“Andor” is doing what I’ve wanted Star Wars to do for years; the Imperial side being humanized. The thing that I loved about “Rogue One” was that it took the unnamed rebels who were always set up as cannon fodder and gave them fully realized identities. They weren’t just extras who get shot at, they were Cassian Andor, Jyn Erso, Baze Malbus, and so on. So, I’ve always wanted to see the same treatment for the Empire since they’re always portrayed as this one-dimensional, evil faction whose troops are also seen as cannon fodder.
We’re getting the humanizing treatment with Dedra and Syril. Yes, they’re working for the Empire, which means they’re our villains. But when you take a step back and look at who they are, they’re not one-dimensional, mustache-twirling bad guys that we typically see in Star Wars.
Imperial officer Dedra is ambitious and has a strong sense of justice, although her meaning of justice aligns with the Empire. Syril is a mama’s boy and a cop who wants to find the man who murdered his subordinates. When our heroes kill off people on their side, they’re rightfully horrified and want to see “justice” be served. That doesn’t mean we have to root for them, but it does make you realize that the Imperials are still people with their own lives and goals. It taps into that “morally grey” tone that the cast and crew talked about, where no one character is fully-good or fully-evil. They’re just people trying to make sense of their lives.

"What's this?" You slam the holopad on the table, fuming while Cassian flinches. Physically flinches. You look almost delighted at the reaction you elicited from him.
"What is this?" you spit out, and his gaze darts around each corner of the room like he's afraid of an onlooker in your own home. He doesn't need to look at it to know precisely what you are talking about; a product of just receiving the information from his mother and Bee. Cassian knew very well that he messed up by exposing his true origin but never in his wildest dreams would he have imagined that you would find out about who he really was like this.
"How did you find that?" He resists the urge to step back when your fury seems to double, but you don't lash out. Instead, you turn to a piercing rage, one that petrifies him and breaks him more proficiently than any white-hot rage ever could. What makes it worse is he was planning on telling you. His past was something he never wanted to hide from you, and while he had his reservations at first about letting you into his life, you seemed to worm your way into it and, in the process, his abandoned heart. As time passed, he got used to having someone else by his side, someone he could simultaneously love and trust unconditionally. It took a weight he didn't know he was carrying off his sagging shoulders, but there was one thing, one thing that hung over his head like a dark cloud, his past.
He admired how you never pushed him to open up about it, willing to be there when he was ready to share despite the questions that would arise when you caught him talking to Bix either about dealings in the past that involved him with numerous things that linked to it or mentions of it. But today, his luck had run out, and he was here to face the callous, cruel fist of reality he tried so desperately to hide from.
"Bix told me," you seethe, gripping the pad a bit tighter. "She was surprised I didn't know."
Of all the ways you could have found out, that was for sure the least desirable. Hearing the news, as crucial as this is, from another person is one of the worst ways you could learn it because it suggests either a lack of trust or faith. Which is entirely false. Cassian trusted you implicitly with every fiber of his being, and it wasn't a lack of confidence that brought this on. It was his own complacent mindset that he assumed he would tell you when he deemed the time right, not when his life had been flipped upside down. As you turned your icy glare upon him, he felt a piece of his heart rupture.
"She also mentioned," you grit your teeth together, your eyes failing to meet his, "that I'm the first woman you've never told about your past."
He sucked in a breath, silently cursing Bix. Fuck.
"You're the first person I've ever been truly serious about–"
"Bullshit Cassian! Why didn't you tell me?!" you exclaim, but your words are deadly, and Cassian would have to be a fool not to realize that. This was dangerous territory he was trekking in. One wrong move, and– well, he would rather not think about it, for the pain of it would be too great to bear.
"I was planning to tell you, if that matters."
"When were you going to tell me?! When you were on the run?! When it benefited you?!"
"That's not true," he reached out, attempting to place his hand on your shoulder, a calming gesture you were fond of, but you slapped his hand away. The cracks grew wider, slowly chipping away at his reality and his attachment to it.
"Damnit, Cassian, do you not trust me?!"
"I trust you with my life–" he's stumbling over his sentences now, his craft for talking his way out of situations failing him when he needed it the most.
"Obviously not," you scoff. You move to turn away, but an iron grasp pulls you forward and into Cassian's chest. You place your hand against it, desperately trying to ignore the feeling of stiff muscles beneath his clothing as you push away. Cassian doesn't relent, maintaining his steel hold while you fruitlessly struggle against him.
"Let go of me," you warn, giving an experimental tug, but to no avail, as you don't budge.
"Let me explain."
"That's rich coming from you."
"Please." Your breath catches in your throat at the utter desperation in his voice while Cassian's mind runs a mile per minute. All he's consumed with is the thought of not losing you. He can't imagine living in a world where you resent him after he opened his heart to feel after years of repressing emotion after emotion. Instead, he feels the cracks in his heart widen, chunks breaking off and slowly breaking him as well.
"I've wanted to tell you. I've wanted to tell you for a long time. I've just never found the right moment."
"Then why does Bix know, hmm?" Now that was a far trickier question to answer, one which opened doors to parts of his soul he's closed off to the outer world. The answer was far too complex for such a simple question.
You mistake his silence as his answer and scoff, yanking your arm from his limp grasp, the faintest touches of his skin leaving a phantom imprint on your own.
"You're unbelievable." Another crack, this time it splits, creating more crevices, more pieces he's afraid he will be left to pick up alone.
"Don't go." He sounds pathetic. He knows it, and so do you.
"Trust goes both ways, and you've just lost mine."
Shatter.
Cassian's heart fucking shatters into a thousand minuscule pieces. Why can't he stop you, the only real good in his miserable, horrible excuse of a life, from leaving? Why can't he explain?
Logically he knows both of your emotions are running high, and your responses are feeding into each other's emotions, making them spiral out of control.
Trust goes both ways, and you've just lost mine. Your words rang loudly like an endless song of suffering orchestrated just for him.
You storm to the front door, not to your room like you do whenever you get into an argument, but to the door. You yank your coat off the rack, shrugging it over your shoulders without sparing Cassian a glimpse. In the midst of the climax of your relationship, he can't help but long for your soft eyes, filled with unbridled love while holding their own untamed, wild passion that he often found within himself instead of the darkness and rage that clouded them over. He yearned for the warmth of your touch, your partially calloused hands running over his scared skin while bringing out a vulnerability he didn't know he possessed. He just wanted whatever you would give him, addicted to your smile, smell, and love so much, so it blinded him.
Cassian knows this is his only chance to explain, to get down on his knees and beg for forgiveness, but he can't move, think, or feel anything. It's all the same void of nothingness penetrating his senses.
The door opens.
Cassian feels like you're stepping on the shards of his heart, breaking them further to a point he feels is no return.
"Please," a last desperate beg. All Cassian wants is to take you into his arms and wrap them around you, explaining everything before you become a whisp in the wind.
Please.
The door shuts.

