Hello! I’ve seen your work over the years and every time I see it I always get a kick over it. I have a sociological question to ask you about centaurs. How do humans or other races fit into their lives? Both in a general sense of life, platonically, and romantically? Sorry if you’ve answered this before.
Thank you! It always blows my mind that I've been puttering away in my little corner of the internet with my horse people for this long!
I've covered a couple different specific situations in my cultures; re platonic and romantic? but for the most part is it boils down to that romantic would probably be rare and boil down to individual choices for how they approach it? But for platonic I have sort of covered a lot of platonic relationships just from the standpoint that basically all my centaur cultures have a deep societal tie to another race.
At first it was a lot of convenience- a way to get around the difficulties of centaur bodies getting in the way of certain ways of life, but at this point I just do it cause it's lovely to me!
Like the merchants build their cities with the dwarves and they both benefit from the dwarves engineering and centaur's strength and mobility re:trade. The centaurs easily manage huge farms, trade networks, and logging infrastructure on their strength and speed but benefit from dwarves (and a small portion of other bipeds) being better set up for building (try to imagine a centaur making a roof, it's vexed me for a year now..) and generally engineering wizzes so it's a mutually beneficial relationship to entwine their cultures in the main Merchant City
Obviously my Riders are wholly entwined with their biped family as I've talked extensively about in.. too many posts probably haha
but then my very lightly covered Mountain folk have a different, almost religious relationship with the Forest Giants in which the relationship between their two cultures is separate other than the spiritual importance they hold with each other. The giants live approximately 300 years but are very slow, sedate creatures who prize a life of peace and telling stories over all else. So the centaurs almost view them as minor deities and the giants keep and love the stories their fiery little companions entrust to them.
As you can tell, I really love building all these races and cultures and then mashing them together and see what comes out! I find it makes the world feel more real and lived in when I'm not only thinking about how a culture would work and operate, but also how they interact with their neighbors! What's their main export and how does that shape their life and relations?? These are the questions I get LOST in so thank you for asking :D

If you love the wacky Disney horses? If you like Disney type songs that will make you laugh & cry (and I did) If you like a normal world, clashing with cute insanity?... then omg watch this. I'm sure it was made by a frustrated wana be Disney artist.
Story: Horse is a War-Horse, and she and her young Rider are fleeing monstrous creatures with an artefact, when the horde catch up to them, and Horse ends up in another rainbow world, and all she wants it to get back to her rider, and a war-horse and a rainbow world don't mix as shes pulled into a little crazy Centaur herd who agree to help her find Rider... and omg it's a journey.
It was VERY enjoyable, and I will say it does have a happy ending! but if you dont like 'Comfortable Dug', then you're lost XD

Um. Holy shit.
I just finished Centaurworld and I'm crying like a baby. I don't think any of my followers watch it so I'm just gonna put everything out there.
God, the Elktaurs backstory was so tragic, and then learning that the human part of him trapped the elk part of him in a dungeon for 10 years???? The wedding between the Woman and the General while the Elk watched from afar and sang with them?? (also side note, there was one mlm couple and one wlw couple and my sister and I shouted "gay people!" I love the diversity this show has) I had a feeling, but when it was revealed that the General and the Elk were connected in a if-one-dies-the-other-dies way I knew the General was not going to kill the Nowhere King. And when Horse was trying to leave the Nowhere King's mind and the Elk turned into the fucking door to leave it was so sad.
AND WHEN RIDER GOT FUCKING STABBED????? OH MY GOD. HAND TO MOUTH I WAS SHOCKED. And Horse stayed there with her the entire time, even though they needed to kill the Nowhere King was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. And when the Woman sang a version of the Nowhere King song with different lyrics that made it so terrible that this monster used to be the love of her life AND FINDING OUT THAT SHE WOULD HAVE LOVED HIM EVEN IF HE WAS A CENTAUR AND NOT A MAN GAHHHHHHHIDFHADFO. Going back up to Horse and Rider after that, I was already teary eyed, but when Rider was like "I'm glad we're together again, us against the world" and the went fucking limp I was crying so much I turned to my sister and was like "what the fuck". Fade to black and we're back in Centaurworld minus Horse and Rider and I was crying so much especially with the songs overlapping each other but yay! Riders alive!! I'm still crying!! Anyway.
9.5/10 show, the songs are amazing, the animation is amazing, the plot is amazing. Would (and probably will) watch again.

