble bath that the blonde prefers with a heavy rose scent under the sink. It’s funny, to see their things blended like this, intermingling and fitted together so nicely, like they were always there. Like they were always—
She stops. She stares at the two bottles of shampoo and two bottles of conditioner—their separate, preferred brands—and narrows her eyes. Puzzling.
Elliot’s brush, and her brush. The hair dye that Elliot picked up from the store last week and left on the counter for her. The toothbrush holder where Ell’s little green toothbrush is still sitting, waiting for use. The towels Elliot specifically unpacked and brought out because Cora couldn’t stand the texture of the ones Elliot had before.
Their stuff. All of their stuff. Together. In the same place?
Cora rinses out her mouth and toothbrush and sets it aside. We’re living together? When did that happen? She can’t pinpoint the exact moment. Every time she searches through her memory, each slide is so thickly embedded in the last that it’s...seamless. Endless. There’s no hard lines, no divider or moment that says, You Are Here.
“Cora?” Elliot calls from the kitchen, breaking her out of the reverie. “Do you want toast?”
We’re living together, Cora thinks, her brows furrowing. “Yes, I do.”
She steps outside and into the kitchen. Elliot’s cinched into a soft robe, her cheeks still flushed warm with the special heat that comes from sleep, standing over the coffee pot as it bubbles unconvincingly and she sticks two pieces of bread into the toaster.
“We should get a new one,” Cora says after a moment. “Sounds like that one’s about to go.”
“I know,” Elliot sighs, passing a hand over her face. “Do you remember that one that we saw at the store, a few days ago? I keep thinking about it. I had a dream about it, it was so cool. I’ve never had a coffee pot that cool.”
Shifting on her feet and feeling very oddly about her sudden realization that she has been living with Elliot Honeysett for a (currently undetermined) amount of time, Cora says by way of response, “It has a lot of buttons.”
Elliot grimaces. “Yeah, it does.”
It did have a lot of buttons. More buttons than what are needed to make coffee. But the way Elliot’s brows furrow has Cora going, “But we can still get it,” filled with the sudden and inexplicable urge to wipe that frustration off of the woman’s face. The words do the trick; almost sheepishly, like she was guilty she’d been caught wanting something as frivolous as a sleek coffee pot with too many buttons, Elliot blushes.
“You think so?” she asks, sounding endearingly hopeful.
Cora shrugs, her stomach twisting pleasantly at the pretty way Elliot worries her lower lip with her teeth. She sits down at the table and says, “If you want it, we can.”
A beam splits across Elliot’s face, and the blush remains even as the toast pops up and she dutifully goes about plating it. “Okay,” she agrees, seemingly rejuvenated, “I’ll go by today and pick it up. That way we can put the old one out of its misery. Old Yeller it.”
She sets the plate of toast in front of Cora and the coffee cup too, and then pours herself one and sits down beside her. Immediately, Elliot busies herself with the paper; as Cora goes through the motions of eating toast, and Elliot chats about how excited she is to have a day off when the weather’s so nice, because that means surely the store will be putting out the plant starters, she thinks, This is very comfortable.
And then she thinks, hm.
“...ora? What do you think?”
She slides her gaze to the blonde beside her, brows furrowing in at the center of her forehead as she sweeps her eyes over Elliot’s inquisitive expression.
“When did we move in together?” Cora asks abruptly.
“Um,” Ell replies, blinking rapidly, “what?”
“We live together.”
“That’s correct,” the blonde ventures cautiously.
“When?” Cora feels the frown settling on her face. “When did we move in together?”
Elliot’s brows lift in surprise, like the question didn’t quite hit the first time. She clears her throat and settles in her seat for a moment, smoothing her hand over the newspaper on the table and then sliding it to the side.
“Eight months ago,” Elliot begins, “remember when you were complaining about how you had to drive back to your house to get your clothes for work, and we were standing on the porch—”
“Yes.”
