Got to give a little Casita love, because I love how the Madrgials have this magical house that can emote and be it’s own character, even if it doesn’t have a face. The fact that it loves the Madrigals deeply and cares for them is really sweet!

Jared has described Casita as its own character like I said, a house who’s flawed and imperfect like the family. It can play favorites from time to time, and even plays pranks once and awhile with the Madrigals, though of course overall, the house loves this family. Everything about Casita is amazing and creative, how it has a close wholesome relationship with Mirabel, how it can be playful, expressive, and emotional and how the crew showed that in an amazing way like with the tiles and all! It’s it’s own person, it takes care of the family and wants to please, and other times it will want attention or want to be left alone, just like a real person as described by the makers again. Of course the MOST important thing is how the house is tied to the emotional core of the family. As most of the fandom knows, it’s pretty much confirmed in the film and by the filmmakers that the house is tied to the family. When the family is happy, the house is happy. When the family is sad, the house is sad, when the family loves Isabela, the house loves Isabela, but when the family is having major PROBLEMS, then the house starts to crack. It’s the emotional “heartbeat” of the family as the filmmakers describe, and I just have to say that this is ANOTHER idea that I thought was pure creative genius! Another major reason why this house is so important is just that it’s HUGE, and because it’s huge, the filmmakers were able to replicate the features and visuals of Columbia in such a good way! The fact that it’s only a house, yet they were able to fit in so much stuff, a rainforest, flowers, animals, ect, is something I have to praise. That’s why you don’t NEED a big adventure in a film like this, the Casa Madrigal house is an adventure within itself with how big it is. I love how the film takes place in this one big house and that’s it, because it’s the core, and it’s the most interesting and magical place you’d want to be in.

With that said, I will say that I wish Casita had more scenes in the film, particularly I wish it interacted with a few other family members, other than Mirabel and Alma since they were the only characters who directly spoke and interacted with it. That begs the question though, I wonder if Mirabel is the only member who has a close relationship with the house, other than Alma of course. The thing with Mirabel though is that she always talks to Casita as if she can understand it perfectly, and it’s clear the two have a very close bond, with Jared even saying that she grew up talking to the house a lot. So I wonder if she’s the only grandchild who likes to interact with the house, or talks with the house like she does. That would be an interesting question to ask Jared! But anyway, I definitely want to see more of casita in the future, I would love to see it pull pranks and have fun and interact with all the family members, as well as I would definitely love to see Mirabel growing up, just having this house as a best friend! 🏡🌴💕

For this Au, I think Bruno is similar to Eda. Originally he and his sisters trained to join the Emperor’s Coven, but then he realized that the Coven system is wrong for only letting witches study one type of magic. So he runs away and becomes a “Wild Witch” and becomes an outcast to the town and the rest of the family.

But he’s not like a cool criminal or anything, he's powerful but everyone just makes him sound like he’s more dangerous than he actually is. In reality, he literally just wants to be left alone to study all types of magic.

Alma would be in the Abomination Coven and put pressure on her children, and later on her grandchildren, to be accepted into The Emperor’s Coven. Bruno was the only one who came close before he disappeared.

Mirabel begins to wonder why she can’t study multiple types of magic. But when she brings this up to her family, they discourage the idea because “That’s what Bruno said before he ran away”. Which only makes her more curious to find out the truth about her missing uncle...

Mirabel Birthday prompt: Mirabel watching as the entire family does a horrible job of acting normal while they plan a surprise party

Her family were terrible actors sometimes. For a family of people who were so good at hiding their feelings, thoughts and stress, they were terrible at hiding when they were planning something.

Mirabel could admit, that included her. When she was planning a surprise, she knew her giddiness hinted at something. But she couldn't help it! She just got so excited!

And so it went for the rest of her family. Her birthday was coming up, two weeks away now, and it was painfully obvious they were hiding something. Conversations stopped when she entered the room. Dolores squeaked frequently and refused to make eye-contact. Luisa giggled at random. Antonio kept giving her a beaming smile and asked her questions like, "Do you want a new dress?"

Yeah. Obvious.

The front doors opened and Casita suddenly rattled the floor, hastily pushing Mirabel towards Abuela.

"Ah, Mira!" Abuela's smile was a little too wide and she looked worriedly at the doors as Félix came running in, doing a poor job of hiding the armful of wrapping paper rolls in his arms, and a big bag of what looked like balloons. "Perhaps you could help me with something in town, amor?"

"Sure, Abuela," Mirabel said with an amused smirk. "What is it?"

Abuela plainly hadn't thought that far ahead. She gave an undignified, sputtering cough and quickly steered Mirabel towards the back doors. Casita rippled, hurrying them along. Mirabel could hear Agustín calling, "Pepa, did you get it?" and Pepa practically screaming back, "Keep your voice down, idiot!"

"How about we just take a walk instead?" Abuela said with a sigh. Laughing, Mirabel linked her arm with Abuela's.

Her family was obvious. So terribly, horribly, ridiculously obvious.

It was a good job she loved them so much. Anyone else would tease them mercilessly.

Day 8 I drew Casita if she were human!

The Gift of acting… or just being in denial.

All sorts of interesting things had been discovered while excavating Casita’s rubble, but the most significant to Camilo was a photograph salvaged from a cracked frame and shattered glass. It was his mother and her siblings, a couple of years younger than he was, clustered around a large cooking pot. They all wore shawls and fringed blankets draped over their shoulders, eyelids, cheeks, and lips darkened with makeup, and each held an offering over the cauldron.

His mamá dangled…was that a frog, or a stuffed animal which looked like one? Tío Bruno definitely held an actual rat - and whoever had done his makeup needed to be praised - while Tía Julieta offered a dangerous-looking mushroom. They were all giving somewhat creepy grins to the camera.

Camilo had so, so many questions.

They don't have Gifts, they don't have a miracle, and they definitely don't have a house, but Camilo soon figures out one thing that can pull his family together: the fact that they're all storytellers at heart.