I LOVE HOW THE NOWHERE KING IS WRITTEN.
the title says it all!
but lemme go more in depth. centaurworld spoilers under the cut.
OK. so let me get started. basically where it starts is only being mentioned by name maybe TWICE before the season finale? and you forget all about it by the time you get there, due to the shows Wacky Antics and what not… but hes never truly elaborated upon? which i really like? its just a really vague lullaby that sounds really nice and then you hear the lyrics and ur like "Oh Yeah Ok i guess." and then you get to the rift, horse and rider meet up and for like 2 seconds ur like "HOORAY!" and then the GOOP starts dripping and ur like "oh nah." and then one of the hardest villain designs in fiction just APPEARS? and hes IMMEDIATELY on their ass about the key. standard villain affair after that, but he gets WAY more interesting later. trust. something that rlly sticks out to me abt the rift pt 1 and 2 is the line of "i intended to spare you all." which IM PRETTY SURE I DIDNT HALLUCINATE BUT STILL. thats just so????? What did he mean by that. also i like how when the woman appears, he IMMEDIATELY kneels and says "i never stopped thinking about you." we LOVE foreshadowing.
and then she DOES end up stabbing him, just not fatally. he escapes to the human world after they "smash his skull" and "kill him", while they all head to centaurworld. so far Yeah I Guess It ain't much but it does set up something later.
after this, in season 2, we're introduced to the general (He will be important.)
hes not rn but he will be. anywho, the nowhere king goes back to the human world, and starts amassing more of his army. he begins doing some Crazy Ass Shit fusing animals together to make super minotaurs, and just. villain affair yeah.
his story doesnt really pick up until the last episode, where horse uses her backstory magic to see whats inside of him. and as much as she sees, its just a black void.. til she does something and.
WHAT THE FUCK. normal ass elk in his brain ig?
so he introduces himself, and comments on how similar him and horse really are. horse asks wheres the nowhere king and hes like "oh. thats me. im a part of him." and then he gets hit with the "nowhere king is nothing but evil and you seem really nice!!! what do you mean youre a part of him?"
and then HERE WE FUCKING GO.
im doing this chronologically in order of timeframe when it all happened, not in timeframe of the show.
so its revealed that he USED TO BE A CENTAUR. particularly an elktaur, who was a mechanic who worked on the rift.
^ look at him.
and he kind of HATES it. he wishes he wasnt a centaur because as humans travel in and out of centaurworld, they always have to make some passing remark about how centaurs are seen as lesser than humans, to the point where he Literally Just Shoves someone through the portal to get them to stfu which. That was so fucking real of him. not to mention he literally just fixed an interdimensional portal from bugging out which ungrateful??????????? wtf u couldve died?????
then he meets this human princess.
standard love at first sight affair. he IMMEDIATELY becomes flustered as soon as shes like "we'll tell him the reason we were able to get back at all." while smiling at him.
(hi elktaur.)
ANYWHO she then leaves centaurworld, and throws a party for him at the human world for. Securing the safe travels of everyone between dimensions.
this booboo ass cake.
she then points out how hes missing his antlers, and rather has a hat on. to which he replies, "they fell off!" Oh we'll get to that
do they know how to eat a fucking cake. Sorry im getting too offtopic anyways
he then presents her with 2/6 key pieces, to which she fuses them together and makes one whole. she comments on how shes learned a lot about magic from being in centaurworld, and how you need to respect "both sides" which is going to be a MAJOR theme for these two.
he does feel, that the love isn't real though, or that it wouldnt work, due to the way he was. which was, a centaur. And we will get to what he did dont you worry
this is where we find out what happened to those antlers of his.
HE FUCKING SAWED THEM OFF. to appear more human.
he then tests the magic of the key by taking a turnip to the rift, and firing some sort of blast at it. and what hes resulted with is
it being separated into 2 things. Naturally you can see where this is going so ill cut to the chase. he blasts it at himself, hoping hell lose the side of him thats a beast, and hell be fully human, but then..
THATS RIGHT. THE FUCKING GENERAL IS THE "HUMAN HALF" OF HIM. when i saw this shit for the first time i YELLED.
the elk then proceeded to have a perfectly understandable panic attack. to which horse tries to comfort him, only going to another memory.
the elk and general confront eachother, with the elk saying "we made a mistake." and the general just absentmindedly going "yeah i shouldve invited you to the wedding lol" because he DID in fact marry the princess.
he tries to convince the other half of himself to undo the mistake theyve made, saying "we didnt even try. she couldve loved us how we were." only to be followed with, "no, she loves ME." and he straight up STARTS DROWNING THE ELK????
fortunately, it doesnt end up working.
theyre still connected. whatever affects one, affects the other. meaning that he dies if he kills the elk. so what does he do instead? well, captures him of course.
and its never shown on screen, but its stated he put him in the castles deepest dungeon, a windowless cell, which he couldnt even STAND in, for a decade.
by the time he escapes he. is a LITTLE screwed in the head. understandably. so he thinks to make his own family, by fusing humans and beasts.
he's made the first minotaur.
and this scene is especially rough because you can just SEE his slow decline into the nowhere king.
this is accentuated with him telling himself "i don't belong anywhere."
the self hatred fucking GOT him.
and he just starts to look worse and worse every time he spins that key.
Oh hey look at that hes starting to look kinda familiar
THERE WE AREEEEEEE!!!!!!
then we're brought to a scene where the princess takes the key out. to which she reality checks the FUCK out of the general.
"whatre you doing? put that thing down! havent you seen what it's done to him?"
"you locked him away in the dungeons. did you think there would be no effect?"
the princess then shatters the key, being thrown into centaurworld, with the general being thrown into the human world, and the elk -- now, nowhere king, being locked in the rift, as both doors close.
then stuff happens w rider and horse ig but this aint abt them sorry whats important is that the general tries to kill rider for shooting at the nowhere king
the princess, then appears and the general tries to counsel with her. "i had to do it! i had to do it so i could stay with you!

