Marry Me? - Purple hearts Fanfic
Summary: Luke comes home to Cassie.
A/N: I was bored and so I wrote this. It's short but I hope you like it anyway.
Cassie couldn’t keep still. Her blood was thrumming through her veins. Anticipation filling her.
Luke was coming home.
It had only been a few months, but it felt like a century.
They talked every chance they got, but it wasn’t enough.
She needed to touch him, feel the warmth of his body, the safety of his arms, the sense of comfort that washed over her when he was near.
She had endured months without him, but waiting at the drop off was what was going to kill her.
She needed him home. Now.
Her eyes shot forward at the sound of an approaching vehicle to see several buses approaching.
Her heart was in her throat as the soldiers started to disembark, reuniting with their families.
Luke’s family was here too, but in her anxiousness they had fallen in the background, forgotten.
When Luke finally stepped off the bus, she froze.
It was his voice saying her name. “Cassie,” that had her moving.
She was running toward him before he could even take a step toward her.
She collided into his chest, his arms banding around her, then his lips were on hers, kissing her like a man on death row.
She clung tightly to him, her mouth opening beneath his. Their tongues reuniting in a dance they had perfected the day he left.
She gasped. “I missed you so much.”
He hiked her up his body, and she wrapped her legs around him tightly.
“I love you,” he swore, his hands tangling in her hair, pulling her in for another kiss.
He kissed her until his desire for more became too much, the love in his heart building to a crescendo.
“Marry me,” He said.
Cassie gripped his shoulders, pulling back. “What?”
“Marry me?” Luke repeated, his eyes locked on hers.
“We’re already married, Luke.” She laughed as her heart pounded against her ribcage in a powerful beat.
“I don’t care.” Luke let her body slide back down his and settled one hand on her hip, the other on her neck, thumb brushing the underside of her jaw. “Marry me again for real this time. In front of our family, friends. I want to do this right this time around. I want to spend our wedding night showing just how much I love you.”
Cassie smiled and kissed him again. Kissing him was like coming home, and she welcomed the feeling.
She would marry him a thousand times over. All he had to do was ask.

no wait finish the purple hearts essay i gots to know!
Hahahaha ok here we go
(based on these tags I left on a gifset: #not to be a hoe for this movie but#wait there actually is no but#I AM a hoe for this movie#and I think twitter is ripping it a new one for all the wrong reaons#in this essay I will -#shut up janina nobody cares#purple hearts)
So this movie is doing exceptionally well (or at least that's what Netflix tells us and we all know: never trust numbers that you didn't fake yourself) and twitter is essentially tearing it apart because it's so racist and misogynistic (the dinner scene after they got married is making the rounds and people are angry) and I'm like -
Yes?? That's the point?? The movie is doing this intentionally?? We have Cassie react to it multiple times?? People act like this movie presents those scenes in a positive light - but it never does?? If you are outraged about these scenes - good!!! You are supposed to be! Those scenes are literally a big catalyst for even more conflict between Cassie and Luke?? (Although can I say that during the dinner scene, I think Luke is more concerned about blowing their cover than actually defending his friend and that's why he's just trying to not cause a scene - albeit to be fair in general, Luke is a shell of a character, he doesn't have a single character trait besides supporting the military lmao)
What people should drag this movie for is that those “issues” were never resolved and that the main message is ~ love can overcome all odds ~ which is bordering on insanity when you have completely opposing political views (if that's even the case for Luke, I feel like we saw more of his republican family and his xenophobic friends and never what he actually thinks (did he have his own thoughts..like at all??) but I guess you are the company you keep so......) like I don't know about you but I kinda want my partner to support the same basic human rights as I do. I think they kinda blew it by trying to make this movie overly woke and having this as the base of their movie. Like what was the point of all the political subtext? Literally every plot line of this movie would've worked without that and since this is still your good old romance movie, it just felt very out of place and ' fake woke'. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too. Cassie called him out constantly but in the end it was brushed off as a minor argument when there should have been some kind of change on his part - but there never was as far as we’ve seen, it was just never brought up again and kinda just ended in “agree to disagree I guess” which is just very poorly written.
But the bottom line is that I still highly enjoyed this movie because two hot strangers got fake married, had to be fake in love (and good God, they were bad at it), had to share *one* bed (shrieks!!!) and then they fell in love for real!!! it's a stupid romance movie!!! do I wish it was better? hell yes! I am starved for good romance movies. but I’m still here for the chemistry and the tropes!!! and those were fire!! let women enjoy things!!!

PURPLE HEARTS
The sweetest and cutest movie of July. Thank you Netflix.
And if you haven’t cry a little bit, but are just heartless and soulless.
Definitively watch it.

Can we talk about Luke's injury and recovery on "Purple Hearts"? Is it accurate/properly portrayed? We can see how bad his leg looks when Cassie takes his trousers off: what do you guys think?

Now I know that this movie wasn't the best and personally I would've changed A LOT of things but I just liked the chemistry between Sofia and Nicholas. If we take out all the racism and military propaganda I think it would've been much better or at least address it and not sweep it under the rug.
Luke isn't the best character by far, I found it hard to sympathize with him especially the 'sit down' scene. It's a shame really because they had a lot of potential. Cassie just let him talk down on her and I found it annoying, all of her character traits disappeared half way through the movie :(
Despite that I just wanted to edit them 'cause I this song fit them perfectly and I needed to get them out of my system. Anyways, hope you all are safe and please enjoy!

Appreciate your thoughts on Purple Hearts. Definitely agree that they didn’t need develop Luke enough (or at all really?). To me it also felt like they made him a republican in the laziest way? Like they have him call her a snowflake or a liberal nut but we don’t actually really know his stances on anything. Probably because if they really committed him to some republican positions (abortion, immigration, the insurrection!) the incompatibility issue becomes the size of the Grand Canyon. It feels like a movie that would have been more at home in the mid to late 2000s, not 2022. Unmatched chemistry though, just wish they’d improved the story.
Oh I love this, thank you for your input!
And absolutely! You know what I think? They made him such a lazy republican that there was enough room to argue that “he didn’t even mean it like that” and I guess that it was exactly the point which feels so incredibly lazy and also completely misses the target. A blank canvas doesn’t please everybody, it pleases nobody. What’s even worse is finding out that he does change in the book and that their different political views is not the main conflict there. I just don’t understand why they made all these changes, opened this can of worms just to absolutely drop it halfway through. Did no one think this through? It really wasn’t that hard to make this a 5/5 story with some minor changes in the script, because like you said, their chemistry was 🔥 and there genuinely were some perfect scenes (the one in the bathtub…GOSH).
I hope one of these days we will get the romance movie we all wish for 💜