“—and I kissed you,” she continues, and waits until Cora nods, as though she’s afraid that’s been forgotten, “and I said, you know, if you moved in we wouldn’t keep having to say goodbye like this—”
“I remember.”
“Right.” Elliot looks at her expectantly for a moment. “And then you said, ‘it would be more time-efficient if that were the case’.”
“It is.”
“So then we did.” She gestures with her hand vaguely, as though to indicate the house and their belongings. “Move in. Together.”
Cora frowns again. “Hm.”
“You don’t like it?” Elliot asks after a moment.
“Like what?”
“Living together,” and she sounds shy now, her cheeks going pink again, her fingers pulling at the hem of her robe sleeve with nerves. They’re all these little things that Cora’s become accustomed to picking up on—ticks and voice cadences that she’s heard over and over again in the last eight months (and some change). Oh, she thinks, but it’s too late because Elliot’s started rambling now.
“I know it’s kind of annoying, having all of these places I put stuff,” she’s saying, “and—we need a bigger mattress because Boomer takes up so much space, and there’s not enough shelves for the plants so they’re just kind of sitting around, but I did see some at the store that I could get when I go get the coffee pot, but—I know it’s annoying that there’s a neighbor so close by and sometimes Joey shows up unannounced—”
“I like it,” Cora interrupts quickly, clearing her throat.
Ell opens her mouth, looking distressed. “The—Joey coming by?”
“Living together.”
A quick, startled little laugh slips out of Elliot, like she’s caught off-guard by the relief suddenly flooding her expression. She’s so expressive—it’s impossible not to know how she’s feeling exactly in that moment—and she says, “I was really worried—”
Cora leans in and takes her face in her hands to kiss her. The gesture—soft and intimate—makes the tension flee out of Elliot’s shoulders, and she reaches up, fingers wrapping around Cora’s wrists to keep her hands there. Another thing she’s memorized; the blonde’s inherent desire to be touched, as often as possible.
“I really like it,” Cora insists, quieter now.
“Okay,” Elliot replies, “me too.”
“I just want to be able to find my toothpaste.”
“I put it in the same spot every time.”
“That’s impossible. I struggle to find it every time.”
Elliot laughs again, and then kisses her once, twice, a third time. Each one is softer than the last, bleeding with relief, her hands smoothing up Cora’s arms absently. “You’re going to be late for work.”
“I’m going to be late for work every morning if I can’t find my toothpaste.”
“Okay, alright!” she exclaims, but there’s only warmth in her voice, no exasperation or distress. “We can put your toothpaste wherever you want.”
“On the side of the sink,” Cora tells her. “The left side of the sink.”
“But the toothbrush holder is—” Elliot takes in a little breath. “Okay, yes. The left side of the sink.”
“Left hand gets the toothpaste, right hand gets the toothbrush.”
“Got it.”
“I love you,” she adds.
The words warm Elliot’s expression instantly, and she looks shy, but then she says, “But you didn’t know we were living together?”
“I’m going to work now.”
Ell kisses her one last time before releasing her. There’s a new buoyancy in the way she moves, suddenly lighter, all of the warmth in the world encompassed in her eyes and her expression and the way her mouth curves in a pleased little smile. When Cora comes to a stand and heads for the door, she’s stopped when Elliot says her name, and she turns to look inquisitively at the blonde.
“I like it,” Elliot says. “Living with you. Also.”
“I’d hope so.”
“And—” She blushes more. “I love you, too.”
There’s a tiny smile that tugs at the corners of Cora’s mouth, just barely; but it’s felt more in her chest, in the way her heart jumps up her throat and her stomach does a little flip when the words come out of the woman she’s (apparently) been living with for the last eight months. How such a detail slipped by is beyond her.
She doesn’t mind so much, anymore.