“She’s beautiful,” he said, inspecting her face. “Her eyes have changed color.”
Lyra nodded. “They’re sort of flecked.”
“Stardust,” Galen said. “That’s what’s in her eyes.”
—Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, by James Luceno
Galen nicknamed Jyn “Stardust” because of her eyes.
Now, I’ve only watched the Andor episodes once, but I couldn’t see any explanation for the astronomical event on Aldhani to be called “The Eye.” It didn’t really resemble an eye to me.
Gorn tells Cassian: "Imagine fifty meteor showers all at once, but like a curtain being pulled across the sky until the Eye, the window to the galaxy, forms over the horizon."
As the old saying goes, “the eyes are the window to the soul,” and "The Eye” is perhaps so named because it is seen as a window to the galaxy.
As far as I can tell, no one in the episodes uses the word “Stardust,” but that is clearly what it looks like and many have drawn the connection.
What reason could there be to have a green and gold astronomical event called “The Eye” other than to reference Jyn’s stardust eyes?

The quiet ambiance starkly contrasted with the busy machinery and the whir of droids you were usually surrounded by. Sure it was a welcome change, but there was something foreign about the notorious silence that you couldn't quite place. Maybe you've grown so accustomed to the sound over the years that it has become a strange sort of ambiance to you, not that you would understand it since you thrive in the quiet, whether it be in your life or your mind; you did best when the world turned silent.
That hush was interrupted by the cool hiss of the front door opening and the scuffling of feet across the floor.
"I'm home," you heard his Kenarian accent before you saw him, the door closing a moment later. The deep rumble swirled with just the right amount of smoothness to make you melt into the earth beneath your feet. His heavy footsteps echoed through the small space until they stopped behind you. His hands came to meet your waist, pulling you into his chest. You giggled as he tucked his head in the crook of your neck, placing a kiss above the blotchy purple hickey he had left the night before. His mouth leaves goosebumps to pimples along your skin as they trace the mark while it gives a dull, achy throb under his advances.
"How was your day, Kassa?" His hand drew circles across the fabric of your pants where your hips met your thigh as you put down the part you were cleaning to sell to Timm the next day.
"Much better than yours could have been." You smile, trying to hide your amusement. It never failed to surprise you how keen Cassian's senses were. It was like a sixth sense to him when something was plaguing you or causing you despair, whether it be a deal gone south or a fruitless haul. Nevertheless, he made sure to ease away each emotion that infested your mind with his addictive touch. It was easy to get lost in him, the sensations, the pleasure he all but supplied you with, accompanying a well-needed distraction. "What's wrong, sweetheart?"
"You know that drive plate I've been trying to sell?" Cassian hums knowingly against the soft of your neck, the vibration sending a rush down your spine. "Well, the only guy that would buy it wanted 200 hundred Credits. 200 hundred Cas! For what I spent fixing that, it's at least double that pathetic price he offered me."
"You could always sell it to Bix. She's working on fixing a motor in a speeder. I'm sure she'll buy it," he offered, his mouth latching onto your neck, and you gripped the counter to stabilize yourself. You bit back your groan as his tongue ran over the area in apology. A warm ache spreads through your body as his lips map your skin, marking it as his own. They move down the column of your neck with each flutter of a kiss, leaving you breathless in the best ways.
"Go on, I'm listening." You find it nearly impossible to do anything with the way his hands rove over your covered skin, and you have to find your scattered thoughts one by one in order to think of anything besides the feeling of his calloused skin inflicting sinful torture upon the mounds of your flesh. It's enough to demonstrate their profane properties and hint at the thrill of ecstasy they could bring down on you but not enough to slate your growing arousal, which right now is quite irritating.
