Studyblr CC Set — release!
After a really, really long time, I'm as done as I will be. The set features a total of 84 objects, split into four categories (stationery, electronics, notebooks and storage). All new meshes, all new textures, this is SUCH a big project.

Why increasing public sector wages won’t cause inflation.
One of the current Tory arguments about wages is that if they increase public sector wages, inflation will go up. Even by their own logic, this is clear nonsense, and there’s a reasonably strong argument that increasing public sector wages could actually stimulate the economy too.
So, where does this idea come from? Well, it comes from business, where the idea is that if you increase wages, some or all of that price rise gets passed on to the consumer, and prices go up. Of course, even this is false, because in many cases the consumer will say “fuck that” and not buy the product, or choose a cheaper alternative. Thus, the company must instead reduce profits to retain consumers (and let’s not be fooled, a lot of companies are still making huge, untaxed profits right now). Or they cut hours and provide a less good service.
But this doesn’t apply in the public sector. Increasing wages of people in education, or in healthcare or in the civil service etc has no direct impact on the price of anything, because the public don’t directly buy our services.
However, it may actually stimulate the economy more widely.
In general, when you give rich people more money, they save it, or possibly “invest it”- meaning it basically goes out of circulation and doesn’t further benefit anyone.
If you give people right at the bottom more money, then they almost inevitably spend it right away, usually on essentials- which benefits the economy because more money is being spent, so companies have more money to pay wages, etc etc. But this doesn’t work soooo well, because people always need essentials, and will find some way of getting them, generally, if they possibly can. Of course, we want a world where everyone has access to these essentials easily, but we’re trying to think like an economist right now.
Most public sector workers are somewhere between these two extremes although some are definitely in the second category.
Right now, however a lot of people like teachers, nurses, junior doctors, junior civil servants etc etc are “feeling the squeeze”- caught between high housing prices, rising bills and stagnating wages, there’s less and less money to spend on “luxuries”. People might cut back on eating out, on take aways, on buying new clothes, on buying presents, on “treats”, on non-essential travel, on buying things like books and nice stationery, on make up and toiletries, on haircuts and getting their nails done- the list goes on.
These things aren’t essential to survival, you can do without them. So if you can’t afford to buy them, you don’t. But of course, if a lot of people stop buying these things at once, it hurts the economy. Companies that make or sell these things see profits go down, perhaps reduce hours or lay off staff, which in turn gives them less money to spend, and it all becomes a vicious cycle which shrinks your economy- i.e. the worst possible thing if you’re a Tory, supposedly.
(Investing in education and health also has long term pay off, but anyway).
If the people at the bottom and the people a bit above the bottom had a bit more spare cash, there would be more spending, and more businesses would see a proportion of that spending. And so they can offer staff more hours, pay higher wages, employ more staff. There’s more money going around and it’s a virtuous circle. The economy grows.
Would some companies then put their prices up? Maybe. Companies will often raise prices whenever they can. But the pressure to increase prices tends to come from increased costs, not increased custom. And it would matter less because everyone or nearly everyone would be earning more.
Cutting and cutting just leaves everyone poorer. We know this.
So why do the Tories keep going on TV and spouting bollocks? It might be because they don’t actually understand the economics of the situation (scarily likely) but it’s also likely to be ideological. They’d rather “win” the fight with the unions than do something that could actually help everyone.

prepping for new year
so i'm starting my second year of university doing biblical studies and theology soon, and doing so i have to be prepared because spiritually i am a boy scout.
notion is close to being done! when i get more information about my assignments i'll add more to it and i'll also be able to change the layout to fit the focus of my modules.
i've got a journal type thing that i've decorated to be my centre of operations. i like to have a book that i can put admin stuff like key dates, assignments, to do lists and module information to help me keep everything organised. i also like to have a place to put my post-it notes, as otherwise my desk becomes a literal mosaic of various luminous colours covered in all my scribbles, so this book helps me keep everything i need to remember and do in one place.
okay i have a confession - i have an unhealthy stationery collecting habit. i have hundreds of pens, a lot of different types of notepads and so many highlighters. an absolutely obscene very cool and normal amount of highlighters. organising them is my idea of a wild night out - except it's a nerdy night in where i sort all of my pens into three categories and pack them into separate pencils cases. in preparing for uni, i have done this organising for my pens, etc, and i've also collected my paper resources.
have you seen that vaguely problematic meme that's like 'i have two wolves inside me'? well that's me but one wolf says 'type all your notes' and the other wolf says 'handwrite your notes.' i can never stick to one type of notes and it is the bane of my existence. to try to minimise resistance when it comes to note-taking, i've got myself a few notepads that i tear paper out and file it away, along with my notion set-up, and google docs. i've found that handwritten notes work best for when i'm brainstorming, making notes on sources for assignments, and times when i want to draw diagrams, mind maps or messy notes that have lots of connections between concepts.
textbooks bought, bank account cries. (if you're in the uk i recommend an online second hand bookstore called world of books that has a lot of textbooks that are uni level and is way more affordable than buying them new or from your university)

🎮 This is a clear story of the whole 'opposites attract' trope that we see going on all of the time. Between the both of you, it's like night and day. His gloomy disposition and state of dress (I hope he washes that hoodie bevause he wears it all of the time), and then your pink and frilly clothing really makes the both of you stand out when you're next to one another.

