fox's ronance moodboards - catradora/spop au
Nancy could feel herself sinking deeper into Vecna's mindscape; felt herself floating away just as quickly as the vision he had given her faded. The beautiful vision of what she felt could have been her future, if things had panned out differently.
There she stood, clad in a long dress, hair pinned up and feeling as though she were radiating a soft glow. She glanced down at her bed, finding a graduation cap awaiting her gaze. She picked it up gently, and placed it on her head, looking at herself in the mirror. She felt almost golden. She felt... proud? Something she hadn't allowed herself to feel in ages. There was no time for pride. Not in the Horde, and not as She-Ra.
At that moment, her bedroom door swung open. It was Robin, followed by Steve in hot pursuit. Their laughter filled the room, wall to wall. Nancy felt it swell in her chest.
They were both wearing sharp-looking suits, Robin's slightly more unkempt than Steve's. This seemed to be what Steve was trying to adjust as Robin jumped behind Nancy, giggling.
"Nance, stop him! He's gonna torture me!"
"Just let me fix it, Rob! Christ..."
Jonathan stepped into the doorway, leaning on it while fondly rolling his eyes and shaking his head.
"C'mon you guys," he said, voice rising above the chaos. "What are the kids gonna say if we're late for our own graduation?"
Robin stuck her tongue out at Steve as Jonathan gave him a warm peck on the cheek. The two of them left the room, and Robin went to follow. Before she reached the door, she turned towards Nancy, extending her hand.
"You coming?"
As Nancy smiled and moved to take her hand, the vision flickered. Vecna's eyes grew sharper in front of her as he materialized. She had forgotten. Forgotten that she was still just a pawn in his game.
"A beautiful wish," he mocked. "But there will be no future. Not for you."
The pain grew as she floated downward in his vision of true darkness. It was all-encompassing. Despair. And she felt nothing but the urge to give in to the darkness. And then...
"Nancy!"
Robin?
"Please! You have to wake up!"
Nancy's eyes shot open, and the first thing she saw was Robin, her hand reaching through the vortex towards her. Tears flooded her eyes as she saw the desperation on her face. Why hadn't she given up?
"You can't give up!" yelled Robin, as if she'd read her mind. "You have never given up on anything in your life! Not even on me. So don't you dare start now!"
"It's too late," Nancy cried, voice breaking. "I've failed."
The desperation on Robin's face morphed into fierce determination as she finally cried out, emotion dripping from her words. Her voice, strong and true, broke through the heaviness of Vecna's mind. And suddenly, Nancy could see. Truly see.
"Don't you get it? I love you! I always have! So please, just this once! Stay!"