"I can't hear you." His lips dipped towards your ear's shell, his voice's low reverence spiced with lust. His hands ventured across your body, and you felt the familiar tug of lust dance across your chest before it bloomed. Then, slowly, it spilled into your blood, tainting it with an excitement that felt too good to not be forbidden.
Your desire must have been infectious because he pulled you impossibly closer, his nose nudging your jaw while his tongue swirled across it, licking the salt off your skin. Your head falls against his shoulder as his facial hair scratches deliciously across the plane of your jaw, earning an unprecedented whine from your kiss-bitten lips.
"That's not what I asked, is it?" Cassian holds your hips steady to keep you from squirming from the onslaught of teasing bliss he endlessly bestows upon your body.
"No," you breathe, and if it weren't for Cassian holding your body still, you're sure you would be in your bed by now. So instead, you rotate your head, so you can finally get to see him after what felt like an eternity (a day) of him not being at your side. His eyes are vast, dilated with an unhindered ardor that has you weak in the knees, and amidst all that desire, there's a tenderness almost hidden beneath the dark valleys of his irises.
"Go on then," he urges, and you have to physically tear your eyes away to think clearly and remember what the conversation was about in the first place.
"B-Bix didn't need a drive plate, s-so I sold it to the guy for 230," you tried to keep your voice steady, you really did, but the stumble was inescapable. You feel his lips curve into a self-assured smirk as his hands grow more adventurous.
"Perfect." And even though Cassian whispered the word, with no lust or passion clouding his vision but out of the fluttering in his marred heart, you become utterly lost in him.
Yet as the night passed into the morning, with the sun spilling over the skyline, you couldn't find a more perfect moment you wanted to be trapped in or a more perfect man to be beside.

Luthen saying how Bix ran her game by bribing Imperial officers but it's Bix who gets tortured, not the Imperials, they probably got slaps on their wrists and paid suspensions when the people kept suffering.

Is it just me or did Kassa, A.K.A young Cassian, look older than six or seven in those flashbacks on Kenari? As B2EMO says there is a Republic ship incoming, this has to be before the rise of the Empire and therefore still during the Clone Wars. We see the Confederacy of Independent Systems emblem on the uniforms of the dead and dying crew. Yet Maarva says something about having killed a Republic officer?
It is also possible that this is a few years after the Clone Wars and they are still dealing with the remnants of the Separatists. Perhaps having been Separatist aligned, she would continue to think of the Empire as the Republic, at least for a few years after the end of the war and her droid does, too? Still doesn’t explain why she’s talking about a dead Republic soldier when she’s clearly surrounded by Separatists. Also, it’s very bizarre to see a Separatist ship that isn’t full of battle droids.
Regardless, if Cassian was actually born in 26 BBY and the Clone Wars are still ongoing, then he can’t be more than six or seven, the clone wars ended in 19 BBY. Are they making him older now? Or just making him always have looked older to explain away why he looks so much older at twenty-one? He looks closer to ten to me, maybe older.
It’s entirely possible that his age, and therefor the birth year (whatever it was in universe) was a guess by Maarva as I don’t think Kassa would have known how his local reckoning of years would correlate to standard galactic time. But to be off by that much? And Maarva should have been able to do the math correctly if he knew how old he was in local years.
Also, if it is still during the Clone Wars, then it was the Republic and not the Empire that devastated his homeworld, which again could be former Separatists conflating the two. Still seems weird to me.
I hope we get more explanation.