🎮 Hybperneess isn't exactly his strong suit and he is well known for avoiding the extroverts at the school. Your hyperactiveness is a bit different, though. Unlike other people, you are emotionally aware and are able to see when he begins to grow uncomfortable with tbe amount kf energy you are excuding and are able to quickly bring the energized atmosphere down to the levels where he is the lost comfortable.
🎮 Overall, the relationship took time to get used too, but now he's latched onto you like a leech (no pun intended). He honestly can't get enough of just how adorable you are, your state of dress, and just how tou carry yourself. This is certainly a romance route he wants to carry out until the very end.

Bandai Namco US Boasts Impressive 2023 Licensing Expo Booth

Fingers crossed! Bandai Namco US is attending the 2023 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas Nevada at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. They announced back in mid-May that they were attending to help find the right licensing partner! They’re looking to branch out the Tamagotchi brand to new categories, including apparel, accessories, stationery, food, and more!

The Bandai Namco booth at F170 features several Bandai brands, but you know we’re interested in the Tamagotchi section. PRGuitarman was in attendance a the 2023 Licensing Expo and was able to capture some pictures of the impressive booth. Similar to the 2022 Comic Con booth that Bandai was rocking, the large Tamagotchi Original in Convention exclusive shell was on display, although with a smaller screen inside, and a Mametchi statue, how cute?

It also looks like Bandai Namco US pulled out all the stops! They brought the Tamagotchi Original in the new Starry Shower shell, along with the Supreme Tamagotchi, and much to our surprise, the FRGMT Tamagotchi Original, where lottery winners on Bandai Premium Japan were just recently alerted. Of course Bandai Namco US brought the new Tamagotchi Uni in both Purple and Pink, and Tara Badie, Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America, Senior Director Brand Strategy was giving hands-on demonstrations!

Awkwardaltschmerz on Instagram was able to get really awesome product demonstrations of the Tamagotchi Uni that were super informative, and they were also able to hold it in their hands! We love when Awkwardaltschmerz mentions that they preordered both shells, goals! We must say, we are really impressed with the graphics and the speed of the device, there is no lag at all.

Lastly, we see that Bandai Namco US also brought a display of the American Girl Isabel’s Bedroom Accessories kit which features the mini lenticular Tamagotchi Original. There is also the Mini Brands Toy Collectors Case which features miniature Tamagotchi Original’s in their packaging.Tamagotchi Nano was of course in attendance. We can see Demon Slayer, Juju Kaisen, One Piece, Grogu, Jurassic Park, and TinyTAN.

We also love that Bandai Namco US brought some Paris fashion! Showcasing the Tamagotchi in Paris Capsule Collection by Max&Co. How cute is that sweater?