the princess then SNAPS and has her horse kick general off a cliff, to which the nowhere king follows him down.
the princess also follows them down, and uses the key, saying "let me see you how you were. one last time."
she tells him she would have loved him the way he was, after all.
and then.. she brings back the key scepter, and starts SINGING A REPRISE OF THE LULLABY FROM ALL THE WAY BACK IN THE BEGINNING, AS SHE WINDS UP AND..
ending the tale of the elk and the general, for good.
in conclusion, i am REALLY obsessed with the character and how they handled the nowhere king. the feeling of being a hopeless romantic, but having that feeling that youd NEVER be accepted, so fundamentally changing yourself and ripping yourself in half, ending up in fucking up both you, and the one you just wanted to be with, for good. not to mention the allegories for internalized racism, self-hatred, and dissociation, and GOD man hes just so fucking well written. this entire story is so well written and heartfelt, and its just. so surprising for a joke with such. Ehhh humor at points that theres this story thats so. heartfelt and dealt with so much care in the final episode thats been built on over the course of the series.
tl;dr hopeless romantic who gets racially profiled splits himself in half. shocked to learn he hurt his lover as well and gets killed for it.
tl;dr tl;dr elktaur rolls "Worst Idea Ever". asked to leave mortal plane.

Exodite Aeldari [eldar] Headcannons
I spent more time then i thought writing some of these out so figured i should put em somewhere as opposed to just tossing to the void as i often do.
might add more to this idk
wild clans - the wood elves of the exodites and most rugged of the exodites who live scattered and in harmony with the nature around them, but possess the most fearsome tempers of the exodites and a tendency to slaughter all off worlders regardless of their status as invaders or friends. due to their long times spent in the furthest reaches of exodite world wilderness, wild clans serve as caretakers of nature during times of peace and as scouts and ambushers in times of war employing nature itself in its deadly capacity for violence against off world threats.
knight clans - the feudal knight pilots and dragon riders of the exodites who make use of more permanent landed settlements and fortress well following an ancient 'feudal' and clan tradition of aeldari society. Like imperial knights, knight clans have a tendency to be aristocratic and rigid in their codes of conduct, though said codes of conduct are baffling for those versed in human feudal traditions due to the complexities of aeldari feudal tradition. knight clans build and maintain the exodite knights and other advanced technologies thanks to their expertise, the fortress acting as forge factories of sorts though such functionality would be imperceptible to an outsider. alongside exodite knights, the knight clans maintain large dragon herds to act as supplementary forces from firing platforms to mounts for the esteemed dragon knights.
heart clans - the core and largest part of an exodite worlds population and those who have the most frequent contact with off worlders in any diplomatic capacity, thanks to heart clans living in the closest approximation exodite worlds have for major population centres and cities. heart clans seek to live balanced lives in harmony with the natural world and free from the sins of their species past. as such much of their role is that of trades and craftsmen for the wild and knight clans, as well as philosophers and spiritual leaders for exodite worlds as a whole a decidedly important role given the highly spiritual nature of an exodite world and its worldspirits. in times of war however it is also the heart clans who serve as the core of exodite armies, militarizing quickly and efficiently thanks to a long tradition of martial pursuit and excellence that all exodites regardless of clan pursue as a means of tempering the mind and soul.