General
Rate the Ship: Awful | Ew | No pics pls | I’m not comfortable | Alright | I like it! | Got Pics? | Let’s do it! | Why is this not getting more attention?! | The OTP to rule all other OTPs
How long will they last? ○  until the bleak, cold, black end, because elliot is a Lifetime Bitch
How quickly did/will they fall in love? ○ immediately upon laying eyes on each other beating the shit out of people
How was their first kiss? ○  shy, but cute. they’re soft only for each other and the chemistry was impeccable
Wedding
Who proposed? ○  elliot; her love language is gift-giving and with her bad experience with marriage, the ULTIMATE devotion and gift to give is marriage.
Who is the best man/men? ○  joey hudson for sure
Who is the bride’s maid(s)? ○  as red mentioned before, sharky would be furious if he wasn’t the maid of honor so of course elliot would uphold that
Who did the most planning? ○  elliot; cora would spent .000005 seconds about to say how she doesn’t want to do it and elliot would IMMEDIATELY take full reign
Who stressed the most? ○  i’m going to say cora just based off of red’s prev. answer--elliot doesn’t stress once she’s there and cora gets cold feet : ‘ )
How fancy was the ceremony? Back of a pickup truck | 2 | 3 | 4 | Normal Church Wedding | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Kate and William wish they were this big. scarlet honeysett 1.) supports the marriage and 2.) would never let her daughter have anything less than a near-immaculate wedding, but elliot would try and reign her in.
Who was specifically not invited to the wedding? ○  i want to say john but i know that elliot and cora would send him an invite out of pure, unadulterated cruelty. so probably only joseph.
Sex
Who is on top? ○  definitely cora. elliot feels comfy enough around her to let go of some of that control.
Who is the one to instigate things? ○  probably elliot; she’s pretty touchy-feely when she’s happy
How healthy is their sex life? Barely touch themselves let alone each other | 2 | 3 | 4 | Once a couple weeks, nothing overboard | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They are humping each other on the couch right now don’t @ me red you know it’s the truth
How kinky are they? Straight missionary with the lights off | 2 | 3 | 4 | Might try some butt stuff and toys | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Don’t go into the sex dungeon without a horse’s head you bet your ass that since elliot likes cora being in control it happens
How long do they normally last? ○  elliot likes to take her time; she doesn’t like to rush through things, whereas cora is a very busy, so it’s somewhere in-between. elliot probably gets her to slow it down a little more often than not when she’s feeling particularly needy.
Do they make sure each person gets an equal amount of orgasms? ○  bruh you know elliot ain’t out here keeping track, as long as they’re both happy
How rough are they in bed? Softer than a butterfly on the back of a bunny | 2 | 3 | 4 | The bed’s shaking and squeaking every time | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Their dirty talk is so vulgar it’d make Dwayne Johnson blush. Also, the wall’s so weak it could collapse the next time they do it. elliot is a sucker for pain
How much cuddling/snuggling do they do? No touching after sex | 2 | 3 | 4 | A little spooning at night, or on the couch, but not in public | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They snuggle and kiss more often than a teen couple on their fifth date to a pillow factory. with cora, elliot loves softer moments; being held etc, the number would probably be higher if cora wasn’t so resistant to being vulnerable
Children
How many children will they have naturally? ○  MANY dog children, at least one horse, if cora lets her elliot would have a whole gaggle of chickens
How many children will they adopt? ○  elliot is absolutely terrified of having kids because her own mother was such a failure, so like??? how would she know how to be a mom. but she’d do it if cora asked, maybe like just one.
Who gets stuck with the most diapers? ○  they’re pretty equal on sharing child duties.
Who is the stricter parent? ○  probably cora; elliot is a flower-child at heart and likes to be the cool, fun parent, whereas cora provides the structure.
Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? ○  both of them, but mostly cora. elliot cannot be allowed to participate in truth or dare because she has no regard for her own safety, but she’s a worrying parent.
Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? ○  elliot!
Who is the more loved parent? ○  elliot will say both of them, but she’s so soft and prone to hugs/arts and crafts projects that it might be her, though it’s VERY close.
Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? ○  both of them. elliot is hugely intense about PTA--not necessarily being a participant in events, but making sure her kids are getting a fair shake. she’s easily tiger mom and cora has probably had to intervene in elliot popping off on another parent more than once.