woevember is coming!
what is it?
woevember is an asoue fanwork event week, that will take place from november 13th through november 19th, 2022. each day of that week is dedicated to a different group of characters from a series of unfortunate events and all the wrong questions.
what do i do?
the character groups will be revealed now, so everyone has time to make something. between now and the week of november 13th, you’ll create fanworks about the characters, and then post it on the corresponding day during november 13th - 19th!
don’t forget to tag this tumblr (asouefanworkevent) in the post so i can find it and reblog it, and tag the post with #woevember !
what do you mean by fanwork?
everything! fanfic and fanart are of course allowed, but also edits, gifs, analysis posts, even just headcanons!! super short fics!! your sketchiest drawings!! i want people to be encouraged to and be able to create even something small that didn’t exist before for the snicketverse, and share it with other people!
are there any rules?
to keep the event open and comfortable for everyone, no explicit content. also, this should go without saying, but in case it doesn’t, sibling romance and age gaps are not allowed and will not be tolerated.
do i have to make something for every day?
only if you want to! feel free to just make something for one day if you want :) the point of having a different character group for each day is so everyone’s favorite character (or a character you like or find interesting) will hopefully come up at some point, so everyone’s covered, and you can at least make something for one of the days.
what are the prompts?
i tried to get a good mix of characters we already love a lot, and characters who you might not have thought about before!
november 13th – sugar bowl gen siblings
the best siblings. the worst siblings. they’re going through a lot, at all times. "the schism has turned many brothers into enemies."
character options include: snickets, denouements, anwhistles, calibans, sebalds
november 14th – firestarters
what makes a “firestarter”? (besides needing to find seven broad categories in which to fit many, many characters.)
character options include: olaf, esme, the bald man, fernald, the henchperson, the white-faced women, the man with a beard but no hair, the woman with hair but no beard (also related characters, like ernest, georgina, olivia)
november 15th – the city
there is so much in The City! and so much with a deep vfd history, that every aspect of the city must’ve crossed paths with vfd or the baudelaire’s story at some point, in some way.
character options include: jerome, eleanora, geraldine, esme squalor’s fanclub, honestly anyone you would like to stick in a specifically City location
location options include: the punctilio, the banking district, the herpetological society, the hemlock tearoom and stationery shop, the taxi, the opera, the fountain of victorious finance, 667 dark avenue, veblen hall, orion observatory
november 16th – unseen characters
there’s plenty of characters we hear about in the series, but never actually really see. give us your takes on them!
character options include: lemony's editor, the snicket parents, olaf's parents, haruki, the baudelaire's uncle elwyn, madame dilustro, gina sue, whoever beatrice and bertrand invited to their dinner parties besides mr. poe, moxie's mother, ellington's mother, violet's friend ben, lemony's friend playing the sonata on the pipe organ in the cathedral of the alleged virgin
november 17th – stain’d-by-the-sea
what becomes of stain’d-by-the-sea and all the people still living there, after lemony leaves? what happens to wade academy? what happens to ellington?
character options include: moxie, pip, squeak, jake, cleo, kellar, ornette, lizzie, ellington, prosper lost, stew, the mitchums, the talkie brothers, any character from 13SI (theodora can also be included here)
november 18th – the unfortunate generation
what are they up to, post-canon? or what were they up to, pre-canon?
character options include: violet, klaus, sunny, duncan, isadora, quigley, fiona, carmelita, friday, the second beatrice
november 19th – free space!
is there a character you want to make something for that didn’t necessarily fit in these categories? (and my deepest apologies for who didn’t. the duchess? miranda? ishmael? the islanders? widdershins? hector? the village of fowl devotees? jacquelyn? larry? phil? beatrice and bertrand, technically????) is there a character you wanted to do but you didn’t like the group they were in? (you’d rather talk about esme outside of her relation to the firestarters?) do you want to do something centered on a ship? (lemony/beatrice/bertrand? dewey/bertrand? kit/beatrice? violet/isadora? jacques/jerome? olivia/jacques? beatrice/bertrand? monty/gustav? sally/r?) put it here!
can i do ships for other days?
you absolutely can! i’m just giving options in the free space.
can i include other characters that aren’t a part of the group set for each day?
yes, as long as the major focus of the work is still on the designated group! for example, for sugar bowl gen siblings, you could definitely make something about, say, beatrice interacting with the snicket siblings, as long as the focus of the work is still on the snicket siblings. or, for stain’d-by-the-sea, you could definitely write about those characters interacting with vfd characters, or the unfortunate gen, or even mr. poe, as long as the focus of the work is still on the stain’d-by-the-sea characters.

ok this blog has fallen out of use bc (a) im not a student at the moment [i miss it :(] (b) i have plenty of other aesthetic blogs so im not rlly posting aesthetics here anymore (c) ive begun to like. hate. things that have an Aura Of Instagram around them (its the capitalism) but the needs to do shit and fall in love with life (not to mention the obsessions with stationery and beverages) have NOT gone away so we're getting a revamp. the new goals of athene-studies.tumblr.com are, in rough order of priority:
live a life where i feel like a real person and not just a depressed pleasure machine floating from moment to bittersweet moment (all the other points are really subsets of this one)
take advantage of the parts of life that arent quite in my "comfort zone"— while i am disabled and do need the rest, I'd really like to have a LITTLE less trouble not taking the path of least resistance! another part of this is becoming okay with being weird or going against the grain around people.
take care of myself (for instance, try to go to bed at a reasonable time)
find a place where i can help— work toward a job i like. participate in community, on smaller and larger scales. is it too late to meet my neighbors?
get shit done (always the real purpose of the blog. yknow ive been tentatively diagnosed with adhd and we tried like 5 different meda and none of them helped at all with my executive functioning? fucked up)
continue to learn without the pressure of school. im talking discrete study paths with goals (independent courses, languages, learning hobbies), small lessons (reading more. oh my god), AND just sort of ambiently learning from life around me
see the beauty in the world around me (not higher on the list bc... well, for one thing, im already good at that, baby! also my main blog is already basically a hopepunk blog. ...and i have a proper hopepunk blog thats fallen out of use. um)
i will attempt to do things like share lists of goals in these categories! for now, though, its bedtime, and im gonna try to take a walk. the whole "8 degrees fahrenheit" thing might cut that short though. also hey i never posted on here abt how i did an internship at nasa during school it was awesome :D