exodite knights - large walkers like the imperial knight but of aeldari make and build. Unlike the famous wraithknight the exodite knights is a technologically inferior counterpart but is far easier to build, maintain, and importantly to pilot compared to a wraithknight and serve a vital role in exodite defence. exodite worlds tend to have thin population density even at their most populous, a consequence of the rustic lifestyles they pursue. as such the exodite knight serves as an efficient means to patrol the breadth of the world in haste, and more importantly as a deterrent towards opportunists.
sataur knights - the smallest exodite knight class, sataurs are the most common exodite knights but tend to not be deployed on scouting of exodite worlds, only really serving as scouts and ambushers during times of war and usually for the sake of larger exodite knights. instead the sataur act as surveillance and guards of important locations, covertly hidden in preparation for whatever comes.
antaur knights - the most prominent exodite knight class, similar in size and design as a wraithknight but possessing more rudimentary technology such as making use of a more conventional, by aeldari standard, cockpit and control system.
centaur knights - a rather unique knight design utilizing four horse like legs but a humanoid upper body, the centaur possesses high top speed because of its design allowing it to engage in aggressive hit and run tactics with impunity, though its turning is somewhat limited because of its design. a centaur provides a rapid response exodite knight in both times of war and times of peace thanks to its high speed and length of design allowing for more specialized attachments to be added in cases of emergency
mintaur knights - one of the bulkier exodite knights, mintaurs are slower but more heavily armoured then traditional exodite knights allowing it to weather punishing fire and wield heavier weaponry to deliver punishment. Due to their nature the mintaurs are largely deployed in times of war but they are also used in peace time to wrangle or grapple with larger mega-fauna and dragons
dragons - mega-fauna similar to ancient earth dinosaurs and a staple of exodite worlds as both working mounts, pack animals and even food. A mix of feathered and lizard like dragons.
woodwraiths - an exodite spin on the wraithguard, where a skeleton of wraithbone is encased in a natural growing material, typically a tree grown around the wraithbone skeleton, before brought to life as a woodwraith. Imperial scholars argue this is a means to make due with limited material compared to the esoteric and 'exotic' wraithbone monopolized by the craftworlds. in truth exodites prefer this method for two reasons a] it is less technologically intensive and b] it imbues the woodwraith not with the spirit of a fallen ghost but with the 'spirit' of nature itself giving each woodwraith a unique gestalt consciousness, and contributing to their unique physicality compared to traditional wraithguard. woodwraiths look like they should be subject to high flammability, but the wooden parts regrow too quickly to hamper the woodwraith thanks to feeding off the psychic resonance of wraithbone. woodwraiths unlike wraithguard are highly independent in nature, to the point of having the opposite problem and needing powerful psykers to direct and negotiate that independence to a common goal. otherwise woodwraiths will tend to act on an imperceptible instinct, though for the exodites especially wild clans who make a great many woodwraith, this instinct is largely to their benefit as the woodwraiths will huntdown with extreme prejudice all who dare threaten an exodite world and its nature.
exodite ships - the original exodus ships the exodite populations used to reach their new homes have long since been reduced to parts or new homes on the planets surface. The memory of such ships however remain present in every exodite population, and as an exodite world grows in strength some degree of space flight often becomes necessary even if exodites overall maintain a policy of isolation and self sufficiency. the most powerful exodite worlds field entire fleets based on those exodus ship patterns with witch to defend their home worlds and to engage in limited trade with other worlds or their cousins from craft worlders to even occasional deals struck with drukhari kabals. exodite warships favour mobility and deception like all aeldari fleets, but emphasize long range weaponry and fighter capabilities over other forms of fleet warfare.