Who cried the most at graduation? ○  definitely el; she’s v v soft.
Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? ○  again, el. cora’s more of a hardass than she is and she’s always thinking back on the days SHE used to get in trouble, so she likes to give them some wiggle room.
Cooking
Who does the most cooking? ○  el, but she shouldn’t be.
Who is the most picky in their food choice? ○  elliot. she’s weird about her food, cora will eat just about anything.
Who does the grocery shopping? ○  agaaaaaain elliot. cora would live entirely off of the green planet earth if she had it her way, but elliot needs things to make lemon bars and big batches of soup.
How often do they bake desserts? ○  the one good thing el’s mom ever did for her was give her the lemon bars recipe, so frequently. and baking is a de-stresser for elliot.
Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? ○   cora is a big meat eater, elliot is definitely more of a salad eater. this means every meal is both things and that whatever one doesn’t eat, the other will finish off.
Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? ○  probably cora; elliot is a bit scatter-brained when it comes to anniversaries and she doesn’t think very highly of them anyway and no matter what it is, elliot adores it.
Who is more likely to suggest going out? ○  cora. el is a big homebody and doesn’t like going out if she can help it.
Who is more likely to burn the house down accidentally while cooking? ○  cora, although elliot is not far behind.
Chores
Who cleans the room? ○  el; she’s a big tidier. consistently, throughout the day, definitely not a compulsion
Who is really against chores? ○  cora, which is fine because elliot has a specific place she likes everything to be anyway.
Who cleans up after the pets? ○  elliot.
Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug? ○  cora.
Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? ○  cora, because she’s so worried about get picked apart by guests. elliot is used to it thanks to her mom, so she always gives cora a big pep talk prior.
Who found a dollar between the couch cushions while cleaning? ○  cora. the couch is the one place elliot doesn’t like to go.
Misc.
Who takes the longer showers/baths? ○  cora, but elliot will join her as often as she can to maximize hot water.
Who takes the dog out for a walk? ○  elliot, like clockwork, because she can’t stand the dogs spending all day with nervous/frantic dog energy.
How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? ○  cora likes to decorate fervently, elliot likes to neurotically take them down.
What are their goals for the relationship? ○  elliot is a big romance softie; she saw cora bash a man’s face in and it was true love, and she feels safe with cora which she doesn’t feel that way hardly ever. being stuck in constant fight or flight means cora gives her a sense of stability and stops her from second-guessing herself. i think cora probably just likes that elliot is so soft and also so willing to beat the shit out of someone for her.
Who is most likely to sleep till noon? ○  cora. elliot wakes up at 7 at the latest.
Who plays the most pranks? ○ if any, probably cora; elliot is not a prankster and her idea of a joke is surprising her with a kiss or something.

15 AND 19 THANK U FOR DEALERS CHOICE LOVE U 👏
hi red!!! ilu!! thanks for always entertaining my fool head!
i’m going to go with elliot/cora for this one because ᴵ’ᵐ ᵇᵉᵃᵘᵗᶦᶠᵘˡ and i can do what i want
15. describe your favorite moment of that ship!
obviously i love every moment, but favorite moment is when cora locks eyes with another parent at a PTA meeting that elliot is about to throw down with because they had the audacity to insinuate one of their children was causing problems (”a STAMMOS-HONEYSETT? CAUSING PROBLEMS? THE FUCKING NERVE”) and then having to go “that one’s mine” and get her wifey. and then vice versa.
19. talk about a headcanon you’ve never talked about before.
THIS IS HARD BECAUSE WE TALK ABOUT THE HC’S but i thiiiiink it would probably be that elliot brags about cora all the time. like any time she gets the chance to. she’s so safe and happy with cora that she just glows, and so someone will be like “i like your rose bush” and she’ll be like “thank you, my WIFE bought it for me, she knows they’re my favorite woody perennial” because. elliot would have a favorite woody perennial and cora would know it.