Centaur World Theory
Hear me out: Rider and Horse are sisters.
IT MAKES SENSE!!!
Listen, have you seen general? He is identical to Rider
Woman and General were married for a while before Woman found out about the King of nowhere, so there is a chance she could have gotten pregnant.
In my mind, Woman got pregnant and didn't know it was a horse and a human, she thought it was a human baby. At the time she was in the Centaurworld and decided to put them in the other world.
She used her magic and with the help of the Hippocentaur (forgot her name, sorry) she was able to teleport her babies in the human world.
Another thing: color
This guy has Blue close to purple grayishi hair color, while Woman has a purple light hair color
Now, what was Rider's hair color after she stayed in the Centaurworld? Magenta
And Horse's color? Light Blue
And all of this colors are close to each other in the circle of colors
Now to finish it:
Their color combined
Which only proves my point, it's a light-grayishi magenta.
Bonus: Ok, Horse is a Horse and that guy is not a horse. But Dupleton adopted a lizard and no one cared, so they probably don't care if you have a child with someone of a different specie. And we've never seen that guy's parents.

I keep thinking about what if Aideen was split because of Garnok?
She created the island while stil was this centaur creature. She natured all the living things on it, making deers and blooming flowers. Keeping the island safe from the other part of the world.
And when Garnok was banished and crashed into the island, the impact broke the law of the world. Rifts opened to other dimention, magic went berserk and Aideen split to human and horse. She wasn't strong enough to protect the island alone, so she gifted her remaining lower to her new creatures, creating the soul riders and soul horses.
Aideen and the first four banished Garnok, but since Aideen power wasn't strong enough it was only a permanent solution. Each generation of the soul riders are stronger, since each reincarnation of Aideen is stronger.
Their goal is destroying Garnok and recreat the eden that never come to be.

one thing i love about centaurworld is how it differentiates the two worlds, usually through styles and animation. but besides that, it also shows this through naming convention. every major centaur we're introduced to has a name--Wammawink, Horsatia, Zulius, etc--, but everyone from the human world doesn't. they're only referred to or credited with titles--Rider, the General, Mysterious Woman, Horse. the only exception to this is Becky Apples.
and then there's the Elktaur. an interesting case once you've considered the above. he follows the human naming convention of not really having a name, but even the name alone outs him as a centaur. which is a great way to signify his position!! even when being or acting human he still is rooted to his centaur origins. stuck between two worlds, being both and neither at the same time. he fits in everywhere and nowhere.
and considering the title he chose is the Nowhere King, we can see how he chose to interpret that.

Idea: orchard harvester saddle. More of a standing platform with a scooter handlebar for the rider where the centaur can hand things up and down. (playing Farming Simulator is making me crave more peaceful/agricultural world building; there's already so much Warlike WB around, it needs some balance)
(also, eat like a horse vs eat like a bird, horse metab is high efficiency but a lot of it just due to net size, imagine that efficiency applied to refined grains and breads. Centaur diets would be less-per-weight than humans, although not necessarily by much due to the metabolic needs of sapient brain and foretorso)
Ohhhh I absolutely love this and absolutely think it should be a thing. I've been thinking more about the inherent benefits of centaurs in an agrarian society and more and more the borders of the Merchant city has been expanding outward towards the edge of Rider territory with enormous matriarchal farm towns that feed most of the surrounding societies so this would fit right in to that kind of lifestyle! And sounds so useful! One doing the moving and loadbearing, one doing the climbing and picking.
And I agree, war shapes societies undeniably but so many worldbuilders forget that trade, craft and industry shape cultures and societies just as much! It's definitely a topic i could GO OFF about haha, I have major exports and interrelated trade agreements drawn up between ALL my current societies 😁
(also absolutely, the use of refined grains and bread was a huge part of my initial thoughts about how centaurs could survive feeding that big horse body with comparatively small/limited human teeth. The efficiency of processed grain and grass fibers would be SO necessary to their digestion and overall survival!)
